1918. Q&A with Dr. Martin

Dr. Martin answers questions sent in by our listeners in today's episode.

TRANSCRIPT OF TODAY'S EPISODE

Announcer:  You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.

Dr. Martin:  Well, good morning, everyone. And once again, welcome to another live this morning. Q&A Friday, always fun. Never know what's going to be asked, but we appreciate it.

We appreciate your questions. One thing we're not shy about is you guys asking questions, trying to answer all of them. And that's what we'll do this morning. Okay, Louis, can vitamin C cause any negative side effect?

Well, look, you mean the other vitamin C, right, Louis? Like you're not talking about coffee, right? You're talking about the other vitamin C, what the rest of the world calls vitamin C. Okay, not near as powerful as coffee, which is the real vitamin C.

Okay, you're talking about the other one. Okay, because Louis is saying every time my daughter and husband have vitamin C, they complain it makes them feel worse. Well, to be honest, and I was in practice 50 years just about, right? And I never saw major side effects to vitamin C, ascorbic acid.

Like the only ones that I saw were sometimes people would get a loose stool or diarrhea with vitamin C. Okay? To be honest, I can't even think of a case where somebody said I took vitamin C and I didn't feel good. I guess it could happen.

Look, everybody's different. Must be Louise, because you're saying my daughter and or husband have, when they take vitamin C, they don't feel good. Well, ordinarily, that is, I'm not going to say the word weird because my wife don't like when I say that. She said you're insulting them.

Well, I don't mean to insult them. I just mean they're unique. Okay, not weird, unique. And it's rare.

I guess, look, we all got different fingerprints. We all got different eyes, right? You go through the airport and they scan your eyes because everybody different. And if you don't realize that in medicine, you're really making a big mistake.

So I never ever dismissed the odd person that reacted to anything. It's the way it is. It's not common, though. It is not common at all because you can Google vitamin C and look at side effects and maybe, I don't know, I haven't done it, but because I'm very familiar with it, I never saw it.

And when you do IV therapy for cancer, they usually, because they want to do high doses and that problem with a high dose of vitamin C was diarrhea, they did an IV in cancer treatment and with usually very little side effect. But it's possible. Anything's possible. To be honest with you, I can't explain it.

Paul, I was a young lady in my household growing hair in the wrong places. Paul, horrible. Look, usually, okay, because somebody's asking me, why don't I do it now? Judy, okay.

So Judy, I'm going to answer your question at the same time I answer Paul's about his daughter. Okay. Because you asked me, you said, Doc, can you please address Pico's polycystic ovarian syndrome? Well, they changed the name of it, Judy and Paul.

They changed the name of Pico's polycystic ovarian to Pimo's metabolic syndrome of the ovaries. Too much insulin, too much estrogen compared to the estrogen, compared to the progesterone. And when your estrogen goes up in a woman, elevated estrogen compared to progesterone, you get an elevated amount in women of testosterone.

That's where the acne comes in if they have acne. That's where the hairs on the chinny chin chin come in. Too much estrogen in a woman increases their testosterone. It doesn't mean women don't have any testosterone.

They do. It's just like a man. A man has a little bit of estrogen. The problem is, when you get too much of it for a man, and that happens, unreal.

But two hormones that are growth hormones, one is insulin, that's food. So I would tell Judy here, okay, because it's her daughter, you've got to knock down those two hormones. Insulin is food. It's carbs.

You want to lower insulin, you've got to get off sugars and carbohydrates, the crappy carbs. You just got to get off the breads, the noodles, the pastas, the cereals, the juices, store-bought milk, all that stuff, you've got to cut out. It ain't fun. It's not easy, especially if you're a carbaholic.

But what a difference that means. So the same thing, Paul, with your daughter. I would recommend they do the reset. It's amazing what happened in 30 days to their hormones.

That deals with insulin, and it helps boost your thyroid because you're emptying your liver. And T4 to T3, the hormone that your thyroid uses to stimulate your metabolism. Thyroid is your gas pedal in your car. But thyroid, its function has a lot of strings attached to it.

You change fuel, one, that lowers your insulin, and lower the estrogen by dimming it out. I have men and women on the menopausal formula because it contains dim. It lowers estrogen. Flaxseeds lower estrogen.

Flaxseeds, very, very good for you. So that's the key. If you've got too much estrogen, it elevates testosterone in women and their skin changes and the insulin. Because what they did in PECOS, now called PEMOS, they actually changed the name of it.

You know what medicine did with women that had polycystic ovarian disorder? They give them a diabetic drug, metformin, to lower their insulin. So even medicine understood that PEMOS used to be PECOS. One of the biggest problems was insulin.

And insulin is a growth hormone. It makes things grow, including cysts on ovaries. You want to stop or lower those two growth hormones. For cancer, you guys know this.

I talk about this all the time. Lower insulin. Cancer needs fuel. Lower insulin.

That's why diabetics are ten times more likely to get heart disease and they're ten times more likely to get cancer. Because their insulin is through the roof. It's a growth hormone, and so is estrogen. It's a growth hormone.

It makes you a woman. Isn't that beautiful? But can make a man a woman too. And that's why in prostate cancer, I'm always trying to get estrogen down in men.

Insulin, estrogen. Insulin, estrogen. Okay. Thank you for the question.

That was Paul and Judy. Okay, let's see. Go right to the top here. Chris, I've heard your comments on taking SIBO antibiotics.

That SIBO, by the way, small intestine bacterial overgrowth. We changed the name here on our program. And you know what? A lot of other doctors have followed suit.

They don't call it SIBO. Not medicine in general, but they call it SIBO. Small intestine bacterial overgrowth. But on this program several years ago, if you followed me, we had a name change.

We call SIBO, CIFO, small intestine fungal overgrowth. And the reason I was against antibiotics for SIBO is because that even made the problem worse. Because it's fungal. It's not bacterial.

Yes, there's bacteria there. But it's the fungus. It is the Trojan horse. That's what I call fungus, guys.

The Trojan horse. Okay. It sneaks in, in leaky gut. It can cause an overgrowth in the small intestine.

Fungal. Yeast. And you need to kill the fungus. Like even our digestive enzyme guy, our formula of digestive enzyme, okay, not only helps with your acidity in the stomach, because if you get acid reflux, the reason you get acid reflux, you don't have enough acidity in your stomach.

It's actually the opposite. But enzymes help. Proteas, lipase, enamelase. We put 15 or 16 different enzymes in there, but also oil of oregano.

And we put a specific, even in the digestive enzymes, we put a specific probiotic that is really, really good, a specific strain to kill the cephal, to kill the cephal, the fungal overgrowth, because that's what it is, guys. And I always tell this to women too, by the way. When you have a recurring urinary tract infection, and a lot of women get that, especially in menopausal years, it's fungus.

You better kill the fungus. That's why they want to give you antibiotics over and over and over again. And they're making the problem worse. That's why it reoccurs, because you have a yeast of fungus that covers the inner lining of the bladder.

It's the same thing that happens in the small intestine. You get yeast overgrowth. You better kill that and don't feed the bears, because yeast loves sugar. You'll never get rid of cephal if you don't get rid of sugar in your diet.

And things that turn to sugar in nanoseconds, like bread and pasta and noodles and crappy dinner and all that kind of stuff, it turns to sugar rapidly. It feeds fungal. It feeds yeast. Okay.

And the question is, studies show each individual antibiotic dose or to take probiotics once a day, not after each antibiotic dose that day. Well, if you're taking antibiotics, yeah, you need to take probiotics. It's antibiotics for anything. And if you're taking it for SIBO, which is CFO, I don't like it because it really is not a thing.

It's so much better if you do with the oil of oregano, you do it with probiotics, and don't feed the bears. If you do it that way is better. But if you're taking an antibiotic, okay, because people take antibiotics. I'm not against antibiotics.

People think I'm against them. I'm not. If you need an antibiotic, you've got an infection. It's raging.

You've got no choice. Okay. So I'm not against taking an antibiotic. If you need it, it might save your life.

But you need to replace, you need to replenish, you need to renew your microbiome because antibiotics, they carpet bomb the microbiome everywhere. Broad spectrum antibiotics, they destroy everything in their path, good, bad, and ugly. You better replace the good bacteria. So if you're not taking a probiotic and you're on antibiotics, you're making a big mistake, a big mistake.

And my patients knew this over the years. Like I talked probiotics. If you don't believe me, I talked about them 40 years ago, when nobody knew about. Only farmers were using probiotics in their feed.

Okay. People were eating yogurt, they didn't know why. Or eating fermented foods. But you can't beat a broad spectrum probiotic.

Thank you. I hope I answered your question, Chris. Helen, what does Dr. Martin think of creatine?

Well, I talk about it all the time. Eat steak. I like creatine. I like carnosine.

Okay. I like coQ10. I like the Cs in steak. Carnitine, carnosine, creatine, all found in steak.

If you want to take a supplement of creatine, hey, I got no issue with that. I really don't. But you guys know me. I always talk about you can't out supplement a bad diet.

One. And two, you got to eat. And why not eat creatine? Because when you have a steak, when you have eggs, you get creatine.

Okay. I'd rather you eat it. But if you want to supplement with it, hey, no problemo. I got no problem with it.

Okay. But I always emphasize food first. Always. Okay. And that was Helen.

Sylvia, is decaffeinated coffee just as good? Yeah, it's the bean. Make sure you're decaffeinated is water process. Okay.

Not chemically processed, water process. Decaffeinated. Decaffeinated, it's the bean. It's coffee.

If somebody asks me, I think it was a few weeks ago on this program. Can I take a bean, like a coffee bean and just, like she said, I don't like coffee. I feel sorry for you. But can I have a bean as a supplement?

I guess so. Okay. But a decaffeinated, there's no problem as long as that decaffeinated is done, like I say, a water process, not chemically processed. Guys, yes, it's the bean.

New study out yesterday on coffee again. Hold on a minute. Let's see if I can get it up real fast. Okay.

People who drank more coffee, this is a new study, had less body fat, less visceral fat, and more lean mass than non-drinkers of coffee. Coffee wins again. I used to say this all the time on my radio show. I got 150 studies on coffee.

I bet you I got over 300 studies on coffee. When I say it's the real vitamin C, I mean it. And guys, you guys all admit this. Anybody's ever followed me?

Some of you have followed me for 30 years or more on radio. I've been consistent. I've never veered to the right or left on coffee. I've said it when everybody was saying, coffee is acidic.

Coffee is no good for you. Coffee, coffee. And I said, you don't know what you're talking about. Even to my guru friends, women and guys that graduated with their PhD, coffee.

No, they were wrong. And I was right. Okay. Back to question.

Okay, that was Sylvia. Darla, can I take too much salt? No. Look, and I've done some teaching on salt.

Okay. Hey, salty, because that's you. Your tears are salt. Your stomach don't work without salt.

Your blood's got salt in it. Your saliva has salt in it. You're salty. Okay.

You sweat salty. Okay. The only time salt is, it's not even dangerous, but the only time salt is not good for you is when you're dehydrated. When you don't have enough water flowing through your blood vessel.

But guys, salt is absolutely necessary. They blame salt for what sugar does. It's not salt that kills your kidneys, like the doctors out there tell you. It's sugar that kills your kidneys.

And sugar makes your kidneys hold on to salt. You get edema when you're eating sugar. Not salt. You need salt.

Your tears are salt. You need salt for everything. It's good for you. Okay.

Now, don't take table salt. I'm not talking about that. Take a good salt. Okay.

A good Himalayan, or where it has all the minerals in it. A good kosher salt. 84 minerals in it. And use it on your food.

You know, medicine, even since I was a kid, oh, you better cut back on salt. You got high blood pressure. Well, salt's not causing high blood pressure. Sugar's causing high blood pressure.

So you're not getting too much salt. It's not if you're drinking water. Okay. If you don't drink water and all you're doing is consuming salt.

But you know what? Eliminating salt for heart disease, you know what it's done? Nothing. Nothing.

It might lower your blood pressure by a point. It doesn't even move the needle. It was so crazy. And you know, once it gets into the craw of medicine, you can't get it out of there.

You talk to doctors today, well, you know, cardiologists, they were wrong on butter. They were wrong on salt. They were wrong on statins. Did they get anything right?

They don't know anything about food. They didn't study food. So they tell you, well, you better cut back on salt. You know how many seniors don't add salt to their food because their doctors told them to cut it out?

Eww. And yet they're having sugar coming out their eyeballs. I get uptight. I get uptight.

Okay. Darla, I'm a 62 year old woman. I've had thin hair for years. Last few months, my hair has been getting very thin.

Could you be deficient in something? Well, your thyroid is a big factor. And your thyroid might be sluggish. Darla, hair is protein.

You might be very deficient in protein. A lot of women don't eat near enough protein. Can they eat chicken and saline? They live on saline.

That ain't going to help your hair. Steak helps your hair. You need protein because your hair is protein. Thyroid, you're probably sluggish.

Grace, I take 35% cream in my coffee. Yeah, you can do that. You want to put something in your coffee? Don't put sugar in there.

No sugar. But you can use cream. And heavy cream, I like. Okay.

Heavy cream, I like. So I'm giving you a high five, Grace. Yeah, you can have cream in your coffee. I prefer my coffee black.

It's better for you, black. But you want to add a little bit of cream to it? Just don't add milk. Like I see people, they add these soy milks and almond milks and all that.

And I get a migraine when I see that. That stuff, throw it in the garbage. Okay? Soy milk and almond milk.

And oh, I get a migraine. Okay. Could dairy be contributing to arthritis? Look, bad dairy, like if you're drinking grocery store milk, I don't like it because it's white Pepsi.

Okay? That's what I called it on this program. White Pepsi. That's store bought milk.

Why are you drinking that? You don't need it. Cream, butter? Nah, I don't buy it.

Look, everybody different. We've talked about that on the top of our program. Everybody's different. If you find by eliminating, like a lot of people used to come to my office and talk to Martin, I got a dairy allergy.

Okay. And I said, well, let's put you on the reset. Let's get you on the probiotics. Let's change your gut.

Let's rebuild that microbiome. And then they found, well gee, I can take dairy again. But I was never big on milk unless you have a cow in the backyard. I like cream, not milk.

Okay? Because that's what comes out of a cow. Cream, not milk. Well, it is.

It's milk. But you know, with the pasteurization today and good luck, like I said, if you have a cow in the backyard, like the pasteurization, the denatured milk, well what are you going to do? You live in North America. If you think you're getting rid of pasteurization, well good luck with that.

So I love dairy, but I like cheese. I like butter in cream. And guys, I've been consistent again about this. Let me say it again.

I don't want you drinking stuff. I want you to drink coffee and I want you to drink water and Dr. Martin's perfect smoothie, which is made with heavy cream because your kids will adore it and so will you. Okay?

But you know me. I want you to drink water. I want you to drink coffee and eat cheese. Eat cheese and butter.

Put butter on your steak. I've been consistent, guys. I haven't changed my mind. Okay, let's see.

We do one more? Yeah, let's do another. You have to find out grace, by the way. Okay?

Just like eliminate dairy completely and see how you do. Some people do and they find it better, but again, that's leaky gut. If you got trouble with dairy, it's because you got leaky gut. It's not the dairy so much.

Unless you're drinking milk. Get rid of milk. You don't need it. Don't drink it.

Kids don't need milk. They need mommy's milk and then wean them on water. Kids don't need to drink milk and milk's not like it used to be 100 years ago. Can you explain calcification in finger joints?

My husband had an x-ray and showed us he thought he had broken bone because of the pain. Well, I am very suspicious, Corrine, without knowing all the detail, that if your husband thought he broke his fingers, broken bone because of the pain. If you get calcification and it came out of nowhere, I'm suspicious that it's gout.

Okay? The calcification in there is uric acid. Somebody was asking about, let's do that. Why don't we do this?

Because somebody asked about pseudo gout. Okay? Gout is uric acid. A lot of people, they don't know that they have uric acid crystals.

Pseudo gout is calcium crystal. And it may be that. And when it comes and it flares up and very painful, like you can get osteoarthritis, right in the joints. And that can be painful, but it's usually not acute.

It's okay. It's usually not acute, meaning it just doesn't, oh, oh, gee, like I got real sore. Holy moly. Did I break my finger?

That can be gout, uric acid. It may be pseudo gout, calcium crystals. Two different things. Okay?

And one of the things too, like if you have an acute attack with gout and you take a blood test, it usually won't show up right away. You're having an attack, but the uric acid may actually be low at that time. But after the attack and you take a blood test, you'll find out if you have uric acid or not, if it's that celibate.

I do a lot of talk about gout because gout is so much more prevalent than it used to be. And it's caused by sugar. You see, they always blame gout on red meat, purines. Nope.

It's not that. It's high fructose corn syrup. It's fructose. Okay?

High fructose corn syrup. And that's why gout is up about 300% compared to what it used to be. Like gout's been around. You can read about gout in the Bible.

The king's disease. Well, the king was drinking too much wine, fructose. Okay. All right.

Let's leave it at that and we'll finish up. How many do I have here? I don't have that many, I don't think. But anyway, I got enough to do Q&A Monday.

So that's what we'll do. If I didn't answer your question, I'm going to do everything I can to do this on Monday. Okay, guys? Everything I can.

Okay. Now, let me just a couple of announcements. Okay, we talked about this and we'll pump it up a little bit more. And that's the, okay, I'm just showing you.

Doing a seminar in Sudbury on October the 15th. Sign up for that. Okay? At Seasons Pharmacy with our favorite pharmacist, Rochelle.

So sign up for that. If you live anywhere near Sudbury, why don't you come in and join us, okay, for a little evening of The Doctor is In. Okay? And it's going to be fun, guys.

Okay? So sign up for that. Okay, I'll post it again here. And we love you guys.

I want to see you if you can. Love to meet you. Okay? So many of you that are in our area in Northern Ontario.

Okay? So that'll be on October the 15th in Sudbury, in person. You can do it online too for our dear friends online. Okay?
