Dr. Martin: Well, good morning everyone. And once again, welcome to another live this morning. Nice to have you on with us. Nice to have you on. Okay, now listen to this, okay? This is kind of interesting. It's not really a study. It was a paper written, an article written. It takes 17 years. Okay. Now listen to this. 17 years on average medical evidence can take 17 years to change everyday clinical practice. 17 years. So for example, for doctors, let's say they got the memo that all along they've been sort of duped about cholesterol. By the time that filters down to a medical practice takes 17 years and it's unreal when you think of that. So again, guys, I'll give you an example.
There's a whole new paradigm shift occurring in research on mental health. Started in the summer of 2022 and became big, big topics on this podcast. I talked about it almost every day for several weeks because of the news that one, SSRIs antidepressants really didn't fix the problem. Now that wasn't news to me, but it seemed to be news to medicine that SSRIs still very popular. What are they saying? About 50% of young people are on antidepressants today or anti-anxiety medication and they're saying they're looking for love in all the wrong places because it came out in the summer of 2022 that it's not really a chemical imbalance. Depression isn't a chemical imbalance. That's not what comes first. So we reported that. The other one was on Alzheimer's and mental health, that it wasn't what they thought. It wasn't tau protein. It's not the cause of it because all of medicine put all their eggs in the same basket in order to treat Alzheimer's. That's why there are absolutely no medications at all that work at all to prevent Alzheimer's because they were looking for love in all the wrong places. That came out in the summer of 2022 and they talked about energy in the brain, that it was more energy rather than plaque in the brain for not only mental health but for Alzheimer's. Those were big, big findings, guys.
Now here's the point of this article. When will that filter down to psychiatrist offices? Okay, I'm just talking mental health here now as an example. When will the average psychiatrist get the memo? 17 years. 2022 is when they made these big findings, but it doesn't affect medical practice. It takes 17 years on average to change anything in a medical practice. I'll give you another example. Well, let me just go back for one moment here to Alzheimer's. In 2005, there was a Nobel Prize in medicine given out to the researchers that found that Alzheimer's was type three diabetes. It was diabetes of the brain. Guys, you would think that would filter in to a medical office. They still haven't got the memo about that with Alzheimer's. There's very few doctors, medical doctors talking about food and Alzheimer's. They're not talking about it. They don't practice it in their practice even though a Nobel Prize in medicine was given out in 2005. Oh, holy smokes. That was 21 years ago. It still hasn't got to the average medical clinic. You know more about it than your family doctor knows about type three diabetes Alzheimer's. It's a fuel problem. It's the brain swimming in sugar. Okay? They still haven't got that memo. That's how long it takes if ever. Okay?
So don't hold your breath, guys. Don't be shocked when you go to your doctor. God love them when the memo hasn't come to them. So if you talk mental health to a doctor and they often put you on SSRIs and you think that's going to change? Not quickly. Not quickly. Cholesterol. I've been talking about it for 50 years. Is it going to change? Probably not. Not anytime soon. There's too much vested interest. Remember, guys, when you go to medical school, okay, you go to medical school. They're bought and paid for by the pharmaceutical industry. What do you think they're going to teach? You think they're going to teach against statin drugs, cholesterol lowering medications? Do you think they're going to teach the average medical student that SSRIs are not effective? They don't work because they're looking for love in all the wrong places? The medical schools don't get that memo. It's kind of discouraging in a way.
But you know what? I always say, "Well, I'm going to be out here as long as I'm allowed and I'm going to give you the news medical news behind the news," because your family doctor and medicine in general, they don't get the memos. It doesn't filter down to them. So, unless they're reading and they're very interested, I met a lot of doctors over the years that were very interested in nutrition said, "Dr. Martin, I know nothing. I'm going to start following you." You'd be surprised how many doctors follow me. And I give them a blast, but they're open. They just want information. They know their training. They wouldn't know a protein if it slapped them in the face. They don't learn it. They don't know anything about supplements other than vitamin D will kill you. They just don't know anything. They're ignorant of it. And I'm not waiting for medical schools to turn around. I know they're going to start in the United States in the fall teaching nutrition. I think it's going to be mandatory. Well, that's a start. Like you think food isn't important?
Anyway, this is an article, 17 years for medical evidence to change everyday clinical practice. You think they'll get the memo on insulin resistance being at the root of heart disease and kidney disease and cancer and Alzheimer's and diabetes. Think about diabetes just for a minute. Diabetes is a food problem and it takes 10 to 20 years of insulin resistance before diabetes even shows up. So medicine, well, they talk a little bit about pre-diabetic, but when you're a pre-diabetic, you're already a diabetic. See, the lab has hijacked medicine, physicians are trained to look at numbers and that's all right in a way. But by the time you're a diabetic and it actually comes back ... I used to do this with patients all the time. They would come to see me. I turned to them, "You're a diabetic." And they looked at me like I had two heads. I said, "Well, you're a diabetic." I like the urine test even before I like the blood test because urine don't lie when it comes to that. You're peeing out sugar, you're a diabetic.
And anyway, I said, "Well, you've been going this way." I said, "Two things for sure. One, you had this for at least 10 years where it was coming. You were on the Titanic and nobody told you." One. I said, "Secondly," okay secondly, "you got a food problem because you have an allergy to carbohydrates. You and carbs don't get along. And I can tell you because of your blood work and your urine, you're a carboholic." And then I would get the argument, "Not me." I said, "Yeah, you. Take out a mirror." Okay. "Look in it." "Okay." "Who do you see?" "Me." I said, "Yeah, it's you. And this whole thing started with you and you got an allergy to carbohydrates." The worst deception, I used to tell my patients this. The worst deception is self-deception. Don't fool yourself anymore. Okay? Some people didn't like what I was saying. I mean it, not many but a few. They didn't like it. They walked out of my clinic and that Dr. Martin, he's a quack. Why? Because I told you the truth.
There's a verse in Galatians 4 and 16. You know what it says? "Have I become your enemy because I told you the truth?" I'm your enemy now. You didn't like what I had to say? I'm trying to help you. You're a carboholic. Stop it. You already hit the iceberg. You're in deep doo doo. If you have diabetes, there are no cure for diabetes except from food. Any medication you take, any medication you take, that's not going to fix your diabetes. It's a band-aid. And you just have to put in your ... We used to say it in French "cocombre" there, your cucumber up there. You have to put it in your craw that you don't get along with carbs anymore. Okay. Now, where in medicine are you ever going to hear that? What family doctor will tell you that? What endocrinologist will tell you that? Nope. It's all treatment. You're diabetic now. You need to take Metformin. You need to be on medications and we're going to put you on a statin drug too because you're a diabetic and you're going to be at much more risk of a heart disease. That's true. You're much more risk of heart disease. Statin drug ain't going to help you. But anyway.
See what I mean, guys? That's what this article I had to stop. I read it and I knew it already, but I said they actually put it in years. They put it in years it takes to change a clinical practice of a physician. Yeah. See, guys, you know more. You know better. Look, food doesn't cure everything. Okay? It don't. But holy smokes, is it not important? Is it not at least important? And when it comes to diabetes, look, type one is different because it's autoimmune. The pancreas is not even working. Their insulin doesn't work. At the end of the day though, they got to eat differently, but that's autoimmune. I want to get into that and we won't have time today. The new study on autoimmune. Fascinating. Okay. But I get revved up guys because this is so important. Don't wait for your doctor to get the memo. The memo to get down to medical practice in order for them to change anything takes 17 years!
And like I say, for type three diabetes, which is Alzheimer's, they still haven't got the memo. 2005 Nobel Prize in medicine. It still hasn't filtered down to your family doctor. It hasn't filtered down to any physician that is treating dementia, Alzheimer's. They haven't got that information. Guys, when you think of something like this, when you read something like this, I have to be careful that I don't get discouraged, but man, it almost takes your breath away, right? It almost takes your breath away. So I'm just going to keep preaching it. You can come one at a time, one at a time. Physicians, if they're open-minded at all, they're closed-minded. Guys, there's nothing you can do about that. And for the way it is in our society, you need a doctor, but study. Listen. So at least you can make good choices. Okay? You can make choices on your own. And when you hear the nonsense out there that they're still teaching, let me do this because I just read this yesterday. I made some notes.
Okay, here's one that hasn't filtered down yet. In 2008, I'll just give you an example here, guys, because I read this article yesterday. Largest diet experiment in history. I remember it. I was in the radio business when this study came out in 2008. I had my own radio show. The Doctor Is In. The Doctor Is In has been around for a long time. I had a syndicated radio show. I talked about this study in 2008 and I forgot about it until I reread it yesterday. Here it is. Largest diet experiment in history occurred in 2006. 48,000 women were put on a low fat diet. The low fat craze. Less fat, lots of grains, lots of fruits and vegetables published in the Journal of American Medical Association. It did nothing. Low fat. It did nothing except make them sicker. In this group, more heart disease, more heart disease. Low fat? Yep. Low cholesterol. Yep. They ate a low fat, low cholesterol diet and they got worse. Worse for heart, worse for cancer, worse for everything that you can think of. It was a huge failed experiment.
You know what, guys? That still hasn't filtered down to doctor's offices. They didn't get the memo yet. That low fat doesn't work. They still teach it. Yeah. I reread this yesterday. I had a migraine for a while because it blows my head off. Isn't it amazing on the same day I read this other article and it takes 17 years on average to change anything in medicine. Yikes. That was 2006. That's 20 years hasn't filtered down yet. Boy, they buried that study and it was the biggest study ever in nutrition. I don't think they've ever done anything with that large since. Anyway, I got a lot of real good study on autoimmune. Let's do that tomorrow. Okay. Really interesting. Okay, guys. Thank you for coming online when you can. Okay? Remember, these are all turned into podcasts. Go on your smart device. Go to The Doctor Is In Podcast. Okay? I'm going to show it to you on my other device. You go to that. Okay. This is on my iPad. It's algorithms, how things operate online. And when you say you like it, they like it even more. Spotify or whatever. Okay. Guys, you know what I know? I know nothing. I just show up and during the day. Okay. But go and you can relisten to these. Okay. You can relisten to them and their title. I'm going to start emphasizing some of them that you can actually go to, but you can show your friends. So go listen to the on cholesterol. Go listen to this one. It'll be out in a few days. Take 17 years for medical evidence to get to the average doctor's office. Okay. What is Friday? It's Q&A. Always popular. Always, always popular. So Q&A is on Friday. Okay. I promise to breathe now. Okay. We love you. Talk to you soon.
