1865. Q&A with Dr. Martin

Dr. Martin answers questions sent in by our listeners in today's episode.

TRANSCRIPT OF TODAY'S EPISODE

Announcer:  You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.

Dr. Martin:  Well, good morning, everyone. Welcome to another live this morning.

I hope you're having a great start to your day. We sure appreciate you guys.

We love you dearly. Thanks for coming on here.

Q&A Friday, which is always a lot of fun. Thanks for coming on.

Hey, Lucille's asking a good question. She has trouble swallowing vitamins.

She opens them up, puts them in yogurt. Does she get the same effect?

Absolutely. I always laugh because Tony Jr. talks about giving his kids supplements and they never knew that apple sauce had a darker color.

They used to put the supplements in their probiotics and Navitol and whatever.

And yeah, absolutely. If you got to use yogurt, a lot of people have to do that.

They open up an applesauce or whatever and open up the capsule. I mean, put it in there.

No problem, Lucille, whatsoever. You still get all the benefits, man.

The capsule is just a delivery mechanism, the veggie cap that we use. It all dissolves when it gets into your stomach acid anyways.

And then the substance, whether it be a probiotic or DHA or whatever you're taking. Absolutely.

You get it. Okay.

No problem at all. Lucille, thanks for the question.

I'm glad you asked it. A lot of people ask that question and they're not quite sure about what to do about that.

Dr. Martin, what are you recommending for biliary cholangitis?

Well, you know what that is? That is scarring on the liver.

And you know, usually you diagnose it when your liver enzymes are elevated or whatever, and they usually do an ultrasound or whatever to see where you are. Is it fatty liver or is it biliary cholangitis?

Oh, give it to medicine to give it a long name. Okay.

Who cares? It's scarring of the liver.

Look, very important. Okay.

You got scarring of the liver, no alcohol, and nothing that acts like alcohol. Alcohol goes directly to the liver.

Don't pass goat, straight to the liver. But so does high fructose corn syrup.

So, Rafaela, no more sugar, especially because now they use high fructose corn syrup and everything. Don't drink any fruit juices.

You can eat fruit, but don't drink the fruit juice. Okay.

Eliminate that. Eliminate sugar, eliminate carbs that turn to sugar rapidly.

They just pack up your liver and make your liver work even harder. Okay.

So that's what I recommend. Marion.

Dr. Martin mentioned the doctor, the PSA test, and didn't give the name of the doctor who wrote the book. I got the book right in front of me.

Okay. So for those of you watching this morning, you're going to see this writing upside down, but I got the book.

Okay. And it's called The Great Prostate Hoax.

Okay. How big medicine hijacked the PSA test and caused a public health disaster by Richard Alblin, okay, Richard Alblin, PhD, who discovered, invented the PSA test.

And what he's saying in the book, he repents in sackcloth and ashes. Why?

Because they use this test to do biopsies on the prostate. And he said the test was never meant for that.

It was an antigen test to see if the prostate was inflamed or enlarged. And 99% of those things are benign until they start poking, you know, what they do with a biopsy on a prostate when the PSA is elevated often leads to while the doc says, well, look, your PSA is elevated, we better do a biopsy.

And the biopsies, 14 needles are put in there. And there's so many side effects to that.

And that look, I've never been a big fan. If you go back on my podcast, if you go back on my radio show, I've been saying this for years and years and years.

They're over diagnosing. And he puts in some unbelievable statistics in there, in the book on it's been a disaster for men.

Now, understand, I'm not giving you medical advice. I wouldn't tell a man not to get a biopsy.

That's a decision that a person makes. But they should get all the information so that they can make a very informed decision.

Because, like I said, physicians, they've been duped by the PSA test, as if it means if it's rising, that's cancer. The guy who invented it says it's absolute bunk.

It wasn't invented for that. That test is for inflammation and the prostate, swelling of the prostate.

And men after 50, good luck with that. Okay.

I got a friend of mine. He said, okay, seniors go to the show, you know, they do the matinees, right?

They go to bed early. So he said, watch the men, Dr.

Martin, they're going to get up halfway through the show, and they got to go for a pee. And then he says it like in French, that's a prostate, the prostate.

Men got to get up and pee halfway through the show. Always laughed about it, just the way he said it.

Right? The great prostate hoax, how big medicine hijacked the PSA test and caused a public health disaster.

I knew about it a long time ago because I saw this doctor being interviewed about the PSA test. This is years ago.

And he was really upset that they are using it to do biopsies. He says it's terrible.

Never invented for that. Okay.

So that's it, Marianne. That's the question.

Thank you very much. And you're saying, yeah, Richard Alblen.

Deb, whom is to use the hormonal balance? Deb, your postmenopausal?

Yep. Particular wonder if they would benefit in some way.

Can you talk about hormones briefly? Well, I talk about hormones every day.

I'm a hormone doctor. I specialized in hormones.

Insulin, cortisol, estrogen, progesterone, thyroid, stimulating hormone. Which one do you want to talk about?

Okay. And you're asking about the menopausal formula.

Well, I got a lot of women on the menopausal formula because it does a couple of things. It does a couple of things.

Okay. Menopausal formula was formulated, first of all, to elevate your estrogen, to elevate progesterone, to balance the estrogen.

Because what happens, it's a teeter-totter. As women, and it happens, can happen early in their life.

You see a young girl with heavy menses. If you see a young girl with acne, if you see young girls with terrible, not regulated periods, they got too much estrogen compared to their progesterone.

Happens to women postpartum. They lose all their progesterone in the placenta, and the body doesn't keep up, and estrogen can take off.

And again, it's always relative to progesterone. When a woman is doing really well hormonally, here's what's happening.

Estrogen and progesterone are equal. And what happens in a woman is it's never, progesterone is too high.

You're never going to get too much progesterone. That don't happen.

It's too little progesterone, and estrogen dominates. That slows your thyroid to a crawl.

Add stress, and cortisol robs progesterone even more. That slows the thyroid even more.

You look at food, you gain weight. Your hair is thinning.

You grow a little beard or mustache for women, growing hair in the wrong places. And often the skin, thus acne.

You can get adult acne. I think we have a question, if I'm not mistaken, about that.

Let me see if I can answer this question, because I thought I saw this. Oh, there it is.

Marissa, I'm answering your question right now. Marissa is saying, why is acne still occurring at the age of 64?

And by the way, Marissa, you're still a pup. 64.

You're a kid. Okay.

But she's still got acne. Is it hormones or dairy products?

Well, I doubt it's dairy. I doubt that.

I mean, it's very easy to find out, eliminate it, and see what happens to your skin. Some people just don't do well with dairy.

You know how much I love dairy. You know that.

Eggs, meat, and cheese. Eggs, meat, and cheese.

EMC, EMC, EMC. But you know, some people don't do as well with dairy.

And okay, but you got to eliminate that. But I would suggest to you, Marissa, it's your estrogen dominance.

Okay? So that's why I love the menopausal formula, because it balances the estrogen progesterone, and it contains DIM.

D-I-M. And DIM knocks out the xenoestrogens.

You and I live in a world surrounded by what they call xenoestrogen. They mimic estrogen.

Your body thinks it's estrogen. All the fragrances and the stuff, chemicals and all that, they mimic.

They're called xenoestrogen. And that's a big problem.

You know, a doctor will say, well, I tested your estrogen. You don't have enough estrogen.

No, believe you me, compared to progesterone, you got lots of estrogen. Yeah, your estrogen's going down.

You're in postmenopause or you're in perimenopause or whatever. Sure, your estrogen's going down.

But the issue is the xenoestrogen. And they're not measuring that.

But DIM knocks that out of your body, balances that out. Okay?

So there's your answer. And Marissa, and let me see, that was Deb.

Norma. Lymphedema.

Okay? I saw a person yesterday, or the day before in the gym, they got lymphedema.

Their bottom part of their legs below their knees are twice the size. That's lymphedema.

They're not draining. Look, I mean, I used to tell patients this, that had lymphedema.

And this particular Norma, how to treat lymphedema, one leg is noticeably bigger than the other. I got about, I'd say 10, 20% results, putting on a person with Navitol because of a blood supply.

And, you know, I used to do it with Navitol and a mixture of Navitol. And then I would supplement with Kirkland.

Very good for the circulation. You'll know in a month that that starts coming down, it's working.

But generally, I only got 20, 30% with lymphedema. Anybody got higher than that, I'd like to meet them.

Okay? Because there ain't no easy solution to that.

You know, the chronic swelling of the lower legs, usually below, usually below the knee. And like I said, I saw someone in the gym the other day with that condition.

And usually, unless someone here has got something better, I never saw great results. But I did get some results.

Okay? Thank you.

That was Norma. Joan, what is glutathione?

Well, glutathione, your body makes it. It's a master antioxidant.

Okay? Made in the liver, your glutathione.

Okay? I call glutathione Velcro.

And what I love about glutathione is that it's like Velcro, it sticks to toxins, including yeast, mercury, lead, cadmium, aluminum, and it gets rid of it out of your body. Okay?

Glutathione, which is a combination of three amino acids. Okay?

But your body makes it. Problem is, you get older, or if you have fatty liver, or your liver is not working properly, you don't make as much glutathione.

Okay? Now remember, Navitol is a precursor to glutathione.

It elevates your glutathione. Emptying your liver.

You know what I talk about doing a liver detox? What's so good about the EMC, eggs, meat, and cheese, it detoxes and empties your liver.

Because people today have a gummed up liver. Number one reason is because they got a fatty liver, and that fatty liver comes from sugars and sugar molecules like bread, pasta, rice, cereals, juices, and all that gumming up your liver.

So the more you empty your liver, the more glutathione you produce. Okay?

That's glutathione. Okay?

Got the memo? Thanks for the question.

And that was Joan. Sue, I'm laughing, Sue, because you're asking a question that's funny.

Dr. Martin, are you for and against peanut butter?

I like peanut butter. Okay? I do. I do.

I like peanut butter. When I was a kid, I ate more peanut butter and bananas than anybody on the universe.

Okay? I like peanut butter.

Is it good for you? Nah, probably not that good for you.

Especially if you get the peanut butter with icing sugar. Okay?

So if it ain't natural peanut butter, you know, peanut oil isn't good for you. You know what I mean?

Look, you have a little bit of peanut butter, you're not going to hear from me. Like, don't do it during the reset.

Okay? Now you're asking another question.

Sourdough bread. Well, it's the best of breads is sourdough because of the way it's made.

It's much lower carb. The way your body breaks sourdough down, it breaks it down much, much slower than any other kind of bread.

But, and here's the big but, okay? I put the big but in here.

If you are in the 93% of the population that have metabolic syndrome, I don't care what kind of bread, including sourdough bread, you be very, very careful because you got a bad relationship. Okay?

You got a bad relationship to carbohydrates and sugars. And so I'm very reticent to tell you to have some sourdough bread.

But I'm not saying you can never have it. You don't even hear me say, well, you can never have pasta.

I'm married an Italian. But I don't live on it.

Okay? I live on the meat.

Okay? Where's the meat?

I live on meat. Okay? My wife’s sauce to die for.

Noodles? Very, very little.

And if you're on the reset, you eliminate that because you got to fix metabolic syndrome.

So you have to understand, okay, where I'm coming from. I want you to understand that, Sue, because it's really important.

If you're on the Titanic of metabolic syndrome, which is insulin resistance, sourdough bread, do you know what I'm saying? Maybe not so much.

Right? So just don't fool yourself because a lot of people, they fool themselves because they go, well, it's a better bread.

Yeah, I know. But, okay, it ain't steak.

It's not an egg where you don't need any insulin. You need less insulin compared to white bread or the whole wheat or whatever, but you still need insulin.

So be very careful. Okay?

Does that answer your question? Peanut butter?

Yeah. I can't endorse it very much, even though I do like it.

Okay? I love peanut butter.

And some people like almond butter and all that. Yeah, I don't like that.

You like almond butter? Yeah, but there's a lot of oxalates in that.

Be very careful for kidney stones and oxalates. Okay.

Monique, wonder what it means when you get cramps and get a burning sensation in your feet. Well, the burning sensation can be a diabetic thing, even a pre-diabetic, which I don't like the term, but people use it.

You get a neuropathy, which can be burning cramps, though generally are dehydration, low electrolytes, maybe low magnesium, but I would probably say more electrolytes, Monique. And if you're getting burning in the feet, that may be a first sign that you and insulin, and you're getting severe insulin resistance.

And be very careful. Lower those carbohydrates down to almost nothing.

Okay. Glenda, there's a lot of talk about liquid collagen.

Okay. It's called spoiled child.

Never heard of it. I had to look it up.

Liquid collagen. Look, you want to take collagen?

I always tell people, you know what the best collagen is? Is bone broth.

Make your own or we make it for you. Okay.

Bone broth, the best collagen that you can get. Liquid, I've seen a lot of them over the years, and they got very little, the amount of collagen in there.

I don't know this one called spoiled child. I just looked at it.

It costs a lot, and there's not that much collagen in there, but I don't know. I never tried it.

I don't know anybody that did. And if it's a new thing on the internet, I don't know much about it.

I do know a lot about collagen though. I've been talking about collagen protein for a lot of years.

I love bone broth, guys. The best.

The best collagen is bone broth. So if you wanted liquid, drink a little bone broth.

Mary Ann. Mary Ann, she's confused.

She had a flare up of diverticulitis. No fun.

No fun. I talked to someone yesterday that just went through several flare ups of diverticulitis.

And Mary Ann is baffled because she'd been eating EMC. Okay.

Can't wrap my head around it. Okay.

Now I have to lay off meat, and I don't want to. I've been eating steak pretty much every day for about three years.

Well, look, Mary Ann, when you talk medicine, you talk generalities. When I'm on my show here, I'm going to talk generalities before I answer your question.

Here's what I found. And here's a facts of diverticulosis.

And diverticulosis are little pouches in the bowel. Okay.

And they get impacted with feces that can lead to diverticulitis. Okay.

So here's the fact. Generally, people that get this for years have been big herbivores.

They have lived on fruits and vegetables and fiber. That's a fact.

They're fiber loaded. Fiber irritates the bowel.

Doctors, God love them. Okay.

When they get diverticulosis, they think, well, you're not eating enough fiber, but it's just the opposite of that. So I don't know, Mary Ann, your background, if you ever had diverticulosis before.

But this is what I found. When I found diverticulosis, I changed their diet.

They went from plant-based to animal-based. Okay.

And I always told them, and you've heard me on this program, fiber is overrated. People, they bought the fiber.

Okay. They bought it since the 1960s, 50s, was more 60s.

And they went from bacon and eggs in the morning to cereal. Dr.

Kellogg's lied. Okay.

He lied about it. Well, you need fiber.

No. The best fiber is water, first of all, and coffee.

The best fiber in the world is water and coffee. It's the best thing for your bowel.

Okay. So you're confused, Mary Ann, because you've been eating real good and you've got a flare-up.

Okay. Again, now we're talking individuals, but I had to give you the general background because it was just the opposite.

I saw in the office, and I mean it, I rarely ever saw a man, first of all. I did, but I rarely.

Men, diverticulosis is rare compared to a woman. And it was quite simple because women bought the salad line.

Okay. I should write a book, The Salad Line.

Okay. You're not a herbivore.

You don't have cellulase. You don't even make that enzyme.

You're not a rabbit. A rabbit has cellulase.

You don't. You're not a cow.

A cow has four stomachs to break down all that salad, grass. Okay.

Salad is just glorified grass. Okay.

Now I'm joking to some extent. Okay.

But I'm serious. I don't know how many patients over the years I helped so much if they had a flare of diverticulitis.

I saw them afterwards. But diverticulosis, I said, well, look, you're eating way too much fiber.

Stop it. And I'd flip them and they couldn't get over it.

And then when they had the colonoscopy done again, the doctor, what do you mean? It's so much better.

What have you done? And I used to tell them, don't tell the doctor.

You're just going to chew them off. They're going to say, that's crazy.

Who told you that? Then I'm in trouble all the time.

Dr. Martin, he's a quack.

Anyway, so Marianne, I just got to tell you where I'm coming from. Because I'm telling you, it wasn't the meat or the eggs or the dairy that causes diverticulosis.

It does not cause it. It's the opposite of that.

So I don't know your background. I don't know if you had a weakness there previously or whatever, and you got a flare up, might've been a perfect storm.

It wasn't because you were eating steak. I can guarantee you that.

Okay. So can I keep following Dr.

Martin's protocol? Yes, I would.

I would. Look, I very much caution people not to get on a high fiber diet.

You're just going to irritate that thing. Drink water and coffee.

You like coffee? Drink it.

Okay, we can do one more this morning and then we'll do some more on Monday. And, Nancy, the same thing.

What would Dr. Martin do once I was diagnosed with diverticulitis after a colonoscopy?

The doctor said to eat more fiber. I'm getting a migraine.

I'm getting a migraine. That's what they're trained to say.

That's what they're trained to say. They see diverticulosis that turned to diverticulitis and they go, oh, you weren't eating enough fiber.

No, you were eating too much. 99% of the time, Nancy.

Okay. You got the memo?

Guys, I'm telling you. Now, get on digestive enzymes 100% and don't leave home without them.

You want those digestive enzymes at every meal if you have diverticulosis. Here's my protocol for diverticulosis.

Digestive enzymes, bone broth, digest E's because they're all mucilages. Bone broth is very important to regenerate the bowel with the L-glutamine especially.

Okay? Probiotic, those four things.

And even curcumin because of its anti-inflammatory effect and even the DHA. Do all of it if you have to because you want to repair that.

You want to repair those pouches. Okay?

And I had tremendous success over the years with that protocol. Okay?

Okay, guys. Love you guys more than you know. Talk to you soon.
