Dr. Martin answers questions sent in by our listeners in today's episode.

TRANSCRIPT OF TODAY'S EPISODE

Announcer:  You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.

Dr. Martin:  Well good morning everyone. Once again, welcome to another live this morning and on a Good Friday. Hopefully we'll have a few people watching this morning. I realize it's a holiday for a lot of people and they're off. Okay, you know what it is? Q and A Friday, so let's get to them right away. Okay, here's what she's saying. I'm returning. This is Faith. Okay. Hi Faith, how are you? Or Fath, which one is it? The spelling that I have here is FATH. Okay. That could be Fatima I guess, or I don't know. I'm only reading what I have here. "I'm returning to EMC, eggs, meat and cheese after straying for a bit." Okay? "I believe I have a fungal acne, okay? And I'm a 58-year-old woman." Yeah, you could have, if you have that Fath, you have leaky gut a hundred percent, okay?

And add horror-mones to the mix. Usually what happens when you get any kind of acne, you get too much testosterone for a woman, but that only happens when you have estrogen dominance. So you want to lower that estrogen bath and dim it out. Flax seeds or a good way to do it or menopausal formula. I would have you on that because it has dim elevates your progesterone and dims out your estrogen to balance them out. So I would say that without hesitation, you have two problems. One is leaky gut, got to fix it. Don't feed the bears, lay off their sugar. Any kind of fungus or yeast, they live on sugar. So stop that and you want to knit up the leaky gut. Probiotics, bone broth and balance out your hormones. There's two things involved, I believe. Okay, thanks for the question. Much appreciated.

Monica, "I would like to know Dr. Martin's assessment on vitamin D, toxicity level. My blood work came back at 352 and the doctor office informed me that I was approaching the toxicity level." Well, look, I get it. I understand. You have to understand a couple of things, okay? Talk about this all the time, okay? Vitamin D toxicity is so overrated. You have no idea. I've been around for well over 50 years. Can I tell you, I've never ever seen one case of vitamin D toxicity. I can assure you, no one has ever set foot in an emergency department of a hospital and the doctors go, I know why you're sick. I know why you got this because you're toxic with vitamin D. They talk about it, but they've never seen it. Okay? They've never seen it. And listen, studies have been done, man, on this to become toxic. 50,000 I use a day, six months straight, seven days a week, and then you know what? You might get a kidney stone.

It's so overblown, it gives me my neck migraine, and I understand you as a lay person, okay, are going to be rattled when a doctor's office calls you, but I'm sorry. What they should be worried about is all the medications that they give out and the toxicity levels of those medications. Look, I'm going to give you a stat, the number one killer in America. Look, you know me, I talk about chronic diseases, chronic diseases, cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer's, diabetes. I always talk about those four, and they're all related, by the way, by that high insulin. It's just people are diabetics and they don't know it, but they get chronic diseases because their insulin levels are high. That's called metabolic syndrome. Anyway, lay that aside. If you look at heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer's, which is incredible that it's up in the top and diabetes on this side, you have iatrogenic disease.

You know what that means? That is people dying from taking medications and side effects of medications. The statistics on that are incredible. It's right up near the top of all diseases. It's called iatrogenic. Now you guys know me except for the new folks that are on. You know me. Do I tell people not to take medication? Nope. Even statin drugs, I don't tell you to take them. I just tell you the truth about cholesterol, right? I tell you the truth. I'm very opinionated on it, but I don't tell people not to take a statin drug. You want to take a statin drug? Take a statin drug. Do I tell people not to take an antibiotic? No. I can make recommendations. You need an antibiotic. Take it. All I tell people is if you're going to take an antibiotic, you better take a probiotic with it and then afterwards double up, sometimes even triple up to replace that bacteria.

You know me, I tell you both sides, but when I hear about vitamin D toxicity, I get a migraine because they don't see it, but they love to talk about it and they take numbers and vitamin D will kill you. No vitamin D will save your life. Vitamin D is the number one vitamin of all time. It comes from the sun. You get 10,000 units, international units of vitamin D in 20 minutes of the sun, 10,000. Are you going to die from that? Nope. If you could get 10,000 IUs every day, unfortunately we don't see the sun every day, you'd be healthier. So they make up this whole thing about vitamin D toxicity, okay? What happens? Well, they talk about it, but they don't have tens of thousands of cases. They just tell you something that they Googled.

Anyway. Look, if your levels are at, where do you, did you say, Monique, the exact notion of love, he views that toxicity. For the rest I take approximately 6,000 I use. Well, your number isn't up to 352. Good for you. You'll feel better. Good for you. Your immune system is good. Good for you, Monique. Now I would tell you, you don't have to take it. I would lay off for a few months and just get the sun three or four days a week if you can. But if you take 6,000 IUs a day, so what? You'll never, never get sick from taking 6,000. But now that I know your numbers, I would say well look good for you. You're at a very high level, which is not toxic, by the way, but you're optimized and you know what? You don't need to take it right now.

If I had those numbers and I'm close to that, I'd rely on the sun, but I haven't seen the sun. No, I was up yesterday. I saw the sun. Okay, thank you, Monique. Very good question. We appreciate it. Ruth is saying, my daughter-in-law, 31 years old, just diagnosed with lupus. Okay? So lupus is an autoimmune disease, and I've never seen a case Ruth that doesn't have leaky gut, always has leaky gut. Fix the leaky gut. Get your daughter-in-law on probiotics. Don't feed the bears, meaning that she has had an invasion of a third army called yeast or fungus, candida albicans. If you want to be specific, you want to get rid of that. When I had patients that came in with lupus, they went on the reset. They were on probiotics, they were on oil of oregano to kill the yeast and fungus in their brain and in their tissue, and I got good results.

I'm not saying I ever cured anything, but I'll tell you, I would put my results up with lupus against anybody else's, and you've just got to simplify your diet and lay off the sugars and lay off the crappy carbs and those bad oils. Lay off that stuff. If she can get your daughter-in-law, I would have her on probiotics, vitamin D, at least eight to 10,000 IUs a day. She's probably very low in B12. That's what I found over the years, probably very low in magnesium, and you want to fix all of that, okay. I'd have her on Navit all because is such a powerful antioxidant. Thanks, Ruth. We appreciate it. Teresa, what do you think of these protein bars, a loa, plant-based protein? Are the ingredients good for our tummies or our bodies? I've been eating half a day along with your supplements. Of course.

Eggs, meat and cheese. Look, there's a lot better protein bars than plant proteins. Plant proteins. The problem is, Teresa, you're not going to get your complete amino acids. The best protein powder is bone broth. It's not even close, but if I was you, plant proteins I'm not big on, I would go to a whey protein. Look for protein bars with whey, as long as you can digest them. And again, I'm not big on plant protein bars. I really am not. If they're low in sugar, well, if you like 'em, Theresa, I'm not going to make a federal case out of it. It's just that I think there's a lot better things. You haven't heard me talk too much about protein bars. I find if you read the ingredients, a lot of those protein bars are using bad oil, hydrogenated oil that's meant for your car and not for you.

Anyway, Teresa, thanks for the question. Sharon. I've been taking Dr. Martin's thyroid formula for quite some time. Okay, good for you. She's not noticing that much difference. Okay? What does Dr. Martin think about taking biotin well alone, not so much. If you know me at all, Sharon. I'm a formulator, okay? So I had to get results. If you look at that thyroid formula, it's a combination of things, okay? I like a combination of things. They work synergistically. Now, biotin good, but I would tell you for your hair, bone broth would be far better than biotin. Okay? That's me, and I think I'm right about that. You want to try biotin on its own? Hey, I just never saw great results with it. I'm much more into bone broth for that. Okay, Judy did the reset in January, low carb now, not sleeping well, poor energy, anxiety, nausea.

Well, I'm going to tell you something right under the gate, Judy, your cortisol is through the roof. Through the roof. And if cortisol is high for a period of time, the number one thing is poor sleep, anxiety, nausea, a lot of people with, they nauseous all the time. You know what it is? It's this inside. And sometimes you don't even know that's happening with you. It's you are wound up inside like a tight ball. You are wound up and your cortisol is driving high all the time when it shouldn't be that way. Cortisol is on your side because it helps you to wake up in the morning, get you going, and if someone scares you, it's on your side. You can run or fight or flight. But what's happening with you, I can guarantee you, Judy, I can guarantee you that you are never getting out of the fight or flight.

You're never getting into the rest, and you got two moats, rest and digest and fight or flight. You're not getting into the rest and digest that. Cortisol is not allowing you to get into that. Okay? Judy, I can guarantee you that your symptoms are exactly what I saw in my office thousands of times, and people didn't realize that the cortisol was high. And you know why they didn't realize it? Nobody had ever tested them before and that's why you got anxiety. Okay? Now, what came first, the chicken or the egg? Judy, I have no idea what your life is like and family dynamics and stress. It could be environmental, but a lot of times you don't even realize that there's a lot of stress and it's affecting your body and you need to get on the cortisol formula big time. But that's what's going on, Judy.

Okay? Thanks for the question. We appreciate it. Theresa, another Teresa here. Seed oils, okay? They find their way into our body. Yeah, no kidding. How concerned should I be? Now, Theresa, you're asking a very, very good question. I like this question because it gets me to talk about something that's important. Okay? So you are asking, well, I just eat regular meat with its fat. How concerned should I be about cows, pigs and chickens being fed animal fat? Well, that's good for them, but you think, are you talking about cows that get fed with corn? For example, grass fed is better. Corn fed cows. Look, here's the way I operate there. There's good, better, best, okay? That's the way that I operate. Good, better, best. Okay, now, meat is good.

All meat is good. All eggs are good, all cheese is good, all butter is good. If it's grass fed, it's the best, organic grassed, whatever. But what you're eating is very good for you. You're better to eat eggs, meat and cheese, grocery store, what you can afford, okay? If you have a butcher and you have a farm and you're getting your own eggs, or you got someone that's giving you a fatted calf, you got Mennonites living beside you or whatever, good for you. That's the best. I love that, okay? But you have to understand that every time you have a piece of meat, it's better than any carb that you're eating, including fruits and vegetables. Do you understand me? That doesn't mean fruits and vegetables are no good. All I'm saying to you, you're better off eating meat because of the amino acids, the complex, the nutrients, it's a better fuel.

Your brain will thank you, your body will thank you. Okay, so Theresa, don't be concerned, okay? Again, let me give you some overarching principles. Dr. Martin, okay? Somebody's on the Titanic with their health. They're on the Titanic. They have metabolic syndrome. 93% of the population have some form of metabolic syndrome, high triglycerides, low HDL, elevated blood pressure, slightly elevated blood sugar, A1C, elevated uric acid, low levels of vitamin D, that's metabolic syndrome, belly fat, metabolic syndrome, 93% of the population, you're on the titan. You know what I tell people that are on the Titanic? Don't worry about the deck chairs. If you're on the Titanic, don't rearrange the deck chairs. Don't get into the weeds, get off the Titanic or turn the ship around. That's the overarching principle of the Martin Clinic. I sat with tens of thousands of patients over the years and I said, okay, grab their cheeks. I really didn't, but some people let me, okay, listen, Linda, listen, Larry, get the big picture. You're on the Titanic, Dr. Martin, should I be eating organic?

Don't worry about that right now when I tell you to go home and eat eggs, meat, and cheese for the next 30 days, okay? Don't get into the weeds. Just let this happen. And then once you fixed metabolic syndrome, then if you want and you can afford it or whatever, you make it a priority. I don't eat anything unless it's organic and you got people on YouTube and this place and that place, and you can't have any meat unless you go to the butcher at the farm and you watch them and make sure that cow has never been fed any corn or that pig is organically. Guys, I give myself a migraine with that because look, once you're down the road of health, once you got off the broad road, okay, I'm bringing you to Matthew chapter seven. Jesus said there's two roads, okay? There's a broad road and there's a narrow road, and it's the same thing in health.

You'll see the broad road people moderation. Your brain needs some sugar. Dr. Martin is a quack, okay? He's so over the top and they're on the broad road to destruction, heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer's, diabetes. They believe in moderation. They live in the middle aisles of the grocery store. They bought the lie, okay? Fat makes you fat and red meat gives you cancer, and red meat is acidic and yada, yada, yada. They don't even know what they're talking about, but they're on the broad road and they want you to stay on the broad road with them. And sometimes even people on the narrow road, they're so narrow, you can't eat anything. Everything's tainted. Guys, can I give you a memo? We live in a toxic soup, and I don't care if you live on an island by yourself, you happen to own an island and nobody else lives on it except you and maybe your family and you raise your own chickens and you have your own eggs, you have good for you, I'm happy for you, okay?

But if you think there's no plastic there, if you think the water isn't tainted to some extent, if you think that soil isn't tainted, to some extent, guys, we don't live in a perfect world. I'm sorry. We just don't. And I don't care where you go. You can go on top of Mount Everest. You want to live up there. There's plastic up there too. It's everywhere. So you know what I'm saying? You understand the gist of what I'm saying. Look, don't be concerned. Eat the right foods, okay? And don't lose any sleep or your cortisol go up. We don't live in a perfect world. I want you to be educated and then you make choices based on that. Okay? Thank you for the question. And I know I went on a little diatribe there this morning, but that's me. Okay? Louise, I have atrial fib, you and tens of thousands of others.

What can I do to raise my blood pressure if it's too low? Raise your blood pressure because Louise, if you've got atrial fib, they're worried about your blood pressure. If you got atrial fib, they usually put you on a blood thinner. So I don't know if you're on a blood thinner. I don't know if you're on blood pressure medication. One thing I know about AFib is this. Here's what I noticed over the years, they were deficient in, because I always look for deficiency and atrial fib almost invariably, 95% low in coq 10, they weren't eating enough meat. They usually, people get AFib. A lot of times they live on the plant kingdom and not on the animal kingdom. They don't eat enough eggs, meat, cheese, butter, and dairy products. They don't get enough of them. Okay? And number two, so that's coq 10. You eat a steak, you get coq 10, and the other one is magnesium.

They were often, often very low in magnesium. So those are the two things I would tell you to do. Louise, you're talking about raising your blood pressure. What are your numbers? I want to know because put them out there for us on the private Facebook group or send an email to info@martinclinic.com, because what do you mean by low blood pressure? What are your numbers? What are your symptoms? Okay, what are your symptoms? I'd like to know anyway, thanks for the question. We appreciate it. That was Louise Kelly, what do you think of colostrum for a woman? Well, colostrum, a woman has colostrum. As soon as babies breastfeeds, they get colostrum in the first couple of weeks after breastfeeding. Do you need to take a supplement of colostrum? No. Listen, I listened to a commercial. I actually heard it last night and I almost drove off the road. I heard it on the radio. Okay, you know what they said? You need a supplement of colostrum. Okay? And it's 300 million years old. Colostrum is 300 million years old.

How do you know that? Were you there? I just started chuckling. I go, what? You just lost me. I like colostrum. Baby needs colostrum. Mommy gives baby. It's one of the biggest reasons I was screaming 50 years ago when women were buying the lie from the food industry, not to breastfeed their babies. Anybody my age remember that whole craze about, well, you know what? Breast milk doesn't have everything in it. You need a fortified formula. Says who? Right? Baby gets colostrum and you ain't getting colostrum in a formula. Baby gets colostrum from mommy's breast. Do you need to take a colostrum formula? No. Eat eggs, meat and cheese. You'll get everything you need. Okay? Like colostrum, 300 million years old. What? Now, when a calf baby cow, they get colostrum from mommy. Okay? But I don't want you drinking milk because it's got no colostrum in it that's been taken out and everything is filtered out of there.

You know me? I call it white Pepsi. Now, cream, that's another thing, but not for colostrum. Okay? It's funny, again, I've been around the world too many times. Things come around and oh, you need colostrum. It's the best thing since sliced bread is nothing better than colostrum and you better get a supplement of it. What? It's a trend. It's marketing. Okay? Now, the other one, I mean every week I used to get this, Dr. Martin, can you push this on your radio show? What is it? It was the flavor of the wheat type of thing, and it got a lot of ink. And I'll give you an example. Late nineties radio show melatonin. Every second person called me on the radio open line, whether I was in Sudbury, whether I was in Windsor, whether I was in Ottawa. I used to do a show there. And you know what, Dr. Martin, what about melatonin?

Isn't it the greatest thing since sliced bread? I said, well, yes and no. If you get out in the sun, even when it's 50 below and the sun is out, you get melatonin in your eyes and it goes to your third eye. Okay? Your pineal gland, your body makes melatonin. So why do you need a supplement of it? And I know people, oh, well, it helps me sleep. I said, okay, but the sun will help you sleep too, because then you're getting the real melatonin. And again, it wasn't that I was so down on melatonin, I just didn't like the hype that it was the greatest supplement ever. And it's not. And I talked and I said, no, your buddy makes melatonin. Thus the son.

The son got the memo. Let me finish up. There's no reason not to finish up here. Julie, does low progesterone affect dry eyes? Yeah, to some extent. You dry up. Okay. When you have low progesterone, a woman, yeah, it can affect it to some extent. Okay? I'd have be on our menopausal formula, but I'll tell you what's better for dry eyes, high DHA. Nothing better. Nothing better for dry eyes than high DHAI love progesterone, guys. I love elevating a woman's progesterone because it helps to regulate their estrogen. Okay, good question, Julie. Cynthia, what do you think of betanite clay for kidney and liver cleanse? I don't. I've been asked that. That was another thing that came. Okay, charcoal or betanite? Clay. I don't think you were meant to eat that stuff. I'm not drunk. If you want to use it, Cynthia, go for it. Look, you know me.

You want to cleanse your liver, go on the reset. You'll cleanse your liver. That's a hundred percent. Drink water. You want to clean your kidneys. They're the Niagara Falls of your body. Go to Niagara Falls this morning if you're close to it or picture it in your mind if you've ever been there. What do you see? Water 24 and seven. There's nothing that will clean your kidneys like water. You can use any formula you want. Not like water is the best. You need to drink water, flush out for kidneys, even liver. To some extent, water is really good, but liver, you don't want to pack it up with fat. And that's why you lay off the sugar. You want to do a liver cleanse? Don't eat any sugar or any crappy carbs. You know what crappy carbs are? Sugar holding hands. That's all it is.

Crappy carbs are sugar holding hands plus pat oil. Okay, thanks for the question. Okay, let me see if I can get done here. Susan. I'm struggling to get my sodium levels in my blood tests are high. Well, Susan, if you got a high sodium levels, generally you might have trouble with your kidneys, but generally what I saw, high sodium, it's because they were dehydrated. 99% of high sodium levels is because you're not drinking enough water. Now you're telling me that two liters of water a day, which usually would be very good, but it's not your high sodium, Susan, that's you exhausted kidneys might if your kidneys are stressed, get a kidney function test. Find out for sure. But I'm suggestive tension on the side of the jaw around my eyes. Feel tired, Susan, I think you have high cortisol. That's what I think your adrenals add.

Renal on topic, kidneys are affected and that can elevate your sodium levels, but that doesn't mean you're taking too much sodium. It's just that you're retaining it. And usually if you're eating too much sugar, you'll retain team sodium, you'll retain it. It's stressing the kidneys out. So watch your diet. Okay? Thank you. And Himalayan salt is wonderful. Kathy, how long did it take your wife to heal from chronic fatigue? Well, I'll tell you what. Okay. My wife wanted to choke me after she took pine bark extract for a couple of days after being very unwell. Chronic fatigue. The real chronic fatigue is an autoimmune disorder. And you know what? I'm going to do another session on it because a lot of people are asking me about chronic fatigue and about my wife's story.

And my wife had a lot to do with me getting a PhD in clinical nutrition. I had already taken 2000 hours of nutrition, but then I got a PhD in natural medicine and a PhD in clinical nutrition. I just studied and studied and studied because my wife was unwell. And that's a big part of our story at the Martin Clinic of Rosie being unwell. And I wanted to get to the bottom of it, and I've never stopped studying because of it. You have to understand, I've told you my story many a time, the diabetic background of my family, my dad, especially my grandfather. And that started me on my journey of nutrition way back in the sixties when I was a teenager, I knew more about food than most doctors because I watched my dad, I watched my father deal with diabetes, and my dad was an intelligent doctor.

He was smart. I listened to him. He said, son, it's sugar diabetes. Okay. But anyway, good question. And how much did she take of what? Navit all? Well, she still takes four a day. I remember when I started with her, she was taking a hundred and something milligrams. Now she's taking about 1200 milligrams because we super concentrate n atol. Okay, and last question, Susan, does apple cider or vinegar stay in the stomach to help with? Well, it helps your acidity. I like apple cider vinegar to some extent. It's not going to fix your problem. You have to change your diet. You really have to change your diet, but it can be an aid and it doesn't stay in your stomach. Okay? It doesn't just sit there forever. No, it's broken down. And a little bit of apple CI or vinegar or balsamic vinegar, I like it. I got no problem with it, but you don't want to be living on that stuff. But it doesn't stay in your stomach. It lands in your stomach, but it don't stay there. Okay? You guys are unbelievable. Such good questions. Okay guys. Love you dearly. We'll be on Easter Monday. Okay? We're wrong. I'm doing a session Monday. Okay? So if you're asking, we'll post it. We're on Monday. You have any questions, send them in info@martinclinic.com. We thank you for it. We love you dearly. Have a great Easter. Okay, love you guys. Talk to you soon.
