Announcer:Β  You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.

Dr. Martin:Β  Well, good morning, everyone. How are you? And once again, welcome to another live this morning. We sure appreciate each and everyone that can come on live.

We understand not everybody can, obviously, right? But we're happy to have you, if you can come on. And I just so enjoy our faithful audience. Now, let me read this headline to you.

Long-term brain study findings suggest that a healthier lifestyle could delay dementia by reducing several harmful brain changes at once. So, let me go to sciencedaily.com, where I do get a lot of studies. And it says here, nearly half of dementia cases may be linked to risk you can change. I tell you it's more than that.

But let's start with that. So, this study, long-term study, out of the Lund University, and this was dated August the 6th, so very recent study, but was long-term. They looked at factors that can cause dementia. And they were looking specifically at vascular dementia, okay?

Vascular, blood supply dementia. And they found that some of the causes of vascular dementia are pretty evident, okay? So, let me give a few of them that they mentioned here, high blood pressure. Having high blood pressure over a period of time can make you much more susceptible, not only to heart disease and dementia, because high blood pressure damages blood vessels.

And heart disease, obviously, they put it in here, heart disease, diabetes. Almost all heart disease comes from diabetes, by the way. Do you know me? I bring that back to what we're eating.

Yeah, high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, high lipids, like triglycerides. Guys, you know me. I'd much rather, when you get your blood work, you look at your triglycerides first. Doctors look at them last.

But you ought to look at them first, because triglycerides are not supposed to be high. You want your cholesterol to be high. Now, they're not going to tell you that, because they look at cholesterol being the boogeyman. It's not.

You get into trouble when you don't have enough cholesterol. Your brain is made up of cholesterol. Your brain is made up of fat. And I'm going to tell you, if you get vascular dementia, your brain shrinks.

It shrinks. Your brain shrinks like a prune. You need fat. And the geniuses.

You know, yesterday I was picking on the, you know, big food companies. The geniuses, you know, told us to eat fat free. Well, that was never smart. That was never smart.

But this is a good new study, guys, because what they're saying is, these things cause vascular dementia. And so the study is suggesting lifestyle changes. I like that. You know that.

We're not into detection here. Not that we don't detect. I love blood work. You guys know that.

Okay. But what are we really into? Prevention. We want to prevent dementia.

Alzheimer's. You get my age, guys. You think about that brain quite a bit. I talked to an old friend yesterday.

He said to me, Doc, I think I'm starting dementia. I notice that my brain doesn't function near as it should. I said, you mean you take out your senior card several times a day? No, but he's noticed changes.

You know, because when you talked about dementia, okay, before, almost invariably, like we've been talking about this for a long time, but when the medicine talks about dementia, they always talked about these tau, T-A-U proteins, because they had medications to lower them. And you know what those meds have done to prevent or lower dementia, Alzheimer's?

Nothing. If there's ever been an area of colossal failure in medicine, it's their treatment and their so-called prevention of Alzheimer's. It doesn't work. And again, they were looking for love in all the wrong places.

Because we found out, you know, the summer of 2022, guys, I talk about this that summer so much, because mental health, including Alzheimer's, was turned on its head. Because it wasn't tau protein. It wasn't that at all. They said it's more of an energy problem in the brain.

Uh-huh. Uh-huh. Yes. Mitochondria, battery packs.

And guys, there's nothing that affects your battery packs in your brain more than the food you eat. And they don't talk about food at all in here. Okay? They just talk about, for example, lowering blood pressure.

But you guys know, and we know together, high blood pressure almost invariably is caused by consuming too much sugar. Now smoking, of course, guys. But I always use the example that the vast majority of people have got the memo about smoking. The vast majority.

Not everybody. Okay? But they should have got the memo, you know what, smoking is no good for you. There's no one anymore on the planet that would argue that smoking is good for you.

Okay? If there is, I don't know who they are. Okay? We all agree that smoking is bad.

Okay? So let's separate that one over here for a minute. Okay? We all agree.

Get rid of smoke. If you're a smoker, stop. Okay. But guys, we've got that memo since the 1980s.

The world don't smoke near as much. Well, especially here in North America compared to what it used to. I grew up, my dad smoked, my mom smoked, my older brother smoked, everybody smoked. It was just life.

I remember playing hockey in a packed arena. And you could hardly see the ice surface. Everybody in the arena was smoking. And that was 1969, maybe.

You know, we lived in it. All my friends pretty well smoked. Not all of them, but most of them. I got sort of cured of the habit.

And I never really liked smoking, you know? So I was thankful about that. So I never had to, you know, I never really had to kick a habit. But guys, so we got the memo on smoking.

Okay. So let's put this over here. And smoking is not good because it damages your blood vessels. And we're talking about vascular dementia.

So smoking, put over here. We're all in agreement. But they put high blood pressure here, but they don't tell you what causes high blood pressure. Food.

Smoking can, because it damages your blood vessels. But the biggest factor in high blood pressure, the biggest factor, is your kidneys. And the kidneys, it's all about circulation. And sugar destroys blood vessels.

Your body knows that. You guys know that. The world out there, they forget diabetes, even though it's mentioned here. But they forget about it because they don't want to tell you to eliminate sugar.

They can't handle it. The food companies don't want it. Medicine has never got the memo about sugar. It's amazing to me.

It's amazing to me that medicine still hasn't got the memo about sugar. To medicine, sugar, it's moderation. And what do we say on this program? Elimination.

You got trouble with your blood vessels and you got high blood pressure and you want to prevent not only a heart attack, but you want to prevent vascular dementia? You better cut out the sugar because sugar is toxic. And is there a day go by on this program that we don't talk about that? I can't help it.

I got to come back to food. I used to tell my patients this when I put them on the reset for 30 days. I used to tell them this. Just the fact that for the next 30 days, you're going to eliminate sugar.

Just that one fact. Never mind everything else that we're doing with the reset. You're just eliminating sugar. You have no idea how good that is for you.

And you will find out because it's not going to take long. Not going to take long. First of all, you're going to find out how much sugar you consume. Never mind things that turn to sugar rapidly too, like bread and noodles and pasta and muffins and bagels.

It turns to sugar in nanoseconds. A piece of bread is just sugar molecules holding hands. When you cut that out, your blood pressure goes down. Now, well, it's far more effective in my opinion than blood pressure medication.

I had tens of thousands of patients and, holy smokes, doc, my blood pressure come down. I did the reset. My blood pressure came down. Yup.

Yup. Because sugar is toxic. Hello out there. Sugar is toxic.

And I talk about it in every book that I've ever written in the last 40 years. I always pick on sugar. Diabetes is sugar diabetes. The higher the blood sugar, okay, now let's talk A1C.

The higher the blood sugar, the more the cognitive decline. That's a fact, guys. Diabetics, let me read you a stat. Diabetics are twice as likely to get Alzheimer's or dementia, vascular dementia.

Two times more. Here's what I wrote in my book, The Metabolic Reset. Alzheimer's is like a slow burning fire. You don't see it when it starts, but by the time you find it, it's too late.

And so even this study is saying out of Lunds University, Lunds or Lund, I don't know, Lund, L-U-N-D, university says change these biomarkers to prevent vascular dementia. They don't tell you how to change it. They're talking about medication. I'm talking about lifestyle changes.

Sugar alters brain chemistry, okay, in just 12 days. It messes up brain chemistry. This is why even in mental health, the problem was to get patients to comply with it. It was always hard for them.

In bipolar, schizophrenia, depression, do the reset. Your brain is made up of fat. Your mitochondria want you to give your brain the proper fuel. Your brain is the headquarters.

It takes 25% of your food. You want to eat the right things. That's what you can control. You can't control everything in life, but you can control what you put in your mouth every day.

And if you're thinking about brain health, like me, you want to put everything you can on your side to keep that brain sharp. And I listened to somebody, my old friend was telling me I started doing crossword puzzles and that kind of thing. Well, that's all right, but that's nothing compared to what you can do when you change your diet.

And when you get your diet right, you can't go wrong by lowering your sugar intake. And if you can't eliminate it, you can't go wrong with it. You'll never get hurt by it. Okay, it's your birthday.

Have a little teeny weeny piece of cake. And I mean this size. Okay, I just put my two fingers together. There's hardly any space in between.

Cut it out. Okay, because sugar is toxic. 12 days, it changes your brain. It damages your blood vessels so quickly.

It damages the endothelial. Okay, what is the endothelial layer of your blood vessels? The Teflon layer. It's supposed to be slippery.

Sugar destroys it. It glycates it. And watch those bad oils too. Because remember I talked to you about smoking?

We all got the memo. You know how smoking gave you lung cancer? Aldehydes, the byproduct of it. You know how you get aldehydes today?

All those processed foods, the middle aisles of your grocery store. Made with the bad oils that belong in your car and not in your body. Like canola, like soy, like grape seed oil. Okay?

They're cottonseeds. The canola is Canada's gift to the world. Canola, Canada oil. Okay?

We got other oil. It's better for you. I love good fat in the brain. Have a steak.

Oh, that's the best fat for the brain. Have an egg. Oh, that's the best fat for the brain. Have dairy, good dairy like butter and cheese.

That is tremendous fat for the brain. Your brain loves that stuff. You don't want your brain swimming in sugar. And especially with insulin resistance because insulin can't get across the blood-brain barrier to take that sugar out.

So what happens? Most people, they don't even know it because there's no little sign on top of their head telling them this. Their brain is swimming in the wrong fuel. It's swimming in it.

So if you have any concern about your brain, start with food. Eliminate as much as you can with sugar and those sugar molecules holding hands. Don't live on that stuff at all. Live on eggs, meat, and cheese.

You want a few fruits and vegetables? Go for it. Just don't live on the vegetable kingdom. You need cholesterol and that's found in the animal kingdom.

The world went stupid and it's costing us our brains. The world went stupid because they thought fat made us fat wrong. They thought fat gave us heart disease wrong. They're wrong.

Fat don't do that. So, fat. You like coconut oil? I like it too.

It's fat. You like olive oil? I like it too. It's fat.

Oh, so is bacon. I like bacon better than olive oil. It's better for your brain, but I like olive oil too. Okay?

Now, let's mention a few more things that I talk about all the time when it comes to preventing not brain. Obviously, you don't want to be a diabetic and you can look at your A1C today. If you have anything recent, you try and get it to 5.4 or less because if it's not 5.5, there's some brain degeneration occurring.

Move the needle. Exercise and especially muscle. The research on muscle is incredible. It soaks up.

It's like a mop that mops up your shoulder in your bloodstream. Get stronger. The stronger you are, the better it is for your brain. There's a thing you have that when you flex muscle, it creates B, D, and F.

That's miracle growth for your neurons in your brain. It regenerates the brain by movement, by strength. And I'm telling you guys, muscle, muscle, muscle. Okay?

I don't want you to be Arnold Schwarzenegger. I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about just get stronger than you are for a lot of good reasons, but one of them is vascular dementia. Okay?

Vascular dementia. Omega-3. Your brain is made up 60% of it is DHA5. Do I have to convince you even more about omega-3?

Right? I love it. Elevate your nitric oxide. That's why vitamin D is so good.

That's why Navitol is so good. Pine bark elevates nitric oxide. What does nitric oxide do? Opens, opens, opens blood vessels.

Sodas magnesium relaxes blood vessels. But the nitric oxide part, that's why the sun is so good for you. It's good for your brain. Even vascular dementia.

Yep. Of course, we didn't go into everything, but we touched on it today because I flagged that study. I flagged that study on vascular dementia. Okay?

Anyways, we got a great week, guys, coming. I didn't even talk about these new studies on vitamin D today, although I mentioned vitamin D. Is there ever a day that I don't? I don't know.

Maybe somebody say, oh, Dr. Martin, on a certain day, you never mentioned vitamin D once. Maybe because I always talk about it. Anyway, guys, you know me.

I'm pretty consistent, right? I'm pretty consistent about these things. Want to protect your brain? Put your hand up.

Okay. Just like me. I'm reading this quote from my book. Alzheimer's and dementia is like a slow burning fire.

You don't see it when it starts, but by the time you find it, it's too late. This is quoting Dr. Martin. Okay. Don't listen to that guy.Β

Okay. Love you guys. We'll talk to you soon.
