TRANSCRIPT OF TODAY'S EPISODE

Announcer:  You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.

Dr. Martin:  Well, good morning everyone. Once again, welcome to another line this morning. Hope you're having a great start to your day. We appreciate you guys. We appreciate this family. Okay? The Martin Clinic family. We love you guys and you guys have a wonderful Christmas. Okay, you know what I want to do some teaching on this morning because I'm just overwhelmed how the human body works, okay? Fearfully and wonderfully made. That's you. That's me. Okay? But I want to talk about this organ right here. It doesn't get a lot of ink. And they've done this. Do a survey. What are the top five organs that you can think of? Well, your brain, your heart. A lot of people put their intestines, stomach. Very important. But you know what never gets in the top five? Your liver. Okay. That organ right here.

So we're going to talk about it this morning because it's not there's anything new under the sun, but we learn new things and we never want to stop learning about the human body because we put out an email this morning and this is what sort of got me going, as we talked about the 10 things at the Martin Clinic we really believe in, and that is number one is you. Okay? You. You, and this is an educational program. So you, we're aiming at you so that you're well equipped to make decisions, to ask questions. Okay? It sort of goes against the grain. They don't want you to ask questions. Mainstream medicine, if there's any issue with that, it's the lack of question. Don't question me, I'm a doctor. But they should be questioned. Every doctor, doctor means teacher, by the way. Okay? So when you see the name Dr. Martin, it's Teacher Martin. That's what it should be.

And I sort of prided myself with teaching my patients. I always used to tell them when they left the office. Okay? I'm going to give you a plan, a plan to succeed. So you need to understand what's going on. You need to understand your weaknesses. You need to understand your strengths. You need to understand how important food is to your body. Okay? Because it's amazing to me still, here we are in 2025, and most medical school don't even teach nutrition. If they do, it's not even nutrition 101. So when it comes to nutrition, I have a saying, you're better off going to your plumber and asking them about nutrition than going to your doctor. They don't know anything. They believe in moderation. That's been around for 50, 60 years. Moderation, moderation. They believe in the healthy snacking. Okay? You need a snack, uh no you don't. Okay?

So, the liver. Let's do a little bit of teaching this morning on the liver. How important it is to your body and how important food is to your liver and liver health. So your liver stores, your liver protects, your liver filters. There's no filter like your liver. So 24 hours a day, your liver works the night shift, by the way. All of the other organs, they get turned onto airplane mode so that they rest and regenerate. But your liver, you want to do a detox of your body. You need your liver to be functioning. So the night shift comes in and detoxes, but it's always detoxing, guys. It's so important. So it stores, it's like a 24 hour grocery store. Okay? Open 24 hours, night and day. Because it's stores, guys. It's a storage place. Unfortunately, the problem in our society today, which we never, ever, ever saw before. This is significant, guys. What happened in the liver? What happens in the liver today that never, ever, ever happened in the past? Fatty liver.

It never happened before. There was cirrhosis of the liver. Well, well established. As long as there have been researchers and physicians and whatever, they understood cirrhosis of the liver, alcohol and maybe even hepatitis due to an HIV or even that that would be more new. But listen, guys, listen, Linda's and Larry's, listen, a new phenomenon that I didn't even learn in school. I was always fascinated by the liver because it does so many things. It's the Rodney Dangerfield of your organs. It never gets any respect that people don't talk about it until it doesn't work. You get cirrhosis of the liver, you're in deep doodoo. You're in trouble because you can't live without a liver. And it's being packed up today. Never was before. Fatty liver I didn't even study in the 1970s, guys. I didn't even study it. It was non-existent. You can look at all my medical books, didn't even study it. Okay?

So, that's important to understand that. Solomon said there's nothing new under the sun. Well, that's new. What's new? I used to say that to patients all the time. What's new? And I was trying to get them to answer. I got a new liver. If they did the reset, they regenerated their liver. And it all has to do, guys. Fatty liver all has to do with a storage problem. It's a storage problem. So, and we've taught this before. When you eat the wrong foods, your body has no choice. So when you're eating sugar and the worst thing, okay? Now, I'm going to show you something because it's empty now just about a little bit. I had a Dr. Martin's perfect smoothie this morning. Okay? So I'm not talking about that because that's actually good for your liver. But when people have fruit juice, they have a can of soda. Okay? Let me see, because I looked it up this morning.

A can of soda. Okay? Take Coca-Cola or Pepsi Cola or any other cola. Okay? The only thing be worst probably is Mountain Dew. But you go to Starbucks. Okay? Can I name them? You go to your coffee shop and you get these specialty drinks. They're horrendous for the liver. It's a storage problem. Here's why. 33 grams in a can. That's about 8 to 10 teaspoons of high fructose corn syrup. That's the worst sugar guy. So see when man invents something, look, man does great things, right? It's unreal. Good for them. Man does great things. But when they start playing with food, I was John the Baptist when I saw high fructose corn syrup, screaming in the wilderness because I felt like I was alone, especially in the media of the day. I was screaming, don't do that. Don't play with nature. High fructose corn syrup is the, what did I used to say? And you guys have heard me before, the antichrist of sugars.

Worst sugar possible is high fructose corn syrup. Because what we understood and we still understand is fructose. Okay, you eat a fruit. You have an orange. Hey, I got no problem with that. There's fructose in there, right? It's fruit, sugar. There's fructose. When you eat it, there's no big problem with that. But when you drink it in nanoseconds, and we talked about this yesterday, it disrupts the microbiome on the way to the liver. Everything has to go through the liver. High fructose corn syrup. Beeline. And when a high fructose corn syrup heads to the liver, it packs the liver with fat. Think of bear. Think of hibernation. I was always fascinated by bears. As a matter of fact, I got my t-shirt on this morning. You'll see it backwards. Okay? Don't feed the bears. Okay? When I wrote a book, don't feed the bears. I was talking about feeding the bad bacteria, feeding yeast, candida. Okay?

But bears, we all know this, hibernate. How do they get ready for hibernation? Their favorite? Blueberries. A bear getting ready for hibernation can eat. It's just about pass out when I think of it. 30,000 blueberries in a day. When you eat that many berries, it's turning to fat. It's the fructose. Okay? Now, they're not drinking blueberry juice, but when you eat 30,000, eh, you're going to pack up with a lot of fat. So you see guys, sugar turns to fat. It's stored as glycogen. Gly. Whenever you see that GLY glyco, you're thinking fat. Okay? Tri-glycerides. Okay? You see the word again in there. Tri, three. Glycerides. Fat. Fat balls. How do you get triglycerides? Well, they're normal. Your body makes them. They're stored in your liver until there's no more room in the liver. The problem is when there's no room in the liver, the Costco parking lot gets full because people are eating sugar. Look at kids today. How can they get a sugar belly? How can that happen at that age? The liver. It's packed up.

I never thought I would see it, but I saw it in my lifetime. I never thought I would see this. A child with fatty liver. I saw it in my office. I never thought I would ever see anything like it in a child. But they pack up. They pack up the liver. And when that liver gets packed up, a couple of things happen. When the liver gets full, the Costco parking lot. If you got a Costco in your town today, this would be one of the worst times of the year to go there. I wouldn't want to go to our Costco down the road here. There'll be no parking spots. Christmas shopping at the last minute, right? It'll be full of men. It'll be full of men Christmas shopping. Okay? So the liver's gummed up, guys. That is so destructive to the body. The liver gets full. What happens? It sends triglycerides out of it into the bloodstream. Plus, now the triglycerides, because there's no room in the liver. Your liver produces cholesterol. 85% of the cholesterol you make is made in your liver. Do you think it's important? You bet your boots.

Because cholesterol is your Amazon trucks. It's sending out your hormones. What? Yeah. Even your thyroid hormones. T4 is converted to T3. Where? Mostly liver. And those hormones, men, your testosterone, ladies, your estrogen, progesterone. They go through the highways and byways of your blood vessels off to your tissue. You need that. That's what cholesterol does. Why do we want to lower cholesterol? Because we're crazy. We got duped. Did I read you the study yesterday? See if I have it here somewhere. Cholesterol. Those with the highest cholesterol have the lowest risk of cancer. Hello? We want to hammer down cholesterol because we made it the boogeyman. But again, let's get back to the liver.

So when the liver's all gummed up, triglycerides are sent into the bloodstream and cholesterol, which has two trailers. One, full of hormones. Okay? Cholesterol. It's going through the bloodstream, going through your blood vessels. It's carrying your hormones in one trailer. Then it has a back trailer. You ever seen those on the highways? Right? Two trailers? Full? Well, one of them is for hormones, and the other one is to bring triglycerides back to the liver. Bring fat balls back to the liver. You don't want fat balls staying in your bloodstream, triglyceride. Why do I ask you guys, and you guys are smart, so you know this. Insist on looking at your own blood work. Insist on it. I want to see my blood work. Insist that your doctor, when they do the lipid panel. And it's, Dr. Martin, what about my total cholesterol? What about this? What about this? And even now they're into the weeds. They get apo, a small particle cholesterol because they just want to demonize cholesterol. And they're looking for love in all the wrong places.

What they should be looking at is your triglycerides and your HDL. And when your triglycerides are high, it's like a teeter totter. Your triglycerides are too high. Well, you don't have enough cholesterol to bring them back to the liver for processing. Plus, the liver's all packed up. So there's no room in the liver. Do you understand that? You see how important your liver is? Your liver is so important for your heart. You don't want bad triglycerides staying in your bloodstream and they're high. That'll jam up your blood vessels. Triglycerides, fat balls. And how did you get that? Sugar. And any food that's sugar molecules holding hands. So don't fool yourself. I always used to tell my patients that. Don't fool yourself. The worst deception. I used to preach on this. The worst deception is self-deception. It's the worst because people fool themselves. They fool themselves into thinking they're healthy when they're not. Like men that used to come to my office. Why are you here? I don't know. Who brought you? My wife. What's wrong? Nothing. I got nothing wrong.

Oh, I used to love two things in my office. One, when a man came in with his wife. Men, what's wrong? Nothing. Well, I feel good. Oh, you have no problem with me. Okay? First of all, two things. One, I got their blood work. I knew they were lying. No, you're not. Okay? Because I got your blood work. I got all your results. You're on the Titanic. And then their wife would be there and giving them the elbow. What? You're not feeling good. You're tired all the time. You sit on the couch and you fall asleep in five seconds and you're burping and you're, you don't feel good. What are you talking about? Oh, I used to love that. I'd have a little smirk on my face. Okay? Anyway, guys, that liver doesn't get a lot of ink, but you guys know better. And when that Costco parking lot gets full, and the only way to fill up your Costco parking lot is to put fat in it. And when you don't have enough muscle, you want storage bins, guys. This is why we talk about the metabolic importance of muscle, because you want storage bins. You want places to park.

So look at your arms and those are smaller than your legs, right? So I can't show you my legs. Well, I could if I stood up. But you know what I mean? You want parking spots. That's why muscle is so important to your liver. You'll never hear that. Doctors don't even know about that. They don't even talk about that. But your muscles are so important to your liver because they're parking space. They're bins. You can store a lot of glycogen in a muscle more than you can in the liver. There are not a lot of room in the liver. And this is why I am so big, guys. I'm so big on keeping your liver empty. Empty it. And if you eat the right food, you empty it. When you have an egg, your liver goes, oh, thank you. You're not taking up any parking spots. Do you understand what I'm saying, guys? You want to keep that Costco parking lot empty and you do that by food, the right fuel. Eggs don't take up parking spot, neither does cheese.

Did you see the thing that I posted? It actually hit mainstream media. I was shocked by it. Oh, fat is a lot healthier than we thought. You know how I've always said the word? Saturated stupidity? The world went saturated fat stupid. Fat. Bad. No. Fat. The right fat. Good. Doesn't take up space. It's sugar. High fructose corn syrup. Terrible, terrible, terrible stuff. There's nothing good about it. Okay. Let's see now. How much time do you got here? Oh, okay. Time's flying. Okay? And by the way, there's nothing that will hijack. Nothing that will hijack your weight loss when you're trying to lose weight than having fat packed up in your liver. It's not calories, guys. It's not calories for weight loss. It's what fuel you're using. Because insulin, remember, when you need insulin to break food down, to take sugar out of your bloodstream and store it, insulin is a growth hormone. When insulin is present in your bloodstream, I can tell you one thing. It's impossible to lose weight.

Think of insulin like a jail guard. It's not letting fat escape. Fat can't escape when insulin is present in your bloodstream. And when you have insulin resistance, insulin has a job to do. And if someone is eating the wrong foods, insulin will come knocking at your door of your cells no matter what. It has no choice. It has to do its job. And a diabetic, a diabetic's biggest problem really isn't the pancreas. Well, it is. Okay? I don't want to say it's not, but it's also the liver. For years, they were eating too much sugar and anything that turned to sugar, sugar molecules holding hands. The liver is so much involved in diabetes and pre-diabetes. I only started the teaching. Let's continue this tomorrow because there's so much to talk about. That organ that people don't even think of until it goes south, and it goes bad. Okay? And you get fatty liver. It's hard to diagnose that because sometimes even the enzymes are not showing up on the blood test. They will usually, but not always. And unless you're doing an ultrasound of the liver. This is why I'm so much into prevention. Empty it, man. Empty that liver. Watch out during the holidays. Okay? Watch out at this time of the year because people, we pack it on. We pack up that liver. Okay? Be careful with that. This all has to do with fuel. What fuel are you eating? Okay?

Okay, guys, we love you. We'll be on tomorrow morning, Lord willing. Okay? Tomorrow morning. We're on again. Okay? And then I'll wish you a real official Merry Christmas at the time. Okay? If you can join us tomorrow, great. You can always watch these things. Okay? Remember, all of these are turned to podcasts on The Doctor Is In. If you watch it live, good for you. But remember, you can go back and watch out the old ones. Listen to the old podcast. The doctor is in podcast. And millions have, and we appreciate that. Okay? We thank you for that. Okay? Remember the book. We got a book club. Rebuild Your Temple. Okay? We got a book club. And I'm going to go in there live in the new year. Okay? We'll do it once a week or so. Okay. We're going live in that group to do a little bit of a book review. Okay? Okay, guys. We love you dearly, sincerely, and every other way. Thank you for being such a great audience. Talk to you soon.
