Dr. Martin answers questions sent in by our listeners in today's episode.

TRANSCRIPT OF TODAY'S EPISODE

Announcer:  You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.

Dr. Martin:  Well, good morning everyone. Once again, welcome to another live this morning, a q and a. Always a fun time. We have really appreciate when you send your questions in q and a. Let's get to them right away and let's see, Jacque, how are you? Can you take too much Vitamin K two. Nope. Well look again, remember there's vitamin K one that's in the plant kingdom. There's vitamin K two that's in the animal kingdom, and the reason vitamin K two is so important is because vitamin K two is like a bouncer or a traffic cop. It takes calcium and puts it where it belongs. Calcium don't belong in your blood vessels. Calcium belongs in your teeth and your bones. Okay? A lot of people have trouble with that. You get osteoporosis. They take calcium as a supplement. Big mistake because the calcium don't get to its intended destination.

It will help clog up your arteries. You don't want that. That's why vitamin K two is so good. Now you know me, I always talk about eating vitamin K two because when you have cheese, you have Dr. Martin's perfect smoothie. You got vitamin K two, you have steak, vitamin K two with calcium eggs, vitamin K two with calcium. That's the way it was intended to be to get your calcium with vitamin K two because then calcium, you need calcium, very important, but it has to get to its intended destination, right? It's like jumping on the wrong airplane and landing in a different airport. You need calcium to get to your bones, okay? Okay. Can you overdose on K two? We put the exact right amount of K two in with our vitamin D. So when you take a vitamin D supplement, look, the best way to get vitamin D is in the sun.

20 minutes, 10,000 IUs. But the vast majority of people have to supplement that. They have to get on vitamin D. They have no choice. Why? Well, they don't get enough sun. They work indoors or whatever reason they can't get enough sun. A lot of people are scared of the sun. They don't know what they're talking about, but most people have to take vitamin D, but you better take it with K two, okay? But the best way to get K two is to eat it, okay? Is to eat it. I've never seen a case in all my years shock of someone overdosing on vitamin K two. I've never seen that. What would happen? I don't know. I've never seen that. Okay, Marie, what do I do for dry eyes? Navitol and high DHA. Nothing better for your eyes and nothing better for dry ice. Navitol y antioxidant elevates nitric oxide opens up your blood vessels.

You put that in with high DHA, which lubricates and very anti-inflammatory. I love high DHA guys. I was reading an article today, actually this morning early on, DHA and insulin. Well, we know that DHA high DHA lowers your triglycerides. It lowers your inflammation markers, CRP, but this new study was showing how it really helps to regulate insulin resistance. Probably like the way I look at it is probably because it lowers inflammation, inflammation at the cellular level. What it does, it's like smoke. The cells have trouble communicating with each other and therefore when insulin comes to the cell, if there's inflammation, it has trouble communicating with that cell and therefore you have insulin resistance. The cells say, Hey, insulin, get out of here. I'm not getting the right signal Anyway. That's my idea of why it works. There may be other reasons. Okay, that was Marie.

Nancy, I have CHF, which is heart failure. Okay? Why do you get that? Usually the heart muscle is weakened. The sack of the muscle of the heart, the pericardium is affected and your heart is weakened. Remember, it's a pump. Okay? Now let me see what you're asking. She'd been advised. Nancy's saying she'd been advised to limit her fluid intake. Okay? Would the two liters of water plus four coffees a day be mandatory for success on the reset? Well, it's not mandatory, okay? If you have trouble with, okay, because you have a heart failure, well then you don't have to necessarily drink two liters of water a day. Although I'll tell you, I find that, and this is me, I find that you need the water anyway. Two liters. People think that's a lot of, that's all a lot of water anyway. I hate to go against your doctor's recommendation, but look, water's essential on the reset.

Coffee is essential and I mean it, people think I'm joking. I'm not joking. It's one of the number one supplements I want you to take when you're on the reset and then you can enjoy it the rest of your life, okay? But when you have edema, you might have to moderate that fluid intake. Okay? Thank you Nancy. Chas. Chas has been diagnosed with ET extra aal. You come from another planet judge. I'm just kidding. Extensor 10 synovitis medicine. She has very painful and limited motion in her right hand. That's no fun. You got a lot of pain there. Usually that comes by injury, repetitious injury, right hand, and I used to see it in plumbers and electricians or whatever, and the right hand that millwrights, those type of people often got that. I really like an anti-inflammatory high. DHA. I really like Kirkman. They're all anti-inflammatory.

Natural. Let me see. Do you have any recommendations? Yeah, that's a recommendation. This is, well, look, the pain is inflammation for sure. Now, you might want to get some manual therapy on that too, Chaz. Okay, but cut out the sugar because sugar causes glycation and glycation of the tendons and that can be very inflammatory. Cut out the sugar. Sherry, how are you or cherry? Because it's with a C, not an S. I've been on Prolia. Okay? Prolia is a medication, usually injection, right? Prolia injections. I saw that a thousand times in my office over the years, and that's to build bone. You don't want to know what I think about that, Sherry? Okay? If you're on that, if that's up to you, you don't want to know what I think about Prolia. I don't like it. I never did and never will. Well, first of all, it doesn't build the right quality of bone that's been proven and then it comes with enormous amount of side effects.

Anywho, let's leave that aside. You're scared to come off of it. That's between you and your doctor, okay? I just never liked Prolia. I had a protocol, get strong, eat a lot of eggs, meat and cheese because that'll build your bones. Vitamin D with K two. That's what I did with patients, okay? Eat a lot of calcium. When you eat eggs, you eat calcium. When you eat meat, you eat calcium. When you eat cheese, you eat calcium. Dairy's got a lot of calcium in it with K two. Okay, listen to what Sherry or cherry, I think I'm going to say Sherry, but it could be cherry. Okay? She terrified to get off of it, but you're lifting weights. Good for you. Sprinting. Jumping, good for you. I take D three and K two and Omega-3. You're a smart girl. She eats lots of meat. Well, there you go. There you go. You're doing everything I want you to do, so you're very smart, okay?

As far as getting off, you got to make that decision, not me, okay? You got to make that decision, but you're doing everything right, Sherry, you really are. Okay, send me a note. Tell me how to, is it cherry or sherry? Okay, we love you dearly soup. My doctor says eating foods containing cholesterol like eggs isn't what raises cholesterol levels. Well, your doctor is right in a way and wrong in a way, let me tell you how 85% of your cholesterol is made by your body no matter what you eat, okay? Because God don't trust you. I've said that a million times. God doesn't trust you. What? Well, because men and women, they get stupid. They get stupid because they listen to nutritionists and they listen to doctors who tell 'em, don't eat meat meat's bad. It's acidic. Don't eat too many eggs because that'll give you cholesterol.

Okay? Now, if your doctor says, well, eating egg doesn't affect cholesterol at all. Well, they got 85% on their test. Had they said, well, eggs would only elevate by about 15% your cholesterol and 85% of it comes from your body. Then they would get a hundred percent on my tests. But you want to elevate your cholesterol. You want high cholesterol. Do you hear me? You want your cholesterol to be high. You just don't want your triglycerides to be high, but you want high cholesterol. You want to live longer. Cholesterol. You need cholesterol. That's why God doesn't trust you. He doesn't trust you to eat enough of it, so your body makes 85% of it. If your body's making 85% of your cholesterol, how can that be bad for you? How can cholesterol be bad for you? It's a scam. Lowering cholesterol, it's a scam, and we've been duped and it's been going on for a long time and I'm not holding my breath that will ever change. There's too much money involved.

They program doctors, they programmed them. It's in their DNA. You talk to a dietician, it's in their DNA cholesterol boogeyman. That's why they don't want you to eat too much butter. It's got cholesterol in it. Don't eat too much meat. It's got cholesterol in it. Don't have too many eggs. It's got cholesterol in it. Were they right? Well, gee, cholesterol levels have been going down for the last 50 years and we got more heart disease than ever. I get a migraine talking about it, this stupidity. Now, it's not your fault, Sue, it's not your fault, but I'm just telling you, I go on rants because I get uptight just looking for love in all the wrong places. It ain't eggs. What kills your heart? Sugar. What? Clogs up your arteries. Sugar, honey. Okay, thanks Sue. Don't be confused.

Thomas. Thomas has been on EMC eggs, meat and change for a few years now. You're a smart guy, Thomas. I'd take two cortisol and trying to get eight hours of sleep. Why would I feel sleepy after waking up the next day and feel like taking a nap? This has been going on for as long as I remember. I don't always get into a REM sleep. That could be a problem. Cortisol could be a problem. Thomas, you could be weird. I mean unique. I'm told not to use the word weird anymore, okay? No, listen, I've had patients like that sometimes that is hypoglycemia, low blood sugar, cortisol brought that sugar up too high, and then what goes up must come down and sometimes you develop a condition called hypoglycemia, low blood sugar. Get up ASAP, have some bacon and eggs, okay? Don't have sugar, bacon and eggs. Okay? How do you feel, Thomas? When you have a coffee, tell me. I need that answer, but if it's been going on as long as you can remember, I'm suggesting Thomas, that you're hypoglycemic in the morning. It's just the way it is. You got to fix that. Eat and eat the right foods.

And this is Cherry. Cherry Sheri. I dunno, I don't even know if it's the same person, although they spelt it to me. It's C-H-E-R-I. I would say that's Sheri. She says, I just read your email on uric acid. Thank you. Thank you for reading. My father-in-law struggles with this, okay? He has gout, right? Last time his hands were bad. He could not use them. He has blood work done and they were so very low and gout is gone. Well, look, so why are numbers high and then low? Well, that happens with uric acid. Okay? What we talked about in the email is that a lot of people have high levels of uric acid and get no symptoms of gout at all.

And I talked about this this week. Uric acid is a biomarker for metabolic syndrome according to Dr. Martin. Nowhere else, just me, but I think I'm right about it, okay? That's why I put it in there. It's a sign of metabolic syndrome. It's a sign of insulin resistance, and I tried to explain that this week in that uric acid is a byproduct of fructose more than anything else, and insulin resistance. And when you have insulin resistance, your kidneys cannot excrete that uric acid, but those levels can go high and you can get an attack where the crystals become inflamed in a joint and you take the blood test right at the time of attack and sometimes it's actually very low. So uric acid, blood numbers can fluctuate. They really can. I've seen that a lot in my days. Okay, so don't be confused by that. No, it's something else must be causing this.

No, it can be gout. He's got gout. Jerry, your father-in-law's got gout big time. Get off all the sugars, fix that. Insulin resistance. Okay? Really, really important. Alanis, last week you answered my question on silent acid reflux. Well, thanks for sending that in. A recommended aloe vera juice or can I use natural aloe vera gel alone? The gel? You want to swallow it? Well, if you want to lanis, you can. I get it. I haven't done it, but yeah, you want to swallow a little wee bit of it? Go for it. Okay, go for it, man. We got sherry cherries. Maybe I must be wrong about that. And now we have Sherry Ann. Hi Sherry Ann, our and listen, I love you girls. Okay? My son is 23. He had a good head of hair until 2020. He graduated from high school that year and he also had COVID.

Ever since then, he has been losing his hair. He is someone who carries stress. Okay? So get him on cortisol control, okay? He carries stress. He's got stress in his life, and some people that affects them more than others. That can be a big factor. Get him on bone broth. The best thing you can do for your hair is bone broth because of collagen. Collagen protein. The best collagen is bone broth protein. Get him to take Dr. Martin's perfect smoothie every day. That'll help. That'll help. Okay? Okay. That was Sherry Ann. Sally Ann, you said our stomachs can dissolve a penny with a stomach acid and I meant it or it should. Your stomach acid should, but a lot of people don't have enough acidity in their stomach. Sally Ann. Okay. Why is it that if I eat corn it can come out of my stool sometimes whole low stomach acid?

Possibly, or you just can't digest that corn. A lot of people can. Okay. You wouldn't be the only one. But I had corn on the cob last night fresh. Oh, it was excellent, man. I put so much butter on it. I could have slipped the rest of the night. I buttered that corn. If you're not getting any other problems, Sally Ann, I'm not too worried about it, but it's possible that your stomach may not be a acidic. Are you getting any other symptoms or is just Oh, if I eat corn, I see it in the toilet. Okay. Jeanine, what causes intermittent twitching of the upper eyelid? A couple of things. Could be magnesium deficiency often. I saw that in my office a lot. Just the twitching of the eyelid. I saw it with B12 deficiency. I saw it with sometimes potassium deficiency weren't getting enough.

Potassium electrolytes in general could happen. Thank you for that question janin. Laura, could you explain if eating walnuts or almonds are good for us as a quick little snack? Well, you ain't a squirrel. Laura. Look, every once in a while you want to have a few almonds. Just remember they're full of oxalates. If you want to lose weight though, lay off the nuts and seeds. You're not a squirrel. That's how they get fat. They run around all summer so that they can store nuts and seeds so that they get fat in the winter. Okay, look, I'm not against every month they ain't going to kill you, but in general, I don't even like snacking, to be honest with you. That's a big problem in our society today because people have been told to snack, rev up the engine and snack all. I don't like that.

Now, every once in a while you have a little snack. I'm not going to lose sleep over that. Okay? It's not the end of the world. Have some flax seeds, they're better for you anyways. Yeah, what I mentioned about almonds, it's one of the highest sources of oxalates. Oxalates are not good for women. Breast tissue oxalates aren't good for your kidneys. 75% of all kidney stones are oxalates. Okay? Eat more from the animal kingdom. That's what I would tell you Laura. Deborah, what is lupus? Well, lupus is autoimmune. Very serious disorder. It affects connective tissue. Usually with lupus you develop an allergy to the sun. I've seen that. You can't get sun. What caused it? Well, usually it started with leaky gut. I can just about guarantee it. Taking antibiotics as a baby sets a person up unless they regenerate that microbiome sets a person up for autoimmune as they get older.

Leaky gut and lupus is a connective tissue disorder. Very serious, often affects almost every hormone in the body. Okay, so how is it treated? Well, I always start whenever I saw a lupus patient, we fixed the gut first. Leaky gut. So probiotics, get 'em on EMC, get off the sugar so you're not feeding yeast because they're usually full of yeast and candida. Of course, fungus coming out their ears when I ever tested them. And so EMC lay off the sugars, digestive enzymes knit the gut with L-glutamine and bone broth digestive enzymes I used to get them on because that whole digestive track has to be fixed. Okay, thank you for the question. I appreciate it. Deborah. I'm going to get through this guys today. This is Margie. Margie. Margie, how are you? Please talk about mass cell activation syndrome. Diagnosis symptoms, treatment supplements. Well, Margie, I've seen it. Look, what are mast cells? Okay, MAST. They release histamine. Okay, so mast cells, when they get activated, they don't classify mast cell activation syndrome as autoimmune, but it really is. There's leaky gut for sure, for sure, for sure. Okay. There's also component with mast cell activation of stress.

Cortisol, wired but tired. Cortisol has a major effect on that. Cortisol gets you ready for the fight or flight that gets out of whack in mast cell activation. Okay? And you can get hives, you can get anxiety. Your immune system is overactivated. Like I said, they don't classify it as that as an autoimmune, but it really is sort of an autoimmune condition. Fix the gut. Start there. Get the cortisol down. Cortisol pours gasoline on the fire of that activation. Okay? I like cursin. I in mast cell activation. It really helps your mast cells. Okay? Probiotic obviously. Okay, Chris, I listened to you for the first time today. Well, Chris, welcome to The Doctor Is In Podcast and Chris did it because Laura told them about it. What did I tell you guys this week? You know why we have millions of downloads on the doctors in podcasts because you guys share it. You guys tell others about it. It's word of mouth mostly. Thank you for that. And Laura, thank you. You're a good friend to Chris.

When you talk about sugars, I would like to know if honey maple syrup dates are better to use for baking instead of white sugar. Okay, that is a tremendous question. Baking. I'm laughing, Chris, only because one of the big problems is baking. Look, 93% Chris of the population have a problem. They're on the Titanic. They're on the Titanic of metabolic syndrome, which is caused by insulin and insulin resistance. Okay? 93%. And that's not good in order to get off the Titanic, okay? It's important to make the vast majority of your food, EMC, eggs, meat and cheese, dairy, not milk, cream, cheese if there's baking occurring. Okay? Is it better to use honey or table sugar? Well, an unpasteurized honey, natural complete honey, look, there's a lot of nutrients in honey. If you're on the Titanic, I don't want you to have it, but when you compare it to table sugar, which is 50% fructose and 50% glucose, it's better. Okay?

It is better, but it's going to be a natural unpasteurized. Honey. It's got a lot of B vitamins. It's definitely better, but again, it will elevate your blood sugars. You need insulin now you need less, but you still need, you see what I'm saying? So yes, it's better. Maple syrup. Canada's got a lot of maple syrup. Okay? It's beautiful. Who doesn't like maple syrup? But I mean it's got natural sugar for sure. But again, I warn people, look, if you're going to have, and you're cooking or baking and you want to like for your grandchildren or whatever, and it's better to put some maple syrup in there than to put sugar in there, it's better to put honey in there, natural honey in there. And I don't mean maple syrup and Jem mouse, although they changed the name of that, didn't they? I don't mean that stuff. That's liquid pipe fructose corn syrup, the antichrist of sugars. Okay, but do you guys have maple syrup in the USA? Okay, I just know Canada's famous for it. Okay, but you don't want to live on that stuff. My word, but not in this day and age. Not in this day. But honey is good. It is better for you, but you just got to figure out if you're in that 93% of the population.

If you are, I would avoid, okay, I would avoid. Thanks for the question, Chris. And thank you Laura for telling Chris to listen to the doctors in, okay, Lori, my friend eats three Brazil nuts a day to help with the thyroid. Is there any truth in it? Well, Brazil nuts have selenium. And you guys have heard me talk about selenium. Look, everybody and their dog, if you just Google natural thyroid, you'll read about iodine. Everybody and their dog knows about iodine and your thyroid doesn't work without it. But what they don't talk about very much is the importance of selenium. Now, I always have, because I know that the thyroid doesn't work properly without selenium. And selenium. You can find in eggs, meat, and cheese. Okay, you want to have a few Brazilian nuts? Go for it. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

But you get selenium in the animal kingdom and you get the most bioavailable selenium when you have a piece of cheese, when you eat eggs, when you eat meat, steak has a lot of selenium in it. That's why it's so good for your thyroid. Has iodine too. Perfect food, vitamin S. Thank you Laurie. And the last question today, Courtney, I'm wondering what Dr. Martin's thoughts are on half and half. Well, better than milk because milk is too sweet. They take the fat out of it. It's the fat in dairy that's good for you. It's the protein in dairy that's good for you. Even yogurt's got a little bit of sugars. Dairy's got a little bit of sugar, but that is negated. Okay? That's negated by all the fat and protein in dairy. That's why I love dairy. I don't particularly like grocery store milk. So half and half is better for sure. It's better. It's got cream. It's fat. And fat don't make you fat. Okay? Now, Zevia, Z-E-V-I-A is a Stevia flavored soda. Yeah, I've seen it. Carbonated water. Look, I don't mind carbonated water. I don't mind it. Okay. I like carbonated water, but I don't use it as my water. I use it as a treat.

I don't want to have a soda. So I have carbonated water as my treat. I use it as a treat. So zevia as a treat, I got no problem with that. You want that, but that's not water only water is water. And spring water is the best water. So you want to put a little bit of Stevia. Look, Stevia is, I get it. I got no problem with Stevia in a sense. I just don't particularly like it for me taste wise. But Stevia, if you want to have carbonated water, a little bit of flavored water, that's a treat, guys. But don't use it as hydration. It's not the same. Okay, got the memo. Good. Okay, guys, I think I've answered everyone. I think I did. Okay, so Monday will be regular program won't be q and a unless you send me a million questions before. Okay? We love you guys. Thanks again for being the best friends to this program. You have no idea how much we appreciate you. Talk to you soon.
