Dr. Martin: Well, good morning everyone. And once again, welcome to another live this morning. We thank you for coming on as you get your notifications here this morning. Got a lot of new studies I want to look at this week and talk about and give some information out. And guys, thanks for joining us when you can live. We appreciate that. Okay, let's get to a few studies. I want to talk about this one, okay? It was a very small study. Let me just read it to you here. I have to get my notes. This was done by the scientists at University of California, San Francisco Division. They took 43 obese kids who had already. Okay, so they did what I used to do in my office, and that's metabolic testing.
So they did that, and these kids, 43 of them, they had metabolic syndrome. They had on ultrasound fatty liver. They had high triglycerides. Looking at the right cholesterol numbers. Okay? You know what you're interested in, the lipids? What these folks were interested in? Your triglycerides, your HDL, they measured all that. Imagining kids, triglycerides were elevated. HDL was low. Teter-totter. They had early signs of high blood pressure. Here's what they did. Okay? It surprised the researchers. All they did, they took them off sugars. No sugar. They had the same amount of calories. They just no added sugar. In nine days, 20% decrease of fatty liver in these kids, in nine days.
Now, what do I tell you? In six days, you can empty your liver. They found 20% improvement in the liver, fatty liver. Insulin levels dropped dramatically. Decreased triglycerides, decreased blood pressure, increased HDL cholesterol. Here's the quote to the study. Surprised researchers. They were surprised. They didn't think anything could happen that fast. Just eliminating sugar. Imagine if they were on the reset? I used to tell my patients all the time, "If you did nothing else and just got rid of sugar," added sugar, read labels, no added sugars. It's as shocking how much better you will get. How much better your inflammation gets. How much better every sign of metabolic syndrome gets. What happens in your liver? It's amazing. And it happens quickly. I used to tell my patients if they were going on the reset especially. I said, just the fact that you're not going to be eating sugar for 30 days, your body will have a huge regenerative effect. It's amazing. It's surprised researchers. It surprised them.
Yeah, 1950s, when I was a kid, 25 pounds of sugar a year. That's a lot of sugar. You've seen a 25 pound bag? That's a lot of sugar, but that's what we were eating on average. Okay? My four kids were all born in the 70s. Okay? That's why I got grandchildren and great-grandchildren. All my four kids were born in the 70s. They were, okay, North Americans were consuming 50 pounds of sugar a year. Went from 25 when I was a kid to 50. And today, one of my grandchildren consuming, not them, hopefully. But on average, it's a dump truck load. It's near 200 pounds. It's in everything. Someone said on our site and actually someone sent me a picture. Table salt has got sugar in it. What do you got to add sugar to salt for? And table salt, not real salt anyway. But guys, it's in everything. The food industry. These poor kids.
You know my saying? If we all took off, not all of us, but you and I. We took off in the 1970s. Pretend that Elon Musk brought us to Mars. We flew out to Mars and then we came back in 2026. We would be shocked. What happened? Why are kids so big? Why are everybody look at them like they puffed up like balloons? What happened? What changes occurred? Well, it's the amount of sugar. And then the food industry. The liars liars pants on fires people, and the addiction industry from tobacco. They invented a new sugar. They invented it in a lab. High fructose corn syrup. And I've been screaming since the 1980s about that sugar, because that's when it was invented. They changed Pepsi, Coca-Cola. They went from sugar to high fructose corn syrup. That's what's put in soda.
And look at the results because fructose, remember, packs up the liver. And when the liver gets full, your body makes fat. It has to make more parking spots for fructose. So what does it do? More and more and more fat is packed onto the body. And you see it. You don't have to be a rocket scient. You don't have to be a rocket scientist. You just look, observe. Look at the size. Go to the mall. Holy smokes. Right? Well, removing sugar for nine days. I always used to say patients. You know me and my saying. You'll thank me later. For the rest of your life, you will now read labels. You're going to be a sugar detector. You're going to be a detective. Here's your badge. Watch. Look at labels. Look at food. You'll be surprised. Okay? You'll be surprised.
And the worst thing they did, of course, the worst thing they did is they put that high fructose corn syrup in drinks. The worst thing you can do is drink that stuff. It takes a beeline for your liver so fast. And like I said, when the body gets full of fat in the liver, the body starts making. Well, first of all, here's how dangerous it is for your heart. Liver to heart. It's got to empty the liver one way or another. It makes fat cells and packs them around the liver and the visceral organs. Pancreas, heart, bowel. It just packs on that fat. And then it sends triglycerides into the bloodstream. And then us geniuses. Man, what do we do? Oh, cholesterol is the problem with heart disease. Let's lower cholesterol. How stupid? It's not cholesterol. It's triglycerides.
And when your triglycerides are high, your HDL cholesterol, your FedEx trucks, your Amazon trucks got two trailers on the back. One, to bring your hormones. Oh, and we wonder why people have so much trouble with hormones. And the second trailer is to pick up those triglycerides and bring them back to the liver to process them and get rid of the triglycerides. And they don't even look at that for heart disease. But that's the key. What we have been doing is a crime against humanity, a crime against children who don't know any better. And I'll scream, guys, til the cows come home about the dangers of added sugar, especially the high fructose corn syrup and drinking it, especially.
Amazing what happens. This study, guys, was a small study. Only 43 kids. Doesn't matter in that sense. Look, you've got to do more research. I know that. But guys, if the University of California in San Francisco had called me, I would have told them what was going to happen ahead of time when you eliminate sugar in kids. I would have told them. Call me. I would have told you.
When I got kids, and kids are smart, when I had kids in my office and their brains were out of control, I used to talk to them, say, "Man, you know your breakfast in the morning? Let's start there." And they'd look at me and I say, "Okay, let's start there. You know why you're always in trouble? You know why your brain runs around like a two pea?" "Why, Dr. Martin? Why, doc?" I said," Listen, son. Listen, little girl. It's the sugar. It's your fruit loops. It's your frosted flakes. It's your juice. It's your juice boxes. It's your granola bar. That's what's doing it to you." So I didn't say this would be easy. "Are you ready to cut back?" I don't know how many thousands of kids over the years I had a little chat with and gave them nutrition 101. It didn't even have to get into the weeds, guys. Just tell them something simple like sugar and don't drink it. No more soda. Got it?
Anyway, I saw this study and I, wow. I said, you know what? Is there still hope for these poor kids? Is there still hope for them? Okay? I believe there is. And it's not that complicated. I didn't say it was easy, but it's not complicated. Oh, the body responds rapidly to this. And then you get adults that are doing the reset and adults find out, man oh man, Dr. Martin, I didn't realize how much of a carboholic I was and a sugarholic I was. Yeah, you were. And it is toxic and it is addictive like nobody's business. It was meant to be addictive. The food industry is not your friend. They really are not. Okay. Removing sugar for nine days. Scientists at the University of California, San Francisco, 43 obese kids who already had high blood pressure, high triglycerides, low HDL, early fatty liver, not restricting calories. All they did was take the sugar out of their diets. My word. Hello? Hello?
Okay, let me see. This sort of hit me because we talk about this quite a bit, okay? Glyphosphate, or Roundup. Man, it's worse than we thought, guys. You can't get away from it, by the way. Okay? A friend of mine went to Costa Rica for the winter, okay? A good friend of mine, a colleague of mine. Okay? But I always say, I don't care if you go to Costa Rica. You ain't getting rid of what is in the air, water, and soil, but let me give you something. Okay? 80% of North Americans, listen to this, have Roundup or glyphosate in their urine. Folks, you never get anything in your urine that wasn't in your body first. Okay? 80%. Okay, and four billion pounds. Okay, I want to get this right. Four billion pounds a year are poured into our water, soil, and air. Yikes. When I read this, I said yikes. Okay? Yikes.
And again, I'm going to tie this with another study that talks about, let me get to it. Oh yeah, here it is. You know what the worst is in terms of food for finding glyphosate in food? Fruits and vegetables and grains, and it's not even close. 99.5% of microplastic intake and glyphosate Roundup intake is 60,000 microplastics a day the average person consumes. What? 60,000. A little microplastic. They're so small. It's not like you can see it, okay? Like with your naked eye. But guys, this is craziness. But again, it reminds me to preach to you guys on the importance. Now I'm getting back to the liver again. Is there anybody that you've ever heard talk more about the liver than me? I always talk about the liver because it's sort of the Rodney Dangerfield of your body. Unless it's disease, don't talk about it.
One, when I was in school in the 1970s, studying, no, zero, nada, yet talk of fatty liver. Never heard of it. I heard of a cirrhosis of the liver, but never fatty liver. Not once. Okay? Not once. Guys, since you and I, everybody, including Costa Rica, okay? You can't get away from it. The Roundup, the microplastics, you can't get away from it. So I'm not telling you you shouldn't try and minimize it in your home and what you can do. I'm not saying don't minimize it. Of course, minimize it, but you're not getting away from it. Thus, this is my important point that's really important, guys. Take care of your liver primarily. Why? Because if your liver is empty, if it's empty of fat, your liver primarily is a huge component of detoxification in your body.
Because people ask me all the time, "Dr. Martin, should I do a cleanse?" Yes and no. What do you want to cleanse? My bowel. Don't waste your time. Okay? That was my answer. Compared to cleaning your liver, keep your liver clean. Keep it clean by eliminating sugar, especially high fructose corn syrup. Keep it clean. If you keep your liver clean, your liver produces. Well, it does 600 things, first of all. But one of the biggest things it does in terms of detoxification is glutathione. It produces it. It's Velcro for your blood. Everything's got to go through the liver. And the Velcro takes out the microplastics. It takes out the garbage. Okay? Anybody here have to take the garbage out? That's what your liver does. It doesn't get a lot of ink unless it's sick. But it's so important, not only for your heart, triglycerides.
But for glutathione, it's Velcro. Every plastic, every microplastic, anything that ever ends up in your body is going to go through your liver. And people don't have near as much glutathione as they should because their livers are full of fat. Toxic. You and I, like I said, I'm not a negative person. You guys know me enough, but I'm a realist. I don't care. You can run, but you can't hide. We live in that kind of a world. We live in a toxic soup. I talked about toxicity and toxic soup. When I wrote a book on chronic fatigue syndrome, 35 years ago or more, I said, "Well, they're toxic." The liver's not producing enough glutathione. And if you want to do a detoxification, they're nothing better than doing the reset because when you don't eat sugar, your body is not storing glycogen in the form of fat in your liver.
Well, by the way, they were saying, okay, this is microplastic and take 60,000 microplastics a day on average. In the fertilizers, plastic mulch they use gets into the roots, to the plants, to the fruits. You know what the worst was? Apples and carrots. My word. Like I said, guys, you're not going to get away from that. And I don't want you never to have a carrot. I never want you to never have an apple. It's not an apple a day that keeps the doctor away, by the way. We changed that, right? It's a steak a day. Keeps the doctor away. So I'm just reading, continue to read this study. 58% of patients with arterial plaques contain microplastics when they get into the body and they get into the tissue and they get in on that little endothelial layer of your blood vessels, the Teflon layer that you have, and they form plaque. They always blame cholesterol for that.
Anywho, I'm telling you guys, that's the world in which you and I live. We have to be realist. We have to understand how our body works. We have to put everything on our side. And Allana's going, "I love that. " Or a coffee a day. Well, you're right. And you know what coffee does? Really helps your liver. It's one of the biggest things that coffee does. It helps your liver. Remember the coffee enemas? What did that do? Well, it went in through the hepatic vein, into the liver. Coffee helps your liver. You don't have to take it in a suppository. Although I used to give that to patients quite a bit. Coffee suppositories.
Anyway, guys, we love you dearly. We love you, love you, love you. You guys are great. And guys, send in your questions for Friday already. Okay? Get them in. Get them in at info@martinclinic.com. Okay? That gets to me on Friday. Okay. Tomorrow, I'm going to announce an afternoon session subject to change. I'll let you know early enough. Okay? I know some of you really like the afternoon sessions, but most people like the morning ones, okay? But we'll see. Okay? I probably would know tonight, I think, what I'm going to do tomorrow. Anyway. Guys, little announcements. The Sun Steak and Steel still available in Canada. Both books are available there. Our newest book, Rebuild Your Temple, okay, which is flying off the shelves.
