Dr. Martin answers questions sent in by our listeners in today's episode.
TRANSCRIPT OF TODAY'S EPISODE
Announcer: You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.
Dr. Martin: Well, good morning everyone. How are you? Welcome to another live this morning and hope you're having a great start to your day. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Okay, what are your thoughts? Carol saying asking, what are my thoughts on beta blockers? Okay, well, beta blockers, they give it to you when you have high blood pressure. Anybody that's ever had a heart attack or whatever has put on beta blockers almost guaranteed, and they lower your blood pressure. What do I think of them? Well, look, you just got to understand something. Beta blockers come with side effects. People that take beta blockers. Hey, I was in practice a long time. There was thousands of people that I saw over the years were wrong. Beta blockers never, ever, ever talked about getting off of them unless they could get their blood pressure under control. And a lot of them did, by the way, with reset. And the problem with beta blockers in terms of side effects, one of them is fatigue.
A lot of people just found fatigue. Men who were on beta blockers, a lot of them developed ed and arrhythmias and low blood pressure, the opposite. They'd stand up fast, it wouldn't feel good, dizzy, whatever. Look, there's a lot of side effects, but again, I try and get at the root of the problem. Why do people have high blood pressure? The vast majority of it happens because of the kidneys. And the kidneys are in trouble because people are eating way too much sugar, not protein, sugar. Don't ever worry about protein in your kidneys. Worry about sugar in your kidneys. And when you're on too much sugar, your kidneys will excrete your electrolytes. You can get high blood pressure from that and you can have, I mean, there's other reasons for high blood pressure, but that's the main one. That's the one that you can change.
So what do I think of better blockers? Well, if you need them, take them and try and fix the original cause of your blood pressure. That's what I suggest. Okay, Tina, what do I think of Dish, which is diffuse, idiopathic skeletal, hyper posis. Yikes. What a name I like dish better. Look, that's calcification. You're just putting down more and more bone. Is it curable? No. Probably not. It's a condition. Listen, one of the things I always tell people, look, when calcium belongs in your bones, but if it's too much, what do you try and do? Well, look, I always say this, okay, any condition of your joints or whatever, get strong. Let the muscles, the muscles are the key to your bones. They really are. Because muscles attach to bones, and the stronger your muscles are, the less problem you will have with your bones, spine, your knees, your hips get strong.
I tell people their neck, I got a lot of neck problems. Well get strong. Get strong in that back because those muscles are anchors. So if you've got this rare condition of calcium, bone building bone, well get strong. That's what I would tell people. Get strong. I'm not saying it's going to go away. I didn't say that. All I'm saying is it is going to be helpful as far as your insulin is concerned. People that are compromised When it comes to insulin resistance, one of the best things you can do, obviously low carb, but the other thing is getting strong. Build bins. Build bins, build storage space. Okay, metabolically, it really helps. Cheryl, what causes plantar fasciitis? Well, generally in my history or my experience, plantar fasciitis is usually the flattening of the metatarsal arch. It causes a cascade of problems. I saw plantar fasciitis so often.
It's much more frequent today, I think, but a lot of it has to do with footwear. I'm very big on the metatarsals and developing that. One of the best things you can do for plantar fasciitis is roll a ball, get a hard ball, tennis ball. Yeah, even a tennis ball. Roll your foot under there. You're watching TV sitting, roll it, roll it right back to the heel. A lot of people had calcium deposits in their heel spurs. Man, I saw that a lot. So it fell part of that metatarsal larch, I believe. And no fun plantar fasciitis can be very, very, very painful and very disabling. Okay? Okay. And I always hear Dr. Martin talk about his supplements or water soluble. Well, McKayla, that's not what I say. Okay? Some of them are okay, and some of them aren't water soluble. For example, navit ol water soluble, okay?
Vitamin B12, water soluble, fat soluble vitamins, vitamin D, do I talk about that a lot? You bet your boots, and that's a fat soluble vitamin. Okay? Vitamin A is a fat soluble vitamin, okay? Vitamin K is a fat soluble vitamin K2 fat soluble water soluble. It's the way the body absorbs it and doesn't accumulate in the liver. But let me just say this, I got to say it because people, they've taken fat soluble and they've made it into a religion. It's so stupid. And that's why people, there's so many people that just don't understand vitamin D, for example, which is a fat soluble vitamin, but they always, oh, that means you can become toxic. Yeah, I guess you could. But here's the studies. Here's the research. In order to become toxic on vitamin D, one would have to take 50,000 IUs every day for six months.
I mean, who does that? Nobody does. And I've always said this, people are not lined up in the emergency rooms because they take too much vitamin D that is, it's just, I saw somebody online the other day talking about the dangers of vitamin D and I go, yeah, if that's what you want to focus on, but the benefits are unreal, unreal, and day in and day out. So Michaela, I have fat soluble vitamins, take them every day, and I take water soluble vitamins every day. Okay? So not all supplements are water soluble. Thanks for the question. It gives us a chance to go over that. Okay? I don't know who asked this question. Sea plant. I don't know who that is. What can help nodular per regal, okay, that is a skin condition. Anytime you look at skin, anytime you look at skin, you look at skin, I look at the gut, okay, is this an autoimmune disorder?
I believe it is. Okay. I look at the gut people, look what they can see the skin. Whenever you see anything on your skin, look internally, your skin is just an organ like any other organ. It's the largest organ in the body. But you always have to look inside out when you look at skin. So when you see the skin conditions, I always go to leaky gut and leaky gut. I got my T-shirt on here. Don't feed the bearers. One of the things that comes out on the skin in any autoimmune for skin is fungus, leaky gut, leaky skin, leaky gut, leaky brain, leaky gut, leaky lungs, leaky gut, leaky sinuses, leaky gut, leaky joints. And even when you go back to the question about the idiopathic calcification, I almost guarantee you that started in the gut. Okay? The gut is so key. When you look at your skin, look inside out, okay?
Thanks for the question. We appreciate it. Lay off the sugar and don't feed the bears and make sure you're taking broad spectrum probiotics. Okay? That's the key. Key, key key. Okay? Bev, if someone has been on statins for 20 years, can their body repair itself? It's amazing. It's amazing how your body is into self-repair. You are fearfully, bev, and wonderfully made. Your body is able to regenerate. So someone that's been on statin drugs for 20 years, one of the biggest things that statins do is they destroy coq 10. They destroy ubiquinol, they destroy it. Your body makes coq 10 and coq 10 is important for every battery pack that you have in your body, all your mitochondria, you got more mitochondria in your brain and your heart than anywhere else. Brain and heart. Heart and brain. That's why I'm so big on ubiquinol, because people that have taken statin drugs, they often side effects.
Hey, one of the side effects of statin drugs is insulin resistance. Just by taking that medication, the medication, RMBO, theis, you know what that is? Muscle damage. That's funny. I thought your heart was a muscle. You're taking it for heart disease. And yet I thought your heart was a muscle. One of the side effects is thrombolysis. The other side effect is memory. The biggest side effect in women of statin medications is diabetes because it causes insulin resistance and it causes diabetes, especially in women. Your body is unreal, okay? And again, I'm not telling people to stop their medications. I'm just telling you, if they stop, the body regenerates. It's amazing. It's amazing. But anybody that you know, please give them this memo. Give them the notice that they should be. I just can't get over. I've said this a thousand times, and I'll say it a thousand times more.
Anyone that is on a statin drug, Lipitor, Crestor, Zocor, you name it, or that is not on coq 10, ubiquinol are making a huge mistake. Now, they don't even know it. It bothers me. Doctors don't know it. And they should, but even worse are pharmacists because they know it. They know it. Now, one of the side effects of statin drugs to lower your cholesterol is the destruction of coq 10 in your body. Now think about that. Coq 10, your mitochondria don't work properly without it. Mitochondria are your battery packs. You got bazillions of them up here. Imagine a medication that destroys your battery packs in your brains, and nobody's telling you about that. But guys, I have been saying and consistently saying this for 50 years, five, oh, been in practice screaming like John the Baptist about statin medications, screaming the side effects of hammering to lower cholesterol, hammering down cholesterol, cholesterol, cholesterol, cholesterol.
Every day. Every day. I read about it, I hear about it. It's so pervasive in medicine. I'm never confident that we're ever going to change doctor's minds, ever. They've been so indoctrinated to lower cholesterol when cholesterol is the guy, it's the boogeyman and it really isn't. But if anybody's on a statin medication, please would you at least take quinol, not quinol, ubiquinol. You need it Essential, yada, yada, yada. Okay, thank you for the question, Beth Teresa. Okay. I'm curious to know if the thyroid balance supplement will regulate my eye. Antibodies? Yes. Look again. Okay. If you have any autoimmune, where do I start? The gut. But let's say you have graves or Hashimoto's Graves, hyperthyroidism and Hashimoto's hypothyroidism. You've got to try and balance it. Understand again, and look, I think you can go online, go to our site, whatever. I'm sure it's there. I'm not sure. What do I know? I'm the old guy. If my son was on this program right now, he'd tell you in an instant. And our staff, Nick, Jeanette. Okay, Brandy, another. They'll tell you, I don't know where to find it exactly. It's probably somewhere on our site. Take the thyroid course.
Take the thyroid course. Because what you'll find out there, what we've been teaching at the Martin Clinic for eons of time is the thyroid is a puppet. It's got a lot of strings attached. Tony Jr. Likes to call. The thyroid is being framed. It's being blamed where the cause is coming from another source, because you got the brain, your hypothalamus, your pituitary gland, you've got your liver. It's very important, your liver. That's why the reset helps with the thyroid. Why does the reset help with the thyroid? One, you're not feeding the bears your gut, okay? Because remember, in order for your thyroid to work properly, it's T three, T three, T three, T three. But most of the hormone made is T four. There has to be a conversion. And that conversion mostly in the liver liver's very important to keep it empty. So your thyroid works properly, the gut 20% happens in the gut.
Then you have your adrenals involved with the thyroid. Okay? Why is that? Because cortisol messes up the thyroid. That messes up the thyroid. And then you have estrogen. Too much estrogen. You're too much of a woman, not enough progesterone. That messes up your thyroid. You see your thyroid is being framed. So when you're asking me the question about the antibodies, yes, get your thyroid. That supplement helps whether it's high, whether it's low, it's meant to balance, and it works on the pituitary. It works on the hypothalamus, it works on the liver in the conversion of T four to T three. It works on the gut in the conversion of T four to T three. It's a broad spectrum supplement to help. Am I in love with that thyroid supplement? You bet your boots. I am because I had to have results in the clinic. It works.
Yes, but there's other things. There's food. There's your leaky gut. You got to fix. If you have too much estrogen, you got to fix. That's why women have much more trouble with the thyroid than men do. Okay? Not that men can't have problems. Okay, thank you, Issa. I think I said that right. Well, there's two bes. What does Dr. Martin think about taking baking soda every day? I don't like it. Why are you doing that? I want to know why you want to become alkaline. No, because if you take baking soda, you're going to reduce acidity in your stomach in the very place that you should be acidic.
I don't like that. It's like people that are telling you, oh darn, I got to have alkaline water. It's got to be so high up there. Why? You're trying to neutralize your stomach acidity. Remember? And guys, I just got to say it, okay. I get a headache, I get a migraine. I see this stuff on Netflix, okay? I haven't seen it, but people are talking about it. And one lady yesterday on our private Facebook group said, I'm on the fence now because I watched a documentary on animal kingdom foods. You shouldn't be eating them because it's all toxic. And the farmers and the way they treat the animals and this and that, look your stomach. Listen, Linda and Larry, your stomach, a human being stomach, you want to eat for your blood type what? Well, are you a human being? Yes, I'm a human being.
Okay, well that makes you different. You're different than the animal kingdom. Okay? Your stomach was made to eat meat. It was made for that. That's why your stomach ought to be so acidic. Use it or lose it. Gallbladder. Why do women lose their gallbladder? Mostly women. They eat salad. Well, fat, no good for me, right? They're salad. I've been screaming as long as I can scream. And that's been a long time. Would you stop? You're not a rabbit. Your body wasn't made to live on plants. I am sorry. It isn't. You are not a rabbit. You're not a cow. A cow eats grass so you don't have to, your stomach was made for meat. That's why it's so acidic. It's even more acidic than the lion's stomach. And why do we see so much acid reflux today? Because people are not eating meat. They're eating plants too much.
You want to have your salad, okay? Have your salad. But don't come back and tell me that's what we're supposed to eat Dr. Martin, according to Netflix, okay? And I'm telling you, it's an agenda. If you can't see it, what can I tell you? Listen to Bill Gates. Let's get rid of the farmers. I'll make up some crickets that you can eat. Or we're going to have meatless burgers. We're going to have you name it. It's propaganda guys, because your body, your body, listen, Linda and Larry was made for meat, especially red meat. So I guess you can scream at the farmers and yeah, they use, but you think there's no pesticides or herbicides in the plant kingdom. It gives me a migraine. I'm sorry, I can't get over it. How the world is being duped. They got duped on cholesterol. They got duped on sugar, they got duped on animal kingdom foods. You're meant to eat eggs, meat, and cheese. Now, if you can get better sources and you can get farmers and your farmer ought to be your best friend, but you have to understand something about me. I talk to 4 million downloads of the doctors in. I'm talking to everybody that I can. I'm going to talk in generalities. Okay? Meat you need, you're not going to drop dead right away if you don't eat meat. But that doesn't make it right. That doesn't make it healthy. Okay? Now I got excited. What was the question?
Baking soda. We're talking about baking soda. Why do you want to take baking soda? You want to neutralize your acidity in your stomach. Nah, stomach don't do that. Okay, Stacey, can fruit increase triglyceride? Well, you'd have to live on it for it to increase your triglycerides. Nah, I mean, look, what did I say? What do I say? You can eat some fruit. They're God's candies. You got any trouble with insulin? Be very careful with fruit. And what's my rule? Don't drink fruit. Don't drink it. Okay, but will it elevate your triglycerides? And you'd have to eat a lot of fruit to elevate your triglycerides.
Okay, good question. I appreciate the question, Stacey. Catherine, what could cause a urinary infection in men? The same thing that causes it in women bacteria. But if it's reoccurring. And listen, Catherine is saying her son had obviously a urine test and found out he had bacteria in his urine and they say you have a bacterial infection. Nah, not really. Because listen, if you have no symptoms, please don't treat that. Don't treat it. Don't take an antibiotic. In my opinion, when you have a urinary tract infection with no symptoms, you're just going to make it worse. It's going to come back with a vengeance. And then you're creating yeast, fungus in the bladder. That's a big, big, big, big problem, especially in women.
Don't do it. Okay? And make sure if you have to take an antibiotic, take a probiotic, always take it with it, take it during it, take it after. And always What supplement you should be on all the time. No breaks. Probio, never take a break from a probiotic. You need trillions, not billions, trillions, okay? And again, that's another thing I've been screaming about for 50 years. Consistent. Probiotic. Probiotic when people didn't even know what they were. Okay, Catherine, thank you for that. Paul. I'm having high HCT. Is it due to having mild sleep apnea? No, not really. And Paul is saying about too many red blood cells. Look, sleep apnea is caused by fatty tongue. What is a growth hormone on your tongue? You talk too much. I'd have a big tongue because I talk a lot. Okay? No. What are the growth hormones? Insulin.
That's what causes sleep apnea. Not a lack of oxygen. Okay? And actually when you have more red blood cells, you're not getting as much oxygen because those red blood cells, when you have too many, don't carry the hemoglobin that you should have. Go back to the blood. Paul. I would look at B12. I usually look at that. And you're not eating enough steak, in my opinion. I don't know you Paul, but maybe you are. Maybe you're weird. I'm just teasing. Okay, Carolyn Hook. The doc talks about lab grown coffee. Who's asking that? Carolyn? I don't know. I don't like it. I can tell you right out of the gate, I don't like it. Why are you playing with nature Lab grown coffee? I don't like lab grown. I never tasted it. I love the Bean. This comes from the plant. I'm the bean guy. If lab grown coffee has a thousand phytonutrients in it probably doesn't. Therefore Dr. Martin don't like it.
All comes back again. What are they trying to do? Get away from nature. Lab grown meat lab grown coffee, lab grown. I can't stand it. Okay, if you saw, okay, we searched out this bean for good for me coffee. I'll tell you, it is unreal when you analyze that bean how good it is for. It's like taking a multivitamin big time. But I love coffee. You guys know that. I've been saying it for so long. It'll make your head spin. Consistent. Consistent. When people have said coffee's, acetic, coffee's no good. Coffee is terrible. Coffee is, I was screaming. You are wrong. Coffee is a phytonutrient. There's nothing better than, well, in my opinion. Coffee lab grown. I don't know. I haven't tasted it. I don't like it out of the gate because what are they trying to do? Any who? Okay. Okay, Heather got to go.
Let's go a little faster. If one is told they have arterial plaque, okay, is there something they can do? Yeah, vitamin D and vitamin K2. It'll take calcium and put it where it belong. I'm huge on that. Look, when you eat a piece of cheese, what's in there? Vitamin K2. It's taking calcium, which is in cheese, and it's bringing it to the right place. Calcium don't belong in your blood. You don't want it to stay there. You want it to go where it belongs. Vitamin K2 is key to that. That's why I'm so big on it. You can eat vitamin K2. What's the highest source? Cheese. Cheese. Curds. Butter. When they were screaming at butter, for heaven's sake, what is going to help arterial plaque more than anything else? Butter. Not margarine. Okay. Sorry Heather. Jocelyn, what does Dr. Martin think of grounding sheets and masks? I don't know much about it to be look, walk barefoot, right? That's what they tell you. Look, I agree. It's not necessarily my area of expertise, but I am very suspicious of that. Okay? Man has done some good things and one of them is when they created shoes.
Okay? Grounding. I get it. It's like mother earth and mother earth. And if you can get your feet on the ground and you get all this and that, I don't know. I've looked at it. I don't know if I buy it. Okay, I'm sorry. I'm skeptical. I like walking on the beach. I do barefoot. Is that grounding? I hope so. These mats, all that, I don't know. Sheets. I don't know if you find it helps you go for it. I'm not against it. I just don't know if I buy it. Okay. And if it tells you it cures everything from pimples on your nose to warts on your toes, don't believe it. Okay. That's marketing. Okay. I read some stuff on grounding and cure his pants. Nah. No it doesn't. Okay. No it doesn't. Anyway, but I admit I don't know that much about it.
Okay, I admit hella. What are some possible reasons I could be shaky all over? Well, there's a lot of reasons. If it's internal and you feel like a vibration, that's often high cortisol. Okay? If it's external and you can actually see it, your hand is shaking, whatever. Look, it's a tremor. It could be a lot of things including Parkinson's, but it can be a non-pathological tremor too. I often look that anything with a tremor, I look at deficiencies. Vitamin D often B12 often. Okay, so thanks for the question. Hello, Nez, my friend. Insist her vegetable protein is better than my Martin clinic bone broth. Look, again, it's propaganda.
Look, plant protein is all right. I didn't say it was okay. Don't ever quote me as saying Dr. Martin doesn't like plants. That's not true. It's just not true either that plants plant protein especially is better than animal protein. It doesn't have the amino profile amino acid profile of animal protein. It doesn't. And for example, one of the things that people love bone broth for is L glutamine. It really helps regenerate your gut. I love L glutamine. Okay? It's not in the plants. There's not enough L glutamine in plant protein for a mouse. So look, I get it. Vegetable protein. Vegetable protein. I don't like it compared to animal protein. Okay, like a pea protein or whatever. Nah, I don't like that stuff. I never have. Never have. Okay. Okay, Andrew, I know you like keratin. I've read rootin is similar in wondering your thought. I like rootin. Okay. I like rootin. Very similar. Rutten's got some keratin in it. I like keratin better because it's more complex than rootin, but I like rootin. Okay? So I would say good, better, best, right? You know me, that's the way I like it. And so rootin is good. No doubt about it is good. Okay. You eat a fruit, you got rootin in it.
I'm not against that. Pine bark has rootin in it. It also has curatin in it, but coffee is even better. It's got a lot more curatin in it. So curatin better. That's the way I see it. Okay, thanks for the question, Andrew. Kathy, I know there are a lot of different fats on food labels. For instance, bacon has monos. Saturated fats. Yeah, trans fats. Nah. Well, they shouldn't have too many saturated fats. Is there any specific fat? We should avoid trans fat. And you get a good bacon. You got no trans fat there. Okay? I don't like trans fat.
Okay, so Kathy, read your labels. I'm glad you're doing it. Good for you. Look, if it's got a touch of trans fat in it, but I love bacon. You got more potassium in bacon than you have in 10 bananas. Okay? Bananas. Get the credit and bacon's better for you. Got it. Don't avoid bacon, please. I love bacon. Bacon's good for you. And it's got oleic acid, more oleic acid than olive oil has. And everybody agrees. Olive oil's good for you. Okay? Yeah. And the fats you should avoid too are those seed oil fats, okay? Canola oil and soy oil and rice, bran oil and peanut oil and all that. Avoid that stuff. Okay? Debbie, what are the best supplements to improve EGFR and creatinine levels? Well, that's your kidneys. The best supplement in my opinion. Navit all it increases nitric oxide. One of the best kidney supplements that you can get is pine bark extract.
I love high DHA because it helps with your blood vessels, makes your blood vessels and kidneys is blood supply. That's why sugar is so damaging to kidneys. So high DHA, I love that. Okay. And Navit all would be my favorites. Okay. Thank you. Debbie. Laurie, a physician I work with told us that the reason we have trouble going to sleep and staying asleep is because their pineal gland. Well, you tell your physician, they're right in a lot of ways, the pineal gland and as we get older, it ages but not, you know what the best thing is for your pineal gland, your third eye melatonin, the sun.
If you want to decrease the aging of your pineal gland, get in the sun, especially when it's a bright day. And get your sunglasses off. Now don't go looking in the sun. I didn't say that. Just allow that sunlight to get into your third eye, your pineal gland, and you'll make lots of melatonin to have a good night's sleep. Okay, mark. I have had low sodium for three years, okay? And that's kidney. That's kidney. Your kidneys are stressed, your kidneys are not functioning properly. If you have low sodium, ever since I had food intolerances, is there a connection, man? Maybe. Maybe leaky gut, leaky kidneys. But your kidneys are stressed. Lay off the sugar, get on Navitol, get on high DHA. Okay?
Okay, guys, we went a little extra today. Wanted to get to all of them. I think I got every one of them. And Monday afternoon session. Okay? So we're going to start a new timing here for a few months, Mondays and Thursdays afternoons. That's what I'm scheduled. We'll post it and we'll talk to you more about that so you're well aware, okay? If you want to watch live. Okay guys, we love you. Talk to you soon.
