TRANSCRIPT OF TODAY'S EPISODE
Announcer: You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.
Dr. Martin: Well good morning everyone. How are you? And once again, welcome to another live this morning. Hope you're having a great start to your day. We certainly are, and appreciate your attendance for those who can come on live with us. It's always fun. Now, I had a question that was asked in the private Facebook group, okay? "What does Dr. Martin think about butyrate and does he have that in his products?" Well, butyrate, it's produced in the gut. It really is important for your microbiome, your friendly bacteria especially. It's a byproduct. Okay? And when I saw the question, I was happy to answer it. I said, each steak and drink coffee because that actually elevates your butyrate, okay? And I mean it.
Now there's a study and I went and looked at this because I talked about it before. So I had to go back in my notes and say, okay, let me find that study on butyrate and something I didn't mention the other day is vitamin D. Do you know the sun, vitderma? Remember we coined vitamin D vitderma on this program that the sun produces butyrate. Now that's BUT, but Y-R-A-T-E, I don't know how you pronounce it. Butyrate. Somebody had to correct like people are correcting me every day. It's not Mira-michi, it's Mira-machi, New Brunswick. And we have a lot of followers out there. And they had to correct me on how to pronounce it right. I remember, I think it was Doc McEwen. I mean, she had to straight me out on autophagy because I was mispronouncing it. But who's the police? I don't know how you to pronounce stuff.
Anyway, so butyrate, butterate, I don't know what you call it. Eight. It's good for you. Your body produces it. It's a byproduct of that friendly bacteria. And when you eat steak, you're feeding your good bacteria. When you drink coffee, you're feeding your good bacteria. When you get out in the sun, you are feeding your good bacteria. Isn't that great? Helps to produce good bacteria. It protects you from leaky gut. And yesterday we talked about the Trojan horse. What they don't teach in medical school. Imagine that they don't teach candida albicans, one of the biggest scourges, one of the biggest toxins inside the body. Candida yeast, fungus. We talked about SIBO actually being renamed here at the Martin Clinic, SIFO, small intestine fungal overgrowth. This is a major issue today, folks. The overuse of antibiotics. It affects almost everything.
And you know me, I talked about this being life-changing even for kids because it's a big factor in autism, leaky gut, toxins getting into the bloodstream. And one of the worst toxins that get into the bloodstream is yeast. It's very toxic, but it's not a quick death. It's slow. It's a slow progressive. And again, I talked about leaky gut, leaky brain. Yeast will cross the blood brain barrier. I think it's a major, major factor in MS. It's why we see today, Ozzy Osborne. Okay? Ozzy Osborne died. He was 75 or 76, but what did he have? Parkinson's, and Parkinson's today is, look, as long as I've been around, there's been Parkinson's, but it used to be rare. Now it's not rare anymore. And I'm telling you, I look at the origin of this stuff, leaky gut, the invasion of the third army carrying toxins up into the brain.
Mercury, big problem in Parkinson's. Mercury, lead, cadmium, big, big problems in neurodegenerative. We see so much more neurodegenerative conditions, Parkinson's being one of them. And upon autopsy, when they look at the brain, they go, gee, they never got a lot of heavy metal. But how did it get there? It had to be carried across the blood-brain barrier. How did it get into the brain? And I say this, okay, this is me. You put heavy metals, and by the way, high fructose corn syrup has a lot of mercury in it. You put that with leaky gut where you have the invasion of the candida, add sugar to feed the bears, and especially high-fructose corn syrup, they reproduce like rabbits and yeast grows. And it's not like you got a big sign saying you got yeast or fungus. Candida. Another word for it.
Guys, whenever you think of yeast, think of mold because they're cousins, okay? Those are all expressions over the years on my radio show and the podcast The Doctor Is In, okay? Mold, everybody knows about mold, right? Mold that is dangerous. You get it in your basement, you get water damage, you get it in your bathrooms. Well, that's mold. Is mold good for you? Nah, can be very toxic, especially black mold. Very toxic. People die of black mold. But then you have the more insidious, yeast, fungus. It's a carrier. I see it every day. I'm very observant. Okay? I've got two eyeballs and I'm very observant. You see, skin conditions, the vast majority are fungal based. They have leaky gut, leaky skin. Have I ever seen any autoimmune? Somebody was asking the other day about Sjogren's. Have I ever seen autoimmune without leaky gut, without fungus?
This is why, guys the reset is so good, okay? One of the reasons the reset is so good. The number one thing is you're lowering insulin. If you don't have a lot of sugar in your blood, insulin takes a holiday. And at the cellular level, your mitochondria, they love it because you changed fuels. You went from glucose to ketones, and your cells are giving you high fives, okay? They want to give you a high five because they love that. Your mitochondria will go woohoo you're giving me jet fuel. When you eat an egg, I hope you had eggs this morning. When you have bacon, sausage, steak, even chicken, okay? No, but I'm serious guys. And then dairy, you get the CLA in dairy. Conjugated linoleic acid in butter, in cream, okay? In cheese. You know how good that is for you? Your cells love it. Plus you're not feeding the bears.
I got t-shirts, don't feed the bears, okay? Don't feed the bears. And people go, what are you talking about? Because who the heck would feed a bear? But you know what I mean by that? Sugar feeds yeast, the fungus. So when you switch out, and this is why some people get what they call a die off, okay? There's a couple of reasons. You're changing fuels, you're going from burning carbohydrates mostly and glucose to now burning ketones. It's a different fuel. It's high rocket fuel. Well, some people, you get a little bit of a change like that, especially in fuel, and you might not feel good for a couple of days on the reset. And the other reason is you're probably getting a die off. Well, your yeast is dying and they feel like they're the last of the Mohicans and they get mad. You're not feeding me. What are you doing? We're dying here. Feed us sugar, because that's what they survive on, guys.
Then you're getting in the sun with vitderma and you're creating even more butyrate. And the friendly bacteria are giving you high fives because they're getting fed. Now they start killing the yeast. You see the recipe here guys? And this is why, imagine I said it yesterday, but imagine it blows me away that in medical school they still don't teach candida. I've known about candida since the 1970s. In alternative medicine, we learn it. I'm looking at all the books that I wrote up to. I think we're at 24. I can't think of a book that I wrote that I didn't talk about leaky gut and yeast and fungus, even in chronic fatigue syndrome because really that is an autoimmune disorder. And adrenal gland exhaustion and yeast plays a big part. That's why I am a big, big proponent of you guys know this, diet. Start there.
If you don't want to take any supplements, what can I tell you? If you don't take a probiotic, I don't know what to say to you. I really don't. I try and encourage that because I'm into prevention guys. And if I didn't do it myself, and if I didn't believe it, and if I didn't see leaky gut the way I saw it in my office. I saw more yeast, than you can shake a stick at and people, what are you talking about? You got fungal, you got a yeast. It's taking over your body, it's crawling around all your tissue. It's very insidious, but you don't want that. Remember guys, it's a cousin of mold. So what's that mean? It loves moisture. Why do you think it loves your sinuses? It loves the lungs, loves the skin, and it comes out and then you folks are, they get on autoimmune disorder and they're given a steroid, maybe prednisone, but that makes yeast just take off like bonfire and antibiotics. They're one of the main causes in the first place.
So this is why guys, like what do you do? And the protocol to kill fungus starts with the diet. You want to kill it. You don't want to feed it. Killing it involves don't feed it. One, it lives off sugar. It lives off something that can get quick. When a kid is hungry, give me, give me food right away. You don't have time to prepare it, but that's the way yeast talks to you, feed it. And a lot of cravings people get, a lot of the cravings that people get is yeast saying, hey you, feed me. So don't feed it. Start with that. Probiotics and feed the good bacteria. Okay? So they call that prebiotic and guys, sometimes you think I don't know about that stuff? I've been talking probiotic people. I'll tell you, I don't think there's anybody. I'm sure there was, but nobody with a public venue like me, were talking about probiotics as long as I am.
When people thought I had two heads, this guy is crazy. And I used to try and tell my patients would you shut up because they go to their doctors and say, Dr. Martin says I got candida, I got yeast and the doctor go, that quack. I heard Dr. Martin on the radio talking about fungus and yeast. Oh, would you quit listening to that kook? You know how many times I heard that? Whenever I wrote a book, not only did I have my own radio show, I did a lot of other radio shows once a week in a lot of places in Ottawa and Windsor and Toronto and you name it. I did a lot of radio show over and I talk about leaky gut. And it was, what are you talking about? And I was preaching about the overuse of antibiotics and the Trojan horse coming into the bloodstream, getting into the gut and starting big time problems with your health.
And there have been some, and you know this. I've said this on this program before that say that fungus, yeast is at the root of all cancer. I don't know about that, but it's a factor. It's a factor. Don't feed it. Get in the sun. Vitamin D, you can't get in the sun, take vitamin D. It helps in the gut. It helps knit your gut. It helps stop the leak. Feed your bacteria. You're taking a probiotic. Feed it. Eat steak. Drink coffee. What? I know you guys. He goes, I'm giving you gifts from heaven. Gifts. I remember with patients, okay? Because you have to understand that patients, I was turning them upside down. Okay? So I said, look, you're going to go home and you can have, you like steak? I love steak. My doctor told me not to eat it. But your doctor doesn't know anything about nutrition. You should have gone to your plumber. Your plumber would've given you better advice than your doctor. Your doctor is telling you to eat grains. Your doctor is telling you to eat in moderation. Your doctor doesn't know what he's talking about. They didn't study nutrition. So why didn't you go to your plumber?
So I used to tell my patients, you like steak? Oh, I love steak. Eat it. You like hamburger? I love hamburger. Well eat it. Just leave the bun alone. Okay? I think I can do that. You like bacon? I love bacon. But doc, what about? Don't start because they were going to ask about cholesterol. I said, what about it? Cholesterol is good for you. What? You like bacon? I love bacon. You like eggs? Yeah. Well leave the toast alone and the home fries, you don't need them. Leave them off the plate. You can eat that stuff. I've had a few people, not many, a few. Dr. Martin, I get tired of bacon and eggs. I don't know. I've been eating bacon and eggs or sausages and eggs for the last 70 years. I'm not tired of it. I have coffee every day, every day, seven days. I don't take any days off on coffee. Why would I? I've been telling you guys for a century how good coffee is for you. You must admit, oh, that Dr. Martin, he might be crazy, but he's consistent.
Coffee feeds your good bacteria. How many years have I been telling you this? Yeast hates coffee? Yeast hates steak. It hates eggs. It hates them because they don't get fed. Diet. Okay, I'm pounding down, diet. You want to get rid of that yeast in your body. You got SIBO, you don't have SIBO, you have SIFO. You got fungus there. The bacteria is only underneath. It's not the main problem. It's a yeast. It's a fungal overgrowth. A hundred percent. Don't feed it. Get in the sun. Take probiotics, add oil of oregano. Okay? We put it right in our digestive enzyme. People have said, and they're mistaken about this.Okay? Am I the only guy that says it? I don't know, but I've been saying it for a long time. Oil of oregano can be taken every day. It's a spice. It don't kill your friendly bacteria. It feeds them. It feeds them. Your friendly guys. The bad guys, they don't like oil of oregano. Yeast hates oil of oregano. You can take it every day.
And I know you go to a health food store or whatever and they tell you limit it because they're thinking antibiotic. Yeah, but it's a natural one. It don't kill your friendly bacteria. It feeds your good bacteria. It feeds them. And I know I'm going to get pushback because you got trained, but you got trained by the wrong people. I'm telling you, I was the king of oil of oregano in my radio show days. The staff at the radio station say you want to hear an answer. Just say, oil of oregano. Dr. Martin is always going to say it. Well, yeah, I do. Look, there's other natural antibiotics, but there's nothing like oil of oregano. It's the king of the castle. And again, for fungal, get rid of it. Keep your liver clean. Keep your liver clean. How do you do that? Well, diet, again, it goes back to the diet. But when your liver is clean. How do you clean your liver guys? Empty the fat.
Fat, by the way, I got fat right in front of me here. Let me take it out and show it to you. You know what the problem with this is? I got five pounds. Look at this. Okay, doc, I only lost five pounds of fat. I only lost five pounds. And then in my office, in my weight loss clinic, I go, you mean you only lost this? A foot long and six inches wide of fat? And I'd show 'em this. I said, you did good. You did good because when you eat enough protein, when you eat eggs, meat and cheese, the only thing you're burning is fat. You're putting this log on the fire. But here's what else happens. Okay? Here's what else happens. This stuff here, okay? This stuff here, fat accumulates toxins. Toxins, yeast carries toxins. But when you eat the right foods, you empty the liver. All your blood's got to go through the liver from the gut. It's going to get filtered, it's going to get cleansed if it's not all full of fat. Otherwise it accumulates and toxins end up in that liver.
Guys, when you empty the fat, you're giving yourself a huge, huge detox that really helps. Where do you get rid of candida the most? Liver. Liver. Not eating liver, although that's good for you, okay? You can eat liver. I don't know why you would eat liver when you can have a steak. I don't understand that, but I understand nutritionally the value of it. I certainly do. I just don't like it. I don't like the taste of it. I'm a big baby. Okay, so what do you do? Don't feed the bears. Eat steak. Drink coffee. Clean your liver. Get in the sun. Oil of oregano. Did I miss anything? Can't remember. I'm getting old.
Guys, I got excited today. I don't even know why. Okay, thanks for coming on, guys. And remember, guys, what's Friday? Friday's Q and A. We come back to it every week. And some days, two days a week, because you're asking your, and actually, I started the day answering a question that came up on our private Facebook group. I happened to notice it about butyrate. And I said, okay. I answered right away because I saw it and I said, people don't even know what that is. But I said, okay, let me answer it. And then I knew there was a study that I had read about it on vitamin D and the gut and butyrate. Okay?
Okay, guys, we love you. Share this. It's a good topic on candida. Let the world know why we're the number one podcast on health in Canada, and we want to be number one in the States too. And I think by far, the number one live on Facebook for health and it ain't even close. Okay? And again, I thank my audience. I thank you guys for coming on. What and where would we be without our audience, you guys, and the smartest audience. Yep. You guys the smartest. I can't even give you a test. But you all got your honorary PhDs in nutrition. Love you, talk to you soon.
