Announcer: You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.
Dr. Martin: Well, good morning everyone. How are you? Once again, welcome to another live this morning. Good to be on with you live. Okay, let me start with this before I get into some studies, okay? I listened to an interview on social media yesterday. It was a podcast actually. And this guy was a family doctor. Okay? Now, talk about think outside the box, okay, ordinarily of family doctors. I mean, this guy was different, big time. And listen to what he said. Okay? This is what he said during the interview. And like I said, I almost passed out. Okay? I almost passed out. He said, if everyone, and speaking specifically of his patients, but he said everyone would cut out sugar for just 30 days. 80% of their health complaints would disappear like magic, quoting. 80% of their health complaints would disappear like magic. That's the word he used. Just cut out sugar.
Now, where have you heard that before? That's what happens on the reset, by the way. Your 30 days, you're not having any sugar. Your body's switched fuels. And this guy said 80% of their health complaints would disappear like magic. Secondly, he said, "If everyone took 1,000, IUs vitamin D per..." Now this is important what he said, because he didn't just say take 1,000 IUs of vitamin D. That's for a mouse. And I like his equation. Okay? He said, "For every 25 pounds of body weight, take 1,000 IUs." You weigh 200 pounds, you're taking 8,000 IUs. Right? You like that? I like that, because that's what he said. Sun, steak, and steel. He said, okay, in the interview, if everyone would take 1,000 IUs for every 25 pounds of body weight, he said, "I would barely have any patients left in my office." Quote. I chuckled just because here's a family doctor, medical doctor saying what I've been saying for, it seems like a century.
Okay, so that was on cutout sugar, vitamin D. Thirdly, he said, "If everyone would take magnesium," he said, "Migraines," I'm just quoting him guys. "Migraines would be a thing of the past." That's what he said. Okay? Fourthly, he said, "If everyone took enough omega-3 daily, we would see half as many inflammatory conditions in my office." Omega-3. Yeah, and fifthly, he said, "If everyone of my patients would take care of their gut and restore their gut health, I would have to sell my SUV." I kind of chuckled when he said that. He said, "I wouldn't have enough patients to continue to pay for my SUV." Anyway, isn't that interesting, guys? Isn't that fascinating? Food, cut out sugar, if nothing else. Cut it out. You don't need it. Cut it out, or cut it way down. Vitamin D, big time. And magnesium, omega-3, probiotics. It's amazing. Anyway, I kind of found it interesting and really just caught my attention yesterday.
You know what, guys? I like the thinking. I'll tell you why. What we've done hasn't worked, okay? Hasn't worked. So it seems to me, why are we banging our head against the wall? And we continue to do it and expect different results. It doesn't make any sense to me. And I just like the idea that you got physicians who are finally tuning in. Look, drugs, hey, I'm not saying you never take a medication. You know me better than that. Medications are bandaids. It's a bandaid. I'm not saying don't take it. If you need it, you need an antibiotic, you won't hear me telling you not to take it. I'll tell you what to do to minimize the side effects of it, but I'm not against that. We sent out an email yesterday on blood pressure, and we talked about, okay, like blood pressure, what's the problem? Why do people have high blood pressure? Get to the root of it because we're just stating facts that blood pressure medication is a bandaid. It's a bandaid.
And I'm not saying you don't need band-aids at times, but get to the root cause of it. What's causing high blood pressure? And so I like this. I mean, the guy, when I listened to him, I said, "Well, he's being brutally honest about what he sees in his practice." And he said, "We have some solutions and they're not found in medications." Okay, might as well stick with magnesium. Here's a study. Study on magnesium, it shrinks plaques in arteries, magnesium, and they give the mechanism because magnesium is anti-inflammatory. Magnesium opens up your blood vessels. It makes them relax. That helps with plaque because it helps the body. Now, I like with plaque, I'm very big on vitamin K2, but I love magnesium. You guys know that. And it decreases your insulin and insulin resistance. Magnesium helps with that. Okay. That study. Okay, let me cross this off.
Target, the chain just announced that it stopped selling cereals with synthetic dyes. Now, if it was left to moi, you wouldn't be able to buy cereal. Now, I'm not ever thinking that that's going to happen. Okay? You know what I think about cereals? Not much. You don't need it. It was propaganda that started by Dr. Kellogg's, who was a medical doctor, but he was crazier than a hoot owl, a vegetarian. And Dr. Kellogg's, through him, they actually got the whole world stupid on cereal because he talked about animal products were not good for you. You need cereal and then fiber. You wonder where fiber came from? The word? Okay. Fiber's always been around guys. You eat fruits and vegetables. You got fiber in there, right? There's fiber in there. But he said, "Well, you're not getting enough fiber. You need cereal, Kellogg's Corn Flakes." Okay. Target just announced to stop to sell cereals with synthetic dyes. Well, there's a step. I'm happy about that. I'm a realist guy. Okay? I'm a realist.
If you took that family doctor that we just talked about, and we put them in front of a medical board, the Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons, let's say, they probably would take his license away, or they would slap his hand big time. You're giving out false information on sugar and vitamin D. Vitamin D can make you toxic and make you sick. So I'm a realist guys. Just the fact that we're taking synthetic dyes. I think I was looking at this the other day, a box of, I could be wrong on the cereal, guys. Okay? You know what I ussd to tell my patients? Tony the tiger is not great. When you eat fruit loops, you're going to have fruit loops in your brain. You don't want to be a fruit loop in your brain. Okay? That's what happens when you eat them. There's a heart on the box of cereals because if you eat them, you're going to get a heart attack. That's my opinion. Okay? But it's a start. At least get the dyes out of there. And like I said, I think it was Fruit Loops. I could be wrong about that. In Europe, and Fruit Loops in Europe have a different color because there's hardly any color compared to Fruit Loops sold in the US of A and Canada. Well, there's synthetic dyes there. Cereal's bad enough on its own, guys. You don't have to add synthetic dyes in there. Anyhoo. Anyhoo. Okay? What do you want me to say? At least it's a start. I'm happy. Not ecstatic, but I'm happy. It's a start.
Getting back to vitamin D. Okay? Two new studies. One on H pylori. You know what H pylori is? It's a bacteria in the stomach. And if it gets activated H pylori can cause ulcers. H-pylori can give you lots of problems in your gut. H pylori has been linked to gastric cancer, stomach cancer. I'm not sure about that in my mind, but that's all right. All I'm saying is if your vitamin D levels are good, and like I told someone the other day, vitamin D shouldn't be just good, it should be optimized. And it's one blood test for sure that you can count on. B12, I don't count on B12 blood tests too much because B12 belongs in your cells. What's in your blood. Look, I sort of have a secret sauce. When I talk about B12, when I look at numbers, it's sort of a secret sauce that I observed over the years when I looked at blood work for decades. And if you were between 800 and 1200 in B12, usually you were pretty good. But again, B12, the blood test is not accurate and not near as accurate as it should be, but vitamin D is accurate and you want to optimize your vitamin D.
And this one is saying, they looked at studies on serum levels of vitamin D and H pylori. And H pylori generally could not raise its ugly head when your vitamin D levels were good. Now, a lot of people, they got stomach problems and they find out that they have H pylori and then they take antibiotics. And again, I'm not saying never to do that. I'm not saying that. But I found in my practice, if I changed their diet and I got these people off sugar and their acidity in the stomach went up, that is a big key for H pylori because H pylori can't live in a very, very, very, very acidic stomach. And then you combine that with vitamin D, which boosts your immune system. Okay? Sticking to medications. Look, guys, all over the news, every day it's everywhere. I mean, you talk about designer drugs, these peptides, Wegovy, Wegavy, Ozempic. I call them designer drugs because they really got popular. Hey, they've been around for a long time, by the way, for diabetes. Okay? Did I like them then? But again, I'm a realist. Millions of people are using them.
But and there's a big but to this. I said it years ago. They've been popular now, what, four or five years? And I've been warning people, be careful what you wish for because there's going to be, you'll see boatload of side effects. Okay? So the other day I talked to you about the biggest litigation lawsuits against Wegovy, Ozempic, and other GLP-1 drugs. And the two of them were stomach paralysis and blindness. The two major lawsuits for Ozempic and Wegovy. And this one is saying another side effect. Here's new. I didn't know this. Another side effect of Wegovy, Wegavy, whatever you call V, and Ozempic is gout. Wow, side effect. Elevates your uric acid. Just bringing you the news, guys. Okay. Yeah. Another side effect. And remember, the average person who takes these medications, the GLP-1 medications, one year, and they stop. Why? Too many side effects. That's just a fact, guys.
Two, when you stop, the weight you lost will come back. Three, the weight you lose generally is not fat. It's muscle. Those are just facts, guys. And it's not calories in and calories out. That's yo-yo dieting. And these medications to some extent is yo-yo. Because if you stop, the weight comes back. And I discovered something many, many moons ago that people need to change fuel. They're running on the wrong fuel. That was the key. Not only to their health, but the key to weight loss is changing fuel. It's not calories. It's the bioavailability of food and the nutritional value of food. If you change fuels, and I'm resolute about that, constantly, constantly talking about that. Okay?
Another study. Let me see here. There's new research on sleep. Let me finish with this because it's new, but it's confirming something that my audience knows this, okay? Because I wrote books about this, and I wrote a book a couple of years ago, Sun, Steak, and Steel. And what was the other one? Sleep. And everything in this new study is in that book, Sun, Steak, and Steel and Sleep. But the new research on sleep is confirming this is found in neuroscience.com, is that sleep, okay, because I remember I had a buddy of mine, and he said this to me one time. Okay? Sleep is overrated. I chuckled with him. I said, "Man, I don't know how you get away with. Never sleeping or sleeping only a few hours at night. How do you do that? " And he said, "Well, sleep is overrated." Well when it comes to your health, when it comes to your brain, when it comes to your memory, when it comes to your immune system, sleep isn't overrated. It's underrated.
And the last 10 years or so, the world sort of pardoned my pun, waking up to the importance of sleep. Remember, guys, I had a radio show for 20 years. And I remember people calling in, chuckling when I talked to them about the importance of sleep physically, they sort of mocked that in terms of medical. Like, "Doc, what are you talking about? " I said, "Well, listen, sleep is really important because here's what we know today." And we've known for about five years, maybe a little bit longer than that. So in my early days, I knew sleep was important because I knew about what they said about the immune system especially. You don't sleep, your immune system goes way down. Your cortisol goes way up. Cortisol is up, you don't sleep. You don't sleep, your cortisol's up. What does cortisol do? Well, cortisol will elevate your blood sugar. Cortisol will elevate your blood pressure. Cortisol is on your side till it's not. But now we know, and we've known this for a bit, that you have a self-cleaning oven. This is what this study is confirming. Your brain has a self-cleaning oven. It only works when you sleep.
And this study goes on to say that the brain is an energy hog. Your mitochondria in your brain, and you got lots of them in your brain. They're energy producers, big time. You need a lot of energy. It's like, guys, I don't know if you've been following this at all, but I'm using a little analogy here. AI. Okay. I know nothing about AI. Tony Jr. he knows everything about AI. He deep dive sleeps. He says, "Dad, you won't believe it. Like what they're doing with AI and," and I'm always fascinated. I'm fascinated by it, but I don't know anything. But here's what we know about AI. It's coming. It's here. But you know what AI needs? Lots of energy. It needs its own electrical grid. It needs a lot of energy to operate. And that's a big problem. Your brain, anything you eat, 25% of it goes to your brain. You think food's important to your brain? And it'll take whatever you eat. But if you eat the wrong garbage, well, your brain will suffer from that. Anyway, that's another issue. Let's get back to sleep.
Because of energy and energy production, one thing I learned about energy is that it's got byproducts. It's got waste. What do you do with the waste? You've got a manufacturing plant in your brain. It's producing a lot of energy. You need that to operate properly. Well, one of the things it does is create a lot of waste products. You have a manufacturing plant? You got waste. What do you do with it? Well, your body knows what to do with it. And it's called your, you guys know this, your glymphatic system. Your brain actually has its own lymphatics. We didn't know that in school. I never learned that in the '70s. I knew about lymphatics, but I didn't know that the brain had its own. This study is confirming that. And your glial, okay? Your glial cells, they only work when you're sleeping. Your self-cleaning oven in your brain gets turned on when you're sleeping.
And this is important, not in this study, but I brought it to you in many other studies, and I ain't talking about sedation. Go for an operation. Okay? I talked to a friend of mine. Had a double hernia operation. They said they injected something in, and he was in la la land, and he woke up in recovery. I asked him, "How did you feel?" "Oh, I had such a good sleep. I just feel wonderful." No, no. For the next couple of days, he's walking around like a zombie because he was sedated. He didn't sleep. The self-cleaning oven wasn't turned on in his brain. He was sedated. And that's what a lot of people do. "Doc, I got to sleep." Yeah, but you're not sleeping. You're sedated and your brain's not going to clean itself out. And if it doesn't clean itself out, that debris is going to lead to major cognitive problems down the road, including Alzheimer's. This guys, I looked around to see if I could see it on mainstream media. Nope. Nope. The janitors come in at night, guys, only when you're sleeping. So you have to emphasize sleep. Sleep is not overrated. It's underrated.
Anyway, I got excited. Okay. Tomorrow, Q&A. Why? I haven't mixed up my days. Friday, I'm off. Okay? I don't like to do that, but I'm off Friday. Okay? So tomorrow, Q&A. Okay? So send your questions in, info@martinclinic.com. It'll be tomorrow morning. I love answering questions. Okay? I already got a question that someone sent to me on pericarditis. I'll make sure that it gets included. Okay? And ubiquinol. We'll talk about that. Okay, we love you guys. Talk to you soon.
