Announcer: You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.
Dr. Martin: Well, good morning everyone. Hope you're having a great start to your day, and we love you guys coming on live with us if you can. And we thank you for listening to The Doctor is in Podcasts and we're happy, happy, happy. Let's get going guys. We got a lot of questions left to do. So we're doing question and answer Monday. Grace is asking a good question. Why is certain nationalities can eat so much rice and get away with it and get away with it? Well, you have to understand, first of all, there's a couple of things, grace, because that's a very good question. Okay, so China, I think I brought to you this probably, I don't know, a week or two ago I mentioned that you know where the most meat consumption in the world is? Hong Kong and they eat a lot of rice. I've been to China.
They eat a lot of rice, but they eat a lot of meat. And so far they've avoided the western diet. So on the positive side, yes, they eat a lot of rice, but they eat a lot of meat. They eat a lot of fish and they don't eat a lot of junk comparatively. As soon as you introduce the Western diet to anybody, any tribe, any group of people, guess what? They get the same diseases we do. Like food is really important. If you take rice on its own, yeah, I mean it's a carb, got some protein in it, but it's when you become a carb boho and people think, well, like the Japanese for example, they eat a lot of rice. How come they're not like us again? Like I say, they eat a lot of protein compared to what the North American does. The Western diet guys has become deadly because it's carb loaded.
It's very low in protein, very low in saturated fat from animal fat and it's full of bad carb sugars. You add sugar to bad fat and you got a big problem. The bad fats are the oils they cook the food in, and we talk about those PUFAs all the time. Those polyunsaturated fatty acids. You combine carbs, bad carbs with bad fat, you're in big dooo. That's what other populations that eat a fair amount of rice, they don't do that. And when they do, they're in trouble. Just like us. I used to run around in my practice days, I did a lot of seminars. Now we do webinars, but I used to do seminars and I enjoyed that. And one of the main groups I used to speak to were the First Nations and I would tell them, go back to your roots in eating. You're eating the Western diet now, which is carb loaded and bad fat loaded.
The white man is trying to kill you with food. No, because there's so much diabetes amongst the First Nations. I said, yet genetically you're probably a little bit predisposed, but at the end of the day, it's not your genetics, it's what you're eating. There'd be no diabetes. If you were living off the land and eating animal protein and fat, you'd have no diabetes whatsoever in your population. So that's the answer. The answer is bad carbs and bad fat. The combination of the two of them, and that is the Western diet, big time. And populations that avoid that, they'll do well. They'll do well. So Gracie or Grace, yeah, that's why certain nationalities eat rice and it don't bother them. Okay? I'll give you an example. India, they're predisposed to diabetes in a sense that genetically Egyptians, there's a lot of diabetes, but it's their diet, their carb loaded, they eat too many carbs.
Diabetes is a food problem. It's when that sugar carbohydrates break into sugar rapidly and you're using a lot of insulin over a period of time, the body becomes resistant to insulin and the more resistance there is at the cellular level, the more the pancreas has got to pump it out because it cannot allow sugar to stay in the bloodstream. We teach this all the time, the time, all the time. The world was lied to. It happened I think back in 1965 when the food industry paid scientists. I think they were all at Harvard and they paid them $65,000 each, which would be a million dollars today or close to it. And you know what? They paid them to pump out that sugar wasn't toxic, fat was toxic, and guys, the whole world went for it. The whole world got duped and especially the western world, especially North America.
So the lie today we're in 2024, and guess what? The lie still out there, that sugar isn't toxic. It's extremely toxic. Toxic. Your body is dedicated to making sure you never have much more than a teaspoon of sugar in your blood at any time. Your body's dedicated to it and diabetes is when it can't do that job anymore of taking sugar out of the bloodstream. Diabetes is the last thing that happens, not the first good question and we appreciate it. Grace code. Do statin drugs reduce triglycerides? Nope. Statin drugs reduce LDL cholesterol. Again, even out of what I talked about earlier where they paid scientists to not talk about sugar but fat because the sugar industry, they didn't want people stopping sugar. Part of this and that it already started even before that, was this whole fat craze that fat made you fat and fat of cholesterol was giving you heart disease.
So today one of the most popular drugs in the history of mankind has been statin drugs. They don't reduce triglycerides, they reduce LDL cholesterol. And guess what? It doesn't work. It hasn't even made a dent in heart disease. I read a study yesterday that showed, and I've read this before, but it came out again yesterday and I was looking at it that if you take statin drugs, it will not increase your lifespan one iota. It's looking for love in all the wrong places. Somebody else asked question, so let me get to it. Might as well do it now. Janet, what do you recommend for someone to help lower their blood pressure rather than go on a statin drug? Well, a statin drug has nothing to do with your blood pressure. First of all, Janet, they give you statin drugs to lower your cholesterol. Statin drugs lower your cholesterol. I'm sorry.
They don't work well, they work, they'll lower your cholesterol, but it doesn't help because cholesterol is not the boogeyman. Now, as far as blood pressure, they're not made for the statin. Drugs don't lower your blood pressure, they lower your cholesterol, your LDL cholesterol, and here's another one. Okay, Janet Ornella asked this question, is the APO B test accurate to tell as my husband has a built up a plaque already? His triglycerides are excellent and his HDL are excellent too? Well, the apple B test, let me tell you what I think of that. I think that is a smoke screen. You know what? There's a lot of people questioning statin drugs today compared to let's say 20 years ago, like statin drugs just became part of medical protocol. I mean, you got a history of heart disease. Here's a statin drug. You got any kind of cholesterol, here's a statin drug.
Statin drugs. Statin drugs, Lipitor, Crestor, Zocor. They were the marketing geniuses. I'm telling you, they could win awards for marketing. Unbelievable. And then because of social media guys, it's really more social media, which we're part of. I used to be in mainstream media because I had a radio show, but there was very few people ever questioning the cholesterol theory. There was very few. It was part of the narrative of medicine and the results were and are. They're terrible. Let me give you an example. If something works, I'm going to give them a high five, okay? In the medical and drug industry, for example, antibiotics, it's the greatest discovery in medicine. Even insulin, a wonderful discovery in medicine. Hallelujah. I'm happy if you need an antibiotic, by all means. So I'm not against medication. I'm not one of these purists, okay? Let's say, well, you know what? Throw out medicine. It's like throwing out the baby with the bath water. Look, if you get in a car accident, don't call me. Well, I can pray for you.
You need surgery perhaps, and you need antibiotics. That's medicine. That's the way it should be. I'm all for that. If I thought for one minute, guys that statin drugs worked, if I thought for one minute that there was a place for them, I'd be telling you to take them if needed. But what bothers me about statin drugs is the whole premise is wrong. Now, I know there's a lot of doctors that disagree with that and this apo, these small particles of cholesterol, oh yeah, but they're important to test and all that. To me, that's a smokescreen. It's a red herring, it's a diversion. It's getting people confused more and more and more about statin drugs. Now listen, I'm not your physician. I'm not. So I'm giving information. You got to do what you got to do with that information, okay? I get it. You're under a lot of pressure. People lay people, they go to their doctor and they're told to go on a statin drug. That becomes a very, very difficult situation for most people. They don't want to go against their physicians. They're a lay person. Becomes difficult. I'm giving information. You can't make me care about cholesterol other than you should have high cholesterol. I want you to have high cholesterol, just the opposite of what they say. Okay, anyw, who? I get it. I get it. Okay, so that was Janet June this. I love June.
You have always told us how good coffee is for us, but my kids are worried I never had a cup of coffee in my life. You know what, June, I feel sorry for you. Oh, but you're saying now at 76 years old, I'm starting to drink it. I love it. Okay. She has one cup of organic brew in the morning, okay? My daughter has recently sent me a video of Jason Christophe. I don't know who that is. I don't saying there exists a study that says coffee stops the flow of oxygen to the heart. Now, June, I don't know how long you've been following me, but when I see something stupid, I get a migraine. Okay? It gives me a headache when I see something silly. Now, I don't know who Jason Christophe is, okay? I don't. But if you can find a study that says coffee blocks the flow of oxygen to your heart, we'd all be dead.
The millions of coffee drinkers, I would've been dead a long time ago. Okay, coffee, I got 150 studies. If you get my book, sun, steak and Steel, I got a chapter in there on coffee and I talk about all those studies that show the benefits of coffee. That is why at the Martin Clinic, we call it the real vitamin C. It is a thousand times stronger than the other vitamin C, which is ascorbic acid. The more they study coffee, the more it is a superstar of nutrients. Coffee isn't that wonderful? I look at that as a gift. I look at that as a gift. You get to drink coffee. Hallelujah. You know what I mean? And then you get a study, it blocks oxygen to the heart. Holy moly, that's deadly. Like June, I just got a headache. I'm a little comical about it, but it's because that study is comical.
I find it funny, but it still gave me a headache. Thanks for the question, June. We appreciate it, Heather, per rura, what is that? Well, it's when people get these real big skin blotches of purple and they're blotches of, I saw a person this weekend. I was at a wedding and I saw it this weekend. Now, that can be an autoimmune thing, oftentimes caused by medications, anti clotting medications, people that have had a heart attack or whatever, they put them on blood thinners and the other ones could be, like I said, could be amyloidosis. If you are not taking any blood thinners and you get that, you got to get it checked out. A lot of times it's medication. Okay, thank you Heather. Laurie, my neighbor is 80. He has three ulcers on his right ankle. Well, is he diabetic? I would ask the question.
Okay, he might be, and he doesn't even know it. That's possible. Or the other thing is poor circulation and that's how you get ulcers on the legs, okay? That's why diabetics have so many trouble with ulcers on their legs because of circulation. Sugar guys destroys blood vessels. Proof in the pudding is diabetics and their circulation, especially to the legs, and they often get neuropathy with it. But if he has ulcers, he's got poor circulation. Well, you really want to on the ulcers to help them to heal. I love navit taking navit all because it elevates nitric oxide. It really helps with circulation. The other thing I put oil of oregano right on those ulcers to help them heal and not get infected. Those are really, really important things Lori to do. Okay, Edith, I found tortillas. Okay, 22 grams of carbs. Now, Edith, right out of the gate, I would tell you that ain't good for you.
That's way too many carbs. But did you mean 22 grams of protein? I don't know, 20 grams of fiber? Who cares? And one gram of sugar, okay? Not a lot of sugar, but certainly way too many carbohydrates unless you meant protein. So re-look at that package and let me know, okay? Otherwise, if it's got 22 grams of carbs, throw it in the garbage where it belongs. Okay, Rita, asking about blood vessels on the face. Well, look, if it's not rosacea, Rita, a lot of times when if you didn't have that before, it's not so much the blood vessels coming out as much as your skin is thinning. And it happens with a lot of people with aging. The skin has lost its elasticity to some extent and it really thins out. His skin is really important. Collagen, and I would say to you, Rita, if that's the case with you, then I am big on collagen protein bone broth.
Make your own or we'll make it for you. It's the best protein in the world is collagen, protein and collagen. So good for your skin, your hair, your nails, collagen is very, very important. And that's what I would say to you Rita. Judy, another blood vessel problem, a blood vessel in my eye busted and she has a condition called, I don't know how you pronounce this, Terry. Jim. It's P-T-E-R-Y-G-I-U-M. I know what it is. It's a problem on the cornea. I think if you Google that, Judy, it would tell you you need surgery. And they're much better at it today than they used to be because you can use a laser usually. Okay? Now I don't know exactly the condition of your eye. The blood vessels. Look, eye health is blood vessel health. Again, I went to the feet and I talked about those ulcers.
Right now I'm going to talk about the eye. If you look at the anatomy of an eye and you look in behind the eye, everything you see is blood supply. And again, I rest my case when I tell you that diabetics have a lot of trouble with their eyes. Why? Blood supply sugar in the blood. It destroys eyes. That's why diabetics have so much trouble with diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma and all of those things in the eye at the first thing I look at is circulation. Two things. I have never in my life seen anything better than doing those two things. Well obviously the diet, getting rid of the sugar as much as possible, and I mean that. And then supplements two things. I like the best, the best, the best for eyes natal, which is pine bark extract in combination with high DHA. Your eye, your lens.
It's made up of fat. DHA so is your brain. You can't get a better oil. You can't get a better oil. And then I like the antioxidant effect. Antioxidants protect the blood vessels. And it's a double whammo because when you take navit all you open up those flood vessels because it elevates the nitric oxide. There's nothing better in my opinion. Okay? I've shown to a lot of optometrists and a few ophthalmologists over the years. If they were listening, nothing better. Bill Berry, all this and that. Good. But the best is that combination of those two things. Thank you very much. And that was Judy Ella, how are you? I would like to ask Dr. Martin, is it possible to have cramps and bloating when giving up carbs and why? Well, you were a carbo holic, Ella. You were a carbo. My name is Ella and I was a carbo holic.
Or I am, I guess once a carbo holic. Always a carbo holic. But you can fix it and cramp sometimes. Look, there's a big adjustment that takes place when you change fuel. When you go from burning carbs, okay? You burn carbs and now you change fuels. You're burning protein and fat, eggs, meat and cheese. Your body has a big adjustment to make and it's all good guys, okay? It's not negative, it's good. Cramping is an adjustment at the kidney level. And that's why I often tell people, when you're on a low carb diet, your body will get used to it. Your kidneys are going to thank you. Your kidneys are going to give you a high five. Believe you me, it's not protein that destroys the kidneys, it's sugar. And I know I will have to answer that again this week. Sometime somebody will ask me, listen, we got 87,000 in change.
People that follow us on Facebook, we have 22,000 members of the private Facebook group. I'm going to get asked this week about cholesterol. A hundred percent. I'm going to get asked this week about protein in the diet doc. Does that destroy my kidneys? Because you've been told that it's the opposite. Protein and fat will save your kidneys. So when you go on eggs, meat, and cheese, your kidneys are making an adjustment. You may need to take some salt, you may need to take some electrolytes. You may need at first to drink some pickle juice. Okay? In order, yeah, you can get some cramping. Now, bloating, it's less. I don't hear much about bloating, but I do. Every once in a while people say, well, I did the reset and I'm getting some bloating. And your body's making an adjustment. It's changing. Fuels the fuel. There's an adjustment to be made. For some, it's smooth sailing for others, a little bit more difficult sometimes to make an adjustment. But I just want to reassure you of something. Rap. You're doing the right thing. I can't assure you more. You are doing the right thing. It's the right thing to do. Now, for some people, it's not an easy adjustment, but it's the right thing to do. Your body will thank you. Every organ in your body will thank you. You're taking the pressure off your kidneys, your liver, your heart, your brain, your gut.
Appreciate it. Okay? And Janet, what do you do for someone to help lower their blood pressure rather than go on a statin drug? Well, I answered that in a sense that statin drug, don't even touch it. But what do you do? Open up your blood vessels. Navit, cut out the sugar because that makes a big difference at the kidney level for blood pressure. Okay, big time, Janet. Okay, Bruce researchers at the University of Michigan reported that turmeric and green tea both cause toxicity in the liver. Well, Bruce, am I saying I'm getting another migraine? Yeah, it's coming on. Talk about a red herring. Okay, look, I've been dealing with supplements for 50 years, okay? Plus, I'm not saying that it can never happen, okay? All I'm saying is it's a red herring. Why? Because the waiting rooms in the hospitals, the waiting rooms at the walk-in clinics, they're not filled with people.
Oh, I know why. You got liver toxicity. You are taking turmeric. Now listen, turmeric is not near as bioavailable as the extract of turmeric, which is kirkman, okay? And guys, it's like, let me use an example. Vitamin D, they said, and you're still here. There's a war on vitamin D. Vitamin D, you're taking too much. You're going to die. And I can tell you from the most recent statistics, we're going to go to the year of 2022. That 2023 is not out yet. Okay? 2022 in North America, 2022. Not one person died of an overdose. Not one person died of an overdose of vitamin D. And I can tell you something else, not one person died of an overdose of turmeric or green tea. I don't know why you want to drink green tea when you can drink coffee. But all I'm saying is more people died from drinking too much water.
And surely there isn't a doctor in the world that would say, well, because you could drink too much water. Maybe you shouldn't drink any water. But that's what they do with this research. There's a war on supplements. The FDA and Health Canada, if they had their way, there'd be no supplements. I mean it. It's their goal. If they could only get past the millions and millions and millions of people, 80% of the population take a supplement. If they could get rid of them, they would. So then you get some research. Yeah. I'm not saying that you, it's not possible to get some toxicity in the liver, but how much of that stuff would you have to take? Why is it that I never saw it in all my years? Oh, I know why you're here. Oh, you're taking, you're just killing yourself. Listen, you know what kills your liver?
Alcohol and carbs. That's what kills your liver. Alcohol and sugar. Fructose, especially high fructose corn syrup. That's what kills your liver big time. That's a fact. So I get migraines, guys. No, but I'm glad you asked me the questions. I mean it. You're going to get the other side here guys. Look again, if I thought it was dangerous for you to drink green tea, even though I feel sorry for you because it's not coffee, I would tell you my word. Let me just say I got a couple more. We'll hit 'em tomorrow, but I got some studies we'll bring tomorrow. I think, Maggie, I'll answer your question about phlegm tomorrow. I'll just make a note here. Okay? And Anne, about her energy levels. Let me go over that. Okay, good guys. Okay, we love you guys. I know I went on some rants today. I don't know if it was Rant Monday or question and answer Monday. Okay guys, we love you dearly.
