TRANSCRIPT OF TODAY'S EPISODE

Announcer:  You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.

Dr. Martin:  Well, good morning, everyone. And once again, welcome to another live this morning. Nice to have you on live. It really is.

We know and fully understand that not everybody can come on live in the morning, so beautifully. We turned this into a podcast. The Doctor is In, you can get it on your favorite device, your smart device. Okay, guys, let me go back, if you don't mind.

I'm going to go back to the thyroid a bit because we did a show yesterday on why your thyroid may not be working. Okay? And we really went into some detail on reasons that your thyroid would not be working. My clinical experience, okay, and I shared that with you yesterday.

Thyroid, very complicated organ, okay? Little butterfly organ, right around here there, okay? It ain't big, but it's powerful. And when it's not working, no fun under the sun.

And I quoted a woman who came to my office, this is years ago. She said, my metabolism isn't slow, doc. It's in a coma. And of course, I died laughing with her, not at her.

Okay? I was laughing with her. So what I saw in the office, guys, I don't want to exaggerate, but thousands and thousands of thyroid, so-called thyroid patients. And we went into some detail yesterday talking about the thyroid is like a puppet.

It's got a lot of strings attached. And I actually brought out my pyramid and I flunked art, guys, but I drew the pyramid to show you the attachments that the thyroid has to the ovaries, in men to the testes. The adrenals play a big, big, big factor in the thyroid big time. Because when your stress hormone is high cortisol, look, it should be a little bit higher in the morning.

But I'm talking about wired and tired, that kind of cortisol. You're wired, but tired. That drains the living life out of your thyroid gland because cortisol robs progesterone. When it's high over an extended period of time, it robs progesterone.

What does that do? Well, now estrogen becomes dominant. And when that happens, things happen in the liver too, and you can't convert T4 to T3. So let's just back up just a bit.

T4 is the raw material for your thyroid. It's raw material, T4. And it needs to be converted for your thyroid to use it to T3. I should have brought out a teaspoon because at the end of the day, your thyroid in a whole year, in a whole year, will use less than a teaspoon of T3, in a whole year.

But it's very finicky to make T3. Everything's got to be culpice-etic, if I can use that word. Everything needs to be in harmony in that pyramid for the thyroid to work properly. And a lot of women, they just look sideways at food and they gain weight.

And unfortunately, guys, and I mean this, unfortunately, medicine, they're not good at the thyroid. They're really not. Even endocrinologists, oftentimes, and look, I hate to be negative, but I've got to be just for a minute. They're not good at the thyroid because they isolate the thyroid.

They isolate it. They don't see the big picture. They don't see the puppet and its strings attached. And so they rely on blood work.

They rely on it. They get hijacked. You know what I've said over the years? Medicine has been hijacked by the pharmaceutical companies, one, and hijacked by the labs.

And guys, I'm not against labs. You know that. I love lab work. I do.

I really do. I teach you that. I want you to get blood work done. I want to look at blood work.

But, and this is a big but, okay? This is a big but. Symptoms, how you're feeling trumps, trumps blood work. You have to know that.

And again, unfortunately, medicine, they've been hijacked about that. And even endocrinologists, they get hijacked because, oh, your blood work, well, and right away, if they see your blood works off, they want to put you on medication. And for years, I saw this because I was never, by the way, the first guy that a patient saw.

Okay? I wasn't the first on the list. I usually did the cleanup. I was the closer. You know, in baseball, the last guy to come in is the closer. The last pitcher, he's the closer.

Well, I was sort of the closer because they come to me and they weren't well, and they heard about me. And then they would come to my office.

Some traveled all over the world to get there. And you know what? I looked at their lab work 100%. But I understood that pyramid.

I made up that pyramid, by the way. But I did a lot of studying. I did a lot of training. I've told you about my training in hormones with one of the best in the world, Dr.

Fishman, who passed away in 2022, taught at Nova Medical School in Florida. And I got underneath his teaching personal. He took a liking to me because I was all ears. And he was a genius.

He was the originator of bioidentical hormones. He had a PhD in pharmacology. He was a smart cookie. Okay?

I did a lot of training under him. And I've done a lot of studying on this. And of course, all the time I was seeing patients. So you know what?

You add all that up and okay. I mean, I looked at things differently. And of course, my PhD, guys, you know this, is in nutrition, clinical nutrition. So I was a food guy.

Does food have a big effect on the thyroid? You bet you bet your boots it does. Not everything, but it's huge. And that component, by the way, that component, food and the thyroid, guess what?

Almost nobody knows about that. You talk to a doctor about what has the food got to do with thyroid? They don't know because they don't study food. They don't study nutrition.

They don't get that in medical school. They leave that to the dietitians. And I'm sorry, a dietitian, if you ask any dietitian, I bet just about, I'm sure there's exceptions. What do I do?

My thyroid's not working properly. What do you recommend I eat? And their motto is everything in moderation, except red meat. Don't even eat that.

Live on the plant kingdom. No. Okay. So there was yesterday.

Okay. And we showed the pyramid. We showed insulin, how important that is to the thyroid. We showed even the liver.

What the heck does the liver have to do with your thyroid? Everything. Very important string. Because your liver, that's where the vast majority of T4, the raw material, is converted to T3, which your thyroid needs to function properly.

Okay. You've got raw material, but it's converted in your liver. But what if your liver is all gummed up like the Costco parking lot and it's full of fat? Well, guess what?

You're not converting T4 to T3 properly. And your thyroid needs T3 to operate properly. So when the liver is gummed up, you're not converting T4 to T3. And I talked about this yesterday.

When your liver is gummed up, you're not even making HDL cholesterol and LDL cholesterol. Oh, cholesterol, we got to get it down. No, no, you got to get it up. Why?

Because they're FedEx, they're Amazon, they're US Postal Service, Canada Post. Name the trucks on the road. They deliver your hormones. Comes out of your liver.

But when your liver is packed up with fat because you're a carbaholic, my name is Tony and I'm a carbaholic. Okay. Not anymore. But you know what I'm saying, guys?

So you see the liver is so important. Guys, you want to do a cleanse? Well, quit eating crappy carbs and don't live on the plant kingdom. And quit drinking juice and drinking coffee with the high fructose corn syrup.

Remember, high fructose corn syrup is already liquid. It's just been hardened. It's a liquid. It goes to your liver.

It jams the liver up. Now your thyroid can't get T4 to T3 properly. Plus, you can't even transport the hormones. You need leadies.

That's when you get horror hormones. The liver has a lot to do with that. I'm standing up for your liver. Dr.

Martin, I stand up for your liver. Nobody else will. But I do. I know the importance of that liver of yours.

Okay. Oh, I'm getting excited again. But guys, this is important. That thyroid gland is important.

Okay. It is very important. Now, yesterday, I mentioned this. I want to go a little bit deeper just for a minute.

Okay. One, I talked about if you're not eating animal protein, if someone tells you not to eat animal protein, steak, eggs, bacon, cheese, butter, cream, run, forest, run. They do not know what they're talking about. I saw yesterday on the scroll after I was done, I saw it.

Well, I eat a plant-based diet. I was told it was good for me. You were told wrong. You were lied to.

And almost any guru, I know, and I love them, colleagues, gurus, they drink the Kool-Aid of the plant religion because that's what it is. It's a religion. It's a plant religion because they believe deep down inside that fruits and vegetables are more important on the food chain than animal protein. They've been lied to and they accept it as the gospel truth.

And it ain't true. It's wrong. And I double down on that, and I triple down on that, and I quadruple down on that. Because your thyroid, I talked to you about this yesterday, needs tyrosine.

It's an amino acid. It won't work properly without it. And you get that when you eat steak and eggs and dairy, the good dairy. I hate to say it, there's bad dairy out there.

Don't go drink milk unless you've got a cow in the backyard. You don't need milk. And you know what? I get a migraine when I see someone drinking soy milk.

I get a migraine. What are you doing that for? You're just elevating your estrogen. Now that's not soy isoflavol.

That's different. That's an extract. Don't get in the weeds. Don't get in the weeds.

Okay, so what did we emphasize yesterday? We emphasized that you needed animal protein for your thyroid to work properly. You need animal protein. Okay, what about my cholesterol?

Well, what about it? You need it. Get it up. What you've got to hammer down is your triglycerides.

Why do you have to hammer triglycerides down? Because that means you've got fatty liver. You've got fat in your liver when your triglycerides are high. And if you've got fat in your liver, it's because you're a carbaholic.

Okay, now I'm going to give you even more. Okay, do you know that without vitamin A, your thyroid won't work properly? Okay, this I heard, I don't know, 2012 or whatever, there was a study done on vitamin A in the thyroid. Okay, and again, you know what happens with vitamin A?

You need vitamin A, you need tyrosine, and you need vitamin A to convert. It's part of the process of converting T4 to T3. Okay, vitamin A. Now what do I want you to do about vitamin A?

Do I want you to take a supplement of it? No, not necessarily. I want you to eat it. How do you get vitamin A?

Steak, cod liver oil, fish, you get vitamin A. And you know, through COVID, when I had a migraine for, I don't know, how long did COVID last, two or three years? I had a migraine the whole time, because I watched the world go stupid. It went stupid, because it never talked about taking care of your immune system.

They got us out of the sun. They didn't want us to go outside. They put a stupid mask on us. I had a migraine.

I said, yeah, I want you to wear a mask. What? Dr. Martin, you want me to wear a mask?

Yeah, the invisible one. What? Vitamin A. It's an invisible mask.

When you eat steak, you're wearing an invisible mask. It covers your eyes, covers your nose, covers your mouth. That's the kind of mask you want to wear, the invisible mask, not the stupid one they told us to wear. That doesn't work.

It doesn't work. The first day of medical school, they teach you that. They teach you that. A virus?

What are you doing? A mask? Well, doctors wear masks when they're doing surgery. Yeah, but they don't want to spit on you on an open wound.

They don't want to spit on it. Of course they don't want to do that. Guys, I had a migraine, a migraine. Crazy, because I was saying, well, what about your invisible mask, the vitamin A?

Each day it'll cover your—oh, you wear a mask over your nose and mouth. That is the worst stupid thing I ever heard in my life, because people—well, I'm rubbing my eyes, okay? Right now I'm doing it. Well, you can't wear a mask over your eyes.

The virus is going right there. I still see people wearing masks today. I got a migraine. I go to the grocery store, and I see people wearing a mask.

Hello? Hello? And they're frail, always. They look like Casper the Ghost, and they got a mask on.

I'm digressing, but I'm—ooh, it gets silly. I was on the beach in Florida when they closed the world down. I happened to be on the beach in Florida. They closed the beaches in Florida, and I was John the Baptist.

Open the beaches. Send everybody down to Florida. Put them on a plane. Let us sit in the sun.

It's the best thing you can do for the virus. I was John the Baptist. They weren't listening. They closed the world down.

That's all about vitamin A. I gotta stop, because I'm getting too excited. Okay, now let me bring you back, okay? You need vitamin A for your thyroid.

And do you guys know me? Do I talk about supplementing vitamin A? You can. I want you to eat it.

It's available in food. Women, generally, they don't eat hamburger or steak. They like their chicken and talent, and they wonder why their thyroid's not working for them. Well, you're not getting vitamin A.

You get a little bit in chicken, I guess. Not much. And by the way, there's a synergistic—you know what that means, right? Work together.

Synergistic. There's a synergistic effect of vitamin A and vitamin D. The sun. And when you can't get the sun, you take a supplement, a vitamin D, and listen for your thyroid.

Your thyroid needs vitamin D. Your thyroid is a little solar panel. It's got antennas looking for the sun. Did you know that?

Vitamin D works synergistically with vitamin A for your thyroid to work properly. And there's a third one called vitamin K2. How do you get vitamin K2? I'm listening.

How do you get vitamin K2? Close your books. Tell me. How do you get vitamin K2?

Okay. Come on. I want to know how you get vitamin K2. Scroll, guys.

I don't want to wait too long. You know this. How do you get vitamin K2? My scroll's not moving, so I don't know.

Anyway, you guys know the answer, but can I tell you? Eggs, meat, and cheese. Lee's steak. Georgie's cheese.

I love you guys. Gary the Sun. Cheryl, eggs, meat, and cheese. Laurie's steak.

Yep, yep, yep, yep, yep. That's how you get vitamin K2. It's steak. Lucille, Wanda.

You guys are too stinkin' smart. Can I ever fool you? Kevin's steak. Teresa, cheese and eggs.

And steak. Vitamin K2. God put vitamin K2 in with calcium so that that calcium will get into your bones and your teeth. But vitamin K2, listen to what I'm going to say, guys, works synergistically with vitamin D and vitamin A to make your thyroid hormones T3.

Yep, yep. Okay. Why did I get so excited? You know what?

I do not live in the past. I love the past. And when you go backwards, learn lessons. You're looking in the rear view mirror.

Not a bad thing. Don't live there. Look forward. You made mistakes back there, well, learn from them.

And I look backwards on this crazy world and what we did. And I don't know. I know my audience learn. I don't know about the rest of the world.

They close us down so fast they make your head spin. That's migraine territory for me, if you know what I mean.

Okay. What's tomorrow? Q&A. Q&A. Okay. Q&A. Tomorrow.

What do we want? We want you to send your questions to info at martinclinic.com. Info at martinclinic.com.

Okay. Send them in there. I will get them. And we will have our Q&A Friday, sometimes Q&A Monday.

It's amazing to me that the last two Fridays we got done with the questions. That's all right. That's all right. But don't be shy, guys.

You got questions? I can handle it. I used to do it live on radio. Okay.

We didn't even scream the callers. We should have sometimes. Not because I didn't know the answer, mainly because some people they went on and on and on and on and on. They took up the whole show.

Okay. Guys, we love you. Don't be a fool.
