Announcer:Β You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.
Dr. Martin:Β Well, good morning, everyone. And once again, welcome to another live this morning. And I hope you're having a great start to your day. We appreciate you guys coming on as you get your notifications here.
Thank you for joining us. I hope you've had your vitamin C, the real one. Okay, let's get going, guys. We got a lot of questions to get through today.
Q&A Friday. Okay, let's get to the questions here. Craig, I have read that PV extract with L-citrulline can help with blood pressure. Maybe I have no experience with it.
I read, Craig, what do you read? I'll tell you what I know. Okay, I'll tell you what I know. Not what I think, what I know.
You combine that or compare it, I mean, to pine bark extract. That L-citrulline, people combine it with a lot of times L-arginine, and those are amino acids. I'll tell you my experience, clinical experience, for blood pressure, for example, for blood flow. Because anytime you think of pine bark, when you think of pine bark, when you think of Navitol, you might know it by that name.
Think blood flow, because that's what it does the most. It increases your blood flow, circulation, brain, blood pressure. In my opinion, nothing better. And I like combined things.
So if you have trouble with blood pressure, I like combining top of the line. In my opinion, my clinical experience is pine bark extract because blood flow, it elevates nitric oxide like nothing else. Vitamin D does that too. Vitamin D is very good for nitric oxide.
Just getting in the sun will help your blood pressure. I'm not kidding you. But in terms of supplements, pine bark extract is the best. I like high DHA too.
I find that helps in combination with pine bark extract. You can take it on its own or combine the two. I don't know about L-citrulline other than I read about it. I know what it does.
I know what L-citrulline is. I know what L-arginine is. I just found for me, clinically, I find pine bark better. That's all I'm saying to you, Christ.
If you find it helpful, hey, go for it. You want to use L-citrulline with pine bark extract? Got no problem with that. Now, Annie, we've heard that chlorine dioxide is good to kill bacteria for Lyme disease.
I'd be careful with that. To be honest, I've never heard of that, to kill bacteria. Here's what medicine does, obviously. They give you an antibiotic for Lyme because it's a tip.
A lot of times, if you can get it early enough, that's how they treat it with an antibiotic. I can't ever say that I've ever read, and I've been around a long time, of chlorine dioxide. I'd be careful. That's an industrial, anything that I know about it, it's an industrial cleaner, chlorine dioxide.
Again, I just got to be honest with you, Annie, I'd be very careful with that because I've never seen that ever before for a treatment for Lyme. Now, maybe it's online somewhere and I haven't seen it, but I treated thousands of patients over the years with Lyme disease. I had my protocol for Lyme's disease, and it included oil of oregano.
It included probiotics. Depending on what we saw, they always had leaky gut. I went after not only the tick, but the protocol was to build the immune system for the body to help fight the disease itself, Lyme disease. I don't know about chlorine.
Maybe someone else has heard of it. I'd never heard of that before. Like I said, I'd be very careful because I know what chlorine dioxide is. I just never heard of that with Lyme's disease.
Maybe there's a doctor out there that's done that and treated it. I don't know. I'm pleading the fifth because I don't know. Miquela, her mom is in her seventies, ended up at the ER on Tuesday.
They found so many blood clots. No fun. Now she's going to be on a blood thinner the rest of her life. She'll be on plavix or she'll be on another medication to thinner blood, 100%.
So what's the question? Yeah, she was given an injection of a blood thinner. But then she'll be on one. Look, with blood clots, I'm not going to talk about the blood thinner.
And there's major side effects to that. But your mom's going to have no choice with that. If she's got blood clots, she's going to be put on a blood thinner. And that's just the way it's going to be.
They're injecting it right now. It will become a medication the rest of her life. Okay. Because once you're susceptible to those blood clots, they can kill you.
Okay. They can kill you. So you need to be on a blood thinner. What I like with a blood thinner for me, and I had a lot of patients, obviously, that were on blood thinners.
I like Navitol because Pine Bart, what it does, okay, we know it opens up the blood vessels, blood flow. That's good for anti-clotting. Water, anti-clotting. A lot of people, they don't realize how important the importance of water is to thin the blood naturally.
I'm not saying your mother was dehydrated. She might've been. Circulatory issues. You get older.
You're much more susceptible to things. Right? So, and they'll tell you not to do this because they don't want you on omega-3, the DHA, with a blood thinner. I never heard stuff so stupid in my life sometimes.
I just got to tell you, it doesn't work like that. It doesn't thin your blood. You know how omega-3, the DHA works? It lubricates your blood vessel.
That's anti-clotting. They should realize that that's something they should give. If doctors knew what I knew, they'd put them on high DHA and Navitol for your mom. Okay.
That was Michaela. Darla. I'm a type 2 diabetic. Yeah, you and millions of others.
Okay, she's done the reset. She only eats twice in a day. You feel good? You feel good?
I'm not worried about that. Okay. I have added some exercise. Good for you.
What are optimal blood sugar numbers? Look, I'm more of an average guy. You can take your blood sugars every couple of hours if you want. You're a diabetic.
You probably have the monitoring or you have. You can do a finger prick or whatever you do to monitor your blood. You know what? I don't care so much.
I really don't care that much about your blood sugars every five minutes testing. I'm more of an A1C guy. Look at your average. Where are you at?
That averages out your blood sugar over two or three months. But let me say something, Darla, how are you feeling? You're feeling good? You're eating twice a day?
You're eating the right foods? You got a major on protein and fat, not carbs. Because if you're a diabetic, you have an allergy to carbs. You have an allergy.
You and carbs don't get along. So, yeah, look, she's seen big improvements and good for you, Darla. You're on the right path, my dear. Keep going.
Linda, is it necessary to get a mammogram done before going on bioidentical hormone treatment? No, I don't necessarily like mammograms that much. Okay? To be honest with you, I'm not your doctor, and therefore I can't tell you what to do.
I can make generalized recommendations. I'm not a big fan of mammograms, I think. And I've done podcasts over a period of time, different ones, where mammograms, lots and lots and lots of radiation, and they really come up with a lot of false positives. So, I mean, look, you can't do a bioidentical without being under a doctor's supervision, right?
So, are they recommending a mammogram? I almost would tell you to run. Run, Forrest, run. Anyway, I can't tell you not to take a mammogram.
I just can't. Do I like them? Not that much. There's a lot of question marks now about mammograms, lots of question marks.
You know, people are smarter today. We got so much more information than we used to have, and people are making choices. And you know, because, you're going to have a mammogram, you haven't had a mammogram in a year or two, every two years, you got to have mammograms. I don't buy that.
Okay. That was Linda and Mary Ann's asking the question. She had a bad bout of diverticulitis. She wants me to give her confidence to eat.
Look, Mary Ann, stick your thumb up. Got your thumb up? What happens there? What does that mean?
Why do I want you to stick your thumb up? Because you got a different fingerprint than everyone else on the planet. Mary Ann, you're unique. My wife will not let me say the word weird anymore.
I can't say you're weird. I'm going to say you're unique. Okay. What do I mean by that?
Well, when you eat EMC, eggs, meat and cheese, that is not hard on your gut. People who get diverticulosis, okay, pouches, are people that eat a lot of salad. They're people that eat a lot of fiber. They have bulky stool, as if that's going to win them a prize.
That's just a fact now. Now, you might be an exception, Mary Ann. One thing about medicine, always exception. Okay.
Okay. Because I know what doctors, I know what they do, I know what they say. They're going to tell you, don't eat red meat, don't eat steak, because you got diverticulosis. It was just the opposite.
I used to get people with diverticulosis, and 99% of them, they were fiber crazy. They loved their salad, and they hardly ate meat, or maybe a little chicken. That's the way it is. So Mary Ann, I don't know what to tell you.
You might be a rare breed. That's the case. You need to make an adjustment for you, because I speak in generalities. Eggs, meat and cheese.
You know what? People found they were 100 times better. Of course, I put them on probiotics. I put them on digestive enzymes.
I had them on the gutties with mucilages. I had them on bone broth. I did all of it for diverticulosis. Okay.
That was Mary Ann. Danielle, I am waking up multiple times per night to urinate. Well, Danielle, a couple of things. I'm assuming, yes, you're Daniel, not Danielle.
So Daniel, prostate, it's becoming inflamed. And you want to lower that inflammation in the prostate. Now, if you live in the United States, you get on our prostate formula. If you live in Canada, okay, it's not there yet.
I like for circulation because prostate is circulation. It gets inflamed. It'll make you to get up frequently at night. I like Navitol and curcumin, the two together.
I combine there. Very anti-inflammatory and increases blood flow to the prostate. Once you're drinking water at night and that kind of thing, you've got to try and help yourself every way you can, Danielle, because no fun when you're getting up that many times at night. And I find too, remember what makes the prostate grow.
Start eating flax seeds. It lowers the estrogen. Yeah, Danielle, estrogen in men. At the age of 50, a lot of men have more estrogen than their wives.
Okay. Than their wives. Estrogen. Okay.
And dim it out. You dim that estrogen out. Get your testosterone up. That'll help.
Sun, steak and steel. That'll get your testosterone up. Jose, how are you? I'm successfully going through the metabolic reset and my menopause hot flashes have completely disappeared.
Yep. I've seen that happen. I'm tracking my potassium. It is slightly low.
I want to increase it without eating more spinach. What are your favorite low carb keto friendly foods recommendation to boost potassium? Get an electrolyte with higher potassium. I'd say put it right in your water rather than I'm trying to think like, you know, what's got the best amount of potassium is bacon.
Very high in potassium. Better than eating a banana or an avocado. That's what I would say, Jose. Cherub.
You're an angel. How are you? I had a viral ear infection earlier this year, treated with antibiotics, lost most of her hearing. That happened to me as a kid.
I lost a lot of hearing in my right ear, never recovered from it. Okay. That was me as a kid. My left ear is fantastic.
Okay. But it happened to me. Nerve damage from fluid. She recommends hearing aids.
Well, look, I mean, I'm not against that if you need them. Secondly, I mean, you're asking about supplements. Try it. One month.
See if this helps. Okay. Because I did help patients with this. Combining cursitin with Navitol.
Here I go with Navitol again, but blood flow here and cursitin, antihistamine, natural. I love the combination of the two. Some people found, okay, wasn't every time, of course, that their hearing got better with those two things. Blood flow.
Good for your brain. Good for the middle ear. Try it and see. But you might need the hearing aids.
I don't know. But you need to be hearing. And they're so small today. Like the hearing aids.
Like you can hardly tell if people got them on compared to what it used to be. Right? Anywho. Hey guys, I think we're going to get this done today.
Yep, we are. Can you believe it? Denise, I heard Dr. Martin say a lot about curcumin.
I have not heard lately about what the benefits are. Well, curcumin, okay, it's got a lot of benefits. I like it. It's the extract of turmeric.
The problem with turmeric is you don't absorb it very well. Still good for you. Turmeric is a spice. It's good for you.
The yellow spice. Curcumin is the extract of that. Much more bioavailable, especially when it's combined with black pepper. The bioavailable the bioavailability goes way up.
I love curcumin. I take it every day, guys. The studies on curcumin are incredible, especially, I'll give you a few of them. Very, very, very anti-cancer.
Very, very, very anti-inflammatory. Very good for your joint. Okay? Curcumin.
Very good for your liver. It's very good for it. Curcumin is one of the world's best anti-inflammatory. So do I like it?
Nope, I love it. I love curcumin. Okay? It is so good for you.
And again, you should see the studies on cancer and curcumin. Okay? Liver cancer, bowel cancer, brain cancer. Very good for your brain, guys, because it's anti-inflammatory.
And again, I love combinations. You guys know that. I love it with Navitol. I love it with high DHA.
Okay? Let's see. I take mine with good virgin cold pressed olive oil. Hey, I got no problem with that.
That's a good idea. Polyphenols help with the absorption. Is that better or not? I don't know if polyphenols actually help with the absorption of it.
Have it with bacon. It's got oleic acid, just like olive oil does. Okay? I love olive oil, by the way.
Okay? Guys, don't come after me, because I like olive oil very much. A cold pressed organic olive oil, because there's so many cheap fakes out there, apparently, with olive oil. It's too bad, but I like it.
Yeah, arthritis. Well, Denise, absolutely. Very anti-inflammatory. Okay.
I got one more. Melissa. Here's the question, Melissa. Dr.
Martin, what if your thoughts on someone can be taking too many supplements? Well, that's a good question. I'm trying to think how to answer this. I'd rather you take more than less.
You know, doctors, oh, your urine. I heard this 50 years ago. Your urine is expensive, meaning you're peeing it all out. And you know where they got that from?
With B vitamin. Well, look at your yellow urine. You're just peeing it out, all those B vitamins. They didn't even know what they were talking about, and they still don't.
The amount of medical dogs that know anything about supplements, I can almost count them on one hand. I'm being facetious a little bit, but they don't know anything. They've never taken a course. I took 2,000 hours of nutrition and supplements, and add another 10,000 hours of experience or more.
I know what's wrong with you. You take too many supplements, says a doctor that doesn't know what they're talking about. But guys, listen, you know me, so let's put the foundations first. I want you to eat right.
That's your foundation. That's your foundation. If you are not eating right, you can't out supplement a bad diet. Who said that?
Me. For the last 40 more years. Can't out supplement a bad diet. So I set up my foundation with food.
EMC is the best. Eggs, meat, and cheese. You want to have some fruits and vegetables? Go for it.
I got no problem. I just don't want you to live on fruits and vegetables. You're not meant to. Now, supplements.
Do I shy away from this? Not even for an instant. I love supplements. I take them every day.
I know what they do. I can prove it. I proved it to patients. When they were low in omega-3, we could see it on a blood test, and then I gave them omega-3 DHA, and their omega-3 levels went up in their bloodstream.
Oh yeah, yeah. Vitamin D? They were low. Give them vitamin D with K2, and guess what?
Their vitamin D levels went up. B12. Oh, low. What would I do?
Here's B12. Take it sublingually. It's the best way to get it. Take it every day until I tell you not to.
When are you going to tell me not to, doc? Never. Let's talk. Because I want to optimize your B12.
Probiotics. You know me. Have I been consistent? Every day, I take probiotics.
I take fine bark. Every day. Guys, I'm investing. You might think, well, that's too many supplements.
You're wasting your money. I don't look at it like that. I look at it like that. I'm investing.
A lot of people invest in the stock market. A lot of people invest in bitcoin. A lot of people invest their money. Good for them.
What if you don't get to spend it? I invest in my health. Sun, steak, steel, sleep. I invest in a supplement, another S.
You know my go-to five. I take high DHA every day. I want to protect my brain up here, guys. I never want to lose my memory.
So that's an investment. That's the way I look at it. Listen, I understand. I saw what?
100,000 patient visits. I don't know. Maybe not that many. Well, I was so consistent.
I said, look, don't come here for supplements if you're not eating good. Okay? If you're not eating good, don't think you can out supplement a bad diet. I've said this for 50 years, guys.
I'm a food guy. Food first. Clean up your diet. And supplements, supplement, supplement.
That's what it means. Supplement your diet. Because you're just never going to eat enough yogurt to get the probiotics that I recommend. You just won't.
And guys, I am consistent about that. Consistent, consistent, consistent. Okay? You're a diabetic.
I'm not going to worry about food. I know a lot of diabetics don't worry about what they eat. That gives me a migraine. Oh, doc, I'm a diabetic.
Can I take some supplements? Well, let's start with your diet. You have an allergy to par. What are we going to do about that?
Okay. I got all the questions, I think, answered. Okay? Isn't that great?
Okay, guys. We love you guys. Dearly, sincerely, and every other way. Okay?
We'll talk to you soon.Β
