TRANSCRIPT OF TODAY'S EPISODE

Announcer:  You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.

Dr. Martin:  Well, good morning, everyone. And once again, welcome to another live this morning. Hope you're having a great start to your day. We appreciate you guys very much.

Okay, so as we get going this morning, guys, thanks for coming on. We appreciate you. I'm reading a study here, okay? Let's get into it a little bit.

Okay, I'll read you the headline and we'll go into, we'll talk about this for a minute. Okay? Endogenous, okay? Endogenous fructose production in the liver contribute to the development of metabolic syndrome.

Okay? Endogenous fructose. High fructose corn syrup. Why don't they just say it?

High fructose corn syrup. And the production, what it does in the liver, contributes to the development of metabolic syndrome. Now, let's go into this a little wee bit here this morning. Okay?

Guys, I wrote this in a book several years ago. I'm trying to think what book it was. I think Serial Killers, Two Hormones, I Want You Dead. I think that's when I wrote it, but it might have been even earlier than that.

I talked about what changed in the world. Okay? And I went into some things statistically. For example, when I was a boy in the 1950s, North Americans, Canadians and Americans, consumed, okay, around 25 pounds of sugar a year.

25 pounds. And that's, you know, 25 pound bag of sugars, a lot of sugar, but that's over a year. And so I tell my grandchildren, well, grandpa had cookies and ice cream too, you know, 25 pounds. In the 1970s, all my four kids were born in the 70s, all four.

And the world then, North America, went from 25 pounds to 50 pounds. Okay? 25 pounds to 50 pounds. Now, my grandchildren, okay, what do they consume?

What do they consume? A dump truck load. Because sugar comes and they couch every name of it in that book. I talked about 92 or 99 different names that they give for high fructose corn syrup.

That syrup, and it's a syrup, is primarily responsible, okay? Primarily responsible for the disaster that we look at today when it comes to healthcare. Okay? So when I was a kid, there was no high fructose corn syrup.

There was corn syrup, right? Beehive or whatever it was called. Okay? But it wasn't in everything.

And then they made this sugar. They changed the world with it. Guys, they changed the world with this sugar. And I watched it happen.

When they came out with this sugar in the 1980s, I watched it happen, guys. And what has gone through the roof in terms of stats? Obesity, right? I mean, go back, watch an old movie, look at old pictures.

You know how I made this, if you've been following me, I said, pretend you went to Mars in the 1970s. You happened to leave the planet, go to Mars, and then you came back today. You come back to planet Earth, you come back to Earth, and you came back today. You come back to planet Earth, and you go, you know what you would say?

What in the H happened to people? We're so much bigger. There's so much obesity. I mean, you can't say, well, everything is good.

You know, there's been a lot of advancement in technology and all that. You'd be surprised by that if you came back from Mars. But you'd go, what happened to people? I never saw one case, started practicing in the 70s, never saw a case of fatty liver, ever.

I saw cirrhosis of the liver, never saw fatty liver. It's not that you never saw obesity, but you didn't see it like it is today, like it's an epidemic today. And, you know, I talk about this a lot, okay, because if you look at what's happened in our society and health, we go, well, we changed flour.

That happened a hundred years ago, even more than a hundred years ago. They changed the flour. They changed the oil. We went from butter and ghee to margarine and crystal.

They changed the sugar. High fructose corn syrup. Huge change. And it's been unreal, guys, the disaster that's taken place.

And what they're saying here is that fructose, which sounds very healthy. I remember being in a debate, I'm going to go back probably 25, 30 years ago, a debate on high fructose corn syrup. Well, you know, we knew it back then, but the world got fooled by this because of the word fructose, fruit. And the makers of high fructose corn syrup, they actually had an association.

And I had a radio show and they were really upset with me because I was warning people about high fructose corn syrup. They said, Dr. Martin, you don't know what you're talking about. You don't know what you're talking about.

It's fructose. It's good for you. Fructose, fruit. You want to eat fruit?

Eat fruit, but don't drink it. And now you've turned it into a liquid. It's a solid liquid and it's going to go directly to the liver. And it has been a crazy disaster for our world.

Obesity. When it goes directly to the liver, fatty liver. You know, your body is so fearfully and wonderfully made. High fructose corn syrup, because it rapidly, like alcohol, if you drink alcohol, you know what happens?

It goes immediately to your liver for processing. And everybody knows that. I mean, you learn it in biochemistry real early because alcohol liver, cirrhosis, right? High fructose corn syrup is the same way.

And how your body reacts to that sweetness, how your body reacts to that is incredible. And I've been screaming about it for years because they said, listen, why do we see, look, gout has been around for centuries. Gout is not a new condition, but it used to be rare that King got gout because he drank wine.

Remember what I said, alcohol. Okay? They like to blame it on meat, but it was alcohol. But why is gout today like up 300% compared to what it was?

Look, I'm a why guy. Why does this happen? Why is there so much obesity? Is it calories?

Not calories. It's the sugar. They changed it. Your body's defense mechanism.

Think about this for a minute. Okay. And this is why I'm going to relate this in a second. When your body, when blood sugar goes up, a couple of things happen.

When blood sugar goes up rapidly, your body's got to do something. You know that. Okay? We teach this daily.

Insulin comes into play big time. Your pancreas, it secretes insulin. The insulin is the traffic cop. You guys know that.

I know that. And anybody that's ever listened to this program, that traffic cop, you cannot stay here. Blood sugar, you can't stay in sugar. In the blood stream is a no parking zone.

Out, out, out, out. Now what people don't realize is that the out. Now what people don't realize is, yeah, it defects the liver big time because that's one of the, that's the Costco parking lot. But even more than that, it's what it does to your triglycerides.

It elevates triglycerides. So this is guys, this is key because you know this because of my audience knows this, triglycerides are extremely, it's the body's defense mechanism. You're insisting on consuming high fructose corn syrup your triglycerides are going to go through the roof, through the roof.

Fat balls. But they're not made up of fat. I mean they didn't get there because of fat. They got there especially because of high fructose corn syrup.

And again, go down the road. Okay? So your triglycerides are shot through the roof. It's your body trying to take care of your liver.

It's a defense mechanism. You don't want to pack up that liver. So what does the body do? It sends it into the bloodstream as triglycerides.

Fat balls. And the problem in the liver, again, is your liver is not producing enough cholesterol in the form of HDL. When triglycerides go up, your cholesterol HDL goes down. It's a double whammo because if you don't have enough HDL cholesterol, you don't have the wagons on the back of the cholesterol molecule to pick up the triglycerides in the bloodstream.

What does that do? Think about it for a minute. Fat balls in the bloodstream. You know how dangerous that is for heart disease?

They blame cholesterol instead of blaming sugar. But not just any sugar. High fructose corn syrup. Guys, it's been crazy since the 80s.

Heart disease is worse than ever. And they never look at this. They don't look at food. Well, they do.

But they say, well, you're eating red meat. You're eating cholesterol. Cut out the eggs. Stop the dairy, the cheese.

It's fattening. It's got cholesterol in it. But they miss the whole chemistry on what's happening in the body. It's high fructose corn syrup.

It gets metabolized differently, guys. I read this study. Oh, it contributes to the development of metabolic syndrome. Well, no kidding.

93% of the population have metabolic syndrome. They have signs of metabolic syndrome. They're on the Titanic. And one of the And one of the biggest, biggest factors is high fructose corn syrup.

The antichrist of sugars. It elevates your blood sugars rapidly. The liver gets messed up. You elevate uric acid.

What does uric acid do? Well, it elevates your... If uric acid is high, guys, okay? Because people think of uric acid as gout.

Yes, for sure. Gout. But a lot of people, and we mention this a lot, when you have elevated levels of uric acid, you may not have any gout at all because you don't get any symptoms of gout. But that's not the point.

When you have elevated uric acid levels, it affects your blood pressure. It can give you kidney stones. 25% of all kidney stones, they're not oxalate or calcium stones. They are uric acid stones.

It really damages the kidneys. It increases your inflammation markers. Uric acid. This is why I love measuring uric acid.

Uri in Canada. Because you don't have to have gout. You don't want elevated levels of uric acid. So it elevates your triglycerides.

If triglycerides are high, your HDL cholesterol is down. And then you can't even... Your trucks on the highways, your cholesterol trucks don't have a wagon in the back to pick up that triglycerides. That is so dangerous for your heart, for your brain, for your brain.

And we all know what inflammation markers do. Inflammation is damaging to blood vessels. We talked about that yesterday. And so, guys, uric acid and high fructose corn syrup, it's just a different puppy altogether, guys.

And this is one of the marvelous things that happen. When you lower your high fructose corn syrup, you go on a reset. And you're not going to have any high fructose corn syrup. As a matter of you're not even having fructose for a month.

And guys, like I said, I don't... An apple a day, don't keep the doctor away, by the way. But if you want to have an apple, especially when you're metabolically and you're not in that 93%, but listen, an apple and eating it or an orange ain't going to make you sick. Okay?

There's a lot of people, they're carnivore in their thinking, they'll never have another fruit. Look, but that's not 99% of the population. I have to deal with the 99% of the population. If you don't learn that as a doctor, you're really making a big mistake.

Look, I want you to live. I used to tell my patient, I'm giving you a plan to succeed, not to fail. A plan to fail is saying you're never going to have another ounce of sugar. Never.

Well, what planet are you living on? I didn't do that to people. I wanted people to win. I wanted people to stick to things.

What the reset did, okay? No sugar, especially no high fructose corn syrup. Everything that's added in foods. From ketchup to you name it, you can't have it for a month.

Trust me when I tell you this. I used to tell my patients that, listen, how long did it take you to come and see me? You waited three or four months or six, whatever you did, wait to get an appointment. Okay.

Guys, now I'm going to keep you accountable. I'm going to give you a plan, and it's primarily with food. I'm a food doctor. Different.

Okay? Different. I'm a little weird, I admit it, but I'm going to put you on a 30-day program, and it'll be one of the best things you ever did in your life. You're going to find out a lot of things, and I'm going to prove it to you, because we got your blood work.

Here's what's going to happen. When you lay off high fructose corn syrup for 30 days, here's what's going to happen. Lots of things are going to happen in your body in just 30 days. One of the things, the first thing, or one of the top things, is you're going to find out.

You're going to learn something about yourself. That you and carbohydrates, especially the ones that turn to carbs rapidly, like sugars and high fructose corn syrup, will mess up your metabolism in nanoseconds, get you to affect your body rapidly. You're going to find out. You had a bad relationship with that.

I said, you'll thank me later, because you're going to see, oh, I didn't realize how much of that stinky carbs I was consuming. So in 30 days, you found that out, and your body said, holy smokes, what did you do to me? You changed, man. You brought in better fuel.

You gave me jet fuel, and your body is giving you a high five. Like, man, oh, man, this is much better. That fuel at the mitochondrial level, we aim at the mitochondria, and your battery packs, they go, wow, and the amount of ATP fuel that you produce is unreal at the cellular level. Every cell in your body responds to that.

When you don't give it high fructose corn syrup, and the crappy, crappy carbohydrates that turn to sugar rapidly, your body goes, man, you've given me a much better fuel. It's jet fuel, man. Jet fuel. Yeah, jet fuel.

It empties your liver. Your liver will thank you in 30 days. Well, don't even take 30 days. In six days, for most people, their liver is now empty.

If you want to, guys, because I've heard this for 50 years, Dr. Martin, I want to do a detox. Okay? Okay.

I like it. I want to do a detox. I like it. I want to do a detox.

What can I take as a supplement? Or, you know, because you can buy a liquid detox. You can go to the health food store or whatever and buy these detoxes. And I go, that's not really a detox.

Okay? And milk thistle. And I'm not against it. I'm just telling you, it's not a detox.

It just isn't. You can't do a detox unless you empty your liver. Your liver is your primary detox organ in your body. It's the organ that produces glutathione, velcro, which takes out heavy metals in your body, takes out garbage in your body.

You need an empty liver for that. And your body produces glutathione. Your liver does 600 things when it's empty. But 93% of the population, they've got a packed up liver because you can't get metabolic syndrome unless your liver is packed up.

With what? Fat. It's the Costco parking lot. It's the Costco parking lot.

And there's a method to my madness, guys. You know? Eggs, make and cheese. Eggs, make and cheese.

People go, you're crazy, Dr. Murray. Not that crazy. I'm crazy.

I admit it. But this, guys, is science. I didn't even make up the statistic on the 93%. That don't come out of the Martin Clinic.

They went from 88% of the population to 93% of the population. It's 93.4, I think, if I'm not mistaken. Have trouble with metabolic syndrome. Okay.

Well, that means your liver is affected. And there's nothing that will affect your liver like high fructose corn syrup. Rapidly. And that's what happens.

And your body is not detoxing. Your liver is all gummed up. Your triglycerides are going up. Dangerous.

Your HDL cholesterol, your cholesterol going down. Dangerous. Your uric acid levels are going up. Dangerous.

Uric acid, by the way, is very hard when it's elevated. It's not only an inflammation marker, it elevates your blood sugar. Why does it do that? Because it affects the kidneys.

Another detox organ. Number one is your liver. For detox. Number two is Niagara Falls of Canada.

And the USA side. The kidneys. The kidneys are affected, especially by high fructose corn syrup. So what do they do?

They hold on to sodium. Your blood, a hormone is released. Your blood pressure goes up. How dangerous is that?

Okay. I don't want you to have high blood pressure. I get high blood pressure during when I hear something stupid. My blood pressure goes up.

Okay. I get a migraine. You know how I talk about that all the time. When I hear stupidity, when I hear moderation.

Oh, you need moderation. High fructose corn, you need a little bit of it. No, you don't. You don't need an ounce of it.

And I'm never suggesting you're never going to have any of it. I'm just telling you what it does to the body. How damaging it is to your liver. It packs it up.

Triglycerides go up. Your body elevates your uric acid and now they're showing elevated levels of uric acid. It has a lot to do with the brain and Alzheimer's and dementia. And you know, that inflammation is damaging.

Inflammation, aging. I've seen that expression. But guys, there's a food, a so-called food made in a lab, made in a vat that is so damaging, guys. I read this study and I go, yeah, I've been talking about it since 1980.

They changed the soda. They put high fructose corn syrup in Coca-Cola and Pepsi-Cola and Mountain Dew and all that seven up. They changed the sugar, guys, because it's cheap. It's addictive.

It takes the same stinking pathway in your brain to get to your dopamine center, just like those addictive drugs like cocaine. Same path. And they get the kids hooked. And they say frosted flakes are great.

No, they're not. I like Tony the Tiger. That's what they used to call me when I was a kid. Tony the Tiger.

I like that. But I don't like frosted flakes. I don't like them. They're full of high fructose corn syrup.

They're killing our kids. Well, now my great-grandchild, they're growing up in a world that it's unreal. And the world doesn't know. Medicine, they don't know food.

Well, they know this about food. Red meat, bad. Eggs, bad. Cheese, bad.

Eat our bread. Eat our noodles. Eat crappy dinner. Eat bagels.

Eat muffins. Eat that. That's what they tell you to do. Have our Doritos.

What? Have our yogurt that's got the sugar in it. Yogurt tastes terrible. So what do they do with it?

Right? What do they do with it? Yogurt tastes terrible. I don't care what they know.

I like yogurt. Plain? It tastes terrible. Okay?

Anyway. Guys, this is serious business. We've made such a mistake. And look at the results in our society today.

Okay? You got self-driving cars. My word, did you ever think when I was in self-driving cars that my granddaughter said she was out in San Francisco on a holiday and they got an Uber, went out a driver, picked them up and brought them to their destination? I'm not kidding you.

That's the kind of world we live in. And yet we're the sickest we've ever been. Like a lot of things got better, but heart disease hasn't gotten better. Cancer hasn't gotten better.

Alzheimer's worse than ever. Obesity in children, true or false? Worse than ever. Fatty liver, worse than ever.

Because what happens in the liver, guys, don't stay in the liver. That's the point. What happens in the liver, don't stay in the liver. It ain't Vegas.

It's so damaging. And again, I bring you back to the reset. I know, I know I'm one track pony when it comes to food. I'm really not, but that's what a lot of people hear.

Somebody told me this yesterday. Oh yeah, there's a guy, okay, Sunsteak and Steel. That's all he ever talks about. Yeah, well, I do a lot of repetition, I admit it.

But there's a reason I say it, guys. There's a reason I say it. Because people are being duped. People are being duped.

People are being deceived. And they don't realize the importance of food and your health. They just, they don't connect the dots. And we're sicker than ever.

More heart disease, more cancer, more Alzheimer's, more dementia, more autoimmune, more leaky gut, all of it affected. All of it affected. It's not the only thing, but it's the main thing that affects the body. It's a sugar that man created.

And we think we're smart. And we're smart. But we're not that smart. And the food industry, and you got to understand this, go in the background, the food industry and the pharmaceutical industry, they're in cahoots.

They're in cahoots. Keep you ignorant. They don't like me. Okay.

I meant to get some to some other studies here. I got a few here that I want to talk about. Didn't happen. Do you know that yesterday, guys, the doctors in podcast, okay, so you're watching now on Facebook.

Okay, so we're not talking about the millions of Facebook views on this program. We're talking about the actual downloads of the podcast the doctor is in. We're hitting over the 3 million mark. It's amazing to me.

A little guy in northern Ontario. Amazing. But that's you guys. You spread the word.

It's amazing. Thank you. Okay. And just in our private Facebook group, we're up to over, I think we're almost at 120,000 now followers there, just on the private Facebook.

Again, guys, we just give you the love. You got to tell you how much I love my audience. You guys are unreal. Unreal. Smart.

Okay. Friday is what? Q&A. Don't be shy. Send your questions in. We love the Q&A. It always, it doesn't always, but often turns into Q&A Monday too, doesn't it?

Okay. Did I miss anything? Okay. Did I miss a question this week? Possible. I don't mean to.

Okay. Guys, we love you dearly and sincerely. We'll talk to you soon.
