Announcer: During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.

Dr. Martin, Sr.: Well, thank you for watching today. I want to talk to you this day about mold. Very, very common in our society [00:00:30] today. I think I read a statistic where it says somewhere around 40 to 50% of the population in their lifetime, is going to be exposed to mold.

Dr. Martin, Sr.: Okay, so let's talk a little bit about mold today, because it's much more common than people think. I want to ... I'll give the symptoms, possible symptoms of mold, exposure to mold, and what it does it your body, why it can be [00:01:00] so detrimental to the body, and like I said, much more common.

Dr. Martin, Sr.: Let me just give you a couple of ideas. Even in my practice what I've seen, I remember a young man about 25 years old. I thought that when I saw him, he was very ill, he had just come out of the hospital, and they never really found what was going on. He had a real ... They thought he had pneumonia, but it really wasn't.

Dr. Martin, Sr.: They treated him with antibiotics and [00:01:30] he wasn't doing well, even with that. And yet, he came to see me and I just in my mind to ask him, "Have you been exposed to mold?" He had to think about it, and sure enough he was a scraping a dock, and you know what, he got black mold in his lungs. I got to tell you something, that can be very detrimental. People can die from [00:02:00] exposure to mold.

Dr. Martin, Sr.: Another example is, I've been part of ... I've been in my hometown here, Sudbury, I've been part of getting buildings condemned and schools closed because of mold, yeah. The reason is, is because patients were coming to see me with very unwell, and [00:02:30] again, I always try and reverse engineer, "Well, you're unwell, why are you unwell?" There was a common denominator.

Dr. Martin, Sr.: I said, "You've been exposed to mold?" "Well, not at home, but in my workplace, could be mold there, and all buildings, and you know, water damage in the buildings." They had all these symptoms, they weren't feeling good. I said, "Well, I think you've been exposed to mold, get your union involved, get the building [00:03:00] tested for mold." And by the way, that's something that you can do, too. Now there's companies I believe in almost every hometown that will actually test the building, or test your home for mold.

Dr. Martin, Sr.: If you've had water damage in your home, you might be sleeping with the enemy. Yeah, like again, mold, what it does, it releases spores, mycotoxins. Okay. They are invisible, but what happens if they [00:03:30] get into your lungs and they get into your tissue, they get into your sinuses, they get into ... One of the common symptoms is flu-like symptoms. I've had people come in and they're just very unwell and they can't figure it out.

Dr. Martin, Sr.: "Doc, I don't know what happened to me. I'm just like I got a flu 24 hours and seven, I don't feel good. I'm [00:04:00] exhausted." It might get into their lungs, it might not, they've got a chronic cough or they got post-nasal drip or chronic rhinitis. "What does chronic rhinitis?" Somebody asked me that the other day on our Facebook page. Well, it's a chronic infection or chronic inflammation of the sinuses. Rhinitis, and you're always just stuffed-up all the time. And oftentimes, with a post-nasal drip, [00:04:30] you don't feel good.

Dr. Martin, Sr.: The number one area ordinarily that mold, these mycotoxins, what they can do is they usually, not always, can get into your lungs, and that really can cause havoc within the lungs. But one of the things that they do is they, because your immune system sees these mycotoxins come in, your immune system oftentimes overreacts. [00:05:00] That is the person that is the canary in the coal mine. Their system can be affected. Let's say you have mold in your house. Well, maybe you're fine, but one of your kids is sick all the time.

Dr. Martin, Sr.: They oftentimes end up in my office, and these patients I say to the mom, "Well, you know what? Is there possible mold in the bedroom? Or, possible mold in your house? [00:05:30] Did you have water damage? You got a wet basement?" Even in a bathroom, where moisture, moisture, mold. In the Bible, if you had mold or mildew in your house, there's a chapter in there in Leviticus that the high priest would come and if he saw mildew, I mean this is how dangerous it is. He'd say, "Okay, we're going to clean that up." And then he'd come back a week later, if that mildew wasn't gone, "We got to burn that building [00:06:00] down. We got to burn your house down because you got to get rid of it." So isn't that incredible? Think about that. What I'm saying, how important.

Dr. Martin, Sr.: So here's some of the symptoms. Okay. Obviously, lungs, but not always. It can be flu-like symptoms, just very unwell, very lethargic, very exhausted. Why? Because mold exposure, mycotoxin, it's not the mold, it's the mycotoxin that comes from the mold can get into your system, [00:06:30] get into your tissue. Your immune system fights that mycotoxin. What happens, your adrenals, the adrenal glands can be exhausted. So brain fog, a feeling of lightheadedness, just feeling very unwell. And oftentimes, symptoms of digestive symptoms. Headaches, often, common, just chronic headaches, unwellness, and headaches, [00:07:00] and the lightheadedness, and spacey, almost like you can't focus. These can be symptoms of exposure to mold.

Dr. Martin, Sr.: Like I was saying, chronic digestive issues because what happens with the mycotoxins, oftentimes, they will get into your gut. These mycotoxins get into your gut and they disrupt the normal bacterial microbiome. So what happens, now it makes [00:07:30] the bad guys, compared to your good bacteria, makes the bad guys take over. What happens then is that you can have leaky gut, leaky gut, leaky brain, leaky gut, leaky lungs, leaky gut, leaky bowel, okay. Where mycotoxins now come into the bloodstream, but not only that, it can really irritate the lining of the gut. [00:08:00] You can get chronic digestive trouble even with exposure to mold.

Dr. Martin, Sr.: Okay, so those are some of the symptoms that you should be aware of. And again, when in doubt, have your home tested. Okay, a lot of times with carpeting, it gets wet. They say they dried it out and everything, but you know what? Mold can get underneath there, mold [00:08:30] can get in, in between the walls of your home. It's behind the walls, but the mycotoxins are released into the air. And again, usually it's the canary in the coal mine, it's that person that has a weakness that has already maybe compromised immunity, and whatever. This can create havoc within the body, so if you have mold, [00:09:00] get it checked.

Dr. Martin, Sr.: Number two, dehumidifier. Okay, obviously in the basement, get a dehumidifier. It'll take that moisture out of the basement, or in the washroom, or even in a bedroom, get a dehumidifier. Just make sure if you have any doubt about mold being in your home, if you work in a building, you work in an old school building, or whatever, oftentimes there's [00:09:30] mold in there. If you happen to have unionized, then get the union fighting on your side to check it. If not, try and push to have the building checked for mold because you might be the canary. You might be the Canary. Not everybody gets sick from mold because they don't have a specific allergy to mold or whatever, okay.

Dr. Martin, Sr.: Now the other thing is diet, okay. Obviously, mold [00:10:00] mycotoxins are just like ... And by the way, they make you much more susceptible to candida, and those mycotoxins make you much more susceptible to parasites. Again, they can play havoc in your system and get into your brain, and make those mycotoxins feed parasites and they feed yeast, and they gang up on you.

Dr. Martin, Sr.: Diet-wise, number one, sugar. [00:10:30] Number one, sugar. Do you know what mold hates? The sun. If you had mold in your house, and you could take the roof off, and let the sun come in, mold can't survive in sunlight. Okay, so unfortunately, I don't have a portable roof in my house and I bet you, you don't either, right? But just think of the importance of that. The sun, the sun. So [00:11:00] if you are suspicious that you have mold in your lungs, or in your sinuses, then get in the sun.

Dr. Martin, Sr.: Let the sun get at your lungs, let the sun get at your sinuses, the sun, the sun. And of course, if you can't do that, you need vitamin D, because vitamin D is a tremendous vitamin for your immune system. It charges up the batteries of your [00:11:30] T cells. It charges up your white blood cells to go after mold, and the mycotoxins caused by mold, okay. If they're in your lung tissue, sun. If not the sun, you can't get enough sun, then remember, vitamin D, vitamin D, you need good doses of vitamin D in order to combat the mycotoxins of mold.

Dr. Martin, Sr.: The other thing [00:12:00] is meat, meat, meat, meat because a lot of times, grains have mold in them. They're stored, especially in this day and age, they're stored for a long period of time and they can have mold in them. And then guess what? It's in the brand, it's in the noodle, it's in grains. One of the things you can do is cut back, cut back on sugars, and cut back on flour, [00:12:30] and cut back on the things that can feed your mycotoxins.

Dr. Martin, Sr.: So guess what? Just change your diet. What do I talk about all the time? Eggs, meat and cheese. Okay. Now don't get moldy cheese, of course, but these things don't feed the mycotoxins. Mycotoxins need fuel, and they love sugar, and hate steak. That's what I always tell my [00:13:00] patients. Love sugar, but they hate steak. These are some of the ways that you can do it, okay.

Dr. Martin, Sr.: Thanks for watching today. And if you have any feedback or any questions, please let me know, try and answer all your questions and share this with other folks. Love you guys.
