Announcer: You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.
Dr. Martin: Well, good afternoon everyone. Once again, welcome to another live this afternoon. I got to get used to that. Okay, I'm just going to give you a hodgepodge guys this afternoon of some studies that I flagged. I'm always looking at studies. Fascinating. Get all these studies. I really appreciate it. Here's one. It was just on one case of autism, but it really, I liked it and it was almost like a complete reversal of autism using an antifungal drug. And the idea was that autism was caused by mold. Interesting, isn't it? Now guys, if you've been with me a bit, I've talked about autism, like it's crazy. You go back into the days that I was in school in the seventies, man, I never even heard of autism. The very first time, I'm going to say it was 1979, maybe 1980, but 19 79, 80 and a colleague of mine told me he had two sons that were autistic and he had to explain it to me. I didn't even know what he was talking about. I didn't know anything about autism. I hadn't heard of it before.
And here we are today. What are they saying now? One out of, I don't know, 30 kids are born with autism, and why is that? Guys, my theory has always been leaky gut, leaky brain, and what garbage gets into the bloodstream of mummy during pregnancy. Baby, in the first several months, and I know there's a lot of talk about vaccines, but I've been consistent, guys, okay? I'm not saying vaccines are maybe involved or not. I'm not. Here's what I am saying at the underlying problem is, I've always said this, that it's leaky gut, leaky gut, leaky brain. And what did I say? Yeast fungus would get into these baby's brains and antibiotics. The greatest discovery of the 20th century had become the curse of the 21st. And one of its curses, in my opinion, is autism. The disruption of the microbiome. And where fungal, the Trojan horse gets into a baby's bloodstream invades the brain. Maybe one thing fungus does is take heavy metals with it. Mercury, lead, cadmium.
So I've always said this, that it was more of antibiotic. Mommy on antibiotics, or baby on antibiotics or both, and it becomes a perfect storm and there's a disruption. There's a dysbiosis, which is a change, a huge change in the microbiome in the gut, and yeast comes across, gets in. And so what they're saying is, and it was a very small study, needs to be explored more. They used an antifungal drug to treat a child in an autistic spectrum, and the results were astounding. Now, this is a very small sample. They used an antifungal drug and this is what happened. But by just reporting this particular study, and I think it's worth noting, and I think it just reinforces my theory on why we see so much autism today. Why compared to 50 years ago, what's happened? And we have the toxic brain. Why? Starts in the gut. Five days of an antibiotic will wipe out all your good bacteria, guys.
And again, I never tell people not to take an antibiotic. I never do that. I didn't even do it when I was in practice. I didn't tell people not to take an antibiotic. If you needed one. I'm against the overuse of antibiotics. And by the way, there isn't a college of physicians and surgeons that don't agree with that anywhere. They're telling physicians when you quit giving out antibiotics like candy. And the reason they tell their doctors not to do it is because they realize that we've got all these super bugs now, and they don't even discuss the side effect of fungus, which occurs after taking an antibiotic, a yeast, and a lot of people will, doc, I never got a yeast infection after a lot of women have after taking an antibiotic for a bladder infection, for example, get a yeast infection. But you can just about be assured that you have a fungal overgrowth.
And this is another reason why we see so much of a condition called SIBO. And at the Martin Clinic, we call it SIFO, small intestine fungal overgrowth. A lot of people develop digestive issues. You can have leaky gut, by the way, and have no digestive issues. Your gut is leaking, but it's not giving you symptoms in the gut. It gives you symptoms elsewhere, including the brain, sinuses, skin, lungs, joints, fungus will go everywhere. Yeast will travel and it will take heavy metals with them. It's very toxic to the human body. A little bit of yeast in your gut, as long as it's contained there will not hurt you. But if it spreads and gets into the small intestine, now you've got SIFO, small intestine fungal overgrowth. If you Google it, you'll get SIBO, small intestine bacterial overgrowth, which I disagree with. It's not bacteria, it's a fungus underneath it. And you got to kill that yeast. And one way to kill it is lay off the sugars, okay? So the news headline is, Antifungal Drug Used to Treat Autism in a Small Study, very, very promising results. There's the headline, I just bring you the news. Of course, I give you my opinion on it. I'm very opinionated, right?
Another study, I get asked this all the time, by the way, about, here we go with coffee, the real vitamin C. Don't be confused when I say that, guys. Okay? Don't be confused by that. I'm confused Dr. Martin. Are you saying that coffee has vitamin C? I didn't say that. It's better than vitamin C. That's what I'm saying. And by the way, I've been saying it for 50 years, coffee is better for you than you taking a supplement of vitamin C. I'm not big on vitamin C on its own. I never have been and I never will be, okay, on its own. We did a whole thing this week on cancer, and I like high dose of vitamin C, iv. You can't do it orally, guys. You'll never get that much vitamin C in your body unless you do it intravenously. I like it. I never liked it necessarily alone in IV therapy and cancer. I liked it with glutathione, but you know what? I like vitamin C, ascorbic acid.
But if you're just going to take a supplement of vitamin C on its own, nah, I'm not big on it. I'd much rather, and I mean this, I gave a classification to coffee as vitamin C and I meant it. That's how good it is for you. Vitamin C can't touch that. And I'm not saying you don't need vitamin C, okay? I'm not saying that you need it, but people aren't dying of scurvy anymore, right? And by the way, okay, because Canada's been in the news a lot, but one of our stories in Canada is of Jacques Cartier, a French explorer and 25 of his men coming across the Atlantic had died of scurvy, a lack of vitamin C. But he wasn't given vitamin C as a supplement. He was given a tea. Now I would've much rather have coffee, but he was given a tea made with pine bark extract. And really guys, that's the start of the story of pine bark, which we call Navitol today. That's the start of the story. We have a long history in Canada of using pine bark extract. The research on pine bark extract is incredible.
Now obviously pine bark extract had a little bit of vitamin C in it, right? The tea that they made from the bark obviously had some vitamin C in it, but pine bark is so much stronger than vitamin C, and so is coffee, okay? So don't go to the store and buy vitamin C as a supplement. Don't do it. You don't have to do it. Eat an orange if you want. Don't drink it, eat it. Don't drink orange juice, whatever you do. Coffee is as hydrating as water. That was the study. I didn't tell you that part, did I? Okay, because I get asked that all the time. Coffee dehydrates. I answered a question online the other day because somebody was saying that there's a book out there that it's on the thyroid. And it said, oh, by the way, if you're drinking coffee, just know that you are demineralized. You don't have enough minerals, you're losing all your minerals. Well, you know what? That's been debunked, guys. That's not true. Now I'm not saying have 20 cups of coffee a day. The sweet spot for coffee is four cups of coffee a day. Have four. You got to have a decaf you get my age? You got to have a decaf in the afternoon or night. I ain't sleeping if I have a coffee, a regular coffee. Have you tried our Good for Me Coffee yet? It's the best coffee around. There's even dark roast, which I like.
Okay, sunlight and pneumonia. Number three on the hit parade in terms of studies. Headline, When pneumonia patients were put in the sun, they recovered so much quicker. Sun, steak and steel. When you get in the sun, you activate those T cells. Now, a colleague of mine, Dr. Zoltan Rona, some of you might know that name, did a study years ago, published it in a very small study. I think it was 15 patients on respirators, 30 patients, I think total 15 were given high doses of vitamin D, and the other 15 weren't. And they were all on respirators. They were all in the hospital and they had severe pneumonia. And Dr. Rona, what he did is gave 15 of those patients 50,000 IUs a day for seven days, published the study, and it was remarkable. The 15 that were given the 50,000 IUs of vitamin D every day for seven days were completely recovered within seven days, not so much for the other 15. Now again, it was a small study, but it was published and Dr. Rona, who I've known for 40 years, he knows the importance of vitamin D, and so do I.
Okay, number four, Exercise slows and even reverses brain aging, especially at the hypo, or hippo, or hypo campus, which is when you hear the word campus, think of school. When you think of school, you think of learning. Your learning center in your brain, the memory center in your brain, okay? I always divide the brain in two pretty well, the hypothalamus, think horror-mones and the hippocampus, think memory. When that area shrinks, you're in trouble and that's what happens when it ages. And this study is saying exercise slows and even reverses aging in the brain. Holy moly. Vitamin E, here we go again, guys, here we go again. Another vitamin classified by the Martin Clinic, right? Vitamin E exercise. Yeah, that's how good it is for you. Just move. Now the best exercise, because people ask me all the time, the best thing you can do is develop muscle. It's all right. You can move. Go for a walk. I love walking. I really do. But I'll tell you, there's nothing that's going to beat muscle building. And I don't care if you're 80 years old, you can get stronger. You can even get stronger gripping, okay? But they're showing, the study is showing that exercise reverses, slows down the aging of the brain, especially in the area of the hypo hippocampus. I say hypo, you say hippo, okay?
Juice cleansing. Oh, this is interesting. In just three days, shifted gut bacteria and caused inflammation of the gut. Okay? Now, put your hand up if you've heard me say, put your hand up, if you've heard me say before in this program, don't do juicing. I don't like juicing. I don't like juicing cleansing. Now I differentiate that from those who are doing Dr. Martin's Perfect Smoothie. Who was out for a walk this afternoon and was having a smoothie at the same time? Dr. Martin's perfect smoothie. It's not juicing. Don't take out carrots and juice. Don't take celery and juice. Don't do it because it says it shifts the microbiome. It develops a dysbiosis, it means that it's feeding obviously the bad guys, and you're getting a dysbiosis and an inflammation inside the gut. What did I always tell you guys? Juicing, overrated.
What else is overrated? Fiber is overrated. You heard it here. Fiber's overrated. You don't need fiber. Your body doesn't even like fiber. How do I know that? Because it ends up in your toilet. You think your body likes fiber? Your body knows more than the world out there. Your body said, what are you giving me that for? I'm just going to poo it out. Dr. Martin, what I do without my oatmeal, I got to have my salad because I ain't going to go to the bathroom, says about 10 million people a year, but they've been duped. They don't need it. Don't juice. Don't drink juice. God wanted you to eat fruit. You can eat fruit, okay? Not on the reset. Take 30 days off. Okay? But you heard me even in cancer, what did I tell you? Take out some berries, frozen berries or whatever, blueberries. If you can get blueberries from Northern Ontario. Like my sister used to say, there's so many bears in Northern Ontario, they're buying condos. That's how many bears we got. And they love the berries. And a bear will eat up to 30,000 berries, blueberries a day. You know why they're doing that? They're fattening up for the winter. Fructose, fructose fattens.
Now guys, you can eat some fructose, but don't drink it and don't eat 30,000 berries either. You're not a bear, you're not hibernating, okay? So it's really important, but I don't mind you eating some fruit off the reset. You can have some fruit. You want to eat an orange? Eat an orange, but don't drink it. You want to eat an apple? An apple a day, keeps it. No, A steak a day keeps the doctor away. Not an apple. But if you want to have an apple, I ain't going to fight with you. Have an apple, eat it, don't drink it. All these kids that are weaned, and there was a study out, lemme just see if it comes up quickly, I'll mention it because I can't even remember if I did. And it was about juices and oh, drinks. So it was all these sodas and juices. Okay? Lemme just see if I can get it for you. Sweetened beverages linked to millions of global diabetes and heart disease cases. Sugary drinks.
Guys, here's what your body doesn't know. You're having a soda, a Pepsi, a Coke, or orange juice. Dr. Martin, it's Tropicana. I used to hear that all the time. It's Tropicana, Dr. Martin. Well, I don't care. It's no good for you. Well, why don't you just have a Pepsi for breakfast? What's the difference? Well, it's got fiber, it's got pulp. I got migraines, sweetened beverages linked to millions of global diabetes and heart disease. The connection right between sugar and the heart. Somebody was asking me this afternoon about heart disease. I'm going to tell you something. I agree with Dr. Kraft, not Dr. Kraft dinner. Dr. Joseph Kraft, who was the leading expert on diabetes and died a few years ago. Smart, smart, smart, smart, smart. Did tens of thousands of autopsies on diabetic patients. And here was his quote, you got heart disease, you're a diabetic. Nobody ever diagnosed me as a diabetic and I got atherosclerosis. You know what Dr. Kraft said? No, you were a diabetic, just undiagnosed. It's a hundred percent atherosclerosis. Hardening of the arteries comes from sugar, not fat, not cholesterol. Atherosclerosis, calcified hardening of those arteries, sugar. There's nothing like it. And Dr. Kraft said it years ago, and I paid attention.
Okay, well, let's leave it at that. Let's leave it at that. I think we got a few more, but we'll leave it at that. We got a few more that we'll touch on. Some interesting studies, guys. Always love to bring them to you. Okay? Now, tomorrow's question and answer Friday. If you haven't got your questions in yet, you can do that. Send the question in to info@martinclinic.com. Send it by email, guaranteed we'll see it because if you just put it in the scroll here, hey, I got a hard time reading, especially once I start the program, so if you want it on the show info@martinclinic.com. Guys, you guys are the greatest audience around. And I say that because I mean it, and it's true. If I was to do a test, I get you to close your textbooks and say, okay, I'm going to test you on health. My audience would do better than anybody else. True. You guys. Okay. We love you dearly, talk to you soon.
