Announcer: You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.
Dr. Martin: Well, good morning everyone, and once again, welcome to another live this morning. Hope you're having a great start to your day and little change in plans this morning and happy to be on with you right now. Okay, so I want to talk a little bit about myths. Not myths. You might need your myths this morning because it's cold, but myths. Okay, and what am I talking about these myths about every day I've got to undo our, it's sort of talk about myths all the time. One of the worst is on red meat. And I just want to read to you a couple of papers that came out recently and sort of dispelling the myths on red meat. Now you guys know me, sun, steak and steel. Okay, you guys know that. Consistent, consistent, consistent. What have I've always said about steak? Bring me any food on the planet aside from liver.
Bring me any food on the planet and we'll do a nutritional evaluation. And there's nothing that even comes. Close eggs are good, but they don't beat a steak. They just don't. They don't have the nutritional profile. And just reading two papers on the weekend, recent papers sort of defending red meat, which I liked. But here's the headline on one of them. The amino acids found in meat are the exact ratios that we need as humans. The amino acids found in meat are the exact ratios that we need as humans. So that was one paper and it just went into the fact that amino acids, the building blocks of protein and they're really, really important. And there's some essential ones and ones that are more bioavailable that are found in meat than anything else in food. So how can meat be bad for you?
And what they do is they vilify, especially red meat, and you guys are well aware of that. So I don't have to spend a lot of time on that, but we'll talk about myths this morning. The other thing is, the other article I read is on protein is essential. Okay, what do I always say? Protein is the king of the castle and carbs are the dirty rascal. But when I say protein, okay, you got three macros, you got protein, you have fat, and you have carbohydrates. Now, in nature, the way it was intended, the way your body is designed is that you are to eat your protein with fats.
So again, a piece of meat, protein very high with fat, okay? That's why I don't like fat less our skinny burgers, guys, it's not the burger, it's the bun. That's no good for you. The burger's good for you, okay? And unfortunately, you go to the grocery store today, you got to really try and find, especially ground beef that's got any fat in it. They take the fat out of it. It's so silly, they don't understand. In my book, sun Steak and Steel, I talked about two serial killers, okay? And one you could pronounce, you could use his name Dr. Kellogg's with a C, a serial killer serials kill you. But I'm talking about serial killers with an S. And Dr. Kellogg's was a terrible guy. I'm not going after his motives because he probably thought he was right. And Dr. Ansel Keys, these guys were leading serial killers. What ans they didn't realize it, but they killed hundreds and thousands if not millions of people with their false premises.
False. They weren't right, but the world went for it. They went for cereal. They should have never went for cereal and they went for cholesterol hoax. It was a hoax because biochemistry, your body needs cholesterol. You know that? I know that. But it's almost like, did you not take biochemistry 1 0 1? Did you not take any biology, cholesterol? How can that be bad for you? You need it. Every cell in your body needs it. Okay? So anyway, back to this paper. The first one, amino acids found in meat are exactly proportional to what you need, what the human body needs. You were meant to eat meat.
Okay? Now here's the other one. Protein is essential. Yep, it's the king of the gospel, but here's what the study says or the paper. It's actually a paper. Protein is essential, but not without fat as in nature, right? Look at a piece of meat, okay? I always used the example and I used it in sun, steak and steel, and I've used it in other books because it's such a good illustration. The Inuit, what we used to call the Eskimo, you know what they gave muscle to? They didn't eat the muscle, they gave it to their dogs. They ate blubber, they ate protein and fat together and there were the healthiest populations in the world. You never heard of an Eskimo running after a seal and having a heart attack. They didn't know what that is. It's been well observed by the way and reproduced in science, that diet and every marker gets better.
Insulin inflammation, the more blubber fat and protein that you eat, see fat and protein together is the way nature puts things together. Okay? God puts that together. When you have a piece of cheese, no carbs, fat and protein when you have an egg, no carbs, fat and protein when you have meat, no carbs, fat and protein. Now guys, a lot of people have asked this, so I got to just comment on it because I saw it probably five times over the weekend in our private Facebook group, and I like that. Put your questions in there. One of the questions is, how can I find bacon without any sugar at? Well, I know there are some, but I always tell people, look, if you are starting the reset, the reason you're starting the reset is because you're in the 93% of the population that has metabolic syndrome.
You have inflammation, you have high triglycerides and low HDL. That's not good. And you have people that are high of high blood pressure. That's not good. And by the way, what is the number one cause of high blood pressure? Sn cholesterol. What is the number one? Cause it's not salt either. They blame salt for what sugar is doing. The number one reason for high blood pressure is found at the kidney level is not too much protein because that's a myth. One of the worst myths is protein is damaging to kidneys. No, it's not. I have to undo all the false teaching. You read your New Testament, you get into the epistles and especially, and the Apostle Paul and even Peter, when you read their epistles, they're always talking about false teachers would come in to the early church and they were very concerned about it, but there's a lot of false teachers, guys, when it comes to nutrition.
Let me tell you, I studied under that cholesterol, bad, fat, bad, saturated fat, terrible. I studied under that. Cholesterol's going to give you a heart attack. No, it doesn't. Sulf is going to give you high blood pressure. No, it doesn't. Your kidneys in the presence of sugar, kidneys in the presence of insulin, high circulating insulin or insulin resistance, holds on to sodium. It holds onto it, it retains it, and thus you get high blood pressure. It's amazing how many people when they do the reset and they get their insulin resistance down and their insulin is not circulating. It used to what happens? Their blood pressure comes down, they can't get over it because things got vilified. They're myths, they weren't true. It's a false premise and it's so important that you undo it. And I know my audience, they hear something different here. I know the doctor is in. We talk differently. And you know what I like? Don't even take my word for it. Get everything you can get your hands on, but you have to be able to filter out the myths. It's what I call discernment. Okay? Discernment, okay? You can be as smart and listen. When I was in school 50 years ago, I never stopped going to school by the way. I was always, always like postgraduate, learning, learning, learning, learning.
But I always wanted in my head to be able to discern things, okay? And I've always told you the story of my father, who is my hero, but was a discerning man very wise. He said, son, listen. Listen. It's called sugar diabetes. My dad was a diabetic in 1968. I get to school in the seventies and I'm taught different. They don't want to talk about sugar, diabetes, even in the seventies. They want to talk about genetics as being the cause of diabetes. And I knew they were wrong. I still had to learn it. They were calling it type two adult onset Diabetes never happens to kids. It's adult onset. And why is that? And they wouldn't blame sugar. No, they blame meat and they still, today, the gurus out there, you know what they do? They talk about moderation. Well, you just need to eat moderation.
Listen to this lie. You can't live without carbs. You can't. Yes you can. Yes you can. If you have high blood pressure, if you have inflammation without infection, you are sore all over or you're exhausted and you don't know why, because you are a carbo holic. My name is Tony and I'm a carbo holic, okay? If you're a diabetic or a pre, the very food that will make you a diabetic is not to be eaten in moderation. Come on, think about that for a minute. Oh, you're an alcoholic. Well, let's just have one beer a day. No, I wouldn't suggest that you're an alcoholic. You can't have any. I used to tell my patients, okay, I told somebody on the weekend, you and carbs don't get along. You like them, but they don't like you, okay? You and carbs don't get along, so don't fool yourself. You got high blood pressure, you and carbs don't get along. You got low cholesterol, you and carbs don't get along.
Okay? You got a bad relationship going on, and it's better to face the facts, better to understand even if the world out there tells you to eat crickets, don't buy it, guys. Don't buy it. I don't buy it. I never have because they're looking for love in all the wrong places. They're telling you something that's not true, but it's part of the narrative. You just have to understand it. It's what's taught. Nutrition isn't even taught in medical school, but when they do teach it, cholesterol, bad eggs, bad limit eggs, my friend. These are myths. And the more they study amino acid profiles, the more they realize, oh god, got it right. Eggs are perfect. Yep. Perfect amount of protein and fat. That's nature, cheese, dairy. You know why I am against certain dairy? I love dairy by the way. I really do. Okay? You see a dairy farmer, you give them a high five for me and they should be giving me a high five because I defend them all the time.
Dairy's good. Dairy has what? Protein, fat and very few carbohydrates like milk. There's some sugar in milk, not in nature, but it's not even worth talking about. Okay? Look at breast milk, nature. What's in breast? Milk? Protein. All the amino acids. Fat. Yeah, it's not fat free. Does a baby need carbs from mommy? No. You don't have to add any sugar, okay? It's the way it's meant to be, but we've undo that. We've undo that. We think we're smart. Man is smarter than God. No, because it's a myth. Protein will kill your kidneys. I hear that every day. Every day. Protein will kill your kidneys. No it won't. No it won't. Protein's good for your kidneys. It's sugar and it ain't salt either. Okay? The only time salt, and you guys should know this, anybody that's been listening to me for a while, I always have to understand there's new people on with us every day, okay?
I know that and I forget that sometimes, but that's why I do a lot of repetition. Well, first of all, I'm a very simple guy. I need repetition. Okay? For me, I repeat, repeat, repeat, rinse and repeat. That's me. Repetition. That's how I learn. It's how I talk. I repeat stuff all the time. I think it was Susan or she had me laughing because she said, Dr. Martin, you're the only guy that can say something a thousand times. And it sort of comes out a little different every time. I said, okay, well look, is this the first time or the last time I'm going to talk to you about protein? Doesn't damage your kidneys? Of course it's not going to be the last time. It's a big thing in hell. It's a big thing. These myths. And then at least there's some pushback. I saw it myself on Netflix.
Not that I watched it. I ain't going to bother. You are what you eat. I think that's what it's called. You are what you eat. Sounds wonderful. But you have to understand it ain't true, babe. It's propaganda. They're coming from a religious point of view. What do I mean by that? What climate? These people, everything has to do with the planet earth as if, okay, as if cows are bad for the planet and then they talk about everything that's in meat and makes it bad for you. You know what guys? Okay, let's be honest. I don't care if you eat one gazillion percent organic, you're still surrounded by chemicals. Now, I'm not against you minimizing that. I'm all for it. If you can afford organic everything, good for you. Hey, we got a coffee that's fully organic, no sprays, no nothing, but I'm just going to tell you, I always say it. Here comes repetition again, from the highest point in the world, Mount Everest to the placenta of every mother that's going to have a baby. Okay? And let me just say this too. Men don't have babies, okay? We don't. I know I'm old fashioned. I know that goes against the grain by going to say it anyway. Women get pregnant and the placenta has plastic, the placenta. You think you're going to get away from that?
No. Now, like I said, do everything you can personally from underarm deodorants to you name it. Lay off the aluminum and everything you can, but you're not getting away from it. You can move to an island on the Costa Rica and you're living by yourself. Okay? By yourself. Nobody else around you. I'm sorry. There's chemicals there too. Okay? There's chemicals there too. No, there might be less, but there's still chemicals there. There's still things that mimic estrogen in the environment. They're all around you. You're not getting away from it. You have to know that. You have to know it.
So myths, okay? Myths. High protein causes kidney disease. Red meat is the main culprit in cancer. A myth, okay? Elevated uric acid, gout. I've taught you this. Gout is not meat. You go in any medical textbook, you go in any site and you're going to read about purines and gout. That's not true. It's not purine, it's insulin. I was explaining to someone on the weekend, gout has been around for eons of time. The king got gout, the peasants didn't. The king was eating red meat. Nah. The king was drinking too much wine and fructose and his insulin was going up and the king didn't know it. And the king got gout. That's why they called it the rich man's disease or the king's disease. And today, why is gout going through the roof? You have no idea how many times I saw gout people come in, they didn't even get diagnosed with gout. They had pain. I said, let me see your joints. I said, you got gout? What? I hardly eat any red meat. I said, that's the problem. You're a carbo holic. Your insulin resistance is too high, especially fructose. You are drinking sugar. But Dr. Martin, it's Tropicana. I don't care what's causing your gout.
Lay off the juice, lay off the beer, lay off the alcohol. Alcohol goes directly to your liver just like fructose does. And you're making lots of uric acid. Myths, myths, myths that we have to undo. Guys, you would think here we are 20, 24. Shouldn't we be healthier than ever? Think about it. All the advancements in medicine, all of the advancements, human achievements and advancements, you got cars that drive themselves, and yet we are sicker than ever. We have more heart disease than ever. If cholesterol was the cause of heart disease, it would've been eradicated by now. The number one selling, I'm going to do a whole show, okay? Because I get asked this every day and I'm going to do a whole show on statin drugs. Okay? I'm sorry. There's just so many people asking me, we're going to do a deep dive together, okay?
Just tell me if you're in favor of that, okay? But guys, we have more heart disease than ever. Hey guys, we're not in the 18 hundreds here. Hello. We're in 2024. We have more heart disease. We have more cancer than ever. We spend more money on cancer and we're losing the war. We spend money on heart disease and we're losing the war. We spend billions and billions of dollars a day on diabetes and we're losing the war on diabetes we're spending and what it's going to cost our society gazillions of dollars on Alzheimer's and dementia. And we're losing the war on that. Not getting better. It's gotten worse. And again, because we're looking for love in all the wrong places. And I rest my case, if I was a lawyer and you were the jury, that's the statement. That was my opening statement or closing time to do something different. But I'm not holding my breath, I'm not holding my breath that things are going to change rapidly. There's vested interest guys. And when you see, okay, a film on Netflix, you are what you eat. I'll tell you, that's a vested interest. And people will buy it. I get it. They'll buy it. Oh, must be true. Meat's bad.
Like what? They feed the cows and this and that. And it's unreal as if fruits and vegetables are pristine, they're subject to the same things, and you enjoy your Vitamin S steak. Okay, guys, we got a great week coming up and you can already pitch forward and look forward to Friday, which is question and answer Friday. Are you ready to send me some questions? We love that program. Okay guys. We love you dearly, and I mean we'll talk to you soon.
