TRANSCRIPT OF TODAY'S EPISODE

Announcer:  You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.

Dr. Martin:  Well, good morning everyone. Once again, welcome to another live this morning. Hope you're having a great start to your day. And we certainly appreciate you guys coming on with us when you can come on live and we love you dearly, and you know that. Laura says, "after a colonoscopy," okay, that's pleasant. "How many probiotics does Dr. Martin recommended for how long, please?" That's a very good question, Laura. I used to tell my patients, you going in for a colonoscopy? Look, you're going to wipe out just about every bacteria that you own, okay? Between the preparation and that scope, you better replace that. So what I recommended for a good month was six of our probiotic to replenish. Six a day, then three a day for a couple of months. And if you're good, go down to one a day. But I recommended six and I recommend six by the way, if you're taking an antibiotic, I recommend six probiotics. Do it for a month. Just replace that bacteria.

And guys, I don't care what anybody says, you're not going to get a better probiotic than our probiotic. And I'll tell you why. Because it takes eight weeks to make every strength. It is so resistant to the stomach acidity. I'll tell you, I used to say this when I was in practice all the time. Most probiotic, don't even get past the stomach. Well, probiotic, just staying in the stomach ain't doing you much good. You got to get it into the bowel and get it into where it can stop leaky gut and replenish that microbiome. Okay? So six, if you're doing a colonoscopy, as soon as you're done, six a day for a good month, okay? And I know that it's not inexpensive, I understand that, but you got to replace that microbiome. The more we study the microbiome, the more I'm telling you it is a huge, huge consideration in disease of all kind and your immune system, the way you digest and mental health. We talked about probiotics. My word, okay, thanks Laura.

Rose, "in your opinion, Dr. Martin, are there possibly exceptions to that chronic anxiety report that I gave where I mentioned four deficiencies, B12, vitamin D, depression, magnesium, probiotics." Okay. Yeah, there's exceptions. There's always exceptions. Okay? So Rose, look at my thumb. Okay? You see my thumb? I got my own fingerprint there. There's 8 billion people on the planet and no one has my fingerprint. No one, no one's got my DNA. Okay? You're unique. I don't want to say Rose, you're weird, but you're unique. I can't say weird anymore. So I say you're unique. Yes, there's always exception, Rose. If you're feeling good and you're taking those supplements and you've been diagnosed with, wait a minute, I was born that way. Hey, that's all right. You're doing everything you can Rose to keep yourself healthy. Put everything on your side. And yeah, there's always exceptions, always exceptions, especially in medicine, always exception. Thanks Rose for the question. You're a highly sensitive person, okay? That's who you are. Keep yourself healthy.

Wendy, "is the carrageenan." I don't even know how you say it, "in cream, bad for you?" Okay, now I'm going to take a step back and tell you, okay, this is my philosophy, okay? You have to understand that. Okay? So you come into my office, when I was in practice, I diagnosed that you were either diabetic, pre-diabetic, you had metabolic syndrome, you were part of the 93% of the population that had insulin resistance. And I would send you on your way to change your life. And I always gave people a plan to succeed, not to fail. Okay? So my illustration, Wendy, is this, you're on the Titanic. Don't worry about the deck chairs. Let's turn the ship around. Okay? Let's get onto the lifeboat because you're in deep trouble. So I used to tell people I give you a plan to succeed. So you go home, eggs, meat, and cheese. I want you to do this for 30 days. This way you're not going to have any sugar. I'm going to help you to fix your insulin resistance. Do you understand what I'm saying? And you can have cream in your coffee, not milk, or you can do a meal replacement with some heavy cream, not milk. I wanted that fat, the dairy. Okay?

Now you go to the grocery store and you get, did I ever tell you the story? It was a true story in practice. I told this lady, okay? I said, look, you can have cream. She said, you're kidding me? Yes, you can have cream. Make yourself a smoothie. Dr. Martin's perfect smoothie with 35% whipped cream. Okay? She left my office and went to Costco. It was just up the street, okay? The true story, this is several years ago, and she got, I think it was ten. You know that Costco, everything's bigger, ten 35% whipped cream in her basket. And then she's going through the cash and the lady's looking at her, the cashiers at Costco's looking at her like, lady, what the heck? And the lady didn't say anything, but she said something to the cashier. She said, Dr. Martin told me I can have this. And the cashier was a funny story. The cashier said, I really want to meet this Dr. Martin. Do you mean this is actually good for you? Because you know how people are 35% whipped cream. It's full of fat. Fat makes you fat. Fat will elevate your cholesterol. That ain't good for you. Okay?

And then she hears, oh, Dr. Martin says the cream's good for you. Well, sure it is. Now, if you look at most heavy creams, they put this carrageenan, keean, whatever you call it, okay? Now I know you don't have to tell me. I know this, that it's probably not the best. They put it in as a preservative and a thickening agent. Look, you can Google it and see it's not. And some people, they get so uptight. And I used to tell 'em, look, let me get you off the Titanic first, or turn the boat around and then we can take care of the deck chairs. Do you know what I mean by that? Then as you get healthy again, there's healthier choices even in the cream, okay? And I know that, okay, you didn't have to tell me that. I know that. Okay? But just understand where I'm coming from. I'm trying to get people to change their life. And when you put too many rules and regulations in, here are the rules. Everything's got to be organic. Everything's got to be a grass fed beef. And if it isn't any kind of that, then don't touch it. Look, that's all right. If you want to live that way, go for it and I'll back you up. But just understand that I'm talking to, listen, we're over 5 million people that have downloaded Facebook, The Doctor Is In podcasts. I talk to the masses. I don't want them to get into the weeds to start. Don't get into weeds. I can prove to you that in 30 days you can lower your A1C, lower your triglycerides, elevate your HDL cholesterol, lower your inflammation markers, okay? I am looking at the big picture guys.

And when you want to get into the weeds, that's all right. As long as you're healthy and you want to get into the weeds, then you read every label. I encourage that. Find better choices. I encourage that. But you got to understand my teaching. If you don't understand that, you're going to go, well, Dr. Martin, what an idiot he is. Look, I had to get results, and I know enough about human psyche, human psychology, okay? You ask Dr. McEwen, a psychology professor at the University of Tennessee, a dear friend, you ask her, okay, it takes 21 days to form a habit. And when people are on the Titanic, I want to get them off of that and the direction they're going in, their health in their life, make big changes and then you can get into the minutia. Do you understand what I'm saying here? I know you do. So look, you can ask me and I'll agree with you, but a little bit of carrageenan because I want you drinking water and coffee, okay? And if you put a little cream in your coffee, don't put milk in there. That's all I'm saying. Don't put sugar, don't put milk, put some cream, and you can get better creams. No doubt about it. Okay? Thanks for the question. It got me on a diatribe. It got me talking about my philosophy. Wendy, thanks for the question.

Lee. "I had an ultrasound done last week and a test showed left kidney abnormal caliectasis. Not sure what it is." Well, it's an inflammation inside the kidney and can form little pouches inside the kidney. It's almost like diverticulosis in the bowel. You can get diverticulosis in the kidney, okay? And that can get to be serious. You're much more susceptible to getting kidney stones. And what do you do about it? Here's two things for kidneys, drink water. Niagara Falls. There's no vitamin like vitamin W for kidneys, water flush. And you might even need more water because of a caliectasis. Okay? And number two, lay off sugar. Nothing destroys your kidneys like sugar does lay off of it. Okay? Thanks for the question. And that was Lee.

Jacob, "phlegm in the lungs." Well, no fun. Usually, okay, you might have a little bit of mold in the lungs. I've seen that. Candida, yeast in the lungs. It might be coming from your sinuses, postnasal drip, getting down into the lungs. But a lot of times, Jacob, you and I like quercetin. I like probiotics. If check your sinuses, because you may be getting that post nasal drip and going into the lungs, or you have an actual, a little bit of mold. No sugar, oil of oregano, probiotics, very important and some quercetin. Jacob, thank you very much. I see a lot of that. I used to see a lot of that. June. Hey, June. Her husband's 77 years old. A lot of mucus. There you go. Same answer. Okay, same answer. A lot of mucus. He's got CPAP machine. Yep, yep, yep. Watch your insulin, inflammation. Okay, that was June. Thank you June. And thank you Jacob.

Okay, Caroline, "what can I do about combating hyponatremia?" You know what hyponatremia is? Low levels of salt, sodium, okay, hypo, low sodium. Okay? A lot of people have that, by the way. That's why I recommend salty foods. And I recommend adding salt to everything, including your water. June. Now, you might be the type of person June that actually needs an electrolyte. You can get high sodium electrolytes you add to your water or whatever. I'm a big guy on Himalayan salt and put it on everything and get some salty sausages. They're good. Get those Italian meats. I married an Italian. Those meats they preserve in salt. So good for you. Really good for you. Okay? So that's what I would do, Caroline. And you might, if you are going on the reset, some people use electrolytes. You can use salt. Caroline, we appreciate that question. Thank you very, very, very much.

Brenda has no gallbladder, okay? And she's worried. And wait a minute, why is she worried? Okay? And she's on digestive enzymes. Smart girl. She's morbid. After so many years, does this turn to stomach cancer? No. No. You're preventing it. You're taking digestive enzymes, you're helping your stomach. I take digestive enzymes every day, and especially with. Look at the label of our digestive enzyme. Okay? I think I can't even remember what they call it anymore. It's so good for you. Designed by the Martin Clinic. It's got everything in there and all the protease, all the lipases, all the amylase. It just helps your digestion. And you know what I would tell you, Brenda. Lay off the sugar, okay? Be careful. Maybe you got no gallbladder, but you're using digestive enzymes. And what else did you say you were doing? Betaine and ox bile, yeah. I'd never been one much for ox bile or betaine. I like the digestive enzymes better, but you're not hurting yourself and you're doing everything. Look, you want to avoid cancer. Make sure your vitamin D is up. You want to avoid cancer, make sure you're not eating sugar. Like lay off the sugar as much as possible, okay? And don't worry so much. Brenda, thank you for the question. We love you dearly.

Douglas, "is dying your hair bad for one's health, like using Revlon products?" Well look again, okay, I'm going to go back to my "raison d'etre". I'm going back to the way I operate. You and I, okay, Doug, we don't live in a perfect world. Now when you are putting chemicals in your hair, well, right on your scalp, some of that stuff's getting into your bloodstream, okay? It is like anything you put on your skin, some of it gets into your bloodstream. And that's one of the big reasons I don't like sunscreens because it's going to get into your bloodstream. Some of it, not all of it, some of them, your body has a protective layer there, but nonetheless. So again, there are alternatives out there for hair dyes. And I'm not telling people they can't dye their hair. Anyway. You got me laughing this morning, Doug.

Okay, Sandy, "how can we detect microplastics in your body?" Well, it's look, I mean, there are some tests that you can do to check it out, but you're not going to get it done anywhere that I know of. I know they know how to detect them, but you probably have to send your blood off to a lab somewhere. And I used to do it for heavy metal. I used to do it myself for heavy metal in the office. I had testing there for heavy mercury, lead, cadmium. We used to check all that aluminum in the bloodstream. But let me say this, Sandy, how do you get rid of microplastics? Okay? You're not going to totally get rid of them. I'm sorry. I said this a thousand times. We live in an imperfect world. I don't care where you go. I don't care if you go to Mount Everest or you go to Costa Rica, you're going to have some plastics. They're everywhere. So my idea is not the plastics. Okay, I'll leave that to the environmental people. My idea is you having a great immune system to get rid of the plastics in your body.

And I've taught on this many a time. The best thing you can do, keep your liver clean. Keep the Costco parking lot clean, the liver, because you make glutathione. We talked about that this week even. Glutathione, when you eat eggs, meat and cheese, you empty your liver. Liver gets gummed up like the Costco parking lot when you're eating sugars, fructose, high fructose corn syrup. Okay? So keep your liver empty because your liver produces glutathione and glutathione will Velcro microplastics to it. Okay? One. The other is your gut, leaky gut, leaky skin, leaky gut, leaky lungs, leaky gut, leaky brain, leaky gut, leaky joints, leaky gut, leaky everything. Fix the zipper, keep stuff out of your bloodstream, fix the zipper. Fix the border between your blood and your gut, your gut blood barrier and your blood brain barrier. Microbiome, friendly bacteria, the ones that are on your side. Bone broth because of L-glutamine, knits and fixes the zipper. Okay? Got it?

That's a great question because I want to go over it again. Okay? Plastic bottles are okay to drink from. Well, not the best. And there's a lot of alternatives to what to drink your water from. But I'm just telling people when people take care of themselves, I got no problem with that. But the big picture is I don't care if you drink out of a glass bottle or whatever, better, but you ain't getting away from plastics, okay? You just ain't. So you can help, but you better work inside out first. That's the key. It's like when the virus was around, remember the virus that everybody wore a mask and stayed indoors and didn't go to school? And what was I saying? Is anybody going to talk about the immune system? We're always going to have viruses. We're always going to have the flu season. There's always viruses and bacteria running around. Oh, the swine flu and this flu and that thing, and bird flu and this thing. The only way I get uptight is when I see the stupidity of people, and I always said this, don't let the public health officials run the world because they'll close the world down. They'll close it down. People don't realize you have an immune system. Take care of that. Okay? Thank you very much. You got me going, Sandy.

Gail, "my naturopath said keto wreaks havoc on hormones over time." Well, Gail, hello. Your naturopath doesn't know what they're talking about that keto. Keto is what? Now, look, I'm not a keto guy. What they say is keto, okay? Because then you can eat keto foods. They're just low carb and a lot of it is just a bunch of crap. I'm a whole food guy. Eggs, whole food, meat, whole food, dairy, whole food, okay? Cheese, butter, cream, whole food full of vitamins, full of minerals, full of everything, okay? If your naturopath is saying that's no good for you over time and going to hurt your hormones, just the opposite is true. Now, if they're saying that keto, you go to Costco and you get keto foods in the middle aisles there, I agree with that in a way because there's a lot of crap in those foods. But ketosis, when you're burning, you're not eating or you're eating very little carbohydrate and you're into ketosis. Atkins was right. I studied under him, he was right. Lower your carbohydrates.

So your naturopath. You know how many tens of thousands of people that I helped or fix their horror-mones with a diet? So I don't know exactly what your naturopath said, but I'm sorry if they said that ketosis ain't good for you. They don't know what they're talking about, okay? And you can say it to them and said I said it, but again, maybe that's not exactly what they said. I have done the reset, Gail said, and my A1C is 5.4. Gail, you're a superstar. You're a superstar. You got your A1C down, you're a superstar. There was commercials all over, team giving each other high fives. I got my cholesterol down. I got my cholesterol down. Well, you know what? That's stupid. How about getting your A1C down? Now that's smart, okay? Love you dearly. Thank you, Gail. Okay, let me just see here. I might not get to all of them. Hey, because I talk too much. And that was Gail. And then Gail, there's another Gail here. Or maybe the same Gail. Okay, naturopath again wants me to start berberine, okay? But I'm hesitant because I have severe allergies to a lot of different foods. How safe is it? Berberine? Well, berberine is safe. I like other stuff better than berberine, but it helps to regulate your blood sugar. But Gail, if you are the same Gail, and your A1C is 5.4, you don't need berberine, you eat eggs, meat, and chase. Okay? I don't know. Might not be the same, Gail.

Okay, Ornella, "my blood work is showing my pH to be six". Ornella. Are you sure your pH is six and you're not dead? You see Ornella I think you're reading it wrong now. You send it to me info@martinclinic.com. Okay, that says your pH is six. I don't think so because your pH in your blood is tightly regulated. If you're down into six, usually you're into ketoacidosis. It's not ketosis, it's ketoacidosis. And then you're in trouble. And you're dying. Okay? Now, maybe your saliva is six, okay? Maybe your urine is six pH, but usually the body will keep you in that 7.2 slightly alkaline blood. So all I got to say is, are you sure Ornella? Okay. Are you sure it's your blood pH? Because that would tell me that your ketoacidosis, are you a diabetic? And if you are and your pH is there, you're in doo doo, get to the hospital. Okay, that was Ornella, but Ornella, send it to me. Send me your blood work info@martinclinic, I need to, because I guess it's possible. I don't think so. I think it should be over seven.

Stephanie, "our 20-year-old son often has nosebleeds". Well, it could be a couple of things. It could be inside the nasal passage, very dry. Try steaming, get, not a dehumidifier, but a humidifier. A lot of times it's not. It can be, I've seen it where they can be slightly anemic, low levels of B12. I mean, you got to check it out Steph. There's too many things that it might be and high blood pressure, but 20. Well, maybe I've seen it. Okay, could have high blood pressure, and you get nosebleeds. That's dangerous. But it's not the first thing I think of a 20-year-old boy, but maybe it's possible. Okay, check it out.

Laura, "could you please respond to." What? Yeah, I am glad I got to this one because apparently I missed this, "ALT test." Okay, liver test of 52. Well, that's high. Okay, ALT, anything over 30, I think I'd have to look at it again. Anyway, Laura, you got any other issues? Was all your other blood work good and only that? Well, then it could be you had a little bit of inflammation in the liver. ALT is mostly made in the liver and it mostly indicates that you might have to start a fatty liver, but it can be even an infection or inflammation elsewhere. I've often seen people with rheumatoid arthritis, for example, that their ALT liver enzymes are high. And it's not so much their liver, but it's the inflammation. So Laura, what you could do, send me an info@martinclinic.com. Send me an email if you got any. If you're feeling good, and that was the only negative test, I wouldn't be too worried about it. But if you're a good eater, you're getting rid of fatty liver. So like I said, give me some more detail of how you're doing, how you're feeling, what were the other tests, and I give you a better answer. Okay?

And let's do one more. Melissa. "Can Dr. Martin do a podcast on C15?" The new essential fatty acid. Look, Melissa. Okay, I talk about C 15 all the time. It's a fatty acid, but it's in dairy. Don't ditch dairy. Switch it. I don't want you drinking milk, but I want you to eat cheese and butter. That's how you get C 15. Do you need to take a supplement of it? No. Is cheese anti-inflammatory? Is butter good for you? You bet your boots, they are. So that's where you find C 15. I kind of get a chuckle, okay? I do. Because you get stuff online on the internet that, and that's all right. I'm on the internet. I can't dismiss social media. I'm on social media. But you get a lot of things and they go, this is the best thing since sliced bread. Somebody said they were offended when I said sliced bread. It's only an expression, okay? I'm always talking in expressions. It's an old expression.

Anyway, but you know what? There's always something new under the sun, according to the internet or whatever, and they say. This is the greatest discovery, C 15 omegas. It's better than DHA. It's better than EPA. Nah, I like it. As a matter of fact, I love it, but I don't want you to take a supplement of it. I want you to eat it. Eat dairy. You know me. I am the farmer's best friend. Am I not? Do I love butter? You know I do do. I love cheese, eggs, meat and cheese. You know I do. Well, that's C 15, eat it. That's why I tell you guys to eat that because it's got everything. C 15 is good, but when it comes to Omega-3, DHA is the best. Okay? C 15 is very good, but DHA is the best omega-3, and it ain't close. Okay? Your brain ain't made up of C 15. Your brain is made up of DHA. So is your eyeballs. It's fat.

Okay, let me leave it there. We'll come back Monday. I got, let me just see how many I got left. I got a few left. Oh, it's down at the bottom here, Laura. Your blood work is all good. Well then don't worry about the ALT. I wouldn't worry about it, okay? If everything else is good, if A1C is good, your triglycerides are good, your HDL is good. That means your liver is functioning very, very, very well. And it ain't full like the Costco parking lot. Okay? We'll leave it at that. I'll look at the other questions. Okay? Love you dearly guys. Okay. Talk to you soon. Oh, to you mothers out there. Okay. Happy Mother's Day. Happy Mother's Day. What would we do without mothers? Happy Mother's Day. Ladies. You know what I think of you guys. Okay, men less, we're big babies. Men are spoiled compared to women. Okay? I know that. Okay, love you guys. Talk to you soon.
