TRANSCRIPT OF TODAY'S EPISODE

Announcer:  You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.

Dr. Martin:  Well, good morning, everyone. And how are you? Once again, welcome to another live this morning. And soon to be the Doctor is in podcast.

Okay. Nice to have you come on and say hello, guys. You know that. Okay.

Louis, Louis is asking, I was always told, he said not to take supplements if silicon dioxide was in the ingredients. I don't know who told you that, Louis. You know that silicon dioxide is silica and it makes up most of the earth's crust. It's natural.

It's a natural compound. Look, you'd never take a supplement if that wasn't in it because that's what prevents the powder in a supplement from caking. And it's natural. And you would never take a pharmaceutical for the same reason.

Okay. It's what they use, but it's a natural compound. So I don't know who told you that. I mean, if you ever saw the amount of silica that manufacturers use so the powder doesn't cake.

I mean, it is such a small amount per capsule. That's nothing. Anyway, yeah, like, you know what, is because when you say the word sulfur dioxide, like people think, oh, man, like it's you got poison in there. No, not that at all.

It's a natural chemical found on the earth's crust. I ask all those questions. Look, I'll give you an example of our supplements. Okay.

I can't make them in my office. Okay. My grandfather used to, but you can't do that. You got to have a plant that is a manufacturing plant that is certified by Health Canada for their testing, for their sanitary conditions, for true labeling.

And the FDA does the same in the States. Like you just can't start in your backyard there. You want to make supplements. Well, you could, I guess, for yourself, but you ain't selling them.

There's rules, there's laws. Well, thank God. Anyway, sometimes people, they see a word and they, you know, like they go crazy because, you know, they're minute ingredients, but most of the products have them. Okay.

Andrea is asking about how to prevent age spots. Well, look, don't get old. If you think, okay, if you think, guys, let's just be, let's just be right out honest. Okay.

Me, moi, I take care of myself. What you hear on this program is what I try and do for me. Okay. I'm eggs, meat and cheese.

Ask anybody. Okay. It doesn't mean I don't have fruits and vegetables, but I don't live on them. Okay.

I love, when you look at the skin, you start on the inside out. Oh, and you know, you want to make sure you don't have leaky gut because that'll have a major effect on your skin. Okay. And, but at the end of the day, everything you're going to do, you want to do Botox and everything else.

Yeah. Well, you're still going to age and some age quicker than others. And that I think you can help by working on the inside. Like that's why I love antioxidants.

Like we have our own skin gel called Rivera, our formula. I'd put it up against any formula in terms of skin. You're going to stop aging? Hmm.

Good luck with that. And you know, you do everything you can though. I know a lot of you, when I see pictures of you guys, you know, that maybe you posted on Facebook, on our private Facebook group and that, you look pretty good to me. You know, and you do everything you can, but you know, you're going to get, look at me, I got wrinkles.

Okay. Some people that I say, you need glasses. See, I look pretty good for my age. I say, you need glasses.

You need to change optometrists. But hey guys, it happens to the best of us, but you try and delay it, right? You try and delay it as much as you can. Okay.

I mean, and specifically Andrea, I would tell you, look, Navitol on the inside, powerful antioxidant. Okay. Very good for your skin. And Rivera on the outside, but olive oil is good too on your skin.

It really is. Okay. Laurie, her daughter has low iron, started a liquid supplement. She's getting the headaches and a lot of things it may be due to caffeine.

Look, I guess it's possible. Caffeine, like you got to look, Laurie, a couple of things. Okay. 99% of the people, 99%, never get a headache from caffeine, but your daughter might be in that 1% that gets headaches when they have caffeine.

If she goes to decaffeinated, she'll find out. She'll find out, I don't buy it because caffeine doesn't lower your iron. Okay. And if she has low iron, she's got other issues going on.

Definitely anemic. And you know, that can be caused by, you know, a malabsorption. She's not eating enough meat. That gives me a headache.

And usually when I saw patients that had headaches, a couple of things, usually, usually they were low in magnesium. They had a very gummed up liver. Their thyroid wasn't working to the extent it should. And a lot of times that was hormones with an estrogen dominance and low levels of progesterone.

I used to do the complete workup and low in B12 can affect that. But look, if she's the 1% that, oh, the only reason I'm getting headaches is because I'm drinking caffeine. Eh, you're the 1%. You're rare.

I can't use the word weird anymore because people say it offends people. Okay, you're unique. And that happens in medicine. If you don't understand that people are unique, we all have our own fingerprints.

We have our own eye. We have our own DNA. You know, I went through the airport the other day. They scanned my eyeballs.

Why? Well, they're different than anybody else's. Unique. But when I talk here in generalities, I would say it's not caffeine.

Okay, it's not caffeine. But she will know, just go drink a cup of decaffeinated. If it doesn't give you a headache, well, then you got your answer. But I'm 99% sure it's not that, Laurie.

She's got other issues. Okay. Tam, if someone is fasting for a day or two, is it okay to take a before meal or with food vitamins? Yeah, like when you're fasting, I don't recommend you not take your supplements.

Guys, you know me so and those of you who are new on this program, if you don't know me, here's what I think of fasting. Okay, do I like it? Yeah. Do I think it's great?

I like intermittent fasting. I'm not big on going 48 hours, for example, without food. Now, if someone gave you the diagnosis of cancer, and you said, okay, I'm going to get real serious here. And there seems to be some research that shows if you go on a, you know, a 48 hour or some people have even 72 hour fast with only water and coffee and coffee.

Okay. And some people, they do well. But most people, okay, most people to fast for a few days, first of all, it's not practical. And secondly, I can give you a way of fasting without fasting.

Okay. So number one, intermittent fasting, that means eating within windows. And the best thing is to stop eating at night. Don't eat at night.

Fast overnight. Don't snack. I know there's a Netflix syndrome where people this, you know, if I'm watching a movie, I got to have popcorn. Well, if you can get into a habit of not eating at night, think about that.

If you stop at six o'clock, even better at five. And you go till six o'clock the next morning while you've done 12 hours. And even better to get into 14 hours. And that really helps.

Helps your body. Now listen, when you're fasting without fasting, okay, so during the day and you're eating eggs, meat and cheese and butter, and maybe a little bit of cream, you're fasting without fasting. And the reason is, and I almost named my book, Sun, Steak and Steal, fasting without fasting. Why?

Because when you eat those foods, you're not eating anything. When you eat those foods, you're not secreting insulin. And you know what I think about insulin. It's your friend till it becomes your enemy.

So I like fasting without fasting. I always used to tell my patients, you got to eat anyways. Like you ain't fasting the rest of your life. Okay.

You're just going to have to eat. Now, if you make the right choices, you make the right choices, and you eat foods that you don't need where insulin is sitting on the sidelines, you have no idea how good that is for you. So if you want to really fast without eating, okay. Okay.

You might be doing it for spiritual reasons. That's all right. But I like generally people that fast without fasting. They fast at night.

Okay. They fast at night. Don't eat at night. Let the rest and digest button come on.

That is so good for you. And then use very little insulin during the day. That is the healthiest way to eat. Okay.

That's just the way it is. The way it is. Because when you eat carbohydrates, you need insulin. And the biggest problem in our society today is metabolic syndrome.

It's caused by insulin resistance. Using too much insulin over a period of time puts you on the Titanic. And I see it every day. I saw it every day.

I wrote about it. I talked about it on my radio show over and over and over again. Yeah, you can take your vitamins, damn. Somebody asked somebody, let me just get this there because why not?

Okay. Richard, does adding heavy cream with my coffee in the morning break my fast? Yes and no. Yes.

If you're technically fasting, meaning no food, no calories, then you take cream in your coffee, heavy cream, which is good for you. Yeah, technically you are breaking your fast. But when you're fasting without fasting, you're not. Because cream, you don't need insulin.

You just don't. I'm answering your question, Richard. Somebody asked another one about that too, I thought. Fasting.

Oh, maybe not. Joanne, why don't I have S. bullardi in my probiotics? I like S.

bullardi. Guess where it is? It's in our digestive enzyme. We put that bacteria in our digestive enzyme because it really helps with digestion.

Guys, you know me. If you can find a better probiotic on the market than our formula, I invite you to go find it because it's the best. In my opinion, I'm very biased, but I used it clinically for years. It fixes leaky gut.

It is so good for you. And the S. bullardi, I like S. bullardi, but we put it in our digestive enzyme because it really helps with digestion.

Good question. How about Joanne? Amber, look what Amber says. Because she's saying the same thing as our first one.

Who was the first one? Louie. Amber, I was placing an order and I saw that you have silicone dioxide in your digestive enzymes and gutties. Yep, I answered the question, Amber.

Your fear of that is unfounded. You're putting a chemical in there. No, it's not. It's natural.

It's found everywhere on the planet. Silicone dioxide or silica. When I was in school, I learned silica. It's natural.

It ain't hurting you. Okay. What? And I thought that wasn't good.

Look, Amber, I think I set you straight on that. Okay. Her husband and daughter complained that the vitamin C that we put in Navitol makes them nauseous. First time I ever heard that.

But again, Amber, I'm not dismissing it. Look, you guys know what I think about vitamin C. Coffee. The real vitamin C.

Now, that doesn't mean I don't believe in the other one. It's scorbic acid. Okay. I do.

I do. I know all about vitamin C. The other one. Okay.

The real one is coffee. The other one is scorbic acid. Okay. And if you don't get it, you get scurvy.

And one of the reasons that people are low in vitamin C is because sugar mimics the scorbic acid. It almost looks the same to yourself. So people are very high in sugar and very low in vitamin C. But look, I like it in Navitol.

I found out years ago that pine bark synergistically works with a scorbic acid, vitamin C. Vitamin C on its own in a supplement. I never liked it. To be honest, I'm taking vitamin C.

The only time I suggested vitamin C alone, generally, was in an IV. Because there's pretty good research on IVs of vitamin C, scorbic acid, for cancer. Alternative cancer treatments often have vitamin C in an IV. High, high doses.

Okay. And if I had cancer, I would do it. Okay. IVs of vitamin C.

But I found out years ago. I had a colleague of mine, and he wrote several books. Dr. Richard Passwater.

And I picked this guy's brain, okay, a lot. He picked mine a little bit. Because he didn't know much about pine bark extract. He didn't know it worked for chronic fatigue syndrome.

Okay. He didn't know that. I remember sitting beside him on our, we went to a meeting to a conference in France together. Okay.

We were both speaking at this conference. And he was speaking on alpha-lipoic acid. You can look him up. He died several years ago now, but he was a guru.

Very, very smart. Wrote several books. But he didn't know about pine bark. And when he researched it, he really liked the idea of using it with vitamin C.

He said, vitamin C on his own, he wasn't that big on it. But he really liked the synergistic effect of putting pine bark extract with vitamin C. He says it stays in the body much longer. The problem with vitamin C is you pee it out in an awful hurry.

In a supplement, just not that bio available. Not like pine bark, which stays in your body for 72 hours. It's very bio available. But if you put the two together, you know, again, if you're unique and you find the vitamin C, I don't know how you would know that, that it's the vitamin C in pine bark that makes you nauseous.

That doesn't make sense to me, but I always understand, or at least try and understand, the uniqueness of people. We're different. But in general, I never heard them. I can't say I've ever heard of it before.

And as far as I know, I'm the only guy that ever put vitamin C and pine bark extract together. Okay, the acerola cherry. I like that. And I learned that from Dr.

Passwater. Okay, let me see. Joanne again. Okay, you're talking about Joanne, your cheap bottles, moisture, vapor transmission studies on probiotic package in plastic bottles.

You know what, Joanne, I'm going to tell you right out of the gate, you're wrong. Okay, you're wrong. How do I know that? Because what we do is test before and after on our probiotic.

We have them tested third party, send a certain amount of bottle over to a third party and check for the bacteria count in a probiotic. So before bottling, during bottling, after bottling. Okay, our manufacturer of our probiotics, they do third party testing, send it out, we get the results on that. How much live bacteria and can I tell you something about the 50 billion about, I don't know how they count because how do you count the 50 billion?

But do you know what? That months after, months after in a plastic bottle, which 99% of the manufacturers use. I know it sounds like people have asked me this before, Dr. Martin, why do you use plastic?

Well, look, do you want to pay another 20 bucks? Because that's what it's going to cost you. Because manufacturers, look at the pharmaceuticals, they come in plastic bottle. They're not using glass bottle.

You know how expensive that is? And the plastic doesn't leach into the supplement. They don't. So when you read that they do, I'm not saying you couldn't use glass bottles.

99% of manufacturers won't do it. It's too expensive. And guess who's going to pay for that? So I disagree with you because we test before, during and after for the supplements, for their active ingredients, third party testing, months on the shelf.

And they check and see if contamination, none. And look, the manufacturing, like I said earlier, manufacturing in the United States and Canada. Look, you're not living in the third world here. The rules are you wouldn't believe, especially in Canada, how stringent they are.

They're crazy. They're pharmaceutical grade stringent. Even on natural products, or you don't get an NHP number. You just don't.

I disagree. Hey, I'm glad you asked. It gets me on a rant. Jesse was asking about Rose, the beetroot.

Yeah, I like Navitol better, but they both elevate nitric oxide. Pine bark is better in my opinion. Stage four, lymphedema, obese, cannot lose weight. Rhonda is asking that question.

It's not easy lymphedema. You can wear compression socks and you can elevate your legs and you got issues. Your limbs are not trained. There's no magic.

Anybody tells you there's magic for lymphedema? They're lying to you because they've never seen it. There's no magic. Oh, you just do this.

I like rebounding. But is it going to fix it? Not if you got stage four lymphedema. Will it improve?

Yeah. But you ain't fixing it. I haven't seen it. Okay, not going to lie to you.

Mary, does turmeric and curcumin cause kidney damage? No, they don't. You know how good curcumin is for you? Curcumin is the extract of turmeric.

Very bioavailable with black pepper. Okay. What causes bubble in the urine usually? Protein leakage, protein.

It's protein in the blood. Kidneys are stressed. Okay. Guys, I think I got them all.

We got a great week tomorrow. Tomorrow, special guest. Tomorrow morning, 8.30 AM. Okay. I'll post about it. Okay. Special guest tomorrow. Okay?

Love you guys. Talk to you soon.
