Announcer: You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.
Dr. Martin: Well, good morning, everyone. And how are you? Nice to have you on again this morning, guys. If you can come on live, we always appreciate that.
Okay, guys, this study, okay, out of Ohio State, very, very interesting. You know, guys, I used to use this expression, it'll knock your socks off. Okay, it'll knock your socks off. Some studies are knocking the socks off because they're so unreal.
Listen to this one, guys. Ohio State, highly processed diet for 28 days. Okay, highly processed. Go into the middle aisles of your grocery store, even in the frozen food section, a lot of foods are processed.
Okay, a lot of foods are processed. Your packaged goods, pasta, cereal, breads, highly processed, a lot of them. Okay. So what they did for 28 days, they got highly processed food.
Okay, 28 days. And here's what happened. The effect on the brain was dramatic. Changed the brain in 28 days.
Okay. And here's what they saw. Okay. Before and after, they tested their cognitive capabilities.
In 28 days, it went downhill rapidly. They were shocked by it. Okay. The two centers of the brain significantly affected.
The memory center, which is your hypo-campus, hippo-campus, whatever you call it, campus. Okay. I love that they named it campus. Why?
Memory. School. It's easy for me to remember that. I remember that in school in the 70s.
Oh, the hypo-campus. Okay. Don't forget it. And your hypothalamus is where your hormones originate.
So, you know me, two areas of the brain. I mean, there's others, but the two that you're to be concerned about, the hypo-campus, memory, the librarian lives there, the hypothalamus, hormones live there. Okay. That ain't right.
You can have trouble. Now, what they found, especially in the hypo-campus, it changed the hypo-campus. Okay. Here's what they said.
The hypo-campus and the amygdala. Oh, I hate those big words. Okay. The hypo-campus is the librarian and the amygdala parked right beside it, is the emotional center of the brain.
Okay. Your feelings and emotional memories. Anyway, emotional memories and anyway, isn't that amazing within 28 days of eating processed foods? It changes the brain.
Now, here's the good news. Okay. That's the bad news. Doesn't take long.
Change your diet. Doesn't take long. Change the brain. So, can you imagine the kids today consuming a dump truck of sugar, processed carbohydrates, the noodles, the crappy dinner, the pizza that they live on, the pop tarts.
Imagine having a pop tart for breakfast and thinking that was good for you. Well, they showed in 28 days, man, it does damage. Now, the good news is the same people, here's what they did. Okay.
For dramatic improvement. Okay. Researchers found something, I'm quoting, very interesting when they added DHA to processed foods. The brain was protected.
Guys, this is a blow your socks off study. 28 days changes the brain. Not for the better, for the worse. Bad food affects the brain.
Remember, guys, we teach it here all the time. Your brain headquarters, the federal government, 25% of everything you eat ends up here. And then they get autism and they never look at food. They get ADD and they never look at food.
You know, you get a doctor, they can't even think of food. But if they would only ask a teacher and ask a parent, give a kid sugar and see what happens to them. A parent knows. Grandparents, we don't know because we give them sugar.
Because we can't say no. And we want to punish our kids. Give them back some of their medicine. Here, sweetheart, have some ice cream and sugar and we're sending you home to your parents.
Okay. So that they got to deal with you. You'll become for them the Tasmanian devil. Remember that?
Okay. Now, here's what they do. They added DHA to the food, processed food. They added DHA.
And you know what happened? Amazing. Look, the brain was protected. The brain was protected from that damage.
By adding DHA, it shocked the living life out of the people at Ohio State. They were shocked. They must have been listening to our programs. DHA.
Remember, guys, DHA, your brain is made up of DHA. If you want to know, someone calls you a fat head, you take it as a compliment. On the opposite end of fat is the shrinking brain. And when they do autopsies on Alzheimer's, they don't even have to do an autopsy.
All they got to do is take an MRI of the brain, a brain scan, and you know what they find in Alzheimer's dementia? You know what they find? A prune. What?
Your brain has become a prune. It shrank. I've seen MRI images of them. I've seen images in autopsies of brains that were damaged by dementia, Alzheimer's.
The brain shrinks. It loses its fat. It becomes fat free. Wasn't that the stupidest thing that the world ever created?
Guys, one of the stupidest things is a fat free diet. I was John the Baptist in the 70s, in the 80s, in the 90s, screaming in the wilderness, don't do it. Don't fall for it. Ladies, don't fall for fat free.
Oh, Dr. Martin, I'm eating fat free yogurt. That's stupid. I even got fat free salad dressing.
That's stupid. I don't eat steak because it's fat. That's stupid. I limit my eggs because there's fat in the yolk.
That's stupid. But the world went stupid. You can go in the grocery stores today, even today in 2026, fat free or low fat. And your brain needs fat.
And it is hungry for, has an enormous appetite for a certain kind of fat. And that is DHA. And the researchers at Ohio State, they found that out. Guys, let me give you a little memo.
I'm going to give you a little bit of a summary of what I'm talking about. You got kids, you got grandchildren. If you think you're going to keep them away from sugar totally, well, good luck with that. Okay.
Good luck with that. But at least protect their brains. I saw this in my office thousands of times, children bouncing off the walls. They couldn't sit still for five seconds.
The poor parents, teachers, doctors, they wanted to put them on meds, calm them down, on riddle them. And a lot of parents said, that can't be right. Okay. I heard about this cook down the street there, Dr.
Martin, let's take that child. And you know, I would get the child and say, listen, these children are smart. Okay. And I would teach them.
What you put in your mouth is affecting your brain. And the parents too. What you start their day with, very important. It's headquarters.
And they happen to be the canary in the coal mine. Their brains are very fragile. And when you give them sugar, when you give them food that turns to sugar and frosted flakes aren't great. I have to teach that.
These kids, you mean fruit loops are not good for me, doc? No, they're not. I said, you like bacon? Oh, I love bacon.
Good. I want you to have it every morning. Every morning. Have bacon instead of fruit loops.
We did a little teaching. Kids are smart. I said, do you like being in trouble all the time? No.
No. And then I get the parents. Okay. Now listen, parents, listen.
Their little brains, they're made up of fat. And I want you to give them fat. DHA. Watch.
Oh, you should see their testimonies. I'm thinking this morning of a teacher who's calling me. Okay. Call the office.
I got to talk to Dr. Martin. Okay. I got back to her and she said, Dr.
Martin, I don't know what you did to that kid. What a deference. What kid? I couldn't even hardly remember.
But it was always the same. I'm not saying you can never to a child. You think I'm going to say you're never going to have another pizza again. Come on.
Good luck with that. No, you know what I did? I said, do you like pizza? I love pizza, Dr.
Martin. Okay. I said, now I'm going to show you something. You can have a slice of it.
Okay. One slice. On the second one, you take the toppings and eat that only. Don't eat the crust.
Don't eat the bread because that turns to sugar in nanoseconds. Can you do that? Yeah, I think I can do that. I said, what a difference it's going to make in your brain.
And mommy's going to give you something every day. DHA. Okay. Now guys, in Omega 3, it's like there's different cars on the road, right?
There's Hondas, there's Kias, there's Chevrolet, there's Chrysler, they're different cars, right? Well, you've got different Omega 3s. For example, in a fish oil, okay, you've got EPA and DHA. They're both good.
EPA is good, but, and this is a big but. What your brain needs is DHA. EPA, a little bit. EPA is all right.
No problem. But the best, what your brain needs and what they found out in Ohio State, there's nothing that will protect your brain more than DHA oil. And guys, you must admit, I've been talking about this for a long time. Yeah, Dr.
Martin, what about this? What about that? Yeah, yeah, yeah, I like it. I got no problem.
But if you're not taking DHA for your brain, you are making a mistake. You're making a mistake. Someone asked me, Dr. Martin, you like fish?
Well, I have fish every day in a capsule. High DHA, high DHA. And they measured it because DHA, here's what they said, becomes incorporated into membranes surrounding the neurons in your brain. Your brain cells, maintaining structure, flexibility, and ability to communicate, it improves markers of inflammation.
That's very important in the brain. It protects the brain. Guys, it's amazing. Okay, now, on the heels of this, okay?
Now, on the heels of this, Gaddafi's going to bring this to you last week. But there was two new studies, okay? Two other studies on DHA. Might as well touch them all this morning, right?
Okay. Researchers gave DHA to 500 men and women over the age of 55 who were experiencing age-related memory decline, okay? 500. Half took 900 milligrams of DHA a day, okay?
The other were given placebo. They thought they were taking DHA, but they weren't, okay? They just thought so. And after 24 weeks, they measured on their cognitive scores.
It was dramatic. The ones that actually took the DHA and not the placebo were two times sharper than the other group on cognitive scores. Their brain improved, okay? That was one study.
Another study on DHA, even more results. Listen to this. 240 adults with mild cognitive impairment, meaning they weren't at the stage of dementia yet. And remember, guys, Alzheimer's is the leading form of dementia, okay?
Cognitive decline and Alzheimer's is the leading form of dementia because you can get different types of dementia, including people with Parkinson's, okay? They get a dementia, part of their brain damage. And okay, so 240 adults with mild cognitive impairment, meaning it was pre-dementia. Half took 2000 milligrams of DHA for one year, okay?
For one year. The other half, placebo. Again, they didn't know. They thought they were taking DHA.
Same amount as the other group, but they didn't know. They were taking a placebo. They did it for a year and then they saw what, okay? Wow.
They did MRI. And there was a big difference in the group that took the 2000 milligrams of DHA in one year. They were taking in one year. The huge difference in the shrinkage of the hippocampus, hypocampus, whatever.
You insert FAP into the brain. Add FAP, especially DHA. Why do I love it so much? Yeah, the results, okay?
I used to see it all the time in the office. I was a DHA guy. I'd been a DHA guy for a long time. And other people go, Dr.
Martin, what about krill oil and that, and you know, hey, I like them all. I do. Put in the healthy FAD. I got no trouble with that, but you need high DHA.
And the research is very, very conclusive about it. It changes the brain. Fathead. I'm calling my audience, you bunch of fatheads.
I'm complimenting you. You're smart. But I like these studies because it's showing me and reinforcing in me the importance of DHA. Now, I've shown you studies.
Well, there's one major study out of France, I believe, on DHA and being a tumor buster in 14 days. A tumor buster. And part of my protocol, anytime I ever had a cancer patient or whatever, I said, guys, look, whether you take chemo or radiation or whatever you're going to do, you're going to be under a lot of pressure to follow the oncologist.
Okay? Your family's going to pressure you. Everybody's going to pressure you. And look, I said, look, let me tell you what to do besides that.
Okay? Let me tell you what to do besides that. Here's my protocol. Okay?
And you know how fat. No sugar. Okay? Vitamin D.
Check your levels. High DHA. You got a tumor. It'll bust it.
Destroy it. I've been talking about DHA for a long time. I've used it in my practice, like I said, with kids for years and years and years. Kids get on DHA.
I put them on Navitol because it crosses the blood-brain barrier. I had kids taking a few supplements. You know, I didn't like to fill their life with supplements. I wanted them to eat right.
You can't out supplement a bad diet. DHA. DHA. I love it.
I like EPA too. Okay? Don't come after me. I like it.
There's good, better, best. That's me. Bah. And I tell you, I take it every day.
I want to protect my noggin up here. Even my eyes. Because your eyeballs got DHA in them. How do you like that?
Yep. Okay. Interesting studies, huh? Okay.
Now, guys, what's tomorrow? Q&A. Q&A. So that's tomorrow.
So send your questions in. Info. At martinclinic.com. I had a memory lapse.
I need more DHA. I was thinking, how do they get their questions into me? Guys, I do this every day. Every day.
I pull out my senior card. I'm a senior. I forgot. Okay.
Love you guys. Talk to you soon. Thank you.
