Dr. Martin answers questions sent in by our listeners in today's episode.

TRANSCRIPT OF TODAY'S EPISODE

Announcer:  You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.

Dr. Martin:  Well, good morning everyone. And how are you? And once again, welcome to another live this morning, Q and A. Okay, always fun. Here we go. Dave is asking, "What are your thoughts, Dr. Martin, on aged garlic extract and its use in lowering high blood pressure?" Listen, Dave, first of all, I got no problem with that. It's not in my toolbox. Okay, for blood pressure, not that I didn't have patients try it. I got no problem with aged garlic at all. I just found things to be more effective than that, Dave. So it wasn't part of my toolbox, but I certainly have no problem with people that want to take that as a supplement aged garlic. I really don't. Okay?

They used it too for lowering cholesterol. I don't know why they wanted to lower cholesterol, but no, I got no problem with it at all, Dave. It was not part of my toolbox because I like Navitol for blood pressure much better because Navitol is everything blood flow. And the research behind it, including for high blood pressure, is unreal. And so for me, it was my go-to. And I like high DHA for high blood pressure too, because you're lubricating blood vessel. Okay? You're making them more slippery. The slipperier that endothelial layer of your blood vessels, the Teflon layer of your blood vessels is, the better it is. Okay? So my go-to was more with Navitol, Dave, but no problem at all.

Lise, hey, I got two questions this morning on polycythemia, which is thickening of the blood. Red blood cell. The count of the red blood cells is really high. And the blood becomes like molasses. It's thick as molasses. Can be very serious, obviously. So Lise is asking and she's taking a pill. Yep. And her platelets are high. Can she spend some time in the sun? I'm trying to think of that medication. Yeah, listen, I don't think there's any issue with it. The sun's so good for you that unless you have lupus, I'd never stay out of the sun. Okay? If you got lupus, you take vitamin D as a supplement, but that's so rare, by the way. And I mean, not that I haven't seen lupus before, but you know what? Don't stay out of the sun.

Now, the second part, and I'll get a little more detail because Ingrid is asking about her husband. Suddenly, he has high blood pressure. Blood work is thick as molasses, and he's been diagnosed with polycythemia. Now, there are two types. Well, there's more than two. Polycythemia vera, V-E-R-A, is a cancer of the blood. Now, I'm not assuming that either one of these people, Ingrid, and the doctors put them on the same pill that Lise's friend has been put on. And one of the things they do is they put you on a blood thinner because they want to thin the blood out, thin the platelets out. And to some extent, thin those red blood cells out. There's a lot of side effects to blood thinner, like internal bleeding. And you got to be very, very careful with that.

And it lowers the ability of bone marrow to make red blood cells. Yeah, they want to lower your red blood cell count. And it's a pretty powerful medication. I can't tell you if you've been diagnosed with polycythemia not to take a medication. I won't do that. What I will do is tell you, along with the medication, minimize the side effects. That's why I would have that person on Navitol. I would have that person on probiotics. I would have that person drinking 64 ounces or two liters of water a day for sure to help with blood flow. And probably high DHA too. So good for you. But probiotics absolutely to minimize the side effects of the medication. So that was Lise and that was Ingrid.

Carolyn's asking about a friend who is suffering debilitating headaches, has a small brain aneurysm. Okay. So you want to do, Carolyn, everything possible for blood vessels in the brain. And again, the brain is made up of DHA. So your best oil, the best omega-3 is DHA omega-3. You want that because your brain's made up of that particular fat. And it's very anti-inflammatory and it's very good for blood vessels. And again, I combine that with something all about blood flow, Navitol. It's all about blood flow. You want to know what Navitol does? Think of blood flow because it helps with circulation everywhere, including the brain. And it's got a protective mechanism to it because it's a powerful antioxidant. So in an aneurysm, you want to be able to protect the blood vessels, the bulge there. That's what an aneurysm is. And so those would be my go- tos right there, big time. Okay? And that was Carolyn.

Joe, "can you go into more detail about coffee?" Joe? Coffee, what is that? Never heard of it. Joe, in his question, is worried about he's drinking too much coffee and not enough water, from what I read that. Okay, well look, here's the sweet spot for coffee. And I know this after 50 years in practice, guys. And guess what? The research confirms what I knew clinically in practice. Like I always told people, I'm not a researcher. I let other people do research. I was a clinician. I had people, real people, real patients in my office for a lot of years. And most of what I'm telling you, although I do talk about research a lot, don't I? Right? Other people do the research, I report on it. Okay? Good, bad, and ugly.

But what I give you, I think, is an advantage. Okay? That's what I think. Is I was in a clinic setting. I had real patients with real problems. And I can tell you, the sweet spot I used to tell my patients this is four cups of coffee a day. Okay? I wouldn't go over that too much. You could go under, I guess, but the sweet spot on coffee and the research is confirming that. It's about four cups of coffee a day. Okay? Now, water, Joe, 64 ounces. That's the sweet spot. Some people drink more than that. You big sweater like sweat. Okay. Not a sweater. Well, you wear a sweater, but a lot of people sweat a lot. You need more water. Okay? You need more water.

And Joe says, "And I've read that coffee is a diuretic." No, it's not. Okay, Joe, I tried to put that to bed for 50 years. It is not a diuretic. Look, you got to drink water. When I put people on the reset, it's water and coffee. I don't want to talk about anything else. Don't drink anything else. For 30 days, just listen to me. Okay. You don't drink coffee. You like tea. I feel sorry for you. Okay. You can have a tea. Okay? But I know coffee's better than tea for you. It's not close, guys. In terms of what it does for you, okay? It's the real vitamin C, Joe. And I ain't kidding when I tell you that. It's a gift. You love coffee, Joe, obviously. It's a gift. Look at it as a gift. Be thankful. A lot of times, if you could have that, don't have this. Don't have too much of that. And it's don't, don't, don't, don't, don't. Well, there's one thing I want you to do, and that is drink coffee because it's so good for you.

And I tell you guys, I was like John the Baptist in the wilderness preaching that 50 years ago. When I went to school, they were telling me coffee was acidic. When I went to school, they told me coffee was a diuretic. When I went to school, they said, eh, they got to be easy. And it's a drug. The caffeine, it's a drug and you can get hooked and it's no good for you. And I pushed back on that. And now we got, what, 300 studies, probably more on the importance of coffee. Okay? So I'm not backing down. I'm doubling now. So Joe, drink water, make sure you get enough of it. Okay? And there ain't anybody on the planet that doesn't need water.

And then you get a lot of doctors and gurus out there. Well, you get water when you eat water melon. You get water, Dr. Martin, because 95% of coffee is water. Okay? And I always tell them, "Well, look, only water is water." And water, when you drink it, takes a villa for your blood. It don't pass go. It immediately is absorbed because it has its own root to your bloodstream because your body knows it needs water. You're like planet earth. 75% of planet earth is water and so is your body. And you got blood vessels. We just talked about polycythemia, which is thickening of the blood. And a lot of people, they don't necessarily have polycythemia, too many red blood cells or whatever, but they got a problem that they don't drink enough water and they don't have a light on top of their head to tell them to drink more.

I met tens of thousands of people that had blood as thick as molasses in my office. And I said, "You're making a big mistake. I don't like water, Dr. Martin." Well, I don't care if you don't like it, you need it and you will thank me later when you develop a habit of drinking 64 ounces or two liters of water a day. Trust me. Trust me. I know what I'm talking about. And like I said, I hear the guru, "Oh, water. It's overrated." And somebody asks, "Let me get it. I'll get it. I think who asked me? " Sherry is asking, "Is it possible to drink too much water?" Yeah, it's possible. Okay. Sherry, it's possible. But 99.9% of the population, if they have trouble with water, it's because they don't drink enough of it. And then you get one fraction of a percentage point of people that drink too much water.

First of all, it can happen, but I don't like talking about it too much because it's a rare exception. I've heard of people dying. They're running a marathon, which I don't agree with, first of all. But a few of them, they drank too much water and they died. Okay? But that's such a rare exception. I don't want to talk about it. There's a couple of people every year probably on the planet that drank too much water and died. Holy smokes. And there's tens of millions of people that are dehydrated and they get a heart attack because they're dehydrated. Their blood's so thick. Anyway, I got excited. Okay. Let's see. I don't want to miss anybody.

Justin, now you're going to give me a migraine, Justin, because Justin says, "What is it? The Prostate Cancer Foundation regarding high fat dairy increases prostate cancer." Do you see the migraine I'm getting, Justin? You just gave me, not that it's your fault, but because I had to read something stupid, high fat dairy causes prostate cancer. No, don't. Never has and never will. But they'll never say it because they're too stupid is that what causes cancer is sugar. Not fat. Not dairy fat. Dairy fat is very, very, very good for you. Think of cream. Think of butter. That dairy fat. Okay? It's good for you. And here's what I say. They're saturated stupid because dairy fat is saturated, okay, says the Prostate Cancer Foundation. Justin, I'm sorry. It's a migraine that I get. Why? Because it's stupid.

You want to prevent cancer? Have high fat dairy. Don't ditch dairy. Switch dairy. I don't want you drinking milk unless you got a cow in the backyard. Somebody was asking about A2 milk the other day. Well, why do you want to drink it in the first place? Why do you got to have milk? Okay. You're not a calf. A calf has a little bit of milk and then it starts eating grass like the rest of the cows. Guys, you don't need milk. Now, like I said, if you got a cow in the backyard and you got full fat milk, full fat, drink it. Okay? But you know me, I'm big on drink water and drink coffee and eat high fat dairy. Eat it. Thank you, Justin. My headache just went away because I was able to pontificate.

Dorothy. Magnesium cream. Massage therapists like it. Yeah, I know that. Yeah, I got no problem with magnesium cream. You rub it in and you can rub it on your legs. And magnesium, you know me, I love magnesium. It's a relax. Think of magnesium. Think of the word relax. It's good for your muscles. It makes them relax. You want to get magnesium cream? No problem. No problem at all. You want to take magnesium in the bath? Take Epsom salt bath. Tremendous. Do I like that? Love it. I love magnesium. Got no problem with it. Okay. That was Dorothy.

Brenda, "COPD, can it be reversed?" I can think of maybe two cases that I saw over the years of COPD, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease that got better. Reverse completely. Maybe I saw one. I don't know. But get your lungs. I mean, the best thing, vitamin D for your lungs. Vitamin D is so good for your lungs. Quercetin is so good for your lungs. Navitol and quercetin, I put them together. I like combos. Curcumin. Really, really good. Okay? Anti-inflammatory. So regeneration, quercetin for lungs. And to what extent depends on the damage. That was Brenda.

Laura. Okay couple more here, guys. I don't think we'll finish today. "I am dealing with an absorption problem." Okay. A lot of her skin issues, she says is postmenopausal is triggered by, yeah, you got Laura horror-mones. Don't give up. Don't give up. And remember, okay, hormones, yep, can be a big factor, but you got leaky gut. There's no way you got any kind of eczema, psoriasis, or anything else without leaky gut. And for some people, okay, Laura, leaky gut is a very, very difficult thing to completely get rid of. You've probably got more yeast in your body than you think. Okay? Lots of fungus. I can almost guarantee it. So you just got to stay the course. Don't feed it. Don't feed the bears. Cut out your sugars. Cut out your breads. Cut out your noodles. Probiotics. Digestive enzymes. Do everything you can to fix that leaky gut. Bone broth with L-glutamine. I love that. It's the best protein in the world is bone broth, collagen protein. Okay? But don't give up. Don't give up. Okay? And make sure you're on dim if you got a lot of problems there. I'd have you on the menopausal formula. If you were in my clinic.

Helen, someone with squamous cell carcinoma. Okay? Well, look, the worst of all skin cancers is melanoma. You have basal cell carcinoma. And squamous cell is more serious usually than the basal cell, but it's not as bad as melanoma. And I mean, are they going to do some surgery to take out the spot, the cancer? But look, any kind of cancer, make sure your vitamin D levels are up there. Okay? Always check, and it's worth checking the vitamin D, but that's really important because your immune system don't work without it. You want to be fighting this cancer. Cut out the sugar. Okay? One thing we know, sugar feeds cancer and there's no doubt about it. And high DHA destroys tumors. Okay? So I'd have you on that. And like I said, food is very, very, very important. Okay? I'd have you on because there's probably fungus involved. I'm big on yeast. You guys know that. A lot of people are bigger on parasites. I'm bigger on fungus because it spreads. It's yeast. It makes things grow. And I would kill the fungus in the body for sure. Make sure. Okay? Leaky gut. Okay. That was Helen.

I'm only going to take, I think, one more question today because I got to go. I got to go. Okay. I'm traveling today. Okay? We'll make a little announcement in a second. Terry, Terry about tinnitus. Okay, let's close with this one. Tinnitus, ringing in the ears, no fun at all. Okay? Now, this worked in about 30, 40% of my patients with chronic tinnitus. Okay? B12 with Navitol. I used to combine the two, but you do that for one month. If that doesn't help your tinnitus, not going to help in the second month. Now, B12's good for you anyways. Navitol is good for you. Anyways, you can continue using it. There's no problem. Think blood flow. In the ear, I don't care where it is. You got micro circulation there. And that's what I'm always talking about Navitol. Why do I do that? Because of blood flow. Wherever you have blood, Navitol helps because it helps with blood flow. There's no product like it that elevates nitric oxide blood flow to brain, the middle ear, tinnitus. B12, it's a nerve thing because you got nerves in the ear.

And B12, I've seen that so many times where patients were low in B12. They had no idea. No one told them. The blood work is a hundred years old. They don't even look at it anymore. B12 used to be an important vitamin for doctors in the 1950s. And then by the time they got to the 60s and the 70, forgot about it. I learned all about B12 in school, how important it was. And then nobody's using it. They used to give B12 shots. Doctors had B12 shots in their doctor's bag. Remember a doctor's bag? So guys, we'll leave it at that. Okay? Announcement next week. Okay? Monday, Tuesday afternoon sessions. Why? I'm traveling. Okay, guys. We love you. We'll talk to you soon.
