TRANSCRIPT OF TODAY'S EPISODE
Announcer: You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.
Dr. Martin: Well, good afternoon everyone. And once again, welcome to another live. Here we go, live on Facebook and soon to be podcast on The Doctor Is In Podcast. So guys, we always enjoy when you can join us live. Rare Monday afternoon time, rare. This week will be a little different. We'll make announcement as we get going. Let's get to our questions here. Okay. We didn't get all of them the other day. I think we're at Nelly's question. Nelly's asking a good question. I think you guys know me enough to know that. I feel sorry for vegetarians and vegans. I do. They've been sent down the road that's not good for them. And when I read about this and Nelly's saying, "Can you please talk about new moms that are vegetarians?" Okay. What they should be eating. Well, what they should be eating and what they are eating are two different things altogether. Okay? So I think you know that, Nelly.
You know what they should be eating? Eggs, meat, and cheese. That's what's good for them and that's what's good for the baby. I'm not saying you can't have vegetables. I'm not saying you can't have fruit, but you don't want to live on vegetables and fruit. And when you are a vegetarian, the baby is just not going to get everything it needs. It's just not. So you're asking, "Well, what should they eat?" Well, now you know that's what they should eat. What they will eat, that's another thing. I saw hundreds and hundreds of vegetarians and vegans in my practice. I tried to convince them. I said, "Well, listen, I'm very opinionated. Okay? If you don't know me, I'm very opinionated. But you came to see me in my practice. Now I'm going to tell you that you're making a big mistake. Now, you might not like to hear that. You're making a big mistake because only in the animal kingdom are you going to get complete nutrition. It's not found in the plant kingdom.
Now, there's some good things in plants. I'm not saying that, but it's not complete. First of all, your bioavailability of certain key, key nutrients are just missing. So you can believe the propaganda. I hate this in a way because I don't use the word follow the science much. You don't hear me say it because scientists have abused that. Okay? Follow the science. They have abused it. What science? But my background is nutrition, clinical nutrition. And I can tell you in the very basics of nutrition, in a vegetarian diet is far, far from complete and so even worse in a vegan diet. It's just far from complete. You're not going to get the heme iron you need. You can get iron, but you're not going to get H-E-M-E iron. You just can't. You're not going to get B12. You just can't. B12 is an essential vitamin. You're certainly not going to get vitamin, look, the best way to get vitamin D is from the sun, but there are a lot of Inuit and whatever tribes, they get vitamin D, but they get it from their food. If you're going to get vitamin D from food, you better be on a lot of fat, organ meat, otherwise you're not getting that, right, it's not in vegetable.
So if you can convince someone. I've done it. I've had patients leave my office. And because of the deficiencies I saw in them, I said, well, you're believing propaganda, not what's true in nutritional advice. I'm going to give you some advice. It's up to you whether you accept it or not. It's up to you whether you implement it or not. It's not up to me, it's up to you. But I'm consistent. I've been an animal kingdom guy since, I don't know when. Consistent, consistent, consistent. Eggs, meat, and cheese. Dairy. Don't ditch dairy. Switch dairy. I don't care if you're drinking milk. I really don't care for milk, but I sure care for dairy. Butter. Cream. Okay. So good question. I would just say to you, Nelly, if she's supplementing or at least she wants to supplement, there are some things like I said, the iron, the B12, the vitamin D, absolutely essential that she get on that. Okay?
Claude. "I take antibiotics for a tooth infection. Does it matter whether take them with food?" Well, most antibiotic, not all, but most antibiotics, they actually recommend you take it with food. Why? Because it's going to upset your stomach. And I'll tell you what, Claude, make sure 100% for sure you're taking probiotics with your antibiotic. You don't have to take them at the same time, but I'm not big on that so much. I just want you to take them. And I'd actually double up your dose of probiotics. If you're taking an antibiotic, you absolutely need probiotic. Okay? And yeah, probably better to take the antibiotic with food because most antibiotics will bother your stomach. And they'll wipe out all your good bacteria. So make sure clothe, you're taking care of that. Okay?
June, "I heard you say you like flax." I do. You're not a squirrel. You're not a chipmunk, but I love flax seeds. And I have a reason to love flaxseeds because flax seeds contain a very, very important ingredient called lignans. L-I-G-N-A-N-S. Lignans. And lignans are really, really good to block extra estrogen and xenoestrogens. Remember, we live in a toxic soup. You do and I do. No exceptions. "Well, Dr. Martin, I don't use plastic bottles. I don't do anything." I know, but you're still living a toxic soup. It's everywhere. It's in the water. It's in the air. It's in the soil. Okay? Organic, I don't care. Like beautiful. I love organic. But you can run, but you can't hide from the residue of pesticides, microplastics, chemicals, and they all elevate estrogen because they're xenoestrogens. They look like estrogen to your body. And flaxseeds are tremendous, unlike any other seed. Okay?
So June says, "I make little breads with ground flax I keep in my freezer." Well, June, I'm not telling you not to have bread, okay? It's just that man shall not live by bread alone and I mean it because we live in a day and age that be careful with your breads, okay? Because it just turns into sugar rapidly. But anyway, you're not asking me that. You're asking me about flax seeds. And I'm sorry, your doctor is wrong to say that flaxseeds are dangerous. They're far from dangerous. They're good for you. And by the way, have I been consistent about that? Yeah. And I understand. Look, they'll say, "well, you see, flax is a phytoestrogen. You're actually elevating estrogen, Dr. Martin." Nah, you're not. Okay? You're not elevating estrogen.
And you're actually blocking extra estrogen. Okay? I love dim for that. Dim is in broccoli, but it's an extract. You have to eat two bushels of broccoli to get what you get in dim. We put in our hormonal formula and our menopausal formula. But I love flaxseed. Flax seed is tremendous. Men should take it and lower their estrogen. It's really good for them and women should be taking flaxseed. It's very good. Okay? Oh, the doctor said that it can affect the thyroid pill. Nonsense. I've never seen that. It's the first time I've ever heard of it, unless he's talking about estrogen affecting the thyroid. Okay. I guess that's possible. But it's not elevating your estrogen. It's diminishing extra estrogen. Look, you need estrogen, but you don't want extra estrogen. That's the problem with prostate cancer. That's the problem with breast cancer. That's the problem with ovarian cancer. That's the problem with the uterine cancer. There's too much estrogen. It's too much estrogen in the world.
Another doctor, June, you are listening to lots of doctors. Put cold pressed olive oil in the same boat as all other oils, saying oil is oil. But what did he say about it? Okay, June, I'm only reading what was given me here. Another doctor put cold press olive oil in the same boat as all other oils, saying oil is oil. Meaning it's good or it's bad. You need to clarify that for me, June. What did the doctor say? That olive oil is not good for you or is good for you? I like olive oil. I told you that. Many a time I like olive oil. Olive oil is good for you. So is bacon because bacon has the same oil. Oleic acid. That's what makes olive oil so good for you. And it should be cold press. Absolutely. Cold press. There's better olive oils. And it was a real scandal within the olive oil industry a few years ago when they found out a lot of olive oils was sort of a mixture. They were mixing vegetable oils with olive oil, okay? Okay, that was June. And June just let me know what they thought. Was the doctor saying the olive oil was good or bad? I don't know what you're saying here. And olive oil, look, olive oil's a good oil. Compared to vegetable oil, like canola oil. Terrible oil. Safflower oil. Terrible oil. Sunflower oil. Terrible oil. Okay. That was June.
Theresa. "About a month ago, my toes started to ache during physical activity. Why?" Theresa, I don't know. Look, you might be, and if it's only during physical activity, I doubt even what I'm going to say right now. If it's only bothering you during physical activity, you say it's not your shoes, but your arches might be flattening out and it's just coincidence that on the timing of it, you might think it's not your shoes at all. But if they're not bothering you at any other time, other than physical activity, your toes are not bothering you. Like you see, when someone tells me, look, my toes are starting to bother me. My feet hurt. They didn't hurt before. Well, structurally, I used to look at arches. I used to look for a neuropathy, pain a lot of times in toes. I saw it in patients that I had no idea that they were diabetics and they were starting to get diabetic neuropathy. Is it possible Theresa? I don't know. I don't have enough information. But if it's only during activity, maybe starting, and if it's all your toes, I don't think so. You might be starting some osteoarthritis. I'm more suspicious that it's an arch problem. Your metatarsal arch. I need more information to give you a better answer than that, Theresa.
Okay, Pierette. Five years ago, she purchased a mineralized water filtration system called Sentivia to regulate pH levels in the water. Okay? So what changes the pH in the water? Minerals. That's why when you get spring water, you'll have an alkaline water. That's why I love spring water. But this is really important to understand this. Okay? When you drink water, it is not going to change the acidity in your stomach. Water doesn't stay in your stomach very long at all. Remember, water's got a root to your blood because that's why it's so important. Of course, water flushes. Water is really good for the bowel. It's really good for peristalsis. It's really good for hydration. It's really good. You know me and vitamin W water. Now, you're asking the question about the filtering machines and you're filtering your water. I like filtered water in this sense. If you want to get the pH way up, what is that going to do for you? Not much.
Look, water should be alkaline, but the biggest thing in water is to get all the impurities out of it, the toxins out of water. Get the fluoride out of water. That kind of stuff. That's what I look for. And so when you get a spring water, well, you don't have the toxins in it if it comes from a natural source. It's the way water should be drunk. But if you've got a machine and it filters out the toxins and remineralizes your water to some extent, I got no problem with that. Okay? I know a lot of people ask me about osmosis, reverse osmosis water. Well, it gets rid of a lot of impurities in the water. That's what I want. And I would add a touch of salt because unless it's remineralizing, you're not going to get enough minerals in the water, which I like, which is nature's water, mineralized water. Okay? Thank you for the question. And that was Pierette. Don't shoot your machine out. You paid for it.
Okay. Lucille. "What are my thoughts on fermented foods like sauerkraut?" Love it. Good for you. Fermented foods are very good for you. It's not that I have no problem with it. It's very good for you. You like it? Yeah. Just remember this. You're not going to get a broad spectrum. Look, today you have the ability to get a broad spectrum probiotic. You can get them in a capsule. You just can't eat enough sauerkraut to get you what a capsule will do. And you guys know me. When I want you to eat something, I tell you to eat it. Like you don't hear me talking about vitamin A in terms of, well, take it as a supplement. I mean, you could, but you hear me tell you, eat vitamin A. Eat steak, you get vitamin A. You see? I want you to eat stuff. So sauerkraut, I want you to eat it. If you love fermented foods, fermented foods are good for you. Absolutely they're good for you. Okay? But you're not getting a broad spectrum probiotic, and that's why I want people to supplement. I mean that. Okay? Thanks for the question, Lucille.
Kim. "Dr. Martin, how do you feel about your treatment for someone with autoimmune gastritis?" Okay, I think I've seen that a few times. "I take 12 injections and they help." So what should I do to be healthy? Well, that's a good question. Complicated in terms of gastritis. Look, I mean, I'm just trying to think food wise. I think, Kim, you got to sort of be Dr. Kim. You got to figure out what you do well with and what you don't. You got to figure out within autoimmune gastritis, I would certainly have you on probiotics. I would have you on curcumin, a natural anti-inflammatory. I would have you on quercetin because that is a natural anti-histamine in autoimmune. I'd have you on vitamin D, probably somewhere between eight to 10,000 IUs a day in autoimmune, fix the leaky gut. You probably have fungus or candida coming out the wazoo. Okay? So all of those things above, Kim.
Nancy, last question. We're going to get done with the Q&A. "What would you recommend for a 53-year-old male who's got low testosterone?" Join the cast of millions of men that have low testosterone. So before I answer the rest of your question, let me stop right with the testosterone. Dim. Get the estrogen down. You want to elevate testosterone? Start by getting the estrogen out of the body as much as you can. Flax seeds. Dim, dim it out. And I've never seen a case of low testosterone where they usually didn't have low vitamin D with it. Vitamin D, the sun. Sun, steak, and steel. Remember the book? I have it right in front of me. Sun, Steak, and Steel available in Canada. Okay. So what do you do? Sun, steak, and steel.
What else were you asking? Okay. He's getting shots of testosterone. Okay. Fatty liver. Okay. Well, there you go, Nancy. We talked about testosterone. Let's talk fatty liver. You know what to do? Empty the liver. Steak. Eggs. Cheese. Lay off the carbs. Lay off the sugars. Lay off the breads. You can't even have flaxbread. Okay. Too much iron. Yep. He's got hemochromatosis. What does that mean? Fatty liver often does that. Trouble with the liver, trouble with insulin. Lower the insulin. And fatty liver, simple. Sugar fills your liver with fat, especially drinks and lay off the booze too. Okay? And high blood pressure, high triglycerides. Yep, yep, yep, yep, yep. Metabolic syndrome. Start with the diet. Big time. Start with the diet. Empty that liver and watch how much better the testosterone gets. Should be around 10,000 IUs of vitamin D every day. Okay? Taking beef liver supplements and that. The triglycerides will come down when the liver empties.
Okay, that's it. We got done. Okay, so guess what, guys? Tomorrow, another afternoon session. This week's funny. Okay? And we'll post this for you on our private Facebook group. But afternoon session tomorrow, Wednesday morning, Thursday morning. And then I'm off on Friday. That's the plan this week. So we'll do Q&A on Thursday. That's the plan. Subject to change. Well, hopefully not, but that's the plan thus far. Okay? So tomorrow, again, afternoon, we'll post it to remind you. Okay, guys, we love you. We'll talk to you soon.
