Announcer: You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.
Dr. Martin: Well, good morning everyone. Once again, welcome to another live this morning. Hope you're having a great start to your day. Okay, couple of new studies came out. I just got to talk to you about it, and some of these are blow your socks off type of, when I say that, blow your socks off. These are studies that are very significant and yet probably to some extent hidden, not going to hear a lot about it. They're not going to get a lot of ink. And really it's my job to search out these studies for you, to bring you the news behind the news. So let me bring one out here that didn't surprise me, but a study on ms. Multiple sclerosis and this study said that there's a crucial role in vitamin B12 uptake and ms. Okay, now what is ms. Autoimmune horrendous disorder. We see more of it today than ever been around a long time and I've talked about it a long time.
Ms. And this study says there's a crucial role for B12 when you can't uptake that B12 properly, you much more at risk for ms. And again, does it surprise us? No, because we have been talking about this for a long time. B12, B12, B12 nerves, the myelin sheet, the protective sheep of your nerves, very much affected by B12. Okay? You get even with neuropathy, diabetic neuropathy or any kind of neuropathy, I always tell people, check your B12 levels any paraesthesia in the face around the mouth. B12, B12, B12, and how do you get B12 in food? Why are we so deficient today? Because people don't eat red meat. They think it's bad for them. Again, is there ever a week that goes by that I don't talk about that nonsense that's out there? It's absolute nonsense. Your body was made to eat meat and your body especially was made to eat red meat.
And why do I know that? Because of the acidity of your stomach. Because the way your teeth are arranged, you're meant to eat meat and red meat especially, you can't get B12. It's not found in the plant kingdom. It just isn't. I'm not saying don't eat plants. I'm saying that you can't eat plants exclusively. That's what I'm saying because you're not getting B12, you're only fooling yourself if you're a vegetarian, you're fooling yourself. If you're a vegan, you're fooling yourself. You need to supplement and most people need to supplement anyway. They don't get enough of it. B12 is a finicky vitamin on the best of days, and the reason I always said this for the last almost 50 years is because B12, first of all, it's almost like you need a perfect storm to even absorb it properly. Your stomach needs to have the intrinsic factor and the intrinsic factor only works when you have enough acidity in your stomach.
If you don't eat meat, you don't have enough acidity in your stomach. If you eat carbs all the time and sugars, you don't have enough acidity in your body. And I don't mean everywhere else. I mean in your stomach. We talk about it, we talk about it, we talk about it, and 80% of the population have digestive issues. And one of the biggest factors is could they eat the wrong food? They think that fiber is the most important food in the world. They've been duped, they've been lied to. It's not true. And now we're seeing major effects because of the world's paradigm shift from meat to fiber, and we're seeing people that are very devoid of vitamin B12 and vitamin D two because that's a fat soluble vitamin B12 is essential.
Do you hear me talking about the other B vitamins? No. If you eat steak, you're going to get all your B vitamins. I mean, so here we are. Another study. This one's significant, very, very important. And I didn't say it while I have been saying it, but I say this. This is a study that came out and said, look, Ms, very devoid of B12, why would you not protect yourself? Why would you not protect your nerve roots? Why would you not do that? You need vitamin B12. Okay? So that was a big study that came out and it's significant. Again, you can put your hand up if you've seen that study. I'm telling you guys, they bury stuff like this because it goes against the narrative. Just understand there's a narrative out there. It's not going to get better. In my opinion, it's going to get worse because it's the narrative of we got to get rid of cows we don't want because they're bad for the planet. We got to get rid of those farmers. It just drives me batty, batty, okay, here's another very significant study that was done over four years, and actually they're still going to wait till it's fully published.
It's in its third year, and in 2024, they're going to come out with it. They sent out these preliminary findings. Again, you might've seen it. I doubt it. Here's the takeaway from the study, unless things change in the last year, but here's their takeaway, having low LDL, okay, low density lipoprotein having low cholesterol. Cholesterol is the boogeyman, right? So here's a study hammering down the LDL. You know what? It does nothing.
As a matter of fact, in this study, they're elevating the LDL. They want to elevate it to see if it has any correlation between plaque. They're measuring plaque. You know what? Plaque is calcified blood vessels and they can measure it. And you know what they're saying? There's no correlation. There's no correlation. You can elevate your LDL, which is supposed to be bad cholesterol. There's no such thing guys as bad cholesterol. Again, I want to be respectful. It's bs. I get so uptight when I hear let's get that cholesterol down and every day. And I don't mind you asking, I really don't mind you asking this because it's not your fault. Okay? You go to the doctor, okay? You go to your doctor and the doctor is concerned. Every day, every day, seven days a week, I hear it. My doctor is concerned about my cholesterol. My doctor is concerned about my cholesterol. Cholesterol is high. You are going to have a heart attack. They scared the living life out of you. And you're not a doctor.
You are not a doctor. So I get it, man. Oh man. Scary. You're going to have a heart attack. I'm concerned about your cholesterol. They get your blood test. They don't even look at your A1C unless it's almost seven. That's what they should be looking at. Because when that A1C goes up and when your triglycerides go up, that's what they should be looking at. And when your cholesterol goes down, that's what they should be looking at. Okay? I have to tell you over and over and over again that I do not concern myself with cholesterol other than I want to know that your HDL is high and even your LDL, okay, doc, I got high LDL. Good for you. That's what this study is saying. When they try and hammer down the LDL, it don't do nothing. It does not have any effect on plaque. Now, again, I bet you dollars to donuts that you will other than hear, you're not going to hear about this study. You won't.
Because again, we have a narrative, red meat, bad cholesterol, bad, and they just haven't caught up with the science. And listen, guys, look, you have to understand something. And I look, I believe with all my heart that 99.9% of every cardiologist on the planet means, well, I can't go into people's motives. I don't go into a doctor's motive. I don't don't know their heart. I don't know. But I do know that vast majority of people that go to medical school, they go to medical school, they're smart, obviously, and they want to help, I think, right? I went to be a doctor. I wanted to help people. I'm a people person. But guys, don't be fooled.
You ain't changing their minds because in medical school, when they start on day one, medicine in a lot of ways, and again guys, I'm making blanket statements and there's always exceptions to blanket statements, okay? I'm going to make a blanket statement. Medicine. I should actually write a book about this. Got hijacked. Medicine got hijacked about 50, 60 years ago. They got hijacked. The pharmaceutical companies took over medicine and they invented a disorder called cholesterol causing heart disease. It's invented. And I've given you the background. I told you about Ansel Keys. One man. One man, and they all jumped on the bandwagon. The cereal companies got involved. We got a lower cholesterol. There are no cholesterol in cereals, you see? And they taught it. And you know the only nutrition that was taught. Listen, I got taught by this, okay? Just have to understand. I took 2000 hours of nutrition to get my PhD.
I took a lot of nutrition, but I got taught the old way in a way, okay? Here's what I mean by that. When I was doing this, I was being taught that cholesterol was bad. Now, I got to tell you something. I never believed it for a minute, but I got taught it cholesterol bad because in nutrition, listen, okay, I don't know if I've ever told you this story or not. I think I did. I told you about Ansel Keys, right? President Eisenhower had a heart attack. And he said, I know what caused that cholesterol. And he got all the ink and he even got on Time Magazine, front page, his pictures there. And so keys, it's cholesterol. Didn't even talk about President Eisenhower smoking four packs of cigarettes a day. They didn't see the correlation in the 1950s between smoking and heart disease. Did you know that?
Now go back to the 1920s, okay? Just because I'm a historian when it comes to health, okay? I love history all around. When I was in school, I told you I majored in recess. Remember I told you that I hated school, okay? Except history. I loved history, okay? I always got good marks in history, always. I loved it. Tell me about history. I love it. Even today, my wife tells me, why are you always talking about the good old days or whatever, right? You drive me crazy. Yeah, but I like history. Okay? She says, you remember everything about your childhood. Everything, yeah, I like history. Okay? Now, in the 1920s, Dr. Kellogg's took over. There was very little teaching in nutrition. He took it over. And since then, and again, I don't want to get too religious, but I just got to tell you that the Seventh Day Adventist, Dr. Kellogg's was a Seventh Day Adventist. And they believed no meat. You eat vegetables. And he created cereal.
And remember, they took over. They started the dietician profession. All of nutrition was being taught by Dr. Kellogg's and his friends. I'm not getting you. That's his historical. So can you imagine what happened? And they permitted. So if you wanted to take any nutrition, even back then, medical schools didn't teach nutrition. They got away from it. They left it to another profession, the dieticians and whatever. What did they teach? Look at the food pyramid. It's upside down because cholesterol became the boogeyman. So what happened? Big food, big food, and big pharma, because pharma, they're not stupid. If cholesterol is the problem, let's lower it. Let's find a medication to lower it. And thus, the most successful medication of all time, not success in terms of getting rid of heart disease, but success in lowering cholesterol and success at the bank. The number one selling drug of all time is a drug to lower cholesterol. It had more sales and has more sales than aspirin, for heaven's sakes. That's a fact. Remember, dragnet, only the facts, ma'am, give me the facts. And that's what happened. So you have big pharma, big food.
They took over medicine and I had a dear friend, cardiologist, and they would lose their license if they didn't give you a statin drug. I said, well, what was their cholesterol numbers? Normal. Well, why do you give 'em statin drugs? I have to. It's part of the cocktail they need. If they ever have a heart attack, my friend, that is what's happened. Are you going to change it? No. Am I going to change it? Nope. I'm not trying to change the world. I'm not. I'm trying to change you. I'm aiming at you. I want you to think outside the box because that's what happened. Even in nutrition, even today, take a course on nutrition online. You are going to get the propaganda. What's at the top? Vegetables and fruit. They're the best. And grains, you need grains. Why? Because we said so. That's why. And don't question it. If you're going to eat any meat, not much, and certainly not red. And the whole world went for it. They went for it. We have a whole world trying to lower cholesterol. And what we're finding, if they're honest, the studies are bearing this out. It don't make a hoo a difference. If you are lowering your cholesterol, it don't make a hoo a difference. Not going to lower your plaque in your artery. As a matter of fact, it's the opposite.
Looking for love in all the wrong places. Now, you've heard this many a time, but when studies are coming out and they're showing you can eat a hundred eggs a week, okay, eat a hundred eggs a week. And people have asked me that, doc, how many eggs can I eat when I'm on the reset? I don't care. What? I don't care. You want to have a hundred a week? Okay, I don't care. What? I don't care. It's only good for you. Eggs, meat and cheese, eggs, meat and chase, and you got to eat red meat. Well, Dr. Martin and I, I was sure red meat was acidic. That's what they told me. It's acidic nono. Dr. Miranda, where am I going to get my fiber? If I don't have fiber? I ain't going to go to the bathroom. Well drink water and drink coffee. You'll be fine, Linda. Listen, Larry, listen. You want to feed your good bacteria? It's a prebiotic. I say nonsense. Okay? You're constipated. Oh, why am I even talking about this? You are constipated.
It's your fibroid. It's not fiber. You're sluggish. Why do you want to increase the volume of your number two? It never made sense to me. Drink water. And the best fiber is coffee. And there's nothing that will feed your good bacteria like steak, nothing. And eggs and cheese. You want to eat to eat what your microbiome adores it adores steak. That's what you got. You know how many tens of thousands of patients that I used to see had digestive trouble? And I said, listen here, Linda, when you quit eating all that fiber, what? Stop you’re irritating, your gut's irritated. It's inflamed. What do you think IBS means? Irritable bowel. My bowel is irritated. Yeah, because you are a fiber-aholic. Got it?
Guys, I better stop because I'm getting excited. But when I see these studies, you have to understand, I've been around for a long time as my kids' grandchildren say, grandpa, you were born in the days of Noah, weren't you? Yeah, pretty close. Okay, so guys, don't be duped. Don't be duped. Cholesterol is not your enemy. It's on your side. It's on your side. God don't trust you to make enough of it from your food. He don't trust you. You can't be trusted. Well, you can't, but the world out there can't be trusted. So 85% of cholesterol is made by the body. God makes it and he asks you to put in your 15%. Okay, guys, we love you so much. We do. Okay. What an audience. Smartest in the world. Okay. You got any questions for Friday? Send them in. Okay? We love you dearly. We'll talk to you soon.
