TRANSCRIPT OF TODAY'S EPISODE

Announcer:  You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.

Dr. Martin:  Well good morning everyone. How are you? And once again, welcome to another live this morning. We love having you on if you can. Thanks again guys for joining us here on another Doctor Is In podcast live session here on our Facebook. Let's get going guys. I want to go through studies this morning. I got so many studies. Every week I say I'm going to get to them. I don't always get to them because I'm trying to answer questions even on non Q&A days like Fridays and Mondays. Usually the question and answer. And you guys know that I really like to answer you. And sometimes I get questions and then it becomes a whole topic, right? Okay, so let's get going.

I'm reading an article about the blue zones. So have you heard of that? So there's some books out there and talk about where people live the longest and they call them the blue zones. Guys, I hate to be negative, but it's so stupid. Okay. Because what it is, it's religion folks. It's not science. It's religion. Vegetarianism, veganism, they say, well, you see like if you go in a certain part of California, it's a blue zone. People live longer and they're vegetarians. I get a migraine guys. Okay? Frequently. Somebody said yesterday. Dr. Martin, you get a lot of migraines. I know, but when I see stupidity, when I see nonsense, when I see propaganda rather than the truth, I got to call it out. So the blue zones, if you really look at it, it's a bunch of nonsense. They don't live any longer and anywhere else. And as a matter of fact, you know where people live the longest? Japan and they eat a lot of fish and Hong Kong, probably the highest consumption of meat anywhere in the world is Hong Kong and they live the longest.

But guys, you know this centenarian stuff, it's craziness. You live to a hundred by the grace of God. Okay, and even then, do you want to? Let's be honest about it. What is the quality of life? What is their brain like? Because you hear, "Oh, you know what? You were meant to live till you're 120." Says who? I can go through the city of Sudbury. We got 250,000 people here and there might be a few people that live to a hundred. Good for them, but that's not even near the average. And then I get people say, "Well, my uncle, he smoked, he drank and never exercised a day in his life and he lived till he was a hundred." Yeah, but that's by the grace of God. You know what I mean? It's craziness, guys. It's just not facts. And if you want to live long, good for you. Me too. But here's the point. You don't go for quantity of years. I've tried to teach this since I've been in practice for 50 years. Don't go for quantity, go for quality. I don't want to be 85 and I don't have my gray matter up here that's working. I don't want that. I'm sure my family don't want that.

You know what I'm saying by that, guys? Like go for quality. This is what I try and do with people. Look, you can say, well, that healthy as a horse, and then you get hit by a bus. I was listening to a commercial the other day and you know my expression. It gave me a migraine. Okay. Maybe I'll change that because he must be tired of my migraine. No, but the guy said, okay, here's the commercial. My father died suddenly. He was healthy as a horse and he had a stroke, but he had life insurance at 65. Well, first of all, he wasn't healthy as a horse and then had a stroke. Okay. First of all, they might not have known it, but he was unhealthy. You just don't have a stroke out of anywhere or a heart attack without damage. I know it can come suddenly, but there's a lot of clues ahead of time.

So I'm just saying, guys, I read this stuff about the blue zones and people ask me about it and I go, man, you could go down to Florida in Arizona where you get all the sun. And you know what happens? They're sick there too. You know why? Well, they don't get in the sun, first of all. They just don't. They're scared skinny of it. But you know what I mean? There's a lot of things that go to your health and the thing you can control is what you put in that mouth of yours every day. Food. You can't control everything, but you can control that. You can control this point, get stronger. These things have shown to give you more quality than quantity. Okay? Quantity. I want quality of my brain up here, guys. I want my memory to work. Although I do pull out my senior card every day. When I forget, I pull out my senior card. Okay. It works. Hey, I'm a senior. I forgot. I pull it out. But I'm just telling you.

Anyway, that was one article on the Blue Zones. It's a fraud, guys. It's a fraud. You want to be a vegetarian? Good for you. Don't try and convince me for one second that it's the best way to go. You can't convince me. Why? Because of my nutritional background. There are just too many things you're missing. So if you want to be a vegetarian, well, good for you. But you're going to have to supplement and I mean big time because you're going to miss out. You're missing out. And I tried in my office when I had vegetarians or vegans. Here's what I used to say every time. Can I change your mind? Well, can I change your mind? Are you open to another point of view? You've been lied to. I'm sorry, you have been. I know where it comes from. Blue zone nonsense. That's what I call it. And I'm very opinionated about it, but I'm sorry. It ain't true. If you miss out on eating steak, you're making a big mistake. Don't eat steak. Big mistake. You like that? I like that. I might use that again.

Omega-3 and glaucoma. Here we go. Here we go. Another study. Omega-3 for the win. You know what I think of omega-3, guys? I love omega-3. And they're saying in this study, there's actually two of them on omega-3, two brand new ones. One on glaucoma. Okay. Glaucoma is pressure behind the eye. Now you ought to know the answer to this before I say it. Why would you get pressure behind the eye? Blood supply. Eye, blood supply. Kidneys, blood supply. Heart? Blood supply. Your eyeballs. Blood supply. Okay? So blood vessels. You get glaucoma? Yeah. You got a problem with blood supply. What damages little blood vessels? Faster than you can say cereal. Sugar. Why? Because sugar glycates. Okay. Sugar glycates blood vessels. What does that mean, Dr. Martin? What is glycation? Well, glycation is damaged like caramelization. It'll caramelize your joints, but where it starts is in the blood vessels. It glycates. Proof, proof. I'm going to give you proof.

You can actually get a test. You can get a blood test that measures glycation. What? Yep. You can get a blood test. I used to tell my patient, "I'm not guessing. I'm testing." I'm not guessing. I tested. I got your A1C. What is A1C? Glycated hemoglobin. So you've got red blood cells, right? You got red blood cells. You might not be thinking of red blood cells, but you should because they carry oxygen. Very important. You can't live without it. You need red blood cells, right? You got white blood cells, that's your immune system. But your red blood cells, what do they do? They carry oxygen. And in the middle of the red blood cell is hemoglobin. What does that do? Carries oxygen. And you can measure it. Sugar glycates the hemoglobin in the red blood cell. Measure it.

So if you have elevated A1C, what is that? Glycated hemoglobin. That's what happens behind the eye. In the blood vessels, they get glycated. They're damaged by sugar. The food industry doesn't want me to talk about that. They don't. Dr. Martin, it's too simple. It's more complicated than that. No, it's not. See what you can control? Your sugar intake because it glycates your blood vessels. Just like it glycates your hemoglobin, your red blood cells, you can measure it. Why do you think I always talk to you about A1C, guys? I go over it and over it and over it with you. If you're above 5.4, it's even better to be lower than 5.4. But if you're above 5.4, you got problems. Remember this again, Martin Clinic statement. I've been telling you this for as long as I've been around. Okay. Diabetes, not the first thing to happen. It's the last thing to happen.

Your body's dedicated so that you won't be a diabetic. God gave you an organ, called your pancreas. And man oh man, it is dedicated to you not becoming a diabetic. And diabetes is the last thing that happens. But I always used to tell my patients, look, if you're above 5.4 in your A1C, you're already a diabetic. Don't wait for a doctor to put you on medication. You're on the Titanic. Turn the ship around. And millions did exactly that. You know what they did? They turned the ship around or they got off the ship. They were on the Titanic. Get off. Okay. Get into the life boat because they understood that, look, you can't control everything. I used to tell people there are peer reviewed studies that you can reverse diabetes. I don't like the word cure. It's like an alcoholic. Okay. Are they cured? I haven't had a drink in 20 years. No, you're not cured because if you have one, you're right back. So diabetes, when you understand what it is, you can reverse it. It's food. It's sugar and sugar molecules holding hands like bread. You just got to stop it. I know. It's so simplistic. I know. I know.

Okay, back to omega-3 because I didn't know how I got on this whole subject of glycation because we're showing omega-3 helps with glaucoma. Why? Because it lubricates your blood vessels. That's what omega-3 does. It's a lube job. Lubrication. And every study they do, and there's a few negative ones, there's always some negative studies because people don't like the idea. I hate to be negative, but they don't like the idea of taking a supplement instead of a drug. The pharmaceutical companies are powerful. They hate me. They're powerful. And yet you guys know this. If you need a drug, you take a drug. I'm not against drugs. They ought to be bandaids. You need an antibiotic? Take an antibiotic. It'll save your life. Am I against that? Nope. No. I'm not a purist, guys. Okay?

It's like somebody the other day was saying to me, Dr. Martin, why are you a carnivore? I'm not. I'm not a carnivore. I'm not. I love carnivore. I love eggs, meat and cheese. I love butter. I love dairy. I do. But it's not only that, but I don't tell people they can never have another fruit in their life. I just don't want you to drink it. I don't tell people they can't have vegetables. I don't. I might for 30 days because I'm trying to get you off the Titanic. Your insulin's too high. You have insulin resistance. Your A1C is too high. Let's turn this around. And so for 30 days, I put you on the metabolic reset. You and now we're probably over a couple of million people have done the reset. It's 30 days. Give me 30 days of your life. I will change your life. Well, not me. You'll change your life. Can you do it? 30 days. Why? Because I'm going to show you you were on the Titanic and we're going to get you off of it. We're going to turn the ship around. We're not going to hit the iceberg or maybe you already have, and I'm going to put you in a life boat. Okay? Because you got problems.

The guy that talked about his dad on the insurance. Well, my dad had insurance. Thank God. But he had a stroke but he was healthy. No, he wasn't. I guarantee you he had insulin resistance 100%. I guarantee it. True prevention is not life insurance. Omega-3. I've done this in podcasts before. Three things worse than smoking. For your health, can there be anything worse than smoking? Well, according to research, yes. If you're low in vitamin D, it's worse than smoking. And 80% of the population have low levels of vitamin D. Worse than smoking. Inactivity worse than smoking. When you can't move, when you're not moving, worse than smoking according to research. And you know what the third one is? When you're low in omega-3. There isn't a doctor in the world that shouldn't be recommending to their patients, "You know what? If you do nothing else, take vitamin D. Don't be scared of it. And omega-3. Take vitamin D and omega-3 and vitamin E. What? Exercise. Walk. Get stronger.

Three things worse than smoking. You can look it up on a podcast I give you the research on. Low levels of vitamin D, low levels of omega-3 and inactivity. Omega-3 and glaucoma, it works. And you know Dr. Martin's combo. You had eye trouble of any kind. Glaucoma, retinopathy, cataracts, vision problems. I said, look, I'll tell you what you do. And there's nothing better in my opinion, the combination of pine bark extract with omega-3 high DHA. But your eyeballs. Listen. Linda, listen, Larry. Your eyeballs. They're made up of DHA fat. Your eyeballs. Plus it's going to lubricate your blood vessels in the back of your eye. It's all blood supply. Same thing with your kidneys. Same thing with your brain.

Omega-3 and glaucoma. Omega-3 new study, 43% decreased people at took omega-3 on a daily basis had a daily supplement, 43% decrease in cardiovascular events. Hard to argue with that. I remember talking to cardiologists. I think there was 200 in a room one time. They had me speaking on nutrition. I said, "Put your hand up. If you take omega-3." This is, guys, almost 25 years ago, I think I did this. Put your hand up. You take omega-3. There was 250 physicians in that room at least. Vast majority put their hand up. They took omega-3. This is 25 years ago. I said, "How many of you are recommending this to your patients?" And then there was only a handful of hands that went up. I said, "You're a bunch of hypocrites. You take omega-3, yet you don't tell your patients to take omega-3. You're a hypocrite." I take omega-3 and I tell you to take it. And if you don't, you're making a big boo-boo. I can bring you the water. I can't make you drink it, but I'm just telling.

The research under this is so overwhelming. Then you get a negative one. We commented on this a few weeks. Omega-3 makes you sick. Come on. It's like people arguing with me because I love to do that with coffee. Doctor Martin, you're such a kook. You in your coffee. Well, here's a negative study on coffee. I told you. And then I said, well, I did this on my radio days. I got 150 studies on coffee. The benefits? It's over 300 now. It's double. So 300 to 1. It'll always be negative. God gave you a gift. Coffee. Quit arguing with him. Enjoy it. Now on omega-3. Look, I would like you to eat omega-3 too. Okay? That's why you like fish and a lot of people do, which is so good for you. I like steak because steak's got omega-3 too and it's got even more than fish. Okay. And I tell people every day, Dr. Martin, do you eat fish? Yep. Every day in a capsule. You love fish, Dr. Martin? Yeah, in a capsule. I wish I liked fish. I just don't. Okay. I'm not a big fish eater, but I love it in a capsule every day, seven days a week.

I'm trying to protect my noggin up here and my eyes and my kidneys and my heart and they vilify steak. No, steak. No, it's got high DHA in it. Why do you argue with it? Here's what I ask people. You like steak? In my office. You like steak? Yeah, but I was told that it's red meat. They're going to give me a heart attack. I said, "First of all, do you like it? " "Oh, I love it." I said, "Eat more of it. And you'll like meat." "You mean I can eat more of it?" "Yeah. Have it every day. Seven days a week if you want." If you can't afford a steak every day, "you like hamburger?" "Yeah. You mean I can have a hamburger?" "Yeah. You can have a hamburger." "Every day?" "Every day. Without the bun though, okay? It's the bun that will kill you. It's not the hamburger." "Seriously, Dr. Martin?" I said, "I'm a good news bear. I'm giving you good news. I'm telling you to eat stuff you like. You like bacon?" "Oh, I love bacon, but..." And then I said, "Stop. I don't want to hear what your doctor has to say about nutrition." They don't know anything about nutrition. I don't want to hear about that.

"Well, what about the nitrites?" "Well, who cares? It's just celery salt." Why, salt ain't going to kill you. It's sugar that kills you. Bacon's got the same oil as olive oil. "You like olive oil?" "Well, I hear it's good for me." "Yeah, I like the taste of bacon more than olive oil. It's got the same oil. Oleic acid. How do you like them there?" Thinks, and patients go, "can I give you a high five, Dr. Martin?" "Yeah, you can give it to me right now." I know it goes against the grain, guys. It goes against the blue zone. When I think of blue zones, I think of my grandchildren when they were going through the Blues cruise. No, what were they called now? The Blues Clues or, I don't know. They used to watch cartoons on TV. They made me think of blue zones and it gives me a migraine.Okay. I didn't get very far. How many more did I have to go through? Well, we got another day tomorrow, so maybe we get through this. Okay. Maybe we do catch up on those studies. Let me see. Maybe, we'll try. Okay?

What's Friday? Q&A. Send in your questions, guys. Okay. Send in your questions. Here's what you do by the way, because I'm doing a little advertising, okay? Share this. Share it. Share.
