Dr. Martin: Well, good afternoon, everyone. Once again, welcome to another live this afternoon and hope you're having a great day, we're going to get going. [00:00:30] Let me start off by giving you a little bit of what if. You ever wonder if you could see a little bit into the future, especially in the stock market or whatever and known what kind of stocks were going to take off and which ones were going to tank or whatever? But if someone had told you, let's say several [00:01:00] years ago now, I guess it would be somewhere around '20, I'm trying to think exactly, maybe a little even longer than that.
But if someone had told you to invest in a little blue pill and they gave you a tip saying that this was going to be one of the greatest investments you could ever make because the stock for this little blue pill was going to take off. Now, [00:01:30] I bought a few stocks over the years and people that were in the mining business because in Northern Ontario generally our big industry is mining. I had friends of mine that, some of them actually prospectors, had told me, "Oh, this is going to be a great find here." Sometimes they were right and sometimes they were wrong.
But I want you to think through this with me [00:02:00] for a minute. Here's the statistic, and then we're going to talk about this. Listen to this statistic, it's shocking, really it is. 50% of men after the age of 40 will suffer from a condition called ED, 50%. I always knew that people [00:02:30] that were making these little blue pills weren't stupid, there was money to be had. But I wonder even if you thought that this statistic for men was that high, for erectile dysfunction, incredible. 50%, and just after the age of 40.
I want to do a little bit of a dive, not on the blue pill, but [00:03:00] I want to tie a modern phenomenon, by the way, it is a modern phenomenon. Not saying that it didn't occur, but there's almost no sense to half of the male population after the age of 40 suffer with this condition, it's incredible. So we're going to tell you why that's so, why it is an epidemic, [00:03:30] and why you should have invested some of your hard-earned money in a pharmaceutical, was it Pfizer? I think it was Pfizer that came out with the little blue pill and then others, of course, followed suit, but they were the first ones out with that. So if you've been getting our emails, we've talked about this a little bit. And I want to just do a little bit of a deeper [00:04:00] dive for you so that you understand why this happen. And of course, ladies, there's going to be a huge application to you. Not only because of possibly your husband who suffers from this, but more than not, it can have huge implications elsewhere in the body, and females are not exempt.
So let's unpack this a little bit, [00:04:30] not only ED, but what causes ED. There was a substance that was discovered, it happened even after I was in school in the 70s, there was a substance, I remember it well, that was found in the human body, a molecule, it was called nitric oxide, NO, nitric oxide. [00:05:00] The guy who discovered it won a Nobel Prize in medicine because it was a significant finding. Now, not too many people talk about it because they don't know that much about it. Medicine, you don't hear, a little bit, but not so much. It's more functional guys like me that talk about the importance of having very, very good nitric [00:05:30] oxide levels.
So let's do a little bit of a deep dive into first of all, what does nitric oxide do. Nitric oxide is a substance that your body makes that makes your blood vessels relax. When your blood vessels relax, not constrict, [00:06:00] they open up. What happens when you open up blood vessels? Open up a hose, squeeze a hose, compress a hose, and the water stop coming out. That's what happens in blood supply, it gets diminished when you constrict your blood vessels. But nitric oxide relaxes the blood vessels, [00:06:30] taking your hand off the hose and now the water comes out in a much more abundant fashion. It's an illustration I hope that you understand. Nitric oxide is essential for relaxing blood vessels. Now, what causes a decrease in nitric oxide? There's a few factors. [00:07:00] One, age. As you get older, you're going to produce less nitric oxide, you produce less of it, it's normal. But it's certainly not normal that 40 year old men have a big, big time lack of nitric oxide, it's not normal at all, that's not. [00:07:30] Yeah, we get older, you have less, but come on now, men in their 40s.
But if you unpack erectile dysfunction in men, it's the age, yes, but primarily it's insulin. Here we go again, food. You develop insulin resistance, your cells, don't like insulin, [00:08:00] the bad neighbor coming around to your place all the time. Your cells get tired of seeing insulin, but insulin has a job to do, and it will do it. It has to store sugar, it can not leave it in the bloodstream. But insulin resistance affects levels of nitric oxide. That's why over the [00:08:30] years, and I mean this, was it hundreds and I mean hundreds or thousands? I saw a lot of patients over the years. It wasn't always an easy conversation for men to have, it was usually their wife telling me about it. "By the way, doc, my husband, he won't tell you this, but he's got ED." Right away I knew what [00:09:00] the number one cause was, it wasn't age. I know nitric oxide goes down as you get older, but it wasn't age, it was food, it was insulin. The blood vessels won't open, they constrict. And to a male, his privates, you need blood supply there.
And ladies, you need blood supply in your privates too, otherwise you're going to have trouble with libido, [00:09:30] crazy. Age, insulin. Now, let me tell you another one, we talked about this. Well, at least on the email we talked about it. You know what another factor is in blood supply that elevates your nitric oxide? B12. B12 is found in vitamin S steak. It's not found [00:10:00] in the plant kingdom, it's not found in chicken, it's not found in salads, it's found in steak, that's how you get B12. And if your B12 levels are not high enough, I don't care so much about what they call normal B12 levels anymore, we talked about this earlier this week. But B12 is an essential vitamin because if your [00:10:30] B12 is low, your nitric oxide is low.
As a matter of fact, in our office, I was much more interested in measuring your nitric oxide than I was in measuring your B12 because I knew one thing it was invariable. If your nitric oxide was low, you had low levels of B12, and I didn't care what your blood test said, [00:11:00] I didn't. B12 blood tests are 100 years old, they should put them to bed and get another one. The ranges are... It, "oh, doc, I'm 2 something that I'm normal." No, you're not, you got low levels of nitric oxide. But if you unpack it and go backwards, you have low levels of not only B12, but one of the things that lowers your B12, insulin [00:11:30] again, bad eating. When you're living on carbohydrates, you're elevating your insulin. When you elevate your insulin, you're elevating your insulin resistance. Your cells don't like insulin any more but that doesn't matter, insulin's coming around anyways whether you tell them to go away or not. If you eat crappy carbs, insulin has to come.
And nitric oxide, think of it, [00:12:00] when you can't open up those blood vessels, okay, we think of ED. No fun for men, no fun for their wives, low libido. But it's more than that guys, nitric oxide. Think of brain think of the memory, you need blood vessels to open up. This is one of the biggest problems in what they [00:12:30] call small vessel disease as a sign or a cause of dementia. They call it small blood vessel disease. Well, what that is is it's nitric oxide, it's low NO. And out you must go, but your brain needs nitric oxide.
I want to give you another important one that lowers your nitric [00:13:00] oxide. We talked about it in our email today, it's called uric acid. Uric acid, by the way, just to understand this, okay, uric acid is a waste product. Everybody makes uric acid, everybody, you make uric acid and I make uric acid, everybody does. [00:13:30] So it's not uric acid that's the problem if you can get rid of the waste product. The problem is twofold, when you eat fructose... And remember just by deduction, you guys will understand this. The world doesn't understand it, but you understand it. Just by deduction because you're going to follow along with me. I make the point, [00:14:00] I made it 25 years ago, why do we see so much go gout? "Oh, doctor Martin, it must be purines. Nah, Google it, it'll say purines.
What are purines? It's part of food, it's a waste product too. But purines, oh, red meat, that's got purines gravy, that's got purines in them. It does, but that's not what causes gout, [00:14:30] that doesn't cause gout. I made this point years ago when I said, "Okay, if red meat causes gout, why is it that gout is up about 60%, 70% today?" 60%, 70%, why is that? Can't be red meat. The consumption of red meat actually went down in the last 50 years, it went down. It didn't go [00:15:00] up, it went down. What causes it's high-fructose corn syrup, the sugars that the food industry makes. It's not natural sugar, I call it the antiChrist of sugars because it's not natural. It sounds natural, high-fructose oh, fructose, fruit, sugar, must be good. Nah, [00:15:30] it's terrible, it's poison, it's poison on steroids. But that's the sugar of choice. You know what? The food companies they don't even have to tell you what they're putting in in terms of sugars. So they make it all cane sugar and this sugar and that sugar, it's high-fructose corn syrup.
It makes a beeline. high-fructose corn syrup, we talked about what it does in the gut because it [00:16:00] feeds yeast and it's bad for leaky gut. But it's not because it stays there very long, it's bypass, it's going through your gut at 100 miles an hour, just about. Just enough to feed the yeast, but it's making a beeline for your liver. That's why it's so dangerous, that's why we see kids with fatty liver because they're always drinking juice and juice boxes and [00:16:30] sodas and all this stuff, ice scream and whatever it is. It's making a beeline for the liver like alcohol. Why is alcohol dangerous? You'd never think of giving alcohol to a child, would you? Of course, you wouldn't. But yet we feed our children high-fructose corn syrup, about 200 pounds a year of it. [00:17:00] The byproduct of fructose, whether it be, by the way, whether it be high-fructose corn syrup was this horrendous or even fruit sugar, fruit, fruit, it's by product, it's waste product is uric acid.
The problem with uric acid is if you don't get rid of it... "Oh, doc, I don't have uric acid because I don't [00:17:30] have gout." "You got high blood pressure?" "Yeah." "Well you got uric acid and you should be cutting out all high-fructose corn syrups and lay off God's candies. Fruit, have a few, but don't live on it." We live in a different world. This is why I'm always telling people, look don't compare me when I was a kid to my grandchildren, don't do it. We live in a different world, and [00:18:00] the food industry is a big part of that because they found high-fructose corn syrup in the 1970s. They made it in the lab, they found out it was addictive, it was worse than cigarettes, they found out that it was cheap, and they found out that it was 10 times sweeter than normal sugar.
So guess what they did with it, they put it in everything from ketchup to [00:18:30] you name it. You read anything with added sugar today and that's what you're consuming, high-fructose corn syrup. It's by-product is uric acid. I don't care what your blood levels are, you might not be getting rid of it. You see, the double whammo comes here, you make a lot of uric acid because of high- [00:19:00] fructose corn syrup, the worst, and secondly your kidney is what excretes it. Because uric acid is supposed to go into urea and you're supposed to pee it out of your body.
Now remember, let's go back. High-fructose corn syrup, even fruit, the by-product of fructose [00:19:30] is uric acid. Your body says, "Okay, I got to get rid of it, it's a waste product." Your kidneys have got to pee it out. The problem is if you have elevated insulin or insulin resistance, your kidneys do not work the way they're supposed to. Then what happens is guess what? Your uric acid [00:20:00] levels don't get excreted, they don't get converted to urea, you keep it in your body, and now you have elevated... You might have gout, you might, you might have pain. A lot of people don't realize their pain is goat, they've been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis or whatever. You have no idea how many times I told patients, I said, "I don't think you got our email, I think you got gout. [00:20:30] You got nodules on your fingers? You got to gout. But a lot of people don't get joint issues, they get high blood pressure because of what's happening in the kidneys.
Okay, let's take it one step further age, insulin, low B12, you know what I found? Just use this for a second with me, a [00:21:00] person that doesn't need vitamin S, when they're not eating steak, what do you think they're eating most of the time? The carboholic, a vegan they're carboholic. "Dr. Martin." "I know." But if you've got low B12, you're going to have low nitric oxide and your blood vessels aren't going to open up and you're squeezing the holes of your blood vessels. Not only to your heart, you're elevating your blood pressure, you're [00:21:30] making your heart work harder, you're making your brain not get enough blood supply. It affects the memory center of your brain more than anything else, you can't retrieve. You got a memory, but what's that person's name? That's nitric oxide. So uric acid, B12 insulin, you see how damaging it is? Even insomnia, [00:22:00] fatigue, memory, poor circulation, brain fog, osteoporosis ladies, osteoporosis. It's not a lack of calcium, it's a big lack of NO, nitric oxide. Your bones need nitric oxide, they need blood supply, [00:22:30] they need the fountain opened up, got it?
Tony Junior mentioned this, I won't spend too much time on it, but it talked about you even need high levels of nitric oxide for your immune system. Because even your lymphatics and your natural killer cells and your neutrophils, they need nitric oxide to work properly. Now, the guy that discovered [00:23:00] that molecule won a Nobel prize, but eventually he had no idea. No idea of the problems that were coming down the track because of low levels of nitric oxide, incredible. So what do you do? You want a good anti-aging? It's not Botox. You really want to get into anti-aging [00:23:30] and anti-age your brain and anti-age your heart? You better get your nitric oxide levels up, so keep your insulin down, keep it down. You keep it down when you lower your carbohydrates. Why do you think the reset is so effective? So get insulin down.
You guys know me enough, so let me [00:24:00] just reiterate the way I think, you have to understand how I do this. When I tell you to lower something, I'm always telling you with the other hand, I'm lowering here for people that will listen on a podcast later. I'm coming down with one hand, but then I'm going up with the other hand, I'm always into substitution. When you lower your carbs, [00:24:30] when you lower your sugars, you up your protein and fat. Look, there's no problem with intermittent fasting, you know that, I've taught that in the past. It's a good way to help to empty your liver and this and that. But generally, look, I'm a food guy. And I'm not saying a lack of food, I'm saying eat the right food, [00:25:00] substitute, substitute. Get nutrient dense food, your insulin will go down, your uric acid will go down. You're not going to make one ounce of uric acid on the reset because it doesn't come from purines.
This happens with weight loss too, and I can give you a theory. But [00:25:30] as your kidneys improve, you're getting rid of more uric acid. But until that happens, until that happens, what? 1% of people that lose weight, and that can be a real good benefit on the reset, will sometimes get a flare up of gout. But that is rare gout because the reset is actually made to get rid of uric [00:26:00] acid. It's fixing everything about uric acid, it's storage, it's conversion to urea, it's fixing your kidneys so that now you'll pee it out. Uric acid isn't meant to stay in your body, it's meant to be turned into urea and when you go for a Pee, you pee it out. So wouldn't you have liked to put 1,000 bucks into Pfizer [00:26:30] months before they came out with the little blue pill? Would have, could have, should have. What did I know? I wouldn't have given you any better advice believe me.
