321. The 3 Most Common Underlying Health Issues

Transcript Of Today's Episode

Announcer: You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by martinclinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.

Dr.Martin: Good morning everyone. I'm going to talk today ... Let me, let me just go ... because I've got a few questions yesterday after talking about fat. Remember yesterday was the fat [00:00:30] day. We talked about fat, not getting fat, eating fat. How important it is for you. Because people ... fat has become a boogeyman in our society. It was never right. And then I divided yesterday three fats from God's kingdom, and then man's kingdom and animal fat, and I brought out a bottle of ... Somebody was asking yesterday about what's the best olive [00:01:00] oil. Well, make sure it is extra virgin, cold pressed olive oil. You pay a little bit more, but that's the best olive oil. And it's got to be in a dark bottle, guys. If you can see that oil, it's going to become rancid very quickly. So dark, dark bottle, cold pressed, extra virgin. That's the best olive oil. Okay, so that's one.

Dr.Martin: [00:01:30] Two, people were asking me about bacon and nitrates. Now a lot has been made about nitrates in deli meat, bacon. Guys, you have more nitrates in vegetables. Yeah, there's a lot of nitrates in vegetables. I don't get the big deal about that. I know they've been [00:02:00] saying that for years. Look, if you want to get just natural bacon, nothing there, yeah, of course. You've got to understand where I'm coming from, because when I talk about stuff, look, if you can get ... like I talked about DHA yesterday, right? By the way, there is more DHA, which is your best long chain fatty acid, there's more of that in a steak than there is in fish.

Dr.Martin: [00:02:30] Yeah. Now grass fed beef. And look, you're still better having a piece of steak than a piece of bread any day of the year. So, look, I always talk in generalities. You have to understand that. We've got thousands of people watching these things and I can ... "Oh, if the bacon isn't all natural with absolutely nothing [00:03:00] added, it's no good for you." No, it's still good for you. I mean there's good and better. So that's ... I have to deal with people that ... a lot of people don't even have budgets or can't find grass fed beef. I get it, but I'm talking in generalities. Here's another question about fat yesterday. What's the best cooking oils? What's the [00:03:30] best cooking oil? Well, the ones with the highest smoke point, meaning that you can bring it up to a high temperature, is butter. And butter, what fat is in butter? In dairy, there's a specific fat, it's called CLA. HDA, EPA, CLA. Okay.

Dr.Martin: And in the plant kingdom you have ALA, better, it's more Omega-3. And LA, which is Omega-6. [00:04:00] And again, it's not bad. The problem we talked about yesterday is the high ratio between Omega-6 and Omega-3. That's the problem. People are eating so much processed foods with hydrogenated oils, vegetable oils. That's a problem. Now to cook, butter, G, lard, and then your fruit oils, coconut, olive. Olive oil is a tremendous [00:04:30] oil to cook with. Avocado. Those are fruit oils, not vegetable oils. They're fruit oils and they're very good. Somebody asked me about grape seed oil. No, highly refined. It's usually highly refined. So, unless you pay a lot of money for grape seed oil, but why would you do that? Get olive oil, or get avocado, coconut oil. An extra virgin coconut oil is the best. So those [00:05:00] kinds of things you can cook with. Not corn oil. Corn oil is highly, highly refined. It's highly refined, corn oil. I wouldn't touch that stuff. It's very high in Omega-6 and it's refined so I wouldn't touch that stuff. So here's what I want to talk about this morning.

Dr.Martin: Those are good questions. I'm trying to answer all your questions. [00:05:30] Sunflower, don't touch it. Don't touch it. It's a vegetable oil. It is highly processed. It is full of Omega-6. It's highly processed. Don't touch that. Canola, no. Canola, you can run your car on canola. Okay, so I gave you the list. Butter, G, lard, the old days of using lard, eh? Which is bacon fat, really. That's what it is.

Dr.Martin: [00:06:00] Okay, so guys, here we go. We're going to talk about a couple of things. These are common things with COVID-19. A couple of common things that they've found. We've touched on it a little bit, but this is now that they've ... we know more about that virus. Mind you guys, we're all going to be experts on COVID-19. We're going to know more than anybody else. We just ... It's bombarded every stinking day. But this [00:06:30] came out yesterday that already some preliminary studies are being done. They're more observational studies obviously at this stage, but with blood work and that, here's what they're finding. Three things primarily. Three things we'll talk about this morning.

Dr.Martin: One, the vast majority of people that have lung issues with COVID-19, because this is a lung disorder. [00:07:00] COVID-19 loves your lungs. That virus attacks the lungs. So usually it'll come in through your eyes, your nose or your mouth and it will get into your lungs. If you're going to be sick from it, it'll be lungs. You know what they're finding? Low levels of vitamin D in people. Almost 90% of people that have been hospitalized, listen to this, are low in vitamin D. Now, I [00:07:30] don't know how many times I got to talk about vitamin D, how important it is to you, why it's so significant. Guys, your body doesn't work without that vitamin. It's not even a vitamin, really. It isn't. It's a hormone. So you can't live without vitamin D and vitamin D, even then, has been given a bad rap in a sense that because it's fat soluble, people talk about being toxic in vitamin [00:08:00] D.

Dr.Martin: I tell you in all the years I've been in practice, 46 coming up soon in May, I can't even think of one case really where vitamin D was high. Look, it can get high, but they weren't toxic from it. I read a case last year in Windsor and oh, it was made big headlines in Windsor. One person had kidney stones [00:08:30] because they said his vitamin D ... You're taking too much vitamin D. One stinking person. Guys, there are people that actually, I bet you, they drink too much water and go to the hospital. One in Canada.

Dr.Martin: Guys, they make a headline out of stupidity. For one person that might become toxic with vitamin D, here's what they're showing just with COVID-19, 90% of the people [00:09:00] that went into the hospital were low in vitamin D. I'm even shocked that they even checked that. Doctors don't relate vitamin D other than anything else other than bones. It's not that they won't tell you to take vitamin D. They'll tell a woman, take vitamin D. But in the same breath, they'll take tell that woman that she ought to be taking calcium. No. Calcium as a supplement, ladies, does not [00:09:30] get to your bones. You don't need calcium. Vitamin D takes your calcium and puts it into your bone with K2. Now, how do you get vitamin K2 in food? I'm going to talk about this in a second, but vitamin D, how do you get it? Where's it found? What kingdom is it found in?

Dr.Martin: K2 is found in ... What's vitamin K2 found in? The animal kingdom. [00:10:00] Ladies, in your salad, there's no K2 in your salad. Chicken and salad. Women. Every time I talk to a woman, what's your favorite food? Chicken and salad. I tell you, butter, cheese. Well, the highest source in the world is cheese curds. I love cheese curds. You almost have to mortgage your house to get them, but they are so good. I love cheese [00:10:30] curds. High in vitamin K2. What does vitamin K2 do? It takes calcium out of your bloodstream. You never worry about calcium, ladies. "Oh, Dr. Martin, I'm taking calcium." Why? You are supposed to eat your calcium. If you eat dairy, not milk, not milk. You got a cow in the backyard, drink milk. Otherwise don't drink it. Don't drink grocery store milk. It's not good for [00:11:00] you. It's white Pepsi. It'll take the calcium right out of your body, but vitamin D, lungs. Vitamin K2 takes your calcium out of your blood vessels.

Dr.Martin: What does K1 do? What's K1 do? There's vitamin K2 and there's K1. See, K2 is in ... Guys, divide your kingdoms of food. In God's kingdom, there's the animal [00:11:30] kingdom and the plants, and all your vitamins and all your minerals and all your proteins and everything you need, all your healthy fat and everything is within those two kingdom. Then we talked about yesterday, the manmade food. Avoid like the plague, manmade food. And you know what man did? Man literally took bread and changed it because they change the flour. [00:12:00] It used to be, you used to have the wheat and the germ that was part of bread up till about the late 1800s and early 1900s. All flour was stone ground, and then they found out that they could do it quicker with manufacturing and whatever and they took away the stone ground, and what do you got? You don't get the wheat, you don't get [00:12:30] the germ, you don't get the nutrients and you got crappy flour. That's in the manmade side. That's why, if you listen to me, I tell ya, don't eat bread. You can have it every once in a while for a treat. Don't eat bread. In the animal kingdom ... In the animal kingdom is found vitamin K2 and vitamin D3. There's a big difference [00:13:00] now. Now listen, if you get a vitamin with K2 ... I took my vitamin D this morning.

Dr.Martin: Well, because somebody was asking, "Well, the sun's out. I know the sun's out this morning." But it's cold. You're not really going to get enough vitamin D this morning, at least where I am in Northern Ontario, because I can't go out in my short sleeves or my shorts. Because that's [00:13:30] how you get vitamin D. It comes in your arms mostly and on your legs. So I'm still taking my vitamin D. Here we are in April. I'm still taking it, 10,000 IUs, for me, and vitamin K2. So, in the animal kingdom you have D3. That's the only vitamin D as far as a supplement. Now listen, listen. The best vitamin D is the sun. There's [00:14:00] nothing like the sun. Sunshine. It's the greatest vitamin of the universe, is the sun. "Oh, Dr. Martin, I don't go in the sun, not without sunscreen."

Dr.Martin: You know me, my generation, look at me, me, my generation, scaredy cats of the sun. Scaredy cats of fat because we bought the lies of the 1960s [00:14:30] and the 1970s. "The sun gives you skin cancer." Well, melanoma, the worst of all cancers, 99% of people that get that, 99% facts, work indoors, don't get in the sun. Now, I'm not telling you to go burn like a tomato or a lobster. I'm not telling you to do that. Don't burn. I agree with that. But if you burn [00:15:00] and you get a cancer, you know what you'll get, you'll get basal cell carcinoma. It's not deadly. But don't burn, I agree with that. Did you see my Florida hat? I wear a nice wide brim because I don't want to burn. I don't want to burn.

Dr.Martin: If you have dark skin, you need even more sun. So in the animal kingdom, eggs, meat, cheese, vitamin K2, [00:15:30] vitamin D3. You see, in the plant kingdom you have vitamin D2 and vitamin K1. K1, there's nothing wrong with it. You have a salad, ladies, you get vitamin K1. What's K1 do? It thins your blood out. Nothing wrong with that. It thins your blood out. You won't have thick blood if you have salad. You get vitamin K2. They fortify dairy with [00:16:00] it. You'll sometimes see it in the cereal, vitamin D2 added, but vitamin D2 is not absorbed in your body. It's poorly absorbed. You need vitamin D3 so that's why I take our supplement of D3 and the sun. So there is a common factor that they found.

Dr.Martin: Isn't that amazing? In the [00:16:30] people ... Guys, if you've got any kind of lung condition, you are susceptible to COVID-19 and of course pneumonia and all of the other things, but you need vitamin D3 as a supplement. When the sun comes out, get in the sun, 20 minutes of the sun. 20 minutes of the sun, arms and legs exposed. 10,000 international [00:17:00] units of vitamin D. "Oh, Dr. Martin, that's too much." I've had doctors tell me don't take more than 1000 Ius. Ahh, what's going to happen? It's craziness, craziness. All the research that's been done on vitamin D ... I don't think there is a vitamin in the world that's been researched more than vitamin D. Vitamin C is wonderful. Martin clinic vitamin C, coffee. [00:17:30] The other vitamin C ... Linus Pauling, he got a Nobel prize in medicine for his research in the 1970s on vitamin C. Wonderful. I've always said this right since the 70s. He only missed by one letter in the alphabet. The vitamin D is more important now. Vitamin C, I talked to you about this last week with the COVID-19.

Dr.Martin: In China, some places in the US, they were giving [00:18:00] intravenous vitamin C. Hey, I like that. To me, it's a tremendous treatment. What they should be doing is giving them injections. 50,000 IUs. 50,000 IUs of vitamin D every day in the hospital. Inject it right into their tissue, vitamin D. That's what I ... If I could get into the hospitals, I would get them to inject vitamin D 50,000 [00:18:30] IUs a day for seven days for the lungs. Anyway, that's just me, okay.

Dr.Martin: Now, the other thing ... The other thing that they've found ... I talked a little bit about this the other day, but I just want to ... This is common. Guys, we're talking about this. This is common and here's what they're finding. Number one, everybody [00:19:00] that's going in there, over 90% are low in vitamin D. Hello? Hello? It's a cheap vitamin you can take on a daily basis. You should be taking it, one.

Dr.Martin: Two, almost 90% people that are hospitalized with COVID-19, obesity. Obesity. Common. I said this the other day. This is why you have the African-American population, Louisiana per capita [00:19:30] is worse than New York. What is it? Obesity. Guys, obesity is a symptom. Obesity isn't on its own. Obesity is a symptom of insulin. Remember what insulin is. Insulin is a food hormone. Every time you eat, you need insulin, but if you're eating crappy carbohydrates and sugars, insulin spikes. What's insulin's job? Remember that. If this is ... Guys, this [00:20:00] is nutrition 101. When you eat, if you've got sugar in your bloodstream ... Remember, your body is so intelligent, it's so fearfully and wonderfully made, it will do everything it can to get sugar out of your bloodstream. Sugar is tightly regulated in your bloodstream. Empty out your bloodstream. You got five liters of blood. You'll never have more than [00:20:30] about a half a teaspoon of sugar in there. I don't care if you just had 10 chocolate bars. Inside of your bloodstream, your insulin ... get out. It's the traffic cop at Costco. You know, the lights are down ... Well, in our city, like a week before Christmas, there's a traffic cop. There should be a traffic cop at Costco, especially now.

Dr.Martin: What does insulin do? Insulin takes sugar [00:21:00] out of your bloodstream. It doesn't allow it. It needs to be tightly regulated, not to go high and not to go too low. That's what insulin does, but insulin ... Okay, what else does it do? Sugar, out, out, out, out. The traffic cop. Get out of there. Get out of there. Get out of there. Get out of the blood. What does it do? It parks it. It parks it in the parking lot. Your biggest place to park sugar [00:21:30] is your liver. It's the parking lot. It's the suitcase.

Dr.Martin: Obesity starts with insulin. Insulin, when you use it too much ... What did I say last week? Study done, 12 days of bad eating. 12 days. 12 days. How long have we been on lockdown? You know what I'm saying? Let me say this. I'm going to go off into a little rabbit trail, but I promise [00:22:00] to come back. You know what I've been seeing? The worst thing about COVID-19, in my opinion, is that we're not going to learn anything from it. We're not going to learn. We're going to wash our hands. We're going to wear a mask. We're going to practice social distancing, but we're going to miss the thing that's the most important. We're going to miss it. Nobody's talking about.

Dr.Martin: We're going to be overwhelmed with [00:22:30] a bug, a virus, that is a fraction of a nanometer. You can't even see it. It's changed our world. It's brought our world to its knees. But guys, what we're forgetting is the people that get sick from this are not children. They are people with low vitamin D, but you won't hear about that because there's no money in vitamin D. There's no money in the sun. There's no [00:23:00] money in a supplement of vitamin D. You can't patent vitamin D. The pharmaceutical companies are looking for a vaccine and don't come after me, I'm not against it. Go find the vaccine. Good for you. That's what pharmaceutical companies do. But guys, the thing that we're missing is we're low in vitamin D and that hampers your immune system [00:23:30] and one of the things that makes you sick is obesity, but it's not even obesity. It's insulin. It's sugar. I talked about sugar and what it does to your immune system, but not only that, it gives you ... Obesity comes from insulin, guys.

Dr.Martin: You can be skinny and have obesity. You know how you get it? You get ... You're skinny, "I'm healthy, I'm [00:24:00] skinny." No, you're not. Are you a bad eater? Well, one thing where you can't see is visceral fat. It's around your liver and you wouldn't even know it. It's around your heart. You wouldn't even know it until it's too late. It's in your bloodstream. Not cholesterol. It's not cholesterol. It's triglycerides, unhealthy fat, triglycerides. Three fats [00:24:30] from sugar and carbohydrates. Guys, nobody's talking about that because the lesson we ought to learn ... and God bless the African-Americans, but they should be up in arms. It's killing them, this virus, more than anybody else. Why? Obesity. I talked to you yesterday about the indigenous people, the first nations. Sugar [00:25:00] kills those people. It kills us too, just slower.

Dr.Martin: And the third one is same thing. Common. Common. Metabolic syndrome. It comes back to the same thing because obesity is part of metabolic syndrome. High blood pressure is part of metabolic syndrome. High triglycerides are part of metabolic syndrome. High uric acid levels are part of ... It's all due to insulin. It all comes back to insulin. Vitamin D and insulin. [00:25:30] That's the lesson we ought to learn from this virus. Look, it's a virus. It's coming back to a theater near you. Guys, COVID-19, do you think ... You know, I know they locked us down. Don't get me into all the politics because it gets my blood pressure up. Blood pressure is one of the number one science of elevated insulin, by the way. It's check the engine light, your insulin is high. That's [00:26:00] why food is so ...

Dr.Martin: Guys, you get it? Food is so important. Metabolic syndrome. You can fix metabolic syndrome. It's food. Get it? And we're not ... Unless I'm crazy, we're not even going to learn this lesson. We're going to be all about finding a vaccine. We won't be back to normal, not going to be able to go to a ball game. You're not going to be able to get into a crowd. You're not going to be [00:26:30] able to ... Life as we know it, in my opinion, it's not going to be normal. I'm not sure ever again. And to me, they're missing the whole point because they're not looking at the real problem. It's not the virus.

Dr.Martin: Guys, what is it going to be next year? COVID-20? Really? We had SARS. We had MERS. It didn't close the world down, but [00:27:00] we had those. We had the swine flu. And by the way, we didn't learn the lessons those days either because guess what they had, they had low levels of vitamin D. they had metabolic syndrome. Those are the people that get sick. Look, if you overeat ... Look, in Italy, people were over ... 80% were over 80 that died. 90% it was between 80 and a hundred. [00:27:30] I get that. I understand that. And God love the old people. Somebody said the other day, "Dr. Martin, you're in that crowd." I just about fell over. What do you mean I'm in that crowd? I've never seen myself as susceptible.

Dr.Martin: I'm trying to keep care of my metabolic syndrome. I have to be careful. [00:28:00] I've got to discipline myself all the time. Some people find it easier than others. I've got to be disciplined. Dr. Martin is disciplined. I have to be. I married an Italian. The best cook in the world is my wife. I married her. So guess what? I like to eat. I have to be careful. I have to talk to myself. So guys, got it? Think about the importance [00:28:30] of what we talked about today. Make sure you get in the sun when the sun comes up. Take your vitamin D. Take it. Every day. I like it better with K2, but vitamin D is wonderful. Get your insulin down, cut out your carbs. If you want to do something, do a reset. The reset. Why don't we pick a date in the next week or so and we'll put ... Maybe hundreds or thousands of people like we did back in January want to do the reset [00:29:00] again. You ready? Let's talk about that. We can do it together.

Dr.Martin: My new book coming to a theater new you very soon. You're going to love this book. I'm thrilled to be writing. Here's the title, The Diet Your Doctor Won't Share With You. You ain't going to get this diet that your doctor won't share with you. Tony Jr. came up with that title last week. I love it. I really do. I've been [00:29:30] fooling around with the titles and I think that's the title.

Dr.Martin: Somebody said to me a about a month ago, Save Your Pancreas, Save Your Life. I like that, too. That's one of my chapters in the book. Save your pancreas, insulin, and save your life. It's true. It's true. It's always been true but the more we research and even with ... You know what, in a way, the nice [00:30:00] thing is when I did my introduction ... I've rewritten my introduction in the last week because I put COVID-19 in it. I said I'm writing this book during the COVID-19 crisis, but it has everything to do with what I'm talking about in the book. Everything to do with it. Your immune system relies on two things. Food, food, cut your sugars, cut your carbs and vitamin D. And by [00:30:30] the way, D3 is only found in the animal kingdom. Eggs, meat and cheese. But, I like to supplement vitamin D because we don't get enough of it. Where do you get zinc? Steak. Eat your zinc. Okay, love you guys. Talk to you soon.
