Announcer: You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.
Dr. Martin: Well, good morning everyone. Once again, welcome to another live this morning and we sure appreciate when you can come on live with us. Okay, let's get going. I did answer, I think, was it yesterday or maybe Friday in the Q&A who got asked about asthma. So listen, I've never seen a case of asthma where they didn't have leaky gut. So asthma in children, especially absolutely out of control today. But that's caused by leaky gut. I believe it's antibiotics in use in children, the double-edged sword. And the fact that you compromise the microbiome, and that to me is a big issue. Usually asthma, again, they're often low in vitamin D, lungs, vitamin D, and fungus, leaky gut. And I like quercetin for asthma. I like the combination of Navitol and quercetin together. Usually low levels of vitamin D. So certainly vitamin D supplementation, very, very important to get rid of all as much as you can antigens.
But at the point is, it's inside of that person. It usually starts guys with the gut. Okay? So check that out. And sometimes dairy could be bothering people and make them more asthmatic and that, but why do we see so much of it today? Think about it. When I was a kid in school, I don't remember one asthmatic child. I don't remember one. I mean it. I'm sure there were some, but I didn't ever saw it. Like today, it's crazy. Okay. So I always go back to that childhood. Even the overuse in my opinion of Tylenol in children and the antibiotics that I already talked about. Even coming down that birth canal. I've talked about this before. You see an autism. I mean, it's unreal the amount of those children that were born through C-section. And hey, listen, I didn't say that. Well, I've said it, but it's only because I reported on the research. Okay? Anyway, there we go.
All right, let's get to a few studies that I want to talk about here this morning. One of them hot off the presses in Science Daily, and I posted it in the private Facebook group, wild blueberries. And it's got to be wild. So if you go and get blueberries in the grocery store, well, okay. I like berries, guys. You ask me about fruit, the best fruit is berries. Okay. Avocados are good and you want to have an apple a day, but that won't keep the doctor away. A steak a day will. But the research on blueberries, I love wild blueberries, guys. Okay? I'm from northern Ontario. We had a lot of wild blueberries. And on the years that we don't have enough blueberries, the bears come into town. My sister once said, "There's so many bears they're buying condos," but bears use blueberries to get fat for winter.
But I'm not worried about you getting fat eating blueberries. Okay? And the reason is because bears eat up to 30,000 blueberries a day as they're getting ready for hibernation. And we know what happens because the blueberry is fructose and fructose goes to the liver and starts packing on fat. Okay? Bears do it, they need it. But I ain't worried about you guys eating 30,000 blueberries. I really like blueberries. And I remember on my radio show 25, 30 years ago talking about what we had right in our backyard in Northern Ontario is wild blueberries. And out of all the berries, they're the most powerful antioxidant. I actually did a radio show, this is years ago. My word, I was being interviewed in French in Quebec and I said, "Well, you guys, especially in Lac St. Jean and all that, you guys got wild blueberries. You know how good they are for you?" And I talked about the importance of those antioxidant.
And I'll tell you something, okay? And this is for cancer treatment, okay? You know anybody with cancer, give them this tip from Dr. Martin. Do Dr. Martin's perfect smoothie, okay? Every day, heavy cream, you can use coconut milk, but full fat, okay? Full fat dairy, like heavy cream. And use some blueberries because blueberries are powerful anti-cancer. They are. Okay? I like strawberries too. I like raspberries, but the best is if you can get wild blueberries. It's like gold now. It costs you about the same amount when you buy a basket of blueberries, okay? But they're so wonderful because you can freeze them and you freeze them when they're picked. Man, oh man. You can put them in your smoothie, man. Okay? So remember, Dr. Martin's perfect smoothie, and I say perfect. It's very anti-cancer. Remember, cancer needs glucose, not ketone.
So when you're eating fat and drinking fat, I don't want you to drink anything other than water, coffee, and Dr. Martin's perfect smoothie. Everything else, don't drink. You can have some fruit if you're not on the reset. But with cancer patients, I really recommend wild blueberries. I really do. If you can get them, okay? Blueberries in the store, they don't have the antioxidant content. And blueberries are good for anti-cancer. They're very powerful antioxidant and very good for your heart and your brain. And they really protect those blood vessels, even for blood pressure. So for those who say, "Well, Dr. Martin, you never talk about fruit." Well, there you go. I just did.
Okay, a new study out on omega-3 and cognitive health, protecting your brain. It's amazing to me that doctors don't talk about this, okay? They're always looking for love in all the wrong places. Medicine is looking for a drug for the brain. They spend a lot of money, pharmaceutical companies and that research, research, research, spending, and they've come out with some medication for Alzheimer's, dementia. It hasn't worked even a stitch. It's been a colossal failure because they're looking for love in all the wrong places. The best med you can do for your brain is omega-3, and especially DHA. Why? Because your brain is made up of DHA. Your brain is made up of DHA, fatty acid, and cholesterol. Oh, look where medicine is today. Let's lower your cholesterol.
I actually talked to a guy yesterday, okay? Not a patient or anything. Just asked me a question when he found out who I was. He said, "I'm on a statin drug for cholesterol." I said, "Yeah?" "Yeah, and apparently my cholesterol's normal, but they put me on a statin drug," and that gave me a migraine instantly. And I think he looked at my face and said, "You don't approve of that? " I said, "Well, look, I'm not your doctor. I'm not your cardiologist. But why in the heck would they put you on a medication that's got a boatload of side effects?" And guess what he told me, by the way, okay? In the conversation, guess what he told me? He said, "You know what? I'm having trouble with my memory." Hello?! They're lowering your cholesterol and your brain is made up of cholesterol. Hello? He didn't know his brain was made up of cholesterol.
The only thing he knew is that cholesterol, bad, according to his doctor. Bad. Even though your cholesterol's normal, according to his blood work, that's what he told me. The doctor, they think that's prevention. Imagine that. I said, "Well, are you taking Omega-3?" And his wife was beside him and she said, "Oh, I take it. " No, he don't take nothing except that stupid medication. I said, "You're a typical male." You don't listen. His wife says, "I take Omega-3." I said, "Well, you're smart." I said, "How much DHA is in it? " "What?" She didn't know that part. She said, "I just take a fish capsule." I said, "Well, good for you. " I said, "You know what's the most important part of that fish capsule? How much DHA is in there? DHA is for your brain. DHA is for your eyes. DHA is for your heart. DHA is for your blood vessels. EPA is good too. Don't get me wrong. I like EPA, but DHA is the key.
So I had a little conversation. Here's this guy, he's got trouble with his memory and they're giving him a medication that causes memory issues and all in the name of getting cholesterol down. I get migraines, guys. I get migraines when I hear stuff like that. It's unbelievable. Anyway, new study, omega-3 and the brain. The brain. I told you this story before. I think there was 200 doctors at least. This is 25 years ago in a conference that I was doing at least, and there was a lot of cardiologists there too. And I don't know if I was a little bit intimidated before the conference because I said, you know what? I'm just going to go out there and be me. I'm not going to go out there and try and impress them. As a matter of fact, I'm going to go out there and blast them for knowing nothing. You might as well go to your plumber rather than go to your doctor for advice on nutrition or supplements. They don't know anything.
Anyway, so I put that in my head. I went out and I went after them. And here's what I did at one of these conferences. I said, "Okay, you docs out there. How many of you guys take omega-3?" This is guys more than 25 years ago. I mean, three quarters of them put their hands up. They were taking a fish oil capsule. Okay. I said, "Put your hands down." I said, "How many of you recommend fish oil or omega-3 to your patients?" I think there was one hand up out of 250 or whatever there was in that room. I said, "You're a bunch of hypocrites. You take omega-3 and you don't even recommend it to your patients. You're hypocrites." Oh, they love me.Actually, I won the best speaker of the day because I went at them. I couldn't help myself. Okay? I said, "If they don't invite me back, what too bad?" I'm not here to win a popularity contest. I was trying to teach them a few things. Why wouldn't you take Omega-3? Okay, you do? Oh, why wouldn't you recommend it to your patients? The research is overwhelming.
And I don't go by a week where I don't read new research on Omega-3. But the pharmaceuticals, they can't patent it. They patent one omega-3. I think it's all EPA and it's a drug called Vesepa. And it's to lower your triglycerides. It costs about 400 bucks a month. Like it's a pharmaceutical grade. They got a patent on it. I think it was an Irish company, if I'm not mistaken. I talked about this years ago. Anyway, they use EPA. And I felt like saying, well, you don't have to patent. And if you think EPA is good, you should see what DHA does. Those are your two fats. And by the way, EPA and DHA are only found in the animal kingdom. You can get omega-3 from plants, nuts, seeds. You can get some omega-3 there, but it don't have the DHA. Your brain's made up of it and it don't have the EPA.
This is why for me, you know me, I'm consistent. I tell you, look, if you want to be a vegetarian, I feel sorry for you. And if you do, you need to supplement because you're not getting DHA. You're not getting EPA. You're just not getting it. Don't fool yourself. You're not getting B12 either. And you're not getting vitamin D in food. You're not. So don't fool yourself. Because a lot of them, it's propaganda. It's a religion to them. And plants are at the top of the food chain. Well, they're not. They're not. Listen, even when I was in school in the 70s, they talked about the plant kingdom superior to the animal kingdom. I was taught that. I didn't believe it, but I was taught it. Like for me, it was, what? Where are you going to get your B12? That's not in the plants. Where are you going to get your heme iron? That's not in the plants. Where are you going to get all your amino acids? They're not all in the plants. Where are you going to get all that stuff? Well, you better supplement. You better supplement. Anyhoo. That's me. That's me. Anyhoo.
Let me give you another one here, another study. So that's omega-3 and the brain. Yep. Nothing new under the sun, just that they keep confirming over and over and over again how good it is for you to take omega-3. And especially again, people ask me, Dr. Martin, you never talk about fish. I said, I have fish every day. What? In a capsule. I like steak. Okay. You guys know me. Okay? And if you don't, I'm pretty crazy. But what's better than steak? Nothing, in my opinion. Now, liver is good. Okay? Liver is very good for you. I don't like liver. I don't like the taste of it. So I don't talk about it. I talk about steak. The highest food on the food chain. It's the best. A steak a day keeps the doctor away. Cancer hates steak. It hates it. Okay? It hates it. Cancer don't feed on steak. It's amazing.
There's always propaganda out there. Oh yeah but Dr. Martin, I know about glucose, but what about the glutamine? The glutamine. And look, I know that's out there and cancer's true. Through fermentation, it will process glucose and glutamine, but not from food. Glucose from food, but not glutamine from food. They did not come from steak. It's a way that they vilify the animal kingdom. But it's not true. It's not science. It doesn't work that way. Cancer feeds on what? Sugar. And cancer cells have 10 times more receptors for insulin than a normal cell. That's facts. So cancer hates steak. Cancer hates eggs too. Hates them. They don't feed on that. As a matter of fact, cancer cannot feed on ketones. They just can't. Cancer cells, they can't eat fat. They just don't. Okay?
Okay, did I have another one? Okay. Let's see. We got time for just to do one more. This is talking about fat too. This is an article that I read yesterday, the day before. I can't remember. When I say I can't remember, guys, okay, remember I'm taking out my senior card. I love that card. I got a good memory, but sometimes I forget. Okay? And conveniently at times. Okay. Now, here's the article. I like it. It was kind of interesting. I'm a history guy, so this we're talking about the history of skin cancer. As far back as they can go where there's any research on skin cancer, and it was so rare in the 1900s. So rare. You'd have trouble finding it in old medical textbooks. Not that it wasn't there. It was just very rare. Everybody agreed with that. And this article talked about that. Okay? Go back.
And they said, now skin cancer, especially melanoma, like it's out of stinking control. They said, "What happened?" And they were just giving some facts. People used to be outdoors. Most people worked outdoors. They were used to the sun. They were used to being outside. That was one. And they said, and this has been confirmed by research, is melanoma is an inside job. It's people that don't get outside generally, office workers, people that don't see the sun. That cancer occurs in places. Okay? Again, almost 90% of all melanomas occur in a place where the sun don't shine, like on your butt or whatever. Okay? Seriously, guys. I'm telling you. And so you could get melanoma. You get in the sun. No. You get in the sun, you won't get melanoma. That's just about what the research is saying. The sun, vitamin D prevents melanoma.
Now nobody's telling you to go out and burn. But what this article was saying, people, okay, they went back, looked at the medical books and the research and whatever that was way back in the early 1900s. And they said, "Well, anything we read, skin cancer was extremely rare." And then they said, "What changed?" And they went on to list a few things. "Oh, we changed the oil. We changed the fat." Proctor and gamble, right? Crisco. People started using it. People started baking with it. And then the fat police made even McDonald's go from lard to the hateful 8, from canola to sunflower to you name the soy oil, all these seed oils and cotton seed oil, which is canola oil. Canada's gift to the world, canola. It's a bad oil. Well, you want to put it as an oil change in your car? Well use it. Not meant for your body, but they were saying there was a direct correlation in this article between the use of bad fats. They called them that bad fats and skin cancer and burning.
I can tell you from my clinic days, guys, the people that did the reset and then started really lowering their carbs, especially the processed foods like the fries and like everything that's in a fast food place. You know what they found? Yeah. Less burning. They go on a holiday, say, "Doc, I don't burn like I used to." Yeah. Amazing with the skin when you give it the right fat. Anyway, that's what this article is saying. And guys, one thing, remember, saturated fat, which has been vilified is your friend. Saturated fat is satisfied fat. Don't forget that.
So we got a great week, guys. Tomorrow night, for those of you in our book club, if I can see your questions, I'm going to monitor sort of a Q&A webinar tomorrow night on the private Facebook group, the book club. Okay? You got any questions? Q&A Friday, send them in. Okay? We're going to do Q&A Friday. Okay. Guys, we love you. We'll talk to you soon.
