TRANSCRIPT OF TODAY'S EPISODE
Announcer: You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.
Dr. Martin: Well, good morning everyone and welcome again to another live this morning. Hope you're having a great start to your day. We appreciate you big time when you can come on live with us. We love that especially. Okay? And it's Q&A Friday, so it should be a lot of fun. I got a lot of good questions. Adrian is asking a question. Okay, let me get to it. "I would like to know what to do. I have polyps on my gallbladder, about five millimeters and other small ones." Well, anytime, and I don't care where those polyps are. Okay? I don't care where polyps are. Don't feed them.
And polyps like to grow and they grow with hormones. Insulin, cut it down. You know how to do that. Cut down insulin. Cut down estrogen. It's a hormone that's a growth hormone. That's why women have more body fat percentage than men do, generally. Okay? Just generally. Of course, a lot of exceptions to that. All I'm saying is women are supposed to have more estrogen than men have. Right? Problem is when men get too much estrogen, things grow, including their prostate. But whenever you have polyps, again, don't feed it. So cut down your insulin. Makes a big difference. Cut down your estrogen. That's one of the reasons I like flax seeds. Dim it out. Okay? Dim it out.
Lindy, "I saw a naturopath the other day and she highly recommends an estradiol patch and a progesterone pill from my medical doctor. I'm assuming that's not bioidentical." Well, estradiol is not a bioidentical. Now, you can get bioidentical. I'm surprised. I don't know where that naturopath practices, but in Ontario, they could give you bioidentical hormones. So I don't know why she would say go to the doctor. I don't agree. Okay? And Lindy, every Friday, just about I answer a question on hormones and bioidentical hormones or estrogen. Even if you got a bioidentical estrogen, I don't believe in that. I did bioidentical hormones for many years. Prescribed many, many bioidentical never with estrogen.
Again, I'll tell you why. You've got enough estrogen. I know when they, hey, I'm menopausal or perimenopausal and I'm postmenopausal. Therefore, my estrogen is going down. Yes, but not the xenoestrogen. We are surrounded in a world of what we call xenoestrogens. Your body thinks it's estrogen. And I don't like adding estrogen. It's a growth hormone. I don't like it.Okay? That's me. I'm one of the few when I was trained in bioidentical hormones and all my clinical practice of bioidentical hormones, I just never believed in giving women estrogen. I understand estrogen. I get it. I understand it's going down, but it's more than compensated by the environment that you and I live in. We got way too much estrogen. And I like progesterone because that's the balancing hormone for your estrogen.
I used to tell patients, "Look, let's do it my way. Okay? And let's see what results we get." And again, when I looked at hormones, guys, I did that 10,000 times in my office. I drew them a picture and I said, "We're going to deal with all of your horror-mones because they're all connected. We're going to talk about your ovaries. We're going to talk about your adrenals. We're going to talk about your pancreas and your insulin. And we're going to talk about your thyroid. Why is that? Because they're all connected and we're going to balance out everything there." I looked at hormonal therapy holistically. That was my experience. Tens of thousands of women would give testimony and men to what happens when you balance their hormones. It includes food because you want to lower insulin because insulin has a major effect on fat storage. And so we did it all, and that was me.
That's why I didn't use estrogen in my practice, I didn't believe in it. Okay? So when you ask me a question about it, you're almost asking the wrong guy because I consistently tell women, I wouldn't touch estrogen. That's me. Okay? She said, "If I get on hormones within 10 years of my last year, my chance of Alzheimer's osteoporosis are drastically lower." Well, first of all, I don't agree with that at all. Okay? I just don't. But there are some advantages to balancing your hormones. There's no doubt about that. Okay. I just went at it in a different way.
Nema went to emergency, found out she has an ovarian cyst rupture. Well, let me tell you something, Nema, 100% you had way too much estrogen. That's how you get an ovarian cyst. Your estrogen, you might have thought, "Oh, I don't have as much estrogen," but it's always compared to progesterone. And I guarantee you, you had way too much estrogen if you got an ovarian cyst that is now burst. Okay? So you want to dim out that estrogen, dim out that insulin, okay? Food is included big time. Okay? Yeah. You don't need another prescription. You can do this. Get on our menopausal formula in order to dim out the estrogen and give you more progesterone.
Babita. Hi, Babita. How are you? Tightening of the pelvis. A daughter is going, again, when you have pelvic pain, why is that? Why would your daughter be going through that? Way too much estrogen. Again, compared to progesterone. So you want to balance that out. It's all of the above that I just talked about, Babita. And one of the things I find, because blood flow is really important, Navitol is good for that too, because again, the more blood flow you have, the more nitric oxide that you have, the more blood flow, think of blood flow that's going to help that pelvic area. So I would add the Navitol and lower the estrogen. Okay? Thank you, Babita.
Lucille. DHA. Okay? You're taking one a day. "Itchy skin on certain parts of your body. Can DHA cause that?" Well, I've never heard of that before. I guess it's always possible that something's bothering you. I wouldn't think because every day, tens of thousands of people, more than that, take DHA and they're not bothered by that. So I would think, Lucille, that you probably have maybe a fungal, a little bit of leaky gut. That's what I think. Itchy skin, usually a fungus or a yeast. Get after that with probiotics and oil of oregano and don't feed the bears because they want sugar. Okay? Thank you, Lucille.
Terri. "I'm getting a hip replacement." Okay? You want to sail through it. They're going to tell you to stop all your supplements. I don't agree with that. Even one iota. They don't know what they're talking about, but you better be on, Terri, be on for sure, I'd double up your probiotics before, during, and after. Okay? Probiotics, you'll heal. I love curcumin and curcumin is so anti-inflammatory. And so is Navitol. Again, blood flow. Blood flow. Think of Navitol blood flow from your brain to your toes and to your hip joints. One of the reasons you get problems with hips, okay? It's like your shoulder. They're called an avascular joint. There's not a lot of blood going to your hips compared to your knee, for example. And your shoulder doesn't have a lot of blood supply. They've got blood supply, obviously, but not much. And this is why when they start to degenerate, it is a difficult situation in order for them to regenerate because not a lot of blood supply. They're called avascular joints. Okay? That's why I love Navitol. So I do curcumin and Navitol, probiotics and you will fly through and you'll heal much better, Terri. High DHA too, if you want.
Louise, her cousin has a leaky heart valve and diabetic. Two bad things. Okay? She's having dizzy spells. Probably, and I'm just going to say this, Louise. I'm pretty sure I'm right about this, but not knowing all the details, I'm just going to give you an educated guess. It's her medications because if she's diabetic and she has a leaky valve, I guarantee that she's on blood thinners. And that affects her probably on blood pressure medication too. Yeah, dizzy spells. Okay? And that's why there's a big connection.
Sherry is asking me a question. "I'm considering ordering provitalize." Now that's a probiotic for hip reasons. Well, I wouldn't do that, Sherry. If you have our broad spectrum probiotic, you got everything you need in that probiotic, first of all. And then curcumin. Okay? Do the both. I don't think you have to order different probiotics. I'm biased, guys. There ain't no probiotic like ours. I've never seen one. Okay? But that's me. And I'm biased. I admit it. But we formulated that. And it's a reason it's so hard to get and hard to make. It takes eight weeks to make every strain in our probiotic. It's a pain in the royal you know what I mean. But we don't compromise on that. You want to get results? I'm sorry. There's no probiotic like it.
Jim, "LDL particle size." Now, Jim, look at my face. As we speak, I'm getting a migraine. Okay? Can you see it in my face? They've made LDL to be a bad guy. And when that didn't sort of work, because people, a lot of research has been done. Okay. We've been talking about cholesterol as long as I've been in school, which is over 50 years ago. Okay? They made cholesterol even when I was in school, the bad guy. And I never bought that. I never bought it for one second. I just went to my high school days. Well, cholesterol. Biology. You need cholesterol. It's in every cell in your body. Your brain's made up of cholesterol. Why do you want to lower cholesterol? And then, okay, so that's the 1970s. Don't eat butter, eat margarine. Why? Cholesterol. Okay.
And then they found a medication to lower LDL. And then all of a sudden, and I mean it guys, I mean it. All of a sudden, LDL became a bad guy. What? Oh, there's good cholesterol and there's bad cholesterol. I never bought it. Why all of a sudden was because they had a drug. Statin drugs became the most popular drugs in all of the history of mankind. More popular than aspirin. More revenue. And it works. It lowers LDL cholesterol, except it didn't even make a dent in heart disease. It actually, heart disease is worse than ever. So they should have been fired. It's not working. You're fired. But no. So what did they do? The research came out on LDL and they said, well, first of all, your body makes LDL. It's important. It's a carrier of your hormones. It is a very important part of your immune system. And why do you want to lower it?
And then when people started questioning LDL, they went into the weeds and they get their gurus to talk about large size LDL particles and small size LDL particles. And they got tests that you can do to see. And then, look, as far as I'm concerned, it's a ruse. It's trying to keep people on medication. They're powerful. They own the media. They own Health Canada. They own FDA. Okay? So what do you want me to tell you? Jim, I don't buy it. And I'm opinionated. I don't want anybody to have a heart attack. And I tell you over and over again what I look for. I want to know what your triglycerides are. Those are dangerous if they're too high. Because when they're too high, your cholesterol is low. Your HDL cholesterol is what I look at. It's not that I don't look at LDL. You don't want to be low LDL, in my opinion. Why do you want to get it down? I don't like that. But I am consistent about what to look for. Okay? What do we look for? We look at triglycerides. We look at your A1C. We look at your HDL. That's what I look for. That's what I believe is the most important metabolic biomarkers for your heart. Okay? So does particle size matter? No, not in my opinion. Okay?
Pat, "what does Dr. Martin think about saffron for sleep?" Some people like it. I never found it on its own to be that effective to be honest with you. Hey, I'm not against it. If it works for you, go for it. Okay? I like magnesium better than saffron. I like our cortisol formula better. Some people, they want saffron. I got no problem with it. But I just never found on its own to be all that great. Remember, I had a radio show for 20 years. And man, I heard of everything. And I had people ask me every week, every week, every week about sleep and you name it. Okay?
Anyway, Claude is asking, "Is decaf coffee as good for the brain as regular coffee?" Yep. It is. It's not the caffeine. It's the bean. Now, I do recommend when you, and look on labels. If you're going to drink a decaf coffee, make sure it's Swiss water. Okay? That's a natural way of decaffeinating the water without any chemicals or whatever. It's called Swiss water. Swiss water process. Okay? And that's what I look for in a decaf. I got to have decaf at night. I cannot have a coffee. I can have coffee in the morning, but even starting, as I got older, I couldn't have, even in the late afternoon or whatever, I needed to have a decaf. That's me. Is it good for you? You bet your boots, it's good for you. It's not the caffeine. It's the bean. Thanks Claude.
Marie. You're asking a good question, Marie. She wants to know why Health Canada made our clinic put on our cortisol bottles, avoid taking before going to sleep. Now, again, Marie, I'm getting another migraine. Why? We don't know why. They don't have to tell you why. Okay? It's just the rules in Canada. It's getting increasingly more difficult for supplements in Canada. Again, I just got to give you a little history. Canada had the best, best, best, because we had our own dictorium on natural product. Came out of the 1990s. The regulations on natural products in Canada were the best in the world. The world was envious of the regulations, the protection, the safety for its Canadian citizens when it came to supplements. And then in the last few years, I just got to tell you, Health Canada went silly. They want to change all the rules.
And I tell you, this is my opinion, and I think I'm right about it. The pharmaceutical industry wants to take over the supplement industry in Canada. I have no doubt about it in my mind. And we already had the best rules. We already had the best safety, and they want to change it, and they want to be able to control it. So if you want to take vitamin D in Canada, this is what they want. They haven't done it yet, but this is what they want. They want you to get a prescription from your doctor. That is craziness, in my opinion. But why they make you put stuff on labels, like they change everything. It's too bad. There was no need to do it. I was very much involved in the original planning of that legislation out of the '90s. It was the best. Don't get me going to get a migraine. Thanks, Marie. Don't avoid cortisol at night.
Okay. Elaine is talking about getting an MRI and they found a little bit of changes in the white matter. Okay? So that's all right. It's preventative in a way, Elaine. Okay. So changes in the white matter. That's what happens by the way in MS. They get four plaques, changes in the white matter, in their brains. It's very consistent. And by the way, when I wrote my book on chronic fatigue syndrome way back when, okay, 35 years ago or was it more than that? Anywho, when I wrote that book, I talked about that. That when they were doing MRIs of brains of people with chronic fatigue, they found those plaques very similar to MS. There were changes in the brain. And that's how one of the ways I discovered Navitol pine bark extract. Again, think blood flow to the brain.
And my wife, for example, that was diagnosed officially with chronic fatigue syndrome. Okay? We didn't even know what it was. That's where I discovered pine park extract that it crosses the blood brain barrier, blood flow to the brain. And it helped that area. That's why I always talk about Navitol. Why I love it so much. Why millions, and I mean it, when I say a million, yeah, probably have tried Navitol. And you read the reviews on it and you go, holy smokes, people love it. And why does it work? Blood flow. You got 60,000 miles of blood vessels and you need blood flow. You need the pump to pump it out. So that's why it's able as a natural product to cross the blood brain barrier. That's why I would have you on that.
Another one that's guaranteed to help is DHA because your brain is made up of DHA. You want to regenerate the brain, blood flow and the right fat, the right oil. That's DHA. I love that combination, by the way. You know that guys. I've been talking about this for many years. Your eyes. You know what your eyes are? Blood flow. It's blood flow. That's why diabetics have trouble with eyes. Diabetes and blood flow. What's the connection? Well, sugar destroys blood vessels. Blood flow. That's why they get cataracts. That's why they get glaucoma. That's why they get diabetic retinopathy. That's why they get Alzheimer's. Much more susceptible to it if you're a diabetic. Blood flow. I'm big on that, guys. I always tell people there's a reason for my madness because a lot of people think I'm crazy, but there's a reason for it. I'm a why guy. You're a diabetic. Why? Well, you and sugar don't get along. That's why. That's what it is. I'm a why guy. Okay?
You got trouble in your brain. Why? Okay. Sugar, my friend. Destroys. Your body knows that. Your body's dedicated to keeping sugar down, down, down, down. And getting it out of your blood and storing it, get it out, out, out, out, out, out. It comes in and sweeps. Insulin sweeps sugar out of your bloodstream. It has to. Okay. And yet people still, oh, moderation, Dr. Martin. Moderation, everything in moderation, right? I had that. People said it a million times in my office. I said, "I don't negotiate with terrorists." I said, "You're a diabetic. There's no negotiations. You and sugar don't get along. It's not moderation. It's elimination for you. Get rid of it." How about cookies? No. How about biscuits? No. No. Okay. And that was Elaine. Thanks, Elaine.
Okay, let's do a few more. Wendy's asking thoughts on hydrogen tablets. Don't bother. God wanted you to drink water. H20. Why do you want to put more hydrogen in it? What's that going to do for you? Okay. I don't buy it, guys. Okay? I know there's a lot of hydrogen water and you're going to fly to the moon. You're going to feel so much better with hydrogen water. I don't buy it. I don't buy it. Okay. You want to spend money and do it? Go for it. But you're asking me, well, why? I'm asking why would you want to do it? Okay. Water's water. Hydrogen. If you're going to add more hydrogen, eh, I'm not convinced. Okay?
Margie, "what do I think of vibration plates?" Well, some people swear by those vibration plates. They really do. Do I? I'm not sure. Okay. Again, I'm not saying don't do it. You'll probably get better advice if you watch the scroll today. Some people say, "I love vibration plate." Okay? But they're not going to fix just everything. Okay? I got asked that question even in my radio days of vibration plate. I don't know. I know it's supposed to be good for your lymphatic system and that. I don't know, maybe. I'm not against it. Okay? I'm not against it. In case you think I'm against everything. I'm not.
Ginette talking about ALS and the bulker kind. Well, look, Ginette, again, everything, brain, blood, blood, blood, blood, blood flow. Okay? ALS. Have I ever seen ALS reverse? No. I can't think of a case we're ever seen. Very serious, right? The Lou Gehrig disease, and it's much more prevalent today. I got a theories on that. Leaky gut, leaky brain. So you fix that. Fix the leaky gut. Do everything you can. I believe there's fungus in ALS, in Parkinson's, and MS. There's a fungal infection that got up into the brain that fungus is yeast, is a carrier. It'll carry heavy metals across your blood-brain barrier. And that damages the brain. So I'm big on getting rid of that. I'm big on protecting it. Navitol with high DHA. Vitamin D for everything. Lowers inflammation. I'd be using curcumin too. Okay? That was Ginette
Karen. She has MCAS. Mast cell overactivation syndrome. It's the mast cells go crazy. What are mast cells? MAST. What are mast cells? They release histamine. Okay? So when you have allergies, you take, a lot of people take an anti-histamine to lower the response of their mast cells. When you get a mast cell activation, you're allergic to everything just about. I always used to tell patients, you're allergic to yourself. And whenever I saw MCAS, and I did see it, it's a massive leaky gut, a massive leaky gut. Probiotics, bone broth, quercetin, antihistamine with Navitol, the combination of the blood flow, blood flow, blood flow. But this is major leaky gut, major fungal infection, in my opinion. And the body goes crazy. It's like autoimmune.
Okay, "should I stop taking my supplements for testing?" Look, here's what I'm going to say. When they do the testing, unfortunately, if you really have a mast cell activation syndrome, you're going to find you going to be allergic to everything. I used to tell people, nah. No, you got to fix internally first because you're going to find you're hypersensitive to everything. What are you supposed to do? Leave the planet? You want to stop your supplements before you get tested? Okay. I don't care, but I wouldn't. Like for me personally, I wouldn't do it. Okay. That was Karen. Thanks, Karen. We appreciate your question.
Another Karen, it may be the same one. I don't know. "A few friends of mine are whole food, 30 day food challenge. I was wondering what your take on this particular book?" I'd have to look at it. "I see they do not allow dairy and strongly suggest eating vegetables and fruit in moderation, and they don't want grains or limitations on grain." Well, look, I'm not against a 30 day vegetables and I don't know what they think of meat.My 30 day is based on insulin. They're talking about a detox. Well, let me tell you something. Okay? This is just really important. Karen, you understand this? You cannot do a detox if your liver is all gummed up. And I'm sorry, vegetables are not going to empty your liver. It won't. Eating fruits isn't going to empty your liver.
Now, I'm not against fruits and vegetables. You guys know that. But I like my reset much better because it'll empty your liver. It's going to empty your liver. And that's what you want to do to do a detox. And then it fixes your insulin resistance at the cellular level. It's going to elevate your glutathione. So yeah, I want to do 30 days of just you're eating vegetables and this and that. You're not getting all the nutrition value that I think you need. I like the idea that they're limiting grains. Okay? I like that. Anyway, that's what I think.
Joanne, "you say not to drink any juice and I agree. However, I do drink a little tart cherry juice for inflammation. Your thought?" I like tart cherry juice. Spoonful of tart cherry juice. You want to take that for uric acid? Seems to be some benefits to that. Some people use tart cherry juice for inflammation. Some use it for sleep. They found it helped in their sleep. I'm not against that. You're taking a little teaspoon or a tablespoon of tart cherry juice. I don't care. That ain't going to kill you. And it's tart. I love cherries, by the way. I'd rather eat them. Okay. That was Joanne.
"76 year old," this is Bev. Bev, was asking about a 76 year old relative with excessive saliva production. Oh, poor girl. Stuff's Kleenex. And look, whenever I saw that, it's never easy to fix that, like that excess of saliva. I have seen it. I just got to tell you what I found in my office, okay? Because it was pretty consistent because I looked for deficiencies. I did their hormones and then I checked everything that I like to check. And whenever I saw excessive, usually they were on medications, usually. And the body was just making a whole lot of mucus and saliva to try and fix that. Usually they had leaky gut, almost invariably. They either had a fungal and that could be in the mouth and that was causing the extra saliva. I seen that in my office, but usually meds and leaky gut, cut out the sugar, see what happens. Not easy. Okay?
Diane is saying, "What do I think of DPA in omega-3?" Well, not much. And I don't want to be negative. Okay? I really don't. But look, there's EPA and DHA. And then they got, "Oh, here's a hidden one that you should be taking as a supplement. It's DPA." No, not in my opinion. Okay? And there's some hype on it. I've read it. I haven't found that to be really important. Look, the best thing in omega-3, although omega-3 is good for you. All of it. It's like different cars on the highways. Okay? You got DHA, you got ALA, you got CLA, and you got omega-3s, you got omega-6s. The best of the best is DHA. Why? Well, because it's the Maserati. It's the best. Your brain's made up of it. Your eyeballs are made up of it. It is the most powerful of all the omega-3s. DHA. Anything else that doesn't compare to DHA. Okay? So that's what I think, Diane. Okay? You're getting it when you take a good high DHA. And we got EPA in there too, of course.
Brian. Okay, got two more and then we're done. Okay? So let's do it. Brian is asking about shingles. Diagnosed, given an antiviral, you have to take that in the first few days of shingles. No fun. You know what they're showing now about shingles? If you had the chickenpox vaccine, it can be a big cause of it. Okay? I just read that the other day. Anyway, shingles, antiviral, it will affect your microbiome. So I would double up your probiotics for a bit. And get on quercetin. I love oil of oregano. Very antiviral. Okay? And probiotics, big time. Double, triple up. Okay, thanks, Bry.
And then one more. "Suggestions," and this is anonymous. "Good exercise for building muscle suitable for 70 year olds." Well, look, you can get lightweights. You know what's really good? Bands. Resistant bands. Okay? You don't even have to go to a gym. Use resistant bands. Do pushups. If you can do 'em. Do a half a pushup if you have to. Just get stronger. Build yourself up. It's amazing you can regenerate at any age. But I like those bands. They're really good. You can use them anywhere. Resistant and get stronger. That's one of the best ways if you're starting at an older age. Okay? Because you know what we think of muscle? Really important. You don't want to be sarcopenic. It makes you much more susceptible to osteoporosis, much more susceptible to fractures. You fall and break and you want muscle. It really helps, helps your balance too. Okay? Okay. We love you guys, and we'll talk to you soon.
