TRANSCRIPT OF TODAY'S EPISODE
Announcer: You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.
Dr. Martin: Well good morning everyone, and once again, welcome to another live this morning. Nice to have you on with us and we always appreciate those who can watch us live. We know it's not always possible. Okay, so let's get going guys. Now, couple of things. Yesterday we talked about sugar, okay? And we talked about the downstream effect. Is there anything that it doesn't affect? Is there anything that insulin doesn't affect? Okay, and guys, I'm going to tell you something. You're never, ever, ever going to get elevated insulin if you're not a carboholic and if you're not a sugarholic. It just won't happen. Okay? So, are there exceptions? Maybe one out of a million but I want to tell you guys, with all the years of experience I've had, there's only one way to elevate insulin and that is to be a carboholic.
And yesterday I talked about the importance of knowing where you're at and interpreting your own blood work. And I really want you to get this down because it's science guys. So you get the book, Sun, Steak and Steel. It's worth getting for a lot of reasons. But I want to tell you how to interpret your blood work and you don't have to get into the weeds. You don't have to know everything on your blood work. But one thing you got to know is your A1C, okay? A1C because your A1C will tell you if you're on the Titanic or not, okay? If you're in that 93% of the population that have trouble with carbohydrates and especially sugar, and especially the high fructose corn syrup, which is the sugar of choice in almost every food in the grocery store. If you see sugar added, my friend, I'm going to tell you almost invariably it will be a high fructose corn syrup.
So let's look at the effect. Guys, we've gone over this a million times, but let's do 1,000,001. Go over it again. You got trouble with your eyes, you got trouble with sugar. Guys, have you read the testimonies of people that done the 30 day reset? Have you read the testimonies? I should have a book just on testimonies. Now, when I did the metabolic reset, I put in about 30 or 40 testimonies in there. I could have put in a couple of thousand. But guys, even this 30 day reset that a lot of us did in January, including me, including me, you don't have any sugar at all for one month. Watch what happens. It's amazing. So people always ask me, doc, why do you do that? Isn't it moderation? Nope, it's elimination for 30 days. And then once you reset your body, once your body has a chance to reset itself, and I'm going to tell you something, you can't reset your body unless you turn that pancreas off. You can't reset it. You can't reset your liver, you can't reset your pancreas. You can't reset your brain. You can't reset any of your organs unless you cut out sugar for 30 days, and then you'll see.
You know what I love about the reset? Okay, here's what I love about it. Well, there's a lot of things, but let me just give you a couple again. One, you are forming new habits. When you change fuels, when you go from living on carbohydrates and sugars and then you don't have that for 30 days, and some people listen, they get a little bit of a crash, their brain is like, what did you do to me man? I'm so used to swimming in an ocean of glucose. All of a sudden I don't have that. What are you doing to me? But your body will thank you, okay? And it's meant for everyone. Do you hear what I'm saying? It's meant for everyone because sugar is toxic. What? Sugar is toxic. Your body knows that. It's amazing that medicine doesn't know it. You get cancer, my friend, and they send you home with Boost and drinks. Are you kidding me? Ensure, are you kidding me? But they do.
And the reason is, can they really think, and I'll tell you, even dieticians, imagine going to school all the years that a dietician goes to school. God bless them and they come out and they still believe in moderation. They don't understand insulin and they don't understand insulin resistance. Imagine that, and they don't understand that 93% of the population have trouble with carbohydrates because they loaded up their lives for years and years and years with carbs. They were told to start your day, don't eat bacon and eggs. That'll kill you. Eat our cereal says Dr. Kellogg's, who was a kook. Study Dr. Kellogg's, he was a nutcase and yet influenced all of the teaching of the dieticians.
Sugar in the blood is so tightly regulated because your body, which is fearfully and wonderfully made, understands one thing. Sugar left unattended in the bloodstream will destroy rapidly and it starts with little capillaries. Those little wee microscopic attachments between your veins and your arteries, they get destroyed rapidly with sugar unattended. You don't have to be a diabetic. Again, you know what the Martin Clinic statement is? You know what The Doctor Is In statement is. Diabetes is the last thing to happen, not the first thing to happen. It's the last thing to happen. Why is that? Because your body is dedicated to controlling blood sugar. Your body knows more than the world knows, okay? Your body knows more than the world knows. Okay? You get it?
And thus we can start, well, like I said, eyes, okay, eyes. Any issue in the eye, almost invariably. I know there's a few exceptions, but the biggest thing in your eyes is circulation. What destroys circulation? Sugar left unattended. What? Yep. Sugar left unattended will destroy your eyes because it will destroy the blood vessels behind your eyes. Got it? Okay. That's why in 30 days, what have you learned? You know what? I really didn't do well with sugar, did I? I used to tell my patients that. Give me 30 days of your life. Trust me, for 30 days. I mean you waited months to see me, many of you traveled hundreds, if not thousands of miles to see me, and now I want to show you something. Give me 30 days of your life. Do you trust me enough for that? Yeah, doc. Okay, I'll give you 30 days. Okay?
Here's what's going to happen in 30 days. No sugar. No carbs, trust me on it. You are going to reset your pancreas and that's the key. You are going to cut out sugar, and now your insulin, which controls blood sugar, is going to get a break that is badly needed. You're going to help your eyes, you're going to help your brain. You're going to change fuels in your brain. You're going to go from 87 octane to rocket fuel. No, but your brain will thank you because now you are going to burn a different fuel. Your brain will say, hallelujah. Your brain loves ketones. It swims for 93% of the population in glucose that shrinks, shrinks, shrinks your brain. Remember Alzheimer's, what did we learn in 2022? It wasn't plaque, it was your brain mitochondria. The energy centers in your brain weren't able to use the fuel properly because you gave it the wrong fuel, sugar. Type three diabetes is Alzheimer's.
People won the Nobel Prize for that, and yet they were discredited. Big pharma didn't like it. What do you mean food? Food has anything to do with your health. Yeah. Okay. Your liver empties. Well, it doesn't even take 30 days for your liver to empty. Imagine emptying your liver. That is one of the most important things, guys, that you could ever do. Why? Sugar gums up your liver with fat. High fructose corn syrup is the worst. It's like alcohol in the liver. Everybody knows, you learn this the first day in medical school. Alcohol and the liver don't go together. They don't. Nobody denies that. Nobody does. Everybody said, yeah, you're right, doc. Yeah, you empty your liver of fat when you're on the reset for 30 days. The liver says hallelujah. Why? Because you emptied it and an empty liver. Okay? An empty liver is a functioning liver.
Remember the number one detox of your body is your liver. I tell people, look, you want to do a detox? Do the reset. What you mean it's not full of fiber? No. You want to do a detox? Do the reset. Why is that? Because it's going to empty your liver and an empty liver will give you very high levels, okay? Listen to the importance of the liver. Very high levels of your number one master antioxidant that your body makes. It is called glutathione. Glutathione. Your body makes it, but it makes it two ways, okay? One, you get glutathione when you eat steak. What? Yeah, glutathione. It's an amino acid. It's actually three amino acids. You get it when you eat steak, okay? Do you think that steak is good for your liver? You bet your boots it is. Okay. Glutathione.
And then when your liver is empty, so you stopped eating sugar and carbs, crappy carbs, your liver empties and then it produces glutathione. It does a lot more than that ladies, I'm talking to you ladies. Horror-mones. You got horror-mones. How many millions of women got horror-mones? Let me tell you, one of the reasons that women get horror-mones is their liver is all gummed up. It's all gummed up. They've been lied to about eating. Don't eat eggs, meat and cheese, live on salad and carbohydrates. Dr. Martin, it's whole wheat bread. I don't care. It's going to be sugar in five nanoseconds and then it's off to your liver and you're gumming it up. And what happens there? Well, the majority of T4 that is converted to T3 for your thyroid to function properly happens in your liver, when it's empty, not when it's full of fat. Thyroid functions much better when your liver's empty. Heavy metals, mercury, lead, cadmium. What happens?
If your liver is full, especially with fat. Heavy metals get attracted to fat and the liver can't do the job of detoxing those things because your liver is full of fat. Fat attracts heavy metal, toxins. They stick in the fat. You see your liver's used to chelating that stuff. Your liver knows what to do when it's empty of fat. And fat don't make you fat. Sugar makes you fat. Sugar makes your liver fat. And again, I always bring it back to high fructose corn syrup. Okay, empty your liver, my friend. It's the best thing you can do. Reset your pancreas. It's the best thing you can do. Reset it. That's what the reset means. You don't have to be a diabetic diagnosed. Most people, what did I bring out to you the other day that a hundred million Americans are pre-diabetic, meaning that their A1C is elevated and they don't even know it. Nobody's told them. Doctors get A1C and unless you're through the roof, they don't even flag it. They don't understand it because they're only looking for diabetes. I'm looking for metabolic syndrome.
And by the way, when the liver is empty, guess what happens? Your liver is directly connected to your heart. What? Doc, you're kidding. No, I'm not kidding you. Why would I kid you about that? Because when your liver is empty, write this down. Your triglycerides go down. Hallelujah. Your fat balls, tri glycerides. Fat balls are dangerous when they're high and they get high when your liver is full of fat. That's how your body empties tries to empty your liver. So you got all these fat balls floating around in your blood vessels. That's not good. And when your liver is full, big effect on the heart, your HDL cholesterol is low, high triglycerides, low HDL. You see why it's important to read your own blood work? All your doctor's going to be worried about generally, okay, is your cholesterol, your total cholesterol. Cholesterol mania. They've been trained that way because they don't know anything about nutrition, or very little. They don't understand and they should the importance of having high cholesterol, HDL.
It's very important because HDL hitches its wagon. HDL carries hormones. LDL carries hormones. They're FedEx trucks, they're Amazon trucks. They're delivering, but HDL specifically, it hitches its wagon to triglycerides and brings those triglycerides back to the liver for processing. Do you understand what I'm saying? The importance of keeping your liver empty. Do you get that? How important that is. Okay, how important that is, and what's the connection between food and your heart? It's not cholesterol. It's not because you're eating eggs or butter or meat. They want to tell you that. Cheese, you know how fat cheese is Dr. Martin? Oh, no, tell me. I didn't know. Guys. I've been screaming this way for 50 years, screaming. John the Baptist in the wilderness. Repent. Turn around. You got it wrong. Eat cholesterol is good for you. Empty your liver, my friends. And it starts within six days of the reset. Six days of changing fuels will start to empty that liver. Wow. It doesn't take long.
Every kid should be doing the reset. Kids, because we live in such a crazy world, they're up to almost 200 pounds of sugar a year. Kids are consuming sugar like it's coming out their ears, especially with these drinks. I go into these candy shops like Starbucks, candy shops. My grandchildren worked there. Not all of them, but some of them did. Some drinks were 36, 40 teaspoons of sugar. They squirt that syrup to make their lattes. You should see me get a migraine when I see these specialty drinks. The best specialty drink is to drink a coffee for heaven's sakes, and leave it alone. And don't put no sugar in it. Whatever you do, empty your liver, my friend. Empty your liver. Reset your pancreas. Your heart will thank you. Your brain will thank you. Your eyes will thank you. Your kidneys will thank you. There is nothing more destructive to kidneys. Nothing more destructive to kidneys than sugar.
Ask a diabetic, they get it. A diabetic knows that they're in deep doo doo when it comes to their kidneys. I wish I would've invested in dialysis. Can you imagine if you own shares in dialysis machines, they can't keep up with chronic kidney disease. Well, I'm going to tell you something my friend. You know what? Here's doctors in 2025. Here's the average physician. You have kidney trouble. Yeah, well, you got to cut out the steak. You got to cut it out, man because protein and kidneys don't go together, says who? That's been debunked for 50 years, but you can't change their thinking. Well, I'm going to tell you something. Your creatinine is high. You got protein in your urine. Yeah, but it don't come from protein. It comes from kidney stress. When you're consuming sugars and carbohydrates.
I remember, this is years ago. It's got to be 15 years ago. I had a conversation with one of my patients' friends, I think it was a brother or something. It was one of my patients come to see me and over the years and he said, doc, can you convince my brother? Well, I said, look, I'm happy to talk to your brother and he's got chronic kidney disease and he's an inch away from dialysis. Can you help him? I said, well, here's what I would do. And I said, is he willing to talk to me? If he's willing? I'm going to show him another side of what he's been taught. And the guy agreed to it. And so this brother lived in Montreal, and he called me. I took his call. We had a conversation. I said, well, look, will you trust me for 30 days? And he said, I don't know. I'm scared because what you're telling me, Dr. Martin is completely opposite of what they're telling me at the dialysis clinic. I said, I know, I'm going against the grain, but I said, 30 days. Now, I'm not saying I'm going to cure you in 30 days. I just want you to get, you're getting it tested all the time before and after reset of the kidneys. 30 days, no sugar, 30 days, no sugar. And you're going to eat eggs, meat, and cheese for 30 days. You ready?
Well, you know what? You can bring a horse to water, but you can't make 'em drink it. I even put some salt in the oats to make them drink water, but I couldn't make him do it. And I remember that. And this particular guy, he just wouldn't give me 30 days of his life. I said, well, hey, I don't even know you. I know your brother. Hey, you don't do it. That's up to you. I can't make you do that. I said, I would do it in the condition you're in, but if you've decided not to do it, okay, I can live with that. And within a year, he was on dialysis. And you know what? I've lost touch. Not sure he is still alive today, but not willing. And I, he was scared because what I was telling him about what sugar does to the kidneys, he didn't buy it because the doctor said, no, it was protein that was doing that to his kidneys. And he said, I hardly eat any meat anymore. I said, I know. I said, you and carbs don't get along. That's what destroyed your kidneys. Got the memo? Okay. Anyways, I was going to talk about a lot of other things than sugar, and maybe we'll do it again. I just get going. I get down rabbit trails and I don't come back.
