Announcer:Β You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.
Dr. Martin:Β Well, good morning, guys. Nice to be on with you. Thank you for coming on live. We appreciate it. The Doctor is In. Facebook Live and podcast. Okay, guys. Merci beaucoup.
Okay. This just came out of the Journal of Nutrition, okay, one of my resources. And it's a meta-analysis looking at, well, there's two studies that came out, one on probiotics. Okay.
This, guys, would not be news to my audience that people do a lot better when they take probiotics with antibiotics in post-operative infection. They were looking at, you know, you just come out of the hospital or you're in the hospital. They should be giving you probiotics. Everybody and their dog that goes into the hospital for any procedure should be given probiotics.
And one of the reasons is the most dangerous place in the universe is the hospital. When it comes to super bugs, doctors know that and we should know it. And I've written that in books making that statement. The most dangerous place is not Iran right now or Afghanistan.
The most dangerous place is your local hospital because of super bugs. Now, insert a patient in there. Never mind you just visiting there. Send in a patient whose immune system is already down.
They're unwell. I mean, you're not going to the hospital because you're feeling good, right? And generally, you know, it becomes a perfect storm. And then you got these super bugs, especially if you've been operated on.
Like C difficile. Okay. Very difficult. That's what it means.
Because it's resistant to antibiotics big time. And then they got to use more powerful antibiotics. And look, I understand it. But what medicine doesn't get the memo on?
They really don't. I mean, some doctors do. I used to have a gastroenterologist that used to send me patients, go see Dr. Martin.
You know, I just about passed out when the first one came in. Oh, Dr. So-and-so sent me in here to take care of my gut. Okay.
You know, sometimes I got shocked in clinic. Okay, because you've got doctors that thought outside of the box. And I really appreciated that. You could communicate with them.
They didn't think I was a quack. Some of them. Okay, most did. Just because they're not trained.
And I understand that too. But guys, listen, I've been talking about probiotics for years and years and years. Like remember before this, I had a radio show for 20 years. There wasn't a day go by just about, I'm sure, that I didn't talk about probiotics.
The more they research them, the more they study them. Yeah, they work. And when you've taken antibiotics, you carpet bomb your microbiome. I've written about that.
I've talked about that. And they wipe out. And there's antibiotics in the feed to animals. You're not getting away from it.
And especially if your immune system has been compromised, you really need probiotic. And they're showing. You know, just study them. They're showing.
Make a big difference after surgery in a hospital. To not get those superbugs. Plus, okay, here's another study on probiotics. You ought to be taking a probiotic with chemotherapy during cancer treatment and radiation therapy.
In spite of what you might think about those therapies, the research is being done and it shows, you know what, you do a lot better. You have a lot less side effects with the probiotics. Yeah. Hello.
Yes. And so guys, look, you know me on this. I think you trust me on this when I tell you, you can't out supplement a bad diet. You and I, we're on the same page on that.
We're on the same page. Diet is the most important thing. What you eat, the most important thing. But but there are certain supplements.
They just pass every test. And I used to tell people this, put them to the test. You'll thank me later. You got leaky gut.
You got yeast. You got fungus. You got maybe parasites. And when you got a hospital visit, you got superbugs.
And the antibiotics, they're out there to save your life. So they don't worry so much about the creation of superbugs. They know they do it. They know that these antibiotics now, these bugs are developing like a shield to them.
The dome shield to antibiotics and they become very resistant. That's a lot of people die from that secondary infection. And they're showing that probiotics really work. Okay.
And they really do. And I just put this out there because it's true. The more different strains of bacteria, good guys that are on your side, the better it is. Again, I've been talking about that for a long time.
Now look, do I like fermented foods? Yep, I do. Okay. Do I like yogurt?
Yeah, if it's got no sugar in it. I mean, any sugar added. Yogurt because it's dairy has a little bit of lactose in it. It's going to have some sugars into it naturally.
But that's not a big issue. Okay. As long as they're not adding sugar. So I don't mind yogurt, but you're never guys, let me just say it.
Here's a statement. You're never ever going to get, you're never going to get the broad spectrum, the amount of bacteria that you get when you're taking a broad spectrum probiotic. You're just not going to get 50 billion or whatever bacteria in a yogurt. It's not going to happen.
But I don't mind that stuff. I mean it. It's good. But I'm telling you, you need to replace that.
We live in a toxic soup. You and I, I don't care where you go, you can run, but you can't hide. You know, I used to have patients, kind of funny, you know, they'd sneak, they were going to the hospital. They knew they had to have surgery on their knee or hip or whatever.
And they would sneak their probiotics in with them. Okay. They're going to be in there for a few days or whatever. They're going to be in there for a few days or whatever.
They sneak in their probiotics because, you know, you can't take any supplement while you're in here. We don't know what you're taking. It's because they're ignorant guys. They're just ignorant.
There shouldn't be a doctor. There shouldn't be a nurse. There shouldn't be anyone working in a stinking hospital that isn't taking probiotics every day. They're in that environment.
Anyway, okay. So post-operative infection, prevention, probiotic, cancer treatment, they'll tell you not to take them. Again, I remember an oncologist that I worked with. Okay.
I'll make sure that all my patients take probiotics. I convinced them. The others, stop taking those. We don't know how it's going to side it.
You might get a side effect. It may, you know, interfere. They didn't know what they were talking about. They were carpet bombing the microbiome.
They were getting rid of all your good guys. Anyway, so two of them on probiotics and another study just on supplements. Okay. Again, in the Journal of Nutrition, dietary supplements, lower mortality risk in USA adults diagnosed with cancer.
Okay. Let me read it to you again. Taking dietary supplements lowers mortality risk in US adults diagnosed with cancer. Hello.
Hello. And let me throw this out here because I know I'm going to get asked this now. Okay, doc. Okay.
I'm going to give you a little bit of a protocol without a lot of detail. Like if I had a patient come to my office and I was seeing this the other day, if they had cancer, they would have been I was seeing this the other day. If they had cancer, I usually was one of the last stops. Doc, I've been diagnosed with cancer and I felt like telling every one of them, I wish I would have seen you before you had cancer to build up your immune system and all that.
But I didn't do that. They already had been diagnosed and they wanted to know if I can help. Well, I said, look, whether you take treatment or whether you don't, whatever that is, let's put that over here. Put this over here.
I would do all their biomarkers. I would look for deficiencies like I did with everybody else. And I said, okay, here's what you got to do. Let's fix those deficiencies.
And I'm going to give you a protocol generally for any cancer patient, almost without exception. Here's Dr. Martin's protocol. Numero uno, food.
We're going to start there. The foundation to build your immune system, the foundation to not feed cancer is food. And let's start there. Okay.
So they got a little bit of a lesson. You guys know all these things, but we go over them again. We stop sugar. I know you're going to hear you need a little bit of sugar.
You can't live without sugar. Cancer needs sugar. Let's all agree on that. Okay.
So these patients come in a lot of times. Sugar? What's that got to do with cancer? I said, it feeds it.
I had to teach an oncologist that one time. I referred a patient because I was very suspicious this patient had breast cancer. And I wanted to confirm it. And the oncologist confirmed it.
And then I guess the patient was talking to the oncologist and said, well, Dr. Martin told me to take vitamin D and we'll go over this in a minute and stop all sugar. And I give her credit. She called me.
Why did you say stop all sugar? I've never heard that before. I'm not kidding you guys. This is, I don't know, 15 years ago now.
Well, I said, doc, you have a PET scan, don't you? Yeah. I said, how does it work? I don't know.
It just shows cancer. It's a tremendous tool to diagnose cancer. Yeah. And I said, how does it work?
No. I said, well, I don't know. It's new. Okay.
Again, we're going back 15 years here. It's new. I said, well, they give you a cup of glucose. Or they inject glucose.
And wherever you have cancer, you light up like a Christmas tree in a PET scan. Oh yeah? I said, yeah. It doesn't work unless you give them glucose.
What does that tell you? And you're still today, guys. Still today. Doctors, generally.
People in the media, generally. The public, generally. They don't even know that. Or they don't want to know it.
I'm not kidding you. Well, you know what's more dangerous? Steak. Because steak will give you cancer.
As a matter of fact, that oncologist, that's what she thought. Because that's what she told me. I thought red meat caused cancer, not sugar. I said, no, red meat don't cause cancer.
Cancer hates, okay, cancer hates cancer. It hates cancer. Okay. Cancer hates steak.
It hates it. Okay. It can't feed on it. And steak feeds your good bacteria.
Better than any prebiotic that you think. Okay. I'm telling you. Your body thrives.
Your immune system gives you a high five when you eat steak. Cancer hates steak. Cancer hates eggs. Hates it.
It can't feed on it. It can't feed on it. Nothing to feed on. And good dairy, cancer hates it.
It hates butter. Okay. So just remember that. It's like, cancer is like a teenager or a child.
Feed me sugar. That's what I want. That's how cancer operates. Now there's other factors, but when it comes to food.
So first protocol at the Martin Clinic, when I was in practice, eliminate sugar. None, zero, nada. Read your labels. We don't want that.
I wouldn't even let them have any fruit for 30 days unless they had a few berries. You want to have some blueberries or strawberries? I got no problem with that. Put them in a Dr.
Martin's Perfect Smoothie. Cancer hates that too. Especially if you're going through treatment. Make yourself a smoothie.
At least you're going to get some nutrition. They're going to carpet bomb you. They're going to carpet bomb your microbiome. So that was me.
Okay. So I started with food. That was the foundation. We started there.
Eat steak, not sugar. Very simple. Not easy, but it's simple. And then we would talk about their deficiencies.
This is generally what I saw. Low levels of vitamin D. So we would supercharge that. Like you got to get your immune system on your side and you ain't going to do it unless you get your vitamin D levels up.
We talked about that all the time. And almost invariably with vitamin D, you know me, I do it all the time. I'm sorry. It's just who I am.
It's what I saw in my office. They were low in B12 too. They didn't optimize their B12. That was general.
So I said, you can get your vitamin D levels up. We talked about that all the time. So I said, you got to build that up. Your vitamin D, you're a human solar panel.
And instead of them giving you radiation, they should put you out in the sun because cancer hates the sun. It hates it. The sun super boosts your immune system and you can't get it while you got to take vitamin D. What can I tell you?
What can I tell you? And you got to take probiotics because I don't think, I'm trying to remember if I ever saw a patient that didn't have leaky gut when they had cancer. They had an overgrowth of fungal, a fungus infection that went systemic. It was everywhere in the body.
Nobody told them. Nobody said anything to them. But generally, this is what, and I said, look, I don't know if that's what's making up your tumor or whatever. I said, there's a lot of people that study that kind of thing.
They don't know what's making up a tumor. There's a lot of people that study that kind of thing and they believe that. And all I know is what I see. You got yeast coming out the wazoo.
We're going to get with it. So you see how I operated? Diet. And it went against the grain.
I knew that. I said, well, you came to see me. You came to see me. Have I talked to you about your options for treatment?
Yeah. Well, we discussed it. But whether you take the traditional treatment or not, here's what you got to do. Here's what you have to do, in my opinion.
I would often put them on, almost without exception, curcumin, because it is very anti-cancer. There's a lot of research on that. So I had some supplements like curcumin, DHA. Why?
Because it because it busts those tumors. DHA is a Trojan horse that comes in to kill tumors. There's not a lot of research on that. But there's some research on it.
And I'm telling you, high DHA, without exception, I recommend it to them. I said, well, look, I'll show you a study that I've seen and what it does to tumors in 14 days. Is it worth it? Yeah.
I said, you should be doing everything to put things on your side. Okay? Put things on your side. And then, you know, a lot of times they would ask me about other supplements.
You know, what about this and what about that? And sometimes I'd say, here's generally what I would say about that. I said, look, here's what I know. Here's what I've studied.
I'm not dismissing what other doctors are saying. Listen, if I thought that hanging you upside down from the office here in my office building would help your cancer, if hanging you upside down would help your cancer, I'd go up on the roof and hold your feet and hang you upside down. I'm here to help.
But when you're asking me about stuff that I wasn't, I'm not saying not familiar with, but I hadn't seen the research on it or I hadn't had the experience to see, you know, because sometimes now you're getting stuff on the internet on an anti-parasitic drug, right? Sort of became famous through COVID.
I'm not against that. I've looked at the research. Hey, I don't have personal experience with it, but there seems to be some, hey, give it a shot, man. I got no issue with that.
I really don't, because there's a lot of doctors, not a lot, but some that are saying, well, all cancer, not all, but a lot of the tumors are parasites. Some say parasites. Some say yeast. I'm a yeast guy.
It's because it's what I saw. I'm a fungus guy. That's me. I'm not saying parasites can't be in bowl.
But at the end of the day, and here's another one, by the way, that I always recommended to cancer patients, always, oil of oregano, anti-fungal, powerful antioxidant, but anti-fungal. They said, you know, underlying all of this, you got a fungus, you got a yeast, so let's get rid of that. Oil of oregano.
Don't feed the bears. No sugar. And if it's parasites, well, oil of oregano kills parasites too. So they got that little teaching in my office.
I can't go home with you. You got to do it. Ain't gonna be easy, especially cutting out all the sugar. Look at me.
Look at me. I said, and I mean it. You're in the fight of your life here, my friend. Okay.
Now look, you could, you know, and I had patients that went to Mexico, went to Timbuktu because they were desperate to try a treatment. Hey, I said, you want to do that? I got no problem. You want to do that?
You go for it. But here's what I know. That's what I would say. Here's what I know.
Okay. And look, there are no guarantees either. Like it depended on the cancer and how advanced it was and, you know, like I wasn't God. And did I see success?
Yep. Lots of it. People that fought cancer and they put everything on their side and they followed the protocol and, you know, they were going to their oncologists and they were, you know, communicating and seeing me in the office. Listen, you know, like I said, you know, some of the, some of the uncle, you can't do that.
You can't take that. You're taking a probiotic. You're not supposed to be. I used to tell my patients, shut up.
Like, don't tell them. Why do they have to know? And I wasn't doing it to protect me. I was doing it to protect them.
Like, why do you have to tell them everything? You know, some people go, well, Dr. Martin said I should be taking 10,000 I use of vitamin D every day. What do you think about that doc?
And the doc would pass out. You're going to die from vitamin D. Although no one ever has, but you'll be the first. I used to say, why do you have to tell them?
Don't tell them. I'm going to test your vitamin D levels. Okay. You don't have to tell them.
You're just waving a red flag in their face. They're not going to believe you anyway. Okay, guys, you know what Friday is, Q&A. So send your questions in.
