TRANSCRIPT OF TODAY'S EPISODE
Announcer: You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.
Dr. Martin: Well, good morning, everyone. And once again, welcome to another live this morning. Nice to have you guys come on and say hello if you can, as you get your notifications this morning on Facebook live and the doctors in podcast. We appreciate you guys.
And we thank you for the audience that comes on that when they can, we understand that not everybody can watch Facebook live, but you can always watch it after and thousands and thousands do. We appreciate that. Hey, we love you guys. Okay.
And this is just a study. We got several that I want to go over here. Okay. One of them is just confirming what you and I talk about so much.
Have you ever heard of insulin? Do we ever get a day where we don't talk about insulin? Probably not, right? I can't think of a day that I haven't talked about insulin.
And this study is just confirming what we've said for so many years and that insulin resistance may begin years before blood glucose becomes abnormal. That is so important, guys. So important. When those folks were on the maiden voyage, they were on the voyage of the Titanic.
The unsinkable ship it was called. No way on God's earth was that ship going to come down. You couldn't sink it. According to the builders, I always loved reading the story of the Titanic.
And I used that story in my mind to talk about metabolic syndrome. You know, it's amazing that a lot of people have not heard of metabolic syndrome and what it is. And this study is confirming what you and I talk about almost daily. And that is diabetes is the last thing to happen.
Not the first, the last. People that were on the Titanic, they were not worried an iota, unfortunately, about icebergs in the North Atlantic. They should have been, but they weren't. Our world today, North America, 93% of the population is on the Titanic.
And lots of things are happening in their bodies. And they don't know. They don't know. They don't understand the significance of insulin.
And this study is saying, let me read it to you, insulin resistance begins years before diabetes. Let me add to that. Because metabolic syndrome is the precursor. It's the precursor to diabetes.
Yes, 100%. Because insulin and diabetes, you have a direct connection. But what medicine hasn't caught up with yet, they just haven't, is that there's a direct link of insulin resistance. Remember now, guys, remember this.
When I talk about insulin, we're talking about food. Insulin is a food hormone. And when you have a bad relationship with insulin, and you don't even know it, most people don't know it because, well, number one, they don't listen to this program. They should.
They should. But nobody's told them because they wait. Medicine is in the waiting business. They wait till you get sick.
They wait till your blood work shows them, oh, danger. And then they want to put you on a medication rather than change your diet. And this study is confirming that insulin resistance is the first thing to happen. It puts you on the Titanic.
It puts you on the ship. It puts you in trouble. And you know, like I said, I used to draw lines in the office. Draw lines.
Okay. And the line from your pancreas, which secretes insulin, and the line to your brain, Alzheimer's, the line to your heart, the line to your kidneys, the line to your cells, cancer cells, there's a direct correlation. I used to give seminars, go back, oh heck, 2015 or, oh, earlier than that, because I wrote a book in 2011, Serial Killers, Two Hormones I Want You Dead.
We wrote a book on the 100th anniversary of the Martin Clinic. Never thinking for a minute that it would become a big seminar, I wrote a book. And it was a big seller. Got people thinking.
We talked about insulin and insulin resistance. Deadly. And you look today, what are the four biggest killers in our society today? Health-wise.
Disease-wise. What are the four big killers? Number one, heart disease. Medicine blames cholesterol.
We blame insulin. Insulin. Metabolic syndrome. What will kill you is food.
Medicine, God bless them, but they don't think about food. You're hungry, eat. Eat in moderation. Make sure you're getting fiber.
Make sure you're getting grains. Lots of vegetables. Lots of fruit. Watch out on steak.
Don't eat too many eggs. Certainly don't eat bacon. Whatever you do, it's got saturated fat. Eat our cereal.
You need fiber. So what happens? People are on the Titanic. 93% of the population.
Look around. Go to the mall today, wherever you are, and look. 93% of the population have metabolic syndrome. They're on the Titanic and they don't know it.
Because they're not looking at blood tests that would tell them. It's being ignored pretty well by medicine. You're not on the Titanic. You're not a diabetic.
Yeah, but the icebergs are all around. I love the story of the Titanic. The California. The ship.
It was a Morris Code. Hey, Titanic. Lots of icebergs. Be careful.
True story. They turned off their warning device on the Titanic. They got tired of hearing from the California. Quit telling us we're in trouble.
To be careful. We don't want to hear it no more. Turn up the music. The band started playing louder on the Titanic.
We're unsinkable. People, they look and they, instead of getting into prevention, they think medication is prevention. They created a medication called Metformin. That's preventative.
They said, no, you're already, you're, you already hit an iceberg. And my practice completely changed in the 2000s. I went from chronic fatigue, chronic fatigue, you know, more specialized in that. Very few people, very few doctors even listened to people that had chronic fatigue.
They didn't know what to do. They didn't understand fibromyalgia. They didn't understand chronic fatigue syndrome. They didn't understand ME.
They didn't understand any of that. And I had answers for them and a protocol on how to help that. And then I still, of course, saw a lot of that. But the biggest shift, the paradigm shift in my office was to metabolic syndrome.
I was fascinated by insulin and what it did and what it was doing to my patients. I saw lots of it. And that's where the reset come out of. It came out of that.
I had so many diabetic or what, you know, in those days they called the pre-diabetic. I had so many hundreds and hundreds of those patients. I said, we got to fix that without meds, food. Let's see what happens.
It was amazing. In 30 days, you could reverse it in most cases. And one of the biggest takeaways, one of the biggest takeaways of that, people who went on a 30-day program, they understood their bodies for the first time. They understood that they had an enormously bad relationship with carbohydrates and bread and pasta and noodles and sugars and sweets and pastries and bagels and muffins.
And they were, and juice, trapeze. They found out they had a bad, bad relationship with that. And they weren't processing it properly. And then when they understood that, what an education.
I used to tell patients, trust me for 30 days, give me your trust. You waited a long time to come and see me. I know you thought maybe I'd just give you a pill, but no, I'm giving you a program. I'm giving you a diet.
And there's a reason for my madness. You might think I'm crazy, but I'm telling you that insulin, insulin resistance is the first step to chronic disease. It's food. And you, you can control this.
Not me, you can control this. And we're going to prove it because we're doing all your blood work. We're reviewing it. You're on the Titanic.
Why? Well, your E1C is high. Well, my doctor didn't say it was high. Yeah, but he's waiting for diabetes.
I'm not waiting for diabetes. Diabetes, again, is the last thing that's going to happen. Your triglycerides are high. They are?
What's that? They're fat balls. You mean I've got to cut down on eating fat? No, it's the opposite.
You've got to cut down on eating carbs. Carbs are what cause triglycerides to go up. So we checked your blood work. Your triglycerides are up.
Your E1C is up. Your HDL cholesterol is down. I want your cholesterol to go up. What?
What? Yeah, I want your cholesterol to go up, not down. Now, you've been sold a bill of goods about cholesterol, that it's a bad guy. It's a good guy.
It's on your side. There are Amazon trucks on the highways of your blood vessel. They're delivering your hormones, number one, and they have a wagon on the back, a second trailer to take your triglycerides out of your bloodstream. You don't want fat balls in your bloodstream.
You don't want them staying there. You want them packed up and shipped back to the liver for processing. So it was an education through blood work. We can prove it.
Your doctor's looking at these numbers. I'm looking at different set of numbers. Your doctor's looking at your total cholesterol and your LDL cholesterol. And well, first of all, if that worked, we would have got rid of heart disease by now because the number one selling medication of all time was this cholesterol lowering medication.
Imagine that we got duped so badly with that. And guys, I've been screaming this for a long time. I did a lot of dog and pony shows in my day, seminars all over the place, talked about radio show for years and years. The guests on many other radio shows telling people you've been duped.
They're not looking at the right things. They're looking in the wrong places. It ain't cholesterol. Well, it is cholesterol, but it's because your cholesterol is low.
We can actually do that. We can actually determine if you're on the Titanic. You can determine it by blood work. And we showed the relationship.
I used to show the line. I draw a line to your blood pressure. My blood pressure is high, doc. Yeah, metabolic syndrome.
You're on the Titanic. Having high blood pressure, not a good thing. Doctors and I agree with that. What I don't agree with is that they just put you on med and they don't look at the underlying factors.
What's the underlying factors? Well, when you eat too much sugar, it affects your kidneys. Your kidneys hold on to fluid and your blood pressure goes up. When you change your diet and you're not eating sugar anymore, amazing what happens to the kidneys.
It's amazing. And of course, there's a direct link. And even medicine would agree with this line, a direct link between diabetes and your kidneys. Big time.
Let me get out a chart here. I think I posted this chart like in women. One of the things with guy's heart disease, if you are a diabetic, okay, if you're diabetic, you're 10 times, 10 times more likely to have a heart attack or stroke. Everyone knows that.
10 times. So metabolic syndrome is what happens before diabetes, way before. And you know, this study is saying, yes, be careful. Insulin resistance begins years before blood glucose becomes abnormal.
Hello. I've been saying this for so many years. Guys, this is why I want you, you as an individual, understand you don't have to be a rocket scientist. You don't have to have an MD at the end of your name.
You take control of your health. You get off the Titanic. You understand your blood work. You look for very specific things on your blood work.
That's taking charge of your health. Right? And you know our little saying here, right? I flew last week or the week before.
Can't remember now. You get on a plane and I traveled a lot in my lifetime. When the stewardess gets on and they go through, you know, in the event that you need oxygen, you don't have to think about it. The oxygen mass will fall from the ceiling.
I could get up and do it before the flight takes off. And I emphasize, because I heard it so many times, I kind of like it. When the oxygen mass comes down out of the ceiling, start by putting your mask on yourself. You do you first before you help anybody else.
That's important. It's not being selfish. You can't help anybody else. You got to be a good person.
You got to be a good person. You can't help anybody else. You got to help yourself. You got to take responsibility.
And don't fool yourself. Don't be deceived. The worst deception is self-deception. A lot of people do that.
Oh, Doc, don't worry. I ain't doing that 30-day program. It's hard. Yeah.
Especially when you're a carbaholic. You'll find out. If you didn't know before, you'll find out. When you start eating whole foods, whole foods, when you start eating meat and eggs and good dairy, you'll find out that you were a carbaholic.
You'll find out. And when you find out, the light comes on. You put the oxygen mask on first. And you might tell other people, how do you think this program?
Think of this. I'm a little guy in I'm a little guy in Northern Ontario. Insignificant. And yet we have millions of followers on our podcast.
Millions of downloads. People are interested in their health. They really are. But you got to help yourself first.
You got to do it. And then when you understand that the precursor to all the major chronic diseases, heart disease, it's a metabolic disease. Look, medicine went crazy 30, 40 years ago. I'm trying to think when there was a big paradigm shipped in medicine towards genetics.
If your daddy or your mommy had heart disease, that's your problem. If your mommy or daddy had diabetes, that's your problem. It's genetics. I never bought it.
Not that genetics don't have a factor. Guys, I tell you the story all the time. It's very personal for me. My father was a diabetic.
My grandfather's a diabetic. Lots of diabetes in our family. It comes out our ears. We're diabetic in our family.
I live this, guys, what I'm telling you. But almost every chronic condition, heart disease, cancer, it's not genetic. Genetics load the gun, okay? But lifestyle pulls the trigger.
You might have a loaded gun. I got a loaded gun, guy. Diabetes all over me. But, but, I put the oxygen mask on first before I talk to you.
I understand the importance of food. I understand the importance of insulin. I understand metabolic syndrome. And I understood it when I was 16 years old to the extent that I could because of my dad.
I watched him. Never forgot that. Son, it's sugar. What?
It's sugar. Sugar diabetes. Dad, why aren't you having any more sugar in your diet? Because it's sugar diabetes.
Alzheimer's. Sugar diabetes of the brain. It's sugar diabetes of the brain. Lines, right?
Some people, they get heart disease. You look under the hood, why did they get heart disease? Genetics? What?
Lifestyle. Genetics might be a factor, but you can override genetics. You can override them. It's lifestyle.
Guys, do you think I'm joking about the reset? I'm telling you. Before it ever became public, it was in my office at thousands and thousands of patients. Go home for 30 days and you'll thank me later.
No toast? How can I have bacon and eggs without toast? Suck it up, buttercup. I want you to find out what you're built like.
I want you to understand you're on the Titanic. This is important. Go home and do it. If I could do it for you, I would, but I can't.
You've got to do it. You've got to find out what you're like. And then they go, yeah, yeah, that's me. That's me.
And then their blood work would change. Proof in the pudding. Their blood pressure would come down, the vast majority of them. They'd fix it.
Their kidneys got better. Their brain got better. Their liver emptied out. They never thought of their liver once in their lifetime.
You know how many tens of thousands of patients I... liver, what's that? Is that something I eat? You know, liver.
I don't like liver. No, no, I'm talking about your liver. Oh, a lot of things happen in that little liver of yours. It's not that little, by the way.
We're going to fix it. We're going to empty it. And there's only one way to empty it, and that's for you to quit eating those crappy carbs and sugars and the high fructose corn syrup that's in cereal and in everything else. I don't want you drinking any more juice.
Do you hear me? Ever. Don't have it. You don't need it.
You weren't meant to. You were meant to drink water. I don't like water, Dr. Martin.
You will thank me later. You're going to end up liking it. I promise you. And then I give them the big bonus.
I said, because you're such a good person and you're listening, Linda, you can have coffee too, because coffee will help to empty your liver. It will. Yeah, you like coffee. I love coffee.
I talked to a guy yesterday. Here's what I asked him. You like coffee? He said, no.
I said, that sucks. I said, you don't? No. And he thought it wasn't good for him.
I said, it's the real vitamin C. You need it. What do you mean you don't like coffee? But guys, this is when I see a study like this, coming out of India, by the way, where, what is it, 50% of their population are diabetic.
I mean, their genetics don't want them eating carbs and guess what they live by? They live on the planet. They live on the planet. They live on the planet.
They're eating carbs and guess what they live on? Carbs. Their genetics tell them, don't eat that. Egyptians.
50% of the population are diabetic. I used to tell my Egyptian patients, you and carbs don't get along, you know. You don't get along with carbohydrates. So why are you living on them?
Quit living on them. That's not fuel for you. By the way, you're not fuel for anyone. If you never had another carb in your life, your body wouldn't miss it one iota.
You might like it, but your body don't need it. Oh, Dr. Martin, you need glucose. No.
You can eat steak. And if your body needs glucose, it'll turn steak into sugar. You know, I always use the illustration of the wood stove. You want paper and twigs to heat your house in a wood stove or do you want logs?
What's the better fuel? Okay. I had one, two, three, four more studies I wanted to do, but I couldn't get past the first one. Okay, guys.
Friday is what? Q&A. Send your questions in. Info at MartinClinic.com.
Okay? You got any question, send it in there. If you put it on the scroll, eh, good chance I ain't seen it. Especially during the program.
I'm not going to see it. Okay, guys. We love you dearly and sincerely. Talk to you soon.
